[Q] Atrix Hardware Problem Touchscreen - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The top part of my Atrix would not fully respond to touch, and so I ordered a replacement digitizer for it. I installed the digitizer today and instead of the problem being fixed, the area of non responsiveness has increased, the 1 inch or so below the initial deadspot is also not responding. Also, the proximity sensor fails to turn off when I'm in a call and the phone is not near my face. What other hardware problem could it be that's causing the dead spot on my touchscreen and how to fix it?

I had the same exact problem when I first got my atrix and When I did a research on the issue I found out that I wasn't the only one and it turned out that it was a factory defect...if your atrix is still under warranty you shouldn't have any problem of getting a replacement

Oh man,
The problem is the boot loader is unlocked and I did go and replace the digitizer myself, so I'm pretty sure the warranty is voided. Any solutions or am I dead in the water?

hehe! Its kinda weird solution but it'll work! Just hard brick your device! If you are in gingerbread & flash any lower SBF the phone will be hardbricked. So you won't be able to go the bootloader state.
So then you talk to Motorola & say them you screwed things up while updating the set to GB. (Be a stupid in front of them)
They'll replace your phone.
Its not the great solution but it may work perfectly!

i did this..works:]

Had a cracked screen so I ordered a new digitizer. the old digitizer worked but was cracked all across the screen. I carefully removed the broken screen and replaced it. its now not responsive at all. I checked for damage to the ribbons but see no tearing crimping or other signs of damage, is it possible the replacement i ordered was defective? I mean lcd works great, volume rockers work in recovery but no touch response on screen.

I don't think thats the case because my screen was responsive with the damaged screen. I connected the ribbon clip several times to no avail. I am leaning towards faulty replacement digitizer. thanks for your response though.
Edit: the digitizer I ordered was damaged, I have since replaced it and it works great

[Q] Oh my poor Aria! (Screen Replacement issues. A little help please?)

Well I did it... Broke the screen a couple of weekends ago. Ordered and received a new one. (No problem and not too bad price-wise) Then I ordered the correct screwdriver. That came in yesterday and I followed a couple of tutorials online to take the thing apart. Not too bad despite the teeny-tiny parts. I got it back together and lo-it worked! Actually it took a couple of tries and I reflashed it but then it booted right up. All the apps seemed responsive and life was good once again...
Until I tried to make a call. Then the screen went dark and it appeared that the phone froze up. Called myself from the house phone and discovered that the Aria was dialing, connecting, and sending voice but that I couldn't hear anything on the Aria.
Disassembled, re-set the earpiece, reassembled, called myself again, and I could hear. The screen came on and stayed on, but the touchscreen would not function.
Disassembled, checked all the connections, and reassembled again. The phone appears to work correctly in all aspects until I try to make or receive calls. At that point the screen shuts down and the only way to disconnect a call (or get the screen back) is to pull the battery and reboot.
I tried reflashing the ROM and that didn't work. I'm afraid the transceiver is shorting the screen out somehow but have reached the limits of my expertise.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jerry
I have never had to replace my digitizer so only speaking from what i have read but it sounds like the very small rubber piece that covers the proximity sensor. I have read that if missing or not placed correctly people have had the same problem as you. Just my thoughts
I've replaced my digitizer and I have had the exact same problem. E.Cardo is correct, it is the small rubber piece on the proximity sensor not positioned correctly or not present at all.
Thanks to both of you. The proximity sensor is supposed to be right behind the ATT logo, correct?
I can't wait to get home and try this. I really don't like the backup Cliq Xt... I'll post once I've messed with it.

It's hard to see them exactly so I took a picture to show exactly where they are:
http://imgur.com/a/36h8t#ayQhv
It's actually just above the & in the at&t logo, although if you have a replacement digitizer, it might not have the at&t logo on it. If you have trouble seeing it, try looking at it in the sunlight.
To add to what drumist said there as small black rubber piece that goes around the proximity sensor that prevents light seepage and allot of people discard it by mistake when disassembling the phone.

Why did you have to reflash? The new screen didn't worked?.
My aria's screen is broken too. I boutgh a new one but It doesn't work. Do you resolve this reflashing? (that's mean applying the new rom version from ATT)
Thanks for your response.

The screen or digitizer are hardware they should have nothing to do with the rom. The op only tried flashing the phone to illuminate it is a possible source of the problem. It sounds like you did not install the new screen or digitizer correctly you may need to disassemble and make sure everything is connected correctly and securely. Flashing your phone will most likely not correct your problem.

Maybe, just maybe, there are new drivers for the touchscreen included in the rom. I am using cyanogen 7.0.3 without problems, and it works nice with the old screen.
Or the new screen is defective.
I am pretty sure I installed correctly the new screen. Of course the old one is working fine right now.
I requested a new screen so I will wait...
Thanks again.

