Kitchen? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Has anyone tried this kitchen? It says it'll work for exynos based gs2 variants, but I just wanted to know if anyone had tried it?

Ya it works. I made several battery mods and changes with it. A very helpful tool that saves u from manually moding the images. You should try it. It works perfectly.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777

You first need a kernel with ClockWorks Mod in it in order to be able to flash the kitchen output to your phone. If you don't know what this means then you need to start reading up on it before you try to do anything with the kitchen.
And a search would have led you to this existing thread on the subject.

I know i need CWM and I'm running entropy's kernel so I'm good to go there, just wanted to make sure it would work on our phone!
Thanks guys

Kitchen definitely works! I made up a bunch of battery mods for stock rom a while back with no issues.

Thanks man, you kernels are my favorite.
To everyone wonder, he did fix the audio popping as well.
Awesome job Geeknik, quick question:
If we wanted to get back to stock, how would we go about that? Is there a kernel removal method? Flash stock kernel? If so, where can I find the stock kernel? Thanks and sorry for the trouble.
Does any one know why, I just flashed 1.76 and now maps fc. Also what to do about it?

Try uninstalling and installing again maps.apk?
I'm having GPS issues on 1.76, even after 5 minutes of standing outside in a open area the GPS will never fully lock. My GPS locks within seconds when using 1.54 so it is def something going on with the 1.76 kernel. Let me know if I can help you debug this further.

I would also like to ask if disable_lagfix is enough to remove voodoo so I can really use this kernel. Or is there a better way to remove voodoo all the way. Thanks and I am using this 1.76 so sorry if this is in the wrong thread

It is for the newer voodoo5 kernels. Older voodoo kernels it is hit or miss.
Ya, I know there is one, but I was wondering if it is necessary to go through all that. I will look anyway

Ok, so we can just flash the kernel without wiping? Do we need DJ05?
After we flash, can we still do Nandroid and restore Nandroid?
How easy is it to remove the kernel and would it require wiping?
I've heard nothing but good things about these kernels...really eager to try one out and finally improve battery life.

I dont think you NEED dj05, but that is the biggest improvement for battery life I have found. The 1.54 and 1.76 kernels were made for dj05 and im sure work best with it. The first one is for di01 and should not be used if you have dj05. But stupid fast is stupid fast and thank you geeknik for your work. As far as wiping, I think it is a good idea to wipe everytime some times twice to get rid of the klinging on things.

If you use a dj05 kernel with a di01 rom, you'll lose haptic.
I'm using his most recent stable, runs great and battery life is much improved.

Path to Custom ROM?

So now that we have root, what is the next step? I am not a Dev, so I'm wondering, someone has to take the system dump, deodex the files? Then, build the custom files that will allow/create the customizations? Sorry for my lack of knowledge, just wondering how far off we are from a custom ROM or at least the ability to run some of the customizations found in say ROM toolbox?
I guess we have to hope that some awesome devs get the Razr.
I will build a rom, but I am not doing anything until a SBF/FXZ file appears that I can restore my phone easily during the testing phase.
Edit: Also WRONG SECTION

[Q] What files in Samsung's XXLP6 ICS ROM are responsible for making MHL TV-out work?

I asked a similar question before, but it wasn't much help.
Does anyone know which files in the XXLP6 ROM makes TV-out via MHL HDMI work? I'm asking because I'm using XXLPB right now and it doesn't seem to work. I don't want to flash XXLP6 because it took me a long time to save my WiFi passwords and install all my apps and stuff.
So I was thinking that if I could flash a CWM ZIP package which contained the working MHL drivers from XXLP6 onto XXLPB, it would save me a lot of time and effort.
I'm a noob who only knows how to flash ROMS, root and use CWM. Are there any pro developers or ROM builders out there who are willing to help??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would really like an awnser to this. Subscribed to the threat. Hope to see something soon!
It shouldn't be that hard. It's just like the screen rotation effect ported from the Galaxy Note to the Galaxy SII but with TV out. I can't make it though because I'm not that awesome.

Try adb push, guides are easy to find via Google. But I don't think it will work. You are most likely going to need to reflash, this is what you get for running alpha roms.

