so i downloaded and installed senselessRom 2.0 ICS and did full wipe installed the zip and it auto installed the kernel at fastboot. loaded it up and i get no data. signal is good and wifi works but no data. i checked md5 and its right, wiped and flashed again with same result. rom is beautiful and most things work great other than the random system ui FC but that is a known issue and not a big deal. i checked in phone info and under mobile network state it says disconnected but mobile data is checked always on in settings =. ive tried everything i can think of anyone have any ideas? im comming from ineffebilis v1.0 if that maters. and also verizon data is not down in my area either lol.
You have to go to data usage, I think it's called, in settings, and it'll say Mobile Network, and have an on/off switch. These roms come with data turned off by default.

lol you guys are awesome thank you so much lol
try
checking in settings under mobile data settings, mine was off by default when i installed the rom
I had this problem too but didn't notice it until hours after I had flashed the rom because I was on wifi all day. Once I got off wifi I was like wtf no data? I was about to get rid of it until I went into that and found that mobile data was turned off, kinda dumb IMO.
Took me like 10 minutes to find the switch. Why the hell is buried under THAT menu, and not with the BT/wifi/airplane etc menu? Because that might be logical?
Ya the ics menu is quite a bit different I never even saw that and in a completely different part of the menu there is the option for auto on mobile data and that was checked so I was stumped but ya thank god you guys told me where it was lol

My thoughts exactly. I saw that and then posted in the senseless thread asking if my phone was screwed up since there wasn't a data connection. Once I found it I went back in deleted that part of my post lol

my photon only downloads apps when on wifi not 3g. how do i fix it so it works on 3g???????
3G Data is too slow to use to download applications, it can take about 15 minutes to even begin to download an application. Sprint 3G is about 10kbps, if that, and that is not fast enough to download an application.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
Umm no thats 1x, I average 600-2800 kbs. You Sir may not have 3g in your area.
To answer the orginal question, really big apps require because not everyone has unlimited data.

My mistake, I was wrong, my data speeds are 630kbps+, and Sprint is planning to do 3G/4G data speed, and voice upgrades within the next 6 months.

go to market and hit menu and it should have the settings on how to change it

I think there is something else going on. Mine works as expected, but my buddies photon will only download over wifi too. I made sure that all the settings are the same and even uninstalled the market updates, cleared the data, and let it reinstall. Its pretty weird. The only thing that I have not looked at is the build.prop. He is on the latest stock ROM and is not rooted. We are in a 3g area for what it is worth.
Any other ideas?
Go to settings, Battery and data manager, Data saver. if that is enabled it will not download apps or app updates unless you are on wifi.

Nailed it. I didn't even think to check that. Thanks.
Okay I have been rooted for a day now and it seems that I am having some trouble staying connected to my mobile data. I did remove some bloat once I rooted but I don't think it has anything to do with that because when I am connected everything is fine. Is anyone else having this issue?

It's happened to me a few times but I think it's more of an LTE thing then an issue with the phone.

I'm on stock and see it happen at home as I get near the edge of Wi-fi range. The phone seems to continuously switch from mobile data to wi-fi, causing a lot of stutters when I'm streaming. I also had to switch to the 2.4 GHz channel from the router. The 5 GHz channel was worse and the phone seemed to be confused when I had it set up to connect to both channels. I'm not seeing LTE at our house, 3G at best.

Have you tried changing Settings->Power->Power Mode to High Performance?
That fixed it for me.
Well I had the issue a few times the night before and a couple times yesterday. Bit I think it might be the WiFi effect or what I'm calling it. The phone seems to want to auto connect to WiFi and it makes the mobile data stutter a bit.

I like having it enabled because it allows me to get on my network at home and work automatically. Which is helpful because I gave up my unlimited data. But if it does it again I may look into it.

hey guys. I just got my gs3 two days ago. love it. when I got it, I downloaded all my apps over WiFi. worked perfectly. today I tried downloading an app over 3g and it just won't download. it just sits there with the rolling bars but the download never starts. it's nearly 12hrs so I guess it's not a Google problem plus downloading over WiFi works.
I cleared data and cache for the play store, switched off my phone a couple of times and still nothing.
everything is stock and not even rooted yet.
took forever to download all my apps (slow WiFi) so I want to leave factory reset as a last resort
is there anything else I can do

I am on 3G. network speeds are decent around 3 mbps. had no problems whatsoever on my sgs1 even downloading while on edge.
browsing the internet and even browsing the play store is fast, it's just that it does not want to initialize downloading from there.
after a while the phone says it could not download due to an error 495

The S3 GT-i9300 is not a 4G phone.
Yes it is
Sent from my SGH-T769 using xda app-developers app
Just because your provider may market Hspa+ (which is only an upgrado of Hspa, which is considered an extension to 3g and is often called 3.5G) as 4G does not make the device 4g. Wimax and Lte are both candidates for 4g (afaik there no official 4g) but Lte has won that war already.

please stay on topic guys. it's really irritating that I can't download or update anything over 3G on the play store.
I cleared play store data and cache as well as download managers data and cache
I rebooted a few times
did a battery pull, as well as a SIM card pull to clean it's contacts
removed my sd card
signed out of gtalk and signed in again (Google support page mentioned this)
Nothing helps. my galaxy s1 can download over 3G so why can't this one do it.
like I said before, I can download over WiFi
please help me. I can't be the only one who has experienced this
Ohh ok

Might be a dumb question but do you have any data conservation apps installed? Sometimes those mess with those things.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
It's happen many times with me on 3G...
What I did to download?
Opend store start downloading a application...
W8 application didn't download yet
It is just showing the progress bar trying to download no data receiving
I leave it as it was ... Didn't wipe anything and just restart my phone
And bang now download starts...
Short note :- just start a download and after few seconds if no data receiving restart your phone
Check if it works for uh

Hopefully it stays this way

I have a solution for you please see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34775108#post34775108
This may have been posted already but I figured out how to stop my GPS from toggling itself on. If I turned off my GPS it would turn itself on and say searching for GPS, or turn itself on when I would be on a call or be in an area with no signal. Even after rooting, installing twrp and flashing Clean Rom 1.1 (THANKS SCOTT) it was still there. Looks like it was the carrier IQ causing the issue. I've done these three steps and haven't seen it since. Step 1: Settings>Location access> check 'Wi-Fi & Mobile network location' then uncheck 'GPS Satellite'. Step 2: On your device go to Settings>apps>runnings>Android System> IQServices> Stop. Step 3: Download 'Disable Services' app, open the app and go to android system the uncheck IQServices. I read that if you reboot your phone it could come back on and you'd just have to do the same steps to turn it back off. Also I heard that AT&T can turn it back on but at least you know how to shut it off. Let me know if this helps

Actually T-Mobile has it too but gives you an option on initial setup. And of course you can still opt out after the fact.

On the Clean rom Scott set it up so that it does the google initial setup and it ask you the Wifi and GPS question but on the unrooted AT&T version I don't remember it giving me that option. I don't even think they want you to know about CarrierIQ. Thing that sucks is it drains your battery

Try disabling 'remotely locate this device' in android device manager..
It helps preserve battery too..
