just swapped to ubuntu 11.10 and i'm going to try to see if i can make a guide for everyone because the cause just saying add this line to something doesnt work for everyone and every version
im not the best with it but i run a linux ps3 for a while as a desktop so i can an idea of what im doing
my biggest problem right now is that i can run the .jar file
can run the jar file because it wasn't marked as a executable file
so i change to executable file in properties
then when i run it with JRE6 nothing happens and when i run it with JRE7 i get java version must be 1.6
Can u xplain wut u doing cause i understand u install ubuntu on ur X10... but also that u wanna instal flash tool on linux(ubuntu)

is there any ready profile for flashtool for xperia mini(ST15i)?
or a guide how to create one?
You mean ripped firmwares for your phone? You'll probably find one in the developers section, in one of the 'root' threads.
Also I think you can make one yourself, the SEUS stores the firmware on your computer temporarily so you could pull it from there. But I am not sure if you need to do anything special to it before it works with the flasher.
i dont mean ripped firmwares. i allready have!! i mean profile so the flashtool recognize the phone!
why do u need the profile for xperia mini? i also have xperia mini, didn't we can flash it with the phone profile?
To get it to recognize the phone all you need to do is install the drivers. I think it's called gorden's gate or something.

I too would love the help and for possibly someone to take me under their wing. I am very eager to learn. I'm always on my phone, and always trying to read, but sometimes the forums just contradict themselves, and let's face it, with all the drama going on in the forum, it can sometimes get a little frustrating trying to ask for help, especially when someone doesn't want to be bothered by a noob. Thanks in advance

Not sure what you are asking. For the sdk tools, do you mean the android sdk? If so, follow the instructions on the sdk page. For the images, I assume you mean the boot.img and possibly system.img. You do not open these. If you have a system.img, that means you probably have a shipped rom. Use the kitchen to create working folder from rom, and choose this. It should auto extract the system partition. As for the boot.img, you don't generally need to extract this, but there is an option in the advanced settings of the kitchen. You can change your rom's kernel in the boot.img.

Hey Guys!
First of all a bit of encouragement. The android kitchen sure as hell does not turn you into a rom developer. I decided i wanted to use the kitchen just over 2 weeks ago and run ubuntu in a virtual window. From then I decided I did not like windows anymore so installed linux as my main os and had to learn that (trust me getting the graphics card to work was a chore) I finally got the kitchen working tonight and decided to sign up to xda. Even with my limited knowledge I have been able to help someone on here tonight. Read Read Read and ask questions if you can not find the right answers on the forum. Research pays off eventually. (I now softmod nintendo wiis professionally from learning off a forum!!!!) Remember everyone has to start somewhere even if you are a noob and don't get disheartened if someone says you should have read this this and this. As long as you learn from ur mistake I'm sure people wont mind too much.

Im about to take the dive myself, still rounding up the tools. Was about to dl virtual...unbuntu etc but read this just now and it makes sence so as much as i want to screwup my phine as fast as possible i think i will follow this advice.
You might have already seen and read but what the hell....

Here's my advice for those looking to make their own Android ROMs.. Stop. Write an app or two first, learn how the system works from a developer standpoint. Learn some Java. Read the developer documentation. Learn how to use Git. Then learn how to build AOSP from source. Read the porting guides, and learn how the build system works (the links below have almost everything you could possibly want to know). Now try to put your new found skills to work on enhancing the platform by writing code or making theme overlays. And share! And put that **** on your resume. There is a *ton* of information out there but any kind of "step-by-step rom cooking guide" is going to be a complete fail- it's too broad of a subject.
Android Developer Guides: http://d.android.com
Working with AOSP source: http://source.android.com
Platform Developer Guide: http://pdk.android.com
Android Gitweb: http://android.git.kernel.org
Git Ready (Git tips and tricks): http://www.gitready.com/
Building CyanogenMod: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.ph...ng_from_source
How Dexopt works and what are those odex files: http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=pla...5936;hb=master
The PDK site is absolutely vital if you are going to work on custom ROMs. Read every single page. Twice. Some of the info isn't up to date, but you'll get a really good idea about what goes into actually configuring Android to work on a real device.

What version of Linux are you running? Are you running Ubuntu? I never had much luck using the Android Kitchen in a virtual environment for some reason. When I installed Ubuntu as my main OS, however, that made all the difference. From there you'll also need to make sure you have the Java Developers Kit (JDK) installed or at least open-jdk (Open source alternative) installed in order to run the Android Kitchen or the SDK for that matter.
There's a really good tutorial on how to set up the SDK on Ubuntu 10.10 or Ubuntu 11.04 which is what I had used to set up the SDK on linux for the first time. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=921169
I prefer 10.10 just because I'm not huge on Ubuntu's newer Unity interface and my old laptop seems to run 10.10 a lot better than 11.04 or 11.10 but that's another story.
Once you have the SDK setup, you can then run the kitchen accordingly.
I use a tool called Android Utility by tommytomatoe which is essentially a collection of tools for creating custom ROMs, editing apk's, etc. It just happens to also include dsixda's kitchen which is a nice plus. You can download that here: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/3303-utility-android-utility-apktooldex2jarsmalimoremac-linuxoct09-2011/
Hope this helps. Good luck, dood!
**Edit** My bad... There's also a thread for Android Utility on XDA also....

