hi buddies! i installed last kernel 09 and rom 2.1.7 for e10i, i also tried to increase max freq to 691 or 729 but sooner or later it rebooted,so finally i remains with 122/600 however it runs smooth! i must say i also installed go launcher ex as suggested by matmutant in one replay, set compcache to deffault 18 and raised cache memory size of sd card from 128 to 1024 kbs. my question is that i run out of ram memory in impressive way but when i look in active applications i. settings i cant find the biggest eater of ram. i took some screenshots to show u if you can help me with any advice or something, like uninstalling aps,adw launcher, stopping aps... i remember when using kernel 06 with rom 2.1.5,undervolt,interactivex governor, compcache 18,and supercharged with adw launcher it has always 50 mb free!!
thx for all your help in this forum
(i cant attached the screenshots, ill try to post them later)
screenshots added,thx people

you mean go launcher? or adw launcher? I have both now... at least go launcher does not force close as adw does sometimes, but if you mean its go launcher which eats my ram... I'll have to uninstall it... because I suppose it's useless to uninstall adw, because if I don't use it, it can't eat ram, can it? However, today I tried one adviced I used from Pedrocel's guide (i hope not to confuse the name) for optimal config, related to set "purge assets of active" (or somthing like that) and I can see more free ram now!! but not much more.
Thanks anyway for your answer rooterdam, just if you could tell me which launcher you meant... thank you!!
I think he ment that you delete GO Launcher, i had same problem with this app but i was on stock 2.1 rom on my x10 mini pro. And now i use ADW Launcher that came with miniCM7 2.1.7.

GO launher ex.
It´s an awesome launcher except for it´s memory use...
have you try using ramscript? v6supercharger or ram manager by juwe?
just try it, because I use GO launcher ex too and never have problems with memory
and in CMsetting->performance enable the jit, surfacedithering, 16bit transparency, purging of assets, 48 in VM heap size, 1024 sdcard cache, and disable compcache ram
with all of that I can have 70-80 free memory if I kill all app
hope this can help you, and sorry for my bad english

thx man!! i tried what you said about cyanogen settings and it seems to have improved a little bit!! however i was told by matmutant its not necessary to use supercharger with this rom,but you say ur experience is good, isn't it? you use supercharger v6 or the other one? because i used supercharger with previous roms and it worked really well... if u could post here the link to yor ram script it would be great!! thx people for ur attention!! oh!! one more thing... in cyanogen setrings u suggested to disable compcache, while matmutant advised me to set it on 18%. i dont understand what is it for,if anyone can answer me?... thx people!!
hey peoplee!! i wanted to share with you my last experience!! now my phone is faster than ever and no lags or fc till now... finally i came back to v6 supercharger with. na09 and mcm 2.1.7, i tried ram manager but i didnt see any difference... only 20 mb ram free. i backed to my settings, uninstalled ram manager and used supercharger, bullet proof launcher + oom group fixes. now i have over 50 mbs ram free even connected to internet with my wifi... i also uninstalled go launcher but i didnt go back to adw, very laggy for me. instead i installed zeam launcher, four words... simple, cute, fast,GORGEUS!! THX for all your impressions...
glad to help you

I usually delete the following items...
DSPmanager "free's quite a bit of memory"
GenieWiget "since the buttons in the status bar do it all anyway"
Google quick search bar.
But i'm sure there's more i could get rid of.
What else can we remove without destroying stability?
i always delete this items in .zip before flashing minicm. of course, you can delete those apps if you have already flashed rom. just use: a) titanium backup and delete them there, OR b) use root explorer and navigate to system/apps and remove unwanted apps.
androidian - 4MB - useless theme for me, which even isnt ldpi
applicationsProvider - Fetches the list of applications installed on the phone to provide search suggestions.
browser - 320 kb - really bad browser, i use dolphin browser hd
calculator - i use realcalc
cmstats
cmupdatenotify
cmwallpapers - 2,5MB
cyanbread - 3,6 MB also useless theme
dspmanager - always drains battery in background, and i really havent see any difference in playing music with it
email -1,5 MB - there are better alternatives
file manager - i use rootexplorer
gallery - use quickpic app instead, it's amazing and super fast
htmlviewer
latinime - 13 MB - i dont use this keyboard, its really too hard to use it on our devices, when you delete it, automatically is used standard multitap sony keyboard
livewallpapers - 3,8 MB if you dont use them you can delete this too
livewallpaperspicker
orangehaze - 1,7 MB - also, i don't use this theme
pacman - i think that this app asks you which gapps you want to install on first boot
picotts - text to speech
protips - that annoying android guy what is providing you tips on first boot after flashing
userdictionary provider - needeed for latin ime
quicksearchbox 1,0 MB - i also dont use this, on mini pro, when opening keyboard on launcher, that search box launches.
soundrecorder - also, i use different apps for this purpose
voice dial
voice search
vpn services
there are more apps that can safely be removed, this is just my standard 'setup'.
at start, rom was about 90,5 MB in size, and after removing this apps got to 66,9 MB.
look my system free memory ^^

