Link to drivers are broken
(GUIDE) Aria Superthread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881634) has a broken link. The drivers to root are on Megauploads taken down by the FBI recently. Is there a mirror or another place that has the drivers I need?

I've personally always had problems with the drivers on windows. Used the linux cd here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7449486&postcount=1
and it worked on the first time.

I think it´s the Unrevoked

Unrevoked is the best way but you need revolutionary first to s-off
search the forums for it
it will want to download Unrevoked anyways after it s-off

I found the revolutionary method and S-OFF to be the easiest.

.
Thread moved to Q&A due to it being a question. Would advise you to read forum rules and post in correct section.
Failure to comply with forum rules will result in an infraction and/or ban depending on severity of rule break.

Root how to?

Has anyone written up a start to finish root how to for native root yet? One with finalized known good steps.
There is no chance atm for root except if you install Uruk or something like that.
So if you want root, go into dev forum, and follow the instructions there.

Yeah, I see all the posts, but the info is spread out. Wondering if its all been compiled into one post yet. I remember reading the How to run natively thread and that some steps had been deemed un-necessary.

Post 1 has detailed instructions. A bit of caution here is that prior Linux knowledge is required

Rooting stock V20C (2.3.3)

Hi folks...
According to reports on this forum, some people seem to have managed rooting their stock 2.3.3 roms.
However, I don't seem to be able to do this
I used the official LG update tool to upgrade to V20C, and it looks like I have a perfectly working Gingerbread installation, but when I try to root (using Gingerbreak, which I thought should work), nothing happens (Gingerbreak keeps running without changing anything).
In the DEV forum FAQ, there is no information about rooting GB roms (yet).
If anyone who successfully did this, would care to comment, I'd be very much obliged
thanks
d

He cannot do any such thing with stock recovery. ("I used the official LG update tool to upgrade to V20C".) Duh!

Either that or do this:
in ADB:
adb devices
adb shell
echo 1 > /data/local/lge_adb.conf
then open superoneclick and root (using psneuter).
Thanks, that worked fine. First time I tried I had some problems but I must have done something wrong

Use the EXE installer since obviously you have no clue what you are doing.
crap... didn't see the text file. adb has been moved to platform-tools. sorry
Doktornotor seems to have disappeared (deleted?) and his signature's gone with him also, it's impossible now to search on his username.
Does anyone have a link to the thread where he describes how to root by flashing? I'm probably too stupid to wrap my head around the search function on this site because I really can't find the thread. (by the way I don't think it was the general thread where he tells you how to flash gingerbead)

I believe the file to be flashed was this, but I haven't tried it and I can't find the original thread either. :/

EDIT: found it! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146566 (3rd post) Maybe Ciaox should mention in his howto-repo that this contains info about rooting stock 2.3.3

[Q] Unrooting EVO 4g Need Stocks

Hi, I rooted my EVO a while ago, and have been enjoying the differents ROMs and stuff. My problem is that the camera does not focus very well anymore, and now the LED's stopped working on it. So needless to say, I would like to unroot it before I take it in to the repair shop to let them look at it.
What I need is the stock ROM and also the S-ON tool. I used Unrevoked to flash it, then clockwork is my recovery.
Thanks in advance for any help I may be given.
Bumping this thread. Sorry if it seems impatient.
Here is a guide that you can use.
For future reference, you can use this link and bookmark it if you have questions, comments, concerns related to your EVO phone. Any root/unroot related guides are found in the development section of that thread. Good luck!

I had previously found this thread when I came here. I first did a search to see if my topic had already been discussed. The guide you linked me to, however, has a bad link to the stock ROM, and the S-ON tool says is corrupt when i try to flash it from recovery. That's why I was wondering if anyone had a more current link or something.
Here's the link from shipped-roms.com:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Sup....651.1_Radio_1.39.00.04.26_release_171253.exe
And for S-ON/OFF:
You may have to redownload the zip file. What's the file size that you have? When I saved it to my PC, it's showing 220kb.

[Q] Is it still ok to do Temp Root (for back-up) after 2.08.651.2? #solved

I would like todo a temp root for back-up before doing complete root. Following this guide, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218193, I download RW_EVO_3D (Fr3vo_root) yet I am concered as I preformed the ota update yesterday to 2.08.651.2.
Since I'm unsure how the temp root completely works, does it still function as expected after the recent update or is it advised to wait?
/edit, thanks for the clarification (and apologies for posting in the wrong forum), solved using reply and link to https://twitter.com/#!/agrabren/status/104242060193837058
Agrabren tweeted yesterday that the fr3vo exploit was patched in the 2.3.4 update. You aren't able to temp root right now nor run revolutionary to s-off.
And just an FYI before everybody flames you, this should have been posted in the general section.

[Q] Revolutionary issue

Scenario: HTC Flyer US Wifi only. Attempting to get s-off using revolutionary. I've setup ADB on my mac and my device is identified, so I can see the serial number. my HBoot version is 1.10.0000
This is the message I receive when trying to run the binary file downloaded from the revolutionary site.
"
-bash: /Users/BHaze/Desktop/revolutionary: cannot execute binary file
logout
[Process completed]
"
I'm guessing this is a simple fix. Thanks for your help guys.

Why doesn't it belong here globatron? It's a tool used for android development, right?

Unfortunately that didn't work. I believe all the permissions are correct. Could it be an error from the android sdk install perhaps?

Most likely you have a file that is corrupted or invalid. Are you sure you downloaded file for right platform?
Sorry, that's what I could think of. I tried Windows version and works great.

Have you been trolling every post that in the wrong section to do the same as you're doing here?
You are wasting space. Do you have nothing to better to do?
