Just need some help on flashing zips hboot 1.5 HTC unlocked. - HTC EVO 3D

I know to flash roms and kernels I use fastboot in bootloader and boot clockwork from there and do my thing. I want to know for flashing zips like themes, skins, and stuff like that if I could just boot into recovery and do it from there or do I need to do the usual method through bootloader using a computer

U can just do it through recovery. No fastboot needed to flash skins or themes.

Hboot 1.5 and nandroid backups

I have a question I have not seen asked yet. Maybe someone here has more insight. My replacement 3vo came with hboot 1.5 so I unlocked using HTC's method and flashed TWRP. The nandroid I made after flashing was of the stock rom and stock kernel. Now, I have flashed MIUI and tiamat's kernel. That was a pain because recovery doesn't have permission to flash the boot partition unless you use fastboot to boot the recovery image. If I were to attempt to restore my nandroid, wouldn't it screw up the restoration due to the boot partition not being flashed?
What about when switching between an ASOP rom to Sense rom or vice versa?
Should all nandroids be restored from fastbooting a recovery image?

Just use fastboot if you have to do a nandroid you'll be ok!

Yeah, I had suspected that would be the case. I figured this would come up in the future and need to be addressed at some point. I may try to restore my sense nandroid to confirm it won't work unless you use fastboot.

From my experience i dont think u need to boot to recovery through fastboot to make a working/good nandroid backup... However when you want to restore a back up through nandroid you must boot to recovery from fastboot or else it wont wont. One thing i find strange is that i can flash the sengry nightly rom without fastboot through recovery and it works fine but i can not do it to any other roms..
Now, does booting recovery from the fastboot menu work the same as sending the commands through fastboot using pc?

Do you mean booting recovery through bootloader without using fastboot command (With the phone connected to a computer)? If yes, then it doesn't work the same... As booting to recovery with fastboot (phone connecting to computer using fastboot command) allow you to flash Roms/Custom Kernels to your boot partition and using bootloader to boot recovery without fastboot doesn't allow that. Hope this help..

Fastboot boot recovery vs pulling boot.img?

I know pulling the boot.img from the rom is the old way to do things then wiping in recovery and flashing the boot img in fastboot... Then flash the rom in recovery....
Or you could just fasboot boot recovery.img and wipe and flash the rom... without pulling the boot.img
Doesn't these two methods work just the same minus the fact that fastboot boot recovery is just quicker to flash a whole rom....
This is for the hboot 1.5 users.....
I know about flash gui im just asking about using ADB and recovery flashing.....
Either way works fine doesn't it...>< ?
Yes, booting into recovery vía fastboot allows simultaneous flashing of kernel/ROM.
You may also flash a custom kernel zip file in the same fashion.

Ya that is the advantage of using the recovery via fastboot.... But other then that they both get the job done... Minus that fastboot lets you flash the whole rom instead of taking the boot img out.... along with custom kernels....
One stop shop
There's also a app called Flash Image GUI that works pretty good...

need to flash recovery. where to find it. so frustrating

i just unlocked my white evo 3d. i cant find the recovery that i can flash manually by restarting my phone and updating via hboot. the last one i downloaded and tried to flash said the version is older. help me please.
Recovery like clockwork or ruu

like clockwork that i can use to install zips with. im trying to flash a custom recovery
Bump* I'm currently on unlocked hboot 1.5 I don't care which recovery to flash. I've been trying to flash team win VIA rebooting the phone and install manually but it keeps saying that "main version is older" I've tried quite a few files from searching over Google
If you unlocked your phone then the folder you needed to root has the recovery in it. CWM*.Img

Which folder
You could download rom manager and flash it with that.
We're comin from a pure power source.
I just flashed it via fastboot. It worked.

[Q] what else do i need to flash roms

i have unlocked my boot loader flashed amon_ra recovery. am i ready to download and flash a rom or is there anything else i must do first?
You should be set to rock 'n roll! Assuming you went to the developer menu In Amon Ra and installed SU to root.
How would I install ICS, just download and flash or do I need a kernel or something?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
Most of the ROMs have the kernel as a PH update file and will install the kernel after the ROM flashes and goes back to bootloader. Not all of them do this so check the OP for the particular ROM you plan on flashing. They will have instructions for their ROM.
What is a boot.img?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
The BOOT.img contains the kernel and sometimes other files needed to boot into a ROM and use its features. Some ROMS it will be a PH update file, others you flash it using fastboot.
Do I do the boot.img first? Or after the Rom?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
I usually do it after the ROM. If you are flashing it through fastboot, which I assume you are, you can do it either way.

Temporary S-OFF

So several people have said that using "fastboot boot recovery.img" gives you "temporary S-OFF" when you are unlocked via HTCDev and S-ON, it is known to work when flashing ROMs with the boot.img not needing to be flashed separately, but is it really a temporary S-OFF, meaning can you flash HBoot and radios this way?
I don't think so, it just makes it where boot is flashable in recovery.

S-off is the only way to flash boot in recovery. The method described here is only unlocking and flashing a custom recovery. You will still need boot-loader or fastboot to flash boot (kernel

The method in OP and HTC dumlock tricks the system into giving temp s-off. It does work. I have never fastboot flashed a kernel. Always fastboot boot recovery or dumlocked for my ROMs and kernels.