Do you think it would be possible to delete adw launcher if u have other launcher? I'm using Zeam launcher...,Has anyone tried? Of course!I didn't see it from that point. Thx man, but how could i install in system? Could u help me? in the meanwhile, if i don't do factory reset i won't have trouble booting with only zeam, will I? In that case if I need factory reset i could reflash the ROM and adw and the whole stuff would be there, don't u think? however i think I'm going to try because I've deleted three more things i couldn't find before like androidian and cyanbread themes, and Latinime and i reached 85mb of free ram according to titanium backup
However if u could answer my questions i would appreciate it
Hi people! I think I've reached my maximum! I've deleted everything mentioned here, in Pedrocell optimal configuration thread and everything i thought wasn't dangerous ;-) like adw launcher having other launcher installed in inside memory, useless themes mentioned here, cm notifications, cm stats, pro tips, setup wizard (which is only used the first time u run the ROM)... I suggest u to see everything u have going through the copy restore menu of titanium backup and carefully uninstall all u won't need... This is my result! ;-)

Ive deleted all of that stuff and I have the same free mem 85mb and to get zeam into system/app u have to download zeam from a diffrent source than the market I cant post links because of xdas rules then with root explorer copy and paste zeam to system/app then change permissions to 755 wich is tick all the boxes on left hand side and on top line tick the middle one then exit then reboot
BUT before u delete adw make sure it boots proplery with zeam installed just to be on the safe side hope this helps ya pal ;-)

Thx mate! But i could not wait and i tried different way which works perfectly, it boots well and i would say faster... I uninstalled zeam after coping it with titanium,i went to cm settings, apps, unticked allow move apps, ticked install in inside memory, ran titanium and restored zeam.later i uninstall adw, rebooted my phone and everything is ok! ;-) anyway thx a lot for your help... Now our phone is a missile! and I'm using Swype beta again because i love it but it consumed too much ram, Now it doesn't matter any more! And fruit ninja and other games are running really smooth, and all the phone in general...
Don't give me an iPhone,i keep my mini!
how does i can replace adw launcher ex in mini cm 2.1.9 with go launcher in the system app?
I already copy go launcher apk into system/data/ and installed it right away. (using root explorer). I also already deleted adw launcher.apk and its odex.
Rebooted the phone , find everything works just fine.. just one exception though, as we all know, the adw launcher in mini cm7 2.1.9 doesn't run in background (as shown by Settings>Manage Applications>Running ) while this go launcher runs in the background and eats RAM.
Is it normal? Or anyone care for an explanation? Or any way better to replace adw launcher ex with go launcher in system apps? TQ
Its normal.
Golauncher is really really RAM hungry.
why dont you try zeam launcher?? its in market too and its a minimalistic launcher which eats less ram and runs really smooth!! i've been using it for long time!!
or maybe other thing you can try to avoid that consumption is to install ram manager pro, and set in its different modes of managing ram "Balance(more free ram)", I use it combined with zeam launcher i mentioned and with opened apps like whatsapp, my favourite keyboard (swype, which eats a lot of ram), opera mini... I always have from 60 to 70 mb of free ram...
I suggest you to take a look to the thread "lets free up some memory" from the general threads... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1512533 You will increase a lot your free ram memory to install go launcher if you want...
If you follow all this advices you'll see the highest free ram memory you've ever seen in your phone... and simply it will fly!!!
if I can help more just tell...