Just checking. So you downloaded JDK7? It should be released today. You need JDK6 and make sure you install it to the default directory.

I recall having this problem in some instalation program. Maybe it was the android SDK
Try the following:
- Install until you get the error message.
- Return back to previous screen
- Try to install again.
If I'm right and this is the correct program that did that, the error will not appear the second time

It's on java.net, under older versions or something. Or just google jdk6u31. Android doesn't work with JDK7. JBQ hinted that Jellybean might, but not current versions.

didnt work either .
it might be because of a wrong jave.exe path at the JAVA_HOME
can someone check his JAVA_HOME path and write it to me .
i tried all of those :-
C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_32\bin
C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_32
C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin
C:\Program Files\Java\jre6
C:\Windows\System32
the download path of the jdk was :-
c:\program files\java ( the default installation path )
or :-
can u tell how to restore the path to default
thanks in advance
best wishes
If the issue was related to the JDK 7 it might be that it didn't change the default Java in the registry to 6 when you installed Java 6.
Check on the registry if you have something like this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Javasoft\Java Development Kit]
"CurrentVersion"="1.6"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Javasoft\Java Development Kit\1.6]
"JavaHome"="C:\\Program Files\\Java\\jdk1.6.0_26"
"MicroVersion"="0"
The double backslash is just on the export. On the actual registry it appears only once.
But I still find strange that it didn't work with my previous comment. I just confirmed and my problem was exactly with the android SDK.
So it is better to double check
See the following link:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4382178/android-sdk-installation-doesnt-find-jdk
So on the window here you get the error you should press back and then press next again. You should not cancel or close the window.
Was this what you tried?
---------- Post added at 12:28 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:17 AM ----------
On other page I saw the following comments:
"There is also problem with 64bit JDK - doesn't work with ADK, you must have 32bit JDK (same error is displayed)."
"I solve the problem by reinstalling the JRE and the JDK as an administrator
by right clicking on the EXE files an choose "Run as administrator".
after that the Android SDK installation found it with no problems."
Besides this check the comments on the page I mentioned. might be there is a solution for it there.
Hope you find a solution for your problem

Mate what we are talking about is how to test a ROM on ur PC Using a Emulator of ur android Device like S4 and test ur own Custom Roms whether they work or not. So we dont have to Install it on our device and have a Chance of HARD BRICK.
There is an EMULATOR called Eclipse which run ur ROMS on ur PC by Selecting the hardware TYPE or Device TYPE of ur model
Found something?

hey there, can someone please help me setup dsixda's android kitchen properly, I have followed everything to the letter but it is still coming up with clear command not found,, im running windows 8 I have installed everything I needed but its still not working,, any help to get it working will get thanks
Dsixda's Kitchen (or probably Cygwin itself) doesn't support Windows 8
This was sent from a Galaxy Ace. Problem?
hmm thanks, I am reverting back to windows 7 in about half hour once all my downloads have gone to my other hdd,, then I will try again
also does it support the ace cuz I was gonna use kitchen to edit some roms
all still a no go at the moment,, i really want to use this to mod some roms, is there anything else i can use insted of cygwin and kitchen
Do you even know how the Kitchen works ?
This was sent from a Galaxy Ace. Problem?
well not at the moment,, all i want to do is get to the menu just to check i have it working but i cant,, i want to learn, but i think its a bit hard as i am running windows

i am using dsixda's windows guide, and im using the latest jdk
omg this is SOO annoying, im should just give up now, if i cant even get cygwin and kitchen to work how am i gonna mod roms -_-
The easiest way is if you make a Ubuntu Live Stick or install Ubuntu on another partition.
I also was not able to set up kitchen on my Windows 7 Pc so i installed Ubuntu on my old Laptop and it worked instantly
i have snow leopard on vmdk, but using the virtual pc it wont reconise my external hdd
and im using a laptop with half a screen LOL, hooked up to my tv via hdmi, so theres no point repartitioning my hdd and installing ubuntu anything, im lucky i have installed windows too many times that i know were all the buttons are
im not a ubuntu person and have only used its years ago once,, any hints for setting up kitchen, im installing ubuntu now with windows installer hope it works
hey guys, got ubuntu on a seperate partition on my laptop now,, can you guys help me on how to start making my own rom???
