One of the reasons why I bought this device was for its front facing camera and purported Video Chat capability. Being that this device uses the Google Android OS, I assumed that Google Video Chat was possible. However, this is not the case and I have been patiently waiting for a software update to enable to this function. Do you know if anything is in the works? And if not, why wouldn't this device be eligible for Google Video Chat?
I had the same problem. Ended up using tango and it works.

Google video chat support is hit or miss in gingerbread. Try Talk 1.3 Installer on the market, needs root but be warned it can be flaky.

It is called Qik Video version 0.04.94 and it has options for
1.Video Chat
2. Record and Share
3. Video Mail
In the Market it is titled Qik for Motorola Atrix
Trouble with Qik is that it is not as popular as Skype. Good news is Skype bought Qik so hopefully the two will merge so we can video chat with Qik AND Skype users. Here's hoping.

Guess fring does not support the front camera on the atrix. Just tried and and that's a "no go" on the front camera. Bummer...
Question is if any of the video calling programs will work with the crippled upload speeds. With Wifi it will work of course....
I and my wife both had iPhone 4 so we could facetime. Now I upgraded to Atrix. Is there anyway we can still do video chat? I thought of using yahoo messenger but it only shows back camera... no front camera...
Get Skype for iPhone. Video calling for android skype is about to be released.
hAVEN'T TRIED IT YET BUT TRY THIS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960942 SRY4CAPS
I'm quite interested in this as well.

Use Tango
I use Tango. It's cross platform so you can video chat from Android to iPhone.
Skype still doesn't support video for Android but they are working on it.

Tango works on the Atrix and iPhone 4, my wife and I use it. I do not believe any other video chat app will currently work cross platform with the Atrix.

I know we had the fix before but after the mandatory update of y! messenger it no longer works... I was wondering if anybody has an updated fix?
Can we not use gmail video chat to do face time?

are you talking facetime as in apple? I think they only allow face time with other apple users
Well. You know how Google has a webcam video chat on gmail via webcam/laptop. Thunderbolt has front facing video camera. why couldn't we use gmail video chat on thunderbolt to talk to people on PC or laptop. Sorry if it is a dumb question.

Hmmmm... I wonder if the Honeycomb GTalk app would enable video chat... I'll try to decompile and fix for 2.2. First I need the apk...any links?

i have a xoom at work that we are testing, I will try to pull the .apk from google talk via titanium backup tomorrow since I have not rooted that device.
I was video chatting on my Xoom to my girlfriend the other night. I forget if it was the in the Talk app or not, pretty sure.
As far as "FaceTime", you can video chat with people using Tango and Yahoo Messenger for now, and Skype (with video calling) is coming soon.

I have definitely used video chat on my Xoom from the Talk app.
Let Google Know
I found a thread asking Google to please get video chat rolling here in the Google support forums.
Yeah I don't know if the Honeycomb GTalk app would just work on Froyo considering that GTalk is apparently heavily baked into a lot of Android features. But this would be an amazing feature. Maybe more people would finally start using GTalk too since it's hard to get my friends to kick their SMS addiction.
Do any android video chat apps let you video chat with someone using a windows desktop?
Thanks!

I'm pretty sure fring has a way to do it. I've done it before, I'm just trying to remember which app it was

The Google Talk application allows you to video or voice chat with anyone that has downloaded the Google Talk Video applcation. It's easy -- if they have not setup the Google Video Chat extension on their computer, they just need to check out their buddy list for the option. It can also be found in Gmail Settings, I believe.
It's unfortunate that Google has not advertised this enough, as I see it as a main feature of Honeycomb.
A new app called VTOK: (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.skymobius.vtok) now does video calling using your rear camera. I tried using this app and found out that its one of the very first ones for doing a video chat. So far, Skype or Gtalk provided only voice services and video chatting was absent.
It was obviously lagging, but nevertheless, it worked fine. Thanks for making this app. It can be easily competing the likes of Skype and Tango. One big requirement(if you are in India) is that you need either WiFi or 3G working to make the video stream. Also, get a good enough mirror so that the absence of a front camera on small devices is taken care of.
My device Specifications:
1) Samsung Galaxy Y
2) ROM: Jelly Blast v3.03
3) Network: 3G: Vodafone Mumbai
Note: I am only a user of this app like you all and not at all a techie. Kindly excuse if I have made some grave mistakes in making my point.