Hy.. i od done the ram manager pro.. yeah it's quite good especially in gaming.. but; when using ram manager pro, i've checked Settings>Manage Applications>Running and still.. i only got around 20MB Free left.. along with Go Launcher Ex+Notification...
And i already deleted many of the system apps, and got a quite good internal memory around 60mb ..
i also already got v6 supercharger script on..
but the question is, running application still shows 20MB free RAM left... is what it had shown is innacurate? does the ram pro manager is really working? i can see the effects when i play games but it didn't change the number of my unused RAM
..still 20MB
anyway, thanks for d help, i'm glad to know somebody's is trying to help in here
when view running services, it shows setting 15mb ... this means when i opened settings to check how many RAM i got, this also consumes RAM right? if then, is there any other way to check my free RAM?(without consuming so much RAM)
getting more n more confuse ...
Anyway, just 4 d info.. this shows my running services .. ( right after rebooted)
Settings ..11MB
GO Launcher Ex..10MB
Go Launcher EX Notification..14MB
Default Input ..6.3MB
FREE ram left: 46MB
Normal usage ...(after txting, phone, browser, facebook, close all the apps n check for the ram)
The above service plus Google Service which has 2 service running and Music(i dun think i ever turn on that music thingy btw, does it restart itself?)
which leaves about.. 20MB free

i remember in both threads (supercharger and ram manager) was recommended not to be use with other tweaks or scripts... as they are designed to do their purpose alone... if i were u i would give a try to both and keep the one which gives u better results but not both. personally i prefer ram manager pro (remeber, always pro not free version because it had more options). but u can try both and u decide... i used superchsrger too but with previous roms... this last rom doesnt need to be superchatged any more. its my opinion... if anyone else want to ad something different is welcome

I agree. I think we don't need supercharger. I'm using auto memory optimizer and it works perfect for me. Also try the 360 launcher, it's a very slim, fast and nice launcher, which is never in the "ram list". You can port the desktop settings from adw (i didn't try it from another launcher yet)

is the default launcher in every rom are not in the running list? are they designed to be that way? i mean the devs are cooking the apks, make the odex, and they will running without being showed up in the running list?
i wonder if i can make go launcher as a default system/data/apps launcher in my mini cm7 2.1.9
Don't know. But i also using go launcher. And ram i solid around 40 50. Because i freeze dsp manager (using power amp - had great eq)
P.s. If some other launcher, adw or l.pro make posibility for make folders in app drawer than i will use them.

i dont see my zeam launcher in running app list.. what i did before installing it was untick the option allow move apps from cm settings/apps and tick move to internal..anyway it doesnt place it in system apps. if u want to do that a member of xda explained how to do it manually in the general thread lets free up memory. i think it was to place the go launcher apk(so u cant download from market because it would install automatically, look for it in google) in ur system folder where the others system apps are placed using root explorer, and u have to give it permissions (tick the three boxes onthe left and the one in the middle of the up row,the others unticked), then boot ur phone.
anyway check the thread i mention to see im right.
hope to help u

Zeam launcher also allows you to make folders... They are not as cute or beautiful as go's ones but make their function to keep all your things in 7 screens
Furthermore, I have tried all of them and I keep using Zeam due to smooth scrolling, transition, free Ram...
Lol. Only go launncher and 360 can make folders in APP DRAWER!

Sorry man! I didn't notice the"app drawer"detail :O you are right...in zeam launcher i can't do folders inn app drawer, but yes in home screen, but i didn't notice that since i hardly use app drawer because i have all my apps well organized along the 7 screens i can't tell in adw since i don't have it any more and i didn't try when i had it... So if it's so important for you zeam definitely is not your launcher

its an app developed by a xda developer, which optimices ur RAM depending on ur needs... to have more free ram,to multitasking or to play hard games.... and its very easy to deal with, just install it and select the option which fits better for you.
if you want to try its in market in donate version.there is a free version too but it hasnt all the options,so i recomend u the pro version.
I'm using ram manager pro on minicm7
ram manager pro
ops sorry.. i mean ram manager pro
i used both now.. when benchmark, the scores are lower than when i'm using either ram manager pro/supercharger ..
anyhow i od try ram manager pro without supercharger, but it lags whenever i try to click open drawer of my go launcher ex.. so i stick to both ryte now. i dun care bout the benchmarking result, as long as i got more RAM . i got around 70MB RAM

I have the same issue, it is really frustrating with the new "powerful" SGS3...any solution?
Also, is it possible to change the Grid size?, I mean, with so big screen how is possible that the TouchWiz only uses 4x4

Only 2gb ram may solve this issue.

