Can I run an Android ROM without installing it on my device?
Correct me if I'm wrong but there is a way through Android Developer kit. It runs on emulator though

Mate what we are talking about is how to test a ROM on ur PC Using a Emulator of ur android Device like S4 and test ur own Custom Roms whether they work or not. So we dont have to Install it on our device and have a Chance of HARD BRICK.
There is an EMULATOR called Eclipse which run ur ROMS on ur PC by Selecting the hardware TYPE or Device TYPE of ur model

Hi Mate,
Ya I have got something called as Android Studio if your running Linux OS and Eclipse if running windows ... Just download the Android SDK and the required packages with all the API and stuff and your are good to go..

just swapped to ubuntu 11.10 and i'm going to try to see if i can make a guide for everyone because the cause just saying add this line to something doesnt work for everyone and every version
im not the best with it but i run a linux ps3 for a while as a desktop so i can an idea of what im doing
my biggest problem right now is that i can run the .jar file
can run the jar file because it wasn't marked as a executable file
so i change to executable file in properties
then when i run it with JRE6 nothing happens and when i run it with JRE7 i get java version must be 1.6

I am not very good at android developing but follow this steps you'll succced!
1. download moborobo pc suite for all andoird
2. install it and connect your phone once you get your phone connected.
3. go to your Documents\moborobo\DeviceInterface\Bin\.android . you'll find adb_usb.txt.
copy paste it to your user/.android/ and you're done!
4. now if you've installed android sdk tools (if not then do it)
5. open cmd and then type adb devices you'll see your device listed andyou're almost done.
6. download and install unlockroot and click on root you'll see your device popping up select it and within few seconds you're done!!
Tell me once if somebody get success or not!

Did everything as mentioned by you. Unlockroot shows an error: Failed to get shell root !

I have rooted several unrootable devices such as a45 and a52, illl root the a78, i just want the stock boot.img..

Google Romdump and use it with psneuter it works fine for all devices to get stock rom
psneuter can also be used for rooting along with unlockroot

I have Recently obtained and rooted a Double Power (DoPo) TD-1010 Tablet running ICS.
As it is a generic Chinese RK3066 tablet, I have not seen much support for it here.
I would like to know how to extract the necessary files needed to create a stock ROM for this device, in the event that I brick the device.
If all goes well, I plan to release the ROM, as there have been a select few others in need of it as well.
You have to be running on a Linux distro and use a tool called rkflashtool in conjunction with a script that will backup the .img's from your nand.

The script is called simpledump.sh you will also need to compile a file called mkkrnlimg.c
These have to all be in in your usr/bin folder in Linux, your $Path.

CWM is not supported from the app available on the market. Not interested in manually flashing the Recovery.img, in the event something decides to go terribly wrong.

Hi Guys, Few Days Ago I Posted Topic On How To Root Spreadtrum SC8810 Device But No One Was Accurate Enough. I Posted The Same Question On GSM Forum But No One Replied. This Is The 1st Tutorial Abt Rooting All Spreadtrum/Mediatek '&&' Many Other Processors With A Single Click.
Steps:
1) Download USB Drivers For Your Phone. (Google For It). If You Can't Find Drivers For Your Phone Then Contact Me.
2) Download VRoot (Self Modified Version) From Here : Mod Edit: Links removed
3) Install The Program.
4) Connect Your Phone Via USB.
5) Turn On USB Debugging In Your Phone. For 2.3 '&' Lower: Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging
For 4.0 '&' Above:
Advance Settings>USB Debugging

4) Run The Program.

If you have trouble getting ADB driver installed use www.snappea.com, it can install a generic adb driver that will work for what we need!

Edit : I noticed in your old guide that you could remove the chinese superuser after installing english superuser and updating, I've done that
and the prompts now come up from the english superuser, but the chinese one has made itself a system app somehow and I can't delete it,
is there a solution for that or should I just disable it and ignore it.

So you get english superuser prompts when something asks for root? Try using Titanium Back up to uninstall the chinese superuser app.

Size Of Chinese SuperUser Might Be Like 700 Kb. It Wont Affect You Much. So Just Leave It As It Is! !

It is actually quite simple to swap out the chinese superuser for the SuperSU or english Superuser if you know how. I posted how in my post about using Vroot.

Also - for most devices needing an ADB driver, just install snap pea from here: www.snappea.com It will install a generic ADB driver that will work just fine with any and every device I have used it on so far! You might also consider referencing or linking the developer of this tool since it is not of your own design. :good:

I want to test my own build custom rom before flashing to the phone itself.
Flashing the rom everytime on the phone then check for errors is messy.
So, how can I test/run my rom on pc first? I have googled it but i can't get my rom working on emulator.
Step by step guide for scratch would be helpful

As far as I googled, I think it requires android sdk and avd and bluestack would not work.