Or maybe I should just give up and wait for an official release.
BUT WAIT!!! Is there some easy sure way to make flashable ZIPs or can someone make them?
I ADB pushed the files onto my phone, but now connecting an HDMI cable doesn't do anything. Before it showed a message saying "Unfortunately, TVout has stopped working." but now nothing happens.
Oh well, I'm just going to wait for a full ICS release for the Galaxy S2.

What you need in custom ROM

Hi guys,
I am one of galaxy s2 die hard fans and i love it! however currently, i am on GB, not planning to move to ICS due to all those bugs and force close thing.
I am planning to make a new ICS custom ROM base on official xwlp7(latest Russian release) and wanna share it with you all.
However, i need some opinions and advises from you all.
Example, what you want/need for a ROM that suits you. I am thinking of OTA thingy for ease of customization, but i might need to "rent" or host my own server for that. I am too new for that, and I don't think i can afford it.
Tell me what you want, like, need, must have and so on.
Btw, can i replace old bootloader for official ICS firmware for usb jig purposes?
What apk is a need and what not. I am still new on this, so my so-call future ROM might or might not come out. Hope i don't give up half way. I know this is gonna be tough for someone new to cook a new ROM like me. I love challenges!
So please leave a comment, i will try to evaluate and hopefully make a useful ROM for you guys. Let's keep the development alive! WEEEEEEE!
Yes you can include old bootloader. Thats what I do when repackaging firmwares.
Also, include the usual, Superuser, Busybox, CWM Recovery.
Personally thats all I would need but cosmetic changes are more my thing. So extra window animations and transitions would be great with a menu in settings to choose from!
Good luck!

A question that I believe many want an answer to.

I personally think that a bunch of people who come across custom roms for their 4.0 galaxy players ask themselves this question, "why aren't there very many roms for my device that are simply flashed through clockwork recovery?" Is it because this device is not very popular? Is it because not very many people know how to put a custom rom in a cwm package? In no way do I want to sound rude, but when I have to flash multiple things onto my device from my computer in order for the tomorto work right as well as not brick my device, it just ruins it for me. There is nothing wrong with roms that require a computer to install, but I personally think that with all those instructions that might not be too clear on what you are support to do, something is bound to go wrong.

This is not that it can't be done, but it the case of ics for the 4.0, it's a bug in the kernel that force us to flash a kernel from heimdall. If this bug was not here, the rom would be simply flashed with cwm. So the answer is it's not because dev don't want to do it like this, it's because they can't.
Couldn't they fix it?

They don't fix it because they don't know what is broken, this is not a choice. This is not that easy to find what is causing a bug and to repair it. You should be a little more thankful of what you already have because without them there would be no custom rom and no recovery. If you really want it so bad just go ahead and fix it then share it with the dev and they will include it.

The problem is that the param.lfs isn't getting updated, probably because their kernel isn't compatible with Samsung's proprietary param.ko (so the bootloader still thinks you're in recovery). If it's not, there's nothing that can be done about it. If it is, they should include that module in the ramdisk. and insmod it with init.rc, and the recovery bootloop will be gone.

You seem to know what your're talking about, maybe you could explain this to zaclimon, the last time I tried to help him he was trying to change the onenand driver so the device have the good partirion layout. It would be nice to get rid of that bootloop.

Well, that's part of it too. I think on the 4.0, the problem may be more complicated than that, due to it's storage layout, (I have the 5.0) but rest assured the devs are working on it.
Please let me know when they fix this bug what I need to do from there.

There's this but mostly because we change the partition (we completely ditch the j4fs support). Also the bootloaders expect to run BML/STL partitions so the bootmode isn't cleared. The thing that teamhackung made is that they created a partition named reservoir that would handle all the bad blocks. This partition is used to flash the boot partition which is the kernel one. This is still an undergoing experimentation for me but I'll try to compile a CM9 with this new type of flashing. An example of the partition layout is here:
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...ung-3.0-ics/drivers/mtd/onenand/samsung_gsm.h
I may miss some things too but this is the things simplified.
Also NATO I do know how you feel about it and I'm trying to do my best (with han and oisis gone) to solve everything as soon as I can. (Don't forget that I have school too )