Yes mine does it too. When I have used an app for the first time some times it will take a while to go back to the home screen after pressing home. The bottom buttons will appear then a second or two later the widgets then another second or two the rest of the icons appear. Makes the phone appear to be SOOO slow. I was showing it to a friend and he just laughed and walked away with his WP7 handset saying... stupid android. HAHAHA
Same here - can not reproduce when it happens. Mostly while going back from "settings" - very annoying

That really has nothing to do with the Galaxy S III.....
My one x had this problem with sense reloadng. Custom Rom fixed it by making it persistent. Just have to wait for devs..

Sorry... I figured that since it is for the s3, but theyve had it longer... And reported fixing the redraw, that maybe it was related...

Could be, but it would have to be adapted for a totally different phone.

You need the lib that comes with it. Its nit standard in ALE.
I've seen the launcher reload I think twice now but it only happened to me when the browser crashed due to a locked up flash plugin. The launcher reloaded fast though so I sort of thought it was acceptable due to the flash crash. But yeh it's not ideal. Hopefully an update will fix whatever is causing it.
I can confirm this issue. I this its due to the RAM. The launcher takes up a lot off RAM, sometimes I only have 100mb of free RAM left and Im not playing games etc.

Ui redrawing problem in my galaxy s3 ....its taking 5 secomds or more to load......pls help asap ??.....
The fix is simple, download Xposed, then install AppSettings for xposed, when done, activate and reboot the phone. When all that done, open AppSettings and find TWLauncher.apk (i think that's the name, not sure, double check), click on it, tick Permissive, then tap save in the upper right corner, reboot the phone, benefit!
No more TW launcher redraws, xposed will keep it in memory.
Cheers

Well, there is no other way, but why don't you want to root your phone?
I mean, you will enter a whole new world and you can have a faster phone (not simply with rooting it), but with for example, installing xposed and getting touchwiz into memory, installing greenify from playstore and hibernating your apps (significantly improves battery life), installing cusotom kernel in wich you can set various settings (for speed or battery life), also, you will have a lot of custom roms to choose, wich improve the speed of your phone with their tweaks.
You don't know what you're missing
But, if you don't want to root your phone, and read all the posts on how to do it, how to install roms/kernels or modify your phone, then you can simply download Nova Launcher, which is IMO the best, fastest and most customizable launcher which uses smaller amount of memory than touchwiz, believe me, you won't see any redraws from it.
If you decide to do this, you dont have to have root, just install it from playstore
And please, use only nova, or apex, because others are just like touchwiz, full of bloat, ads, and useless stuff that'll make things slow.
Cheers

Hey xda
I have recently fallen in love with the stock android look. I really dont want to waste my warranty by flashing and rooting so i just use 3rd party apps for it. I use holo locker (free) and nova launcher and wanted to know if this will affect any ram or battery perforlance? If i check my ram with having no apps opened, im already at 600 - 650 mb used of the 832mb. I also want to know if using those apps will use more battery than the stock samsung ones? Or atleast noticable.
Thanks in advance

Battery no clue, ram, I assume it will use more ram as you run more apps.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Yes of course ur choice of launcher will affect ram usage for example the stock touching uses about 50 mb with widgets
Nova launcher uses about 45 mb
Zeam launcher uses about 25 mb
And default launcher on a nexus 4 that is goggles launcher uses only 19 mb but of course it lacks much of functionality
Regarding ram u should not worry about free ram even of u dont use nova and use touch wiz or even if u use default launcher in nexus 4 that is google s launcher u will get ram usage to about same 600-660mb without doing anything
This is because of the way in which android works android believes that free ram is wasted ram so even if u have 200 mb free android would rather fill it up with apps than keep it free bcos more apps in ram = more apps that will open fast when u click them
Now this wouldn't mean u wont be able to run more apps for example when u open an app say that needs 200mb ram android would clear apps from ur lru that j's least recently used list and give u the desired amount of ram that the app needs
But yes on the contrary using a heavy launcher would mean more ram occupied by that launcher that would reduce the no of apps that can be kept in ram at one time...... But it wouldn't anything except multitasking a bit that too only a bit.....
Rest choice is urs
Regardong battery I don't think it would Mae appreciable difference
Just to add a little bit.....and for the benefit of knowledge sharing......it's worth noting that every running process has a priority level assigned to it which dictates how easily it is killed when ram is needed, and obviously things like games will get killed as a priority over essential system processes.
That is all I know