Touch does not work on small parts of the screen

All of a sudden few small parts of my screen stopped responding to touch. When typing texts or emails, letters "T" and "G" do not work in portrait mode and "E" doesnt work in landscape. I did some research and it seems to be digitizer or moisture problem. I did not expose the phone to any moisture before it happened... I tried to do hard reset to eliminate software issues. Do you think this will be covered under warranty?

if it's a digitizer issue, then yes it should be. if it's a moisture issue, then it's water damage and you'll be forced to fix it yourself.
you should be able to, I recently exchange mine and it had an unlock bootloader just go to an AT&T customer center (assuming you have warranty with them) they'll swap it right up. (Back up your files, contacts, etc. Cuz they are not gonna fix it but replace it)
I just got my phone replaced for the same reason.
If there's no water damage etc., definitely get AT&T/Motorola to replace your phone for you.
I think its starting to happen to alot of people... mine went out a few weeks ago... but I'm at school and haven't had alot of time to send it in... thankfully I have an older phone with me.
best chance is you have to replace the digitizer, i tried everything i can to fix my but nothing worked, so i had to replace the screen. Motorola should follow Nokia and did some testing before selling the phone

[Q] Screen problems. Hardware or software?

HTC legend. Screen behave very strangely.
When you turn phone on its kind a OK, but in some time strange things happen.
Some parts of screen are unresponding. Or for example if you slide at the bottom of the screen it acts as if you pull status bar down.
Some times every touch tries to pull status bar down. But then again it will be normal.
Is that a hardware or software problem.
I tried hard reset too, didnt help. So is it screen itself then?
I would change it, but still not sure about it. Why its not bad all the time?
Thanks for all the help.
Search for TouchRecalibrate in Market maybe that helps.

hardware i'm afraid.
had the same problem after my phone got wet along with me in bat-****-crazy storm.
you don't need to replace the lcd, just the digitizer.
i picked one up off ebay for £10.
the replacement process is kinda scary in places - mainly prising the digitizer off the lcd.
if you're still under warranty and the damage wasn't obviously caused by yourself (that includes getting water inside the casing - the water residue gives it away unfortunately) i'd flash back to stock and rma it.
Well I thought it will be digitizer too.
Already ordered one. And yes, my missus dropped it in to a toilet after just 2 months since she bought it new. Just didn't had time to get to it till now. And warranty doesn't apply for this
She should have bough same like me - Defy

[Q] fix hard brick

Hard bricked. The device didn't turn on after restoring ROM/ flashing new ROM from CWM (can't remember because it was a long time ago). The download mode/ recovery mode doesn't work.

Why get a new motherboard instead of JTAG
Because it's unlikely a JTAG would work. If the NAND is stuffed, it needs to be replaced. Samsung don't sell NAND's separately (or new motherboards without an authorised service centre performing the swap), so you replace the whole board; either a service centre putting a new board in, or you get a 2nd hand board from a broken/donor phone & you swap it yourself.

Can I use a i9100g motherboard instead of i9100?
No. Read up on the differences between the i9100 and i9100G. They have different processors for a start.

Hi guys,
I bought an i9100 with cracked screen, it would turn on and welcome sound could be heard but nothing would be displayed, not the boot logo. I replaced my motherboard with it. But now the problem is, LCD seems to be not working. When I turn on the device, welcome sound can be heard and I can unlock the phone but can't see anything. While the phone is still on and I lock&unlock my phone using power button, the screen kinda flashes white. Do you think the problem is with my LCD or motherboard itself?:crying: Screen was perfectly fine before I hard bricked my phone.
Thanks.
LCD is Damaged!!

Nah!!! :silly: this cant be a motherboard problem as you can hear the lock and unlock sound and the screen is flashing... this means that the motherboard is fine and working but looks like the LCD is not working.
oops!! This means the only solution to the problem is to change the LCD Screen as there is no other way to fix this!!
Sorry!!

Oh, I was thinking that maybe the part of the motherboard where we connect the LCD flex cable was damaged because my screen still kinda lights across the screen when I unlock it and my screen was fine before hardbrick/replacing mobo.
Go Ahead

well i suggest its better you fix this issue as it wont cost you much and looks like the motherboard is working fine... so there is no problem

Yeah I tried to fix this issue and ordered a new LCD but it also does not show anything on the screen so I guess mobo is the problem?

[Q] Need Help with screen

So it looks like a small part of the top of my screen is dead, already tried everything and no luck, The draw line test shows about a 10% of the screen not working. I think this might be a hardware problem, but not sure.
If its the hardware, is it possible to only replace the Digitizer glass, without replacing the LCD screen?
Where can I buy the part (hopefully Original, I read that third party replacements are usually disappointing, because of quality.)? I tried searching in ebay and amazon and was only able to find for the HTC one X not the plus version.
Is it too hard to replace or i'm better saving for a new phone?
Do you mean the area where the status bar is? My HOX+ also doesn't recognize touches there. It happened suddenly 5 months ago when I was playing games . However, I used to it and it is not a big problem, I will give it to repair when I get on vacation .
I already made some researches on the internet and it is not an uncommon problem for touch screens. Yes, it is the digitizer's fault.

Exactly the same problem, upper part of the screen (all notification bar). I have an OCD and this tiny things bug me a lot. I guess now I need to find a digitizer to replace it, the problem is that on ebay and other sites there are not HOX+ available, all are for the HOX.
Is there any difference between HOX and HOX+ digitizers? I thought both got the same screen.
I'm not an expert so I won't fix it on my own, better send it back to service .
Btw. I've read one time that you can put a piece of paper between the bezel and grill to clean some mess up which could get inside the phone. I was wondered that I was able to slip the paper there, but it didn't work .

yes it will work, but you can't only change the digitizer, it's too hard glued together. I broke my LCD connector while replacing the screen although
I was really careful, so it's not as easy as everyone says.
Thx, i will keep that in mind.
