Battery wont show charge over %91 - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any idea what can cause this? Can it be a battery losing capacity? Something wrong with ROM?
I'm using a Darkside rom and i have wiped battery stats.
Ill post this in the ROM thread as well.

Try turning the phone off, pull battery plug to the charger and wait 30 seconds, reincert the battery and turn on again.

I had 86% problem.
This is what I did and it helped:
1. Install BatteryCalibration (free on the Market)
2. Charge the battery up to it's maximum
3. Use Battery Calibration app
4. Discharge til it dies
5. Charge it and enjoy your 100% full battery.
I'm not sure if steps 1-3 are actually necessary. I've also learnt that even that it showed 86% it was full to maximum capacity. BatteryCalibration app showed that 86% was 4200mV which is maximum for this battery, exactly the same I have now with 100%.

Charge your phone overnight to make sure the battery has met its capacity
Pull battery out while charger is still plugged in to your phone.
Wait for missing battery logo.
Put battery back in. the phone will show that is charging around 5% maybe more. Let it stay there for about and hour then put battery back in and boot up.
Should be at 100%

I just let me phone die. 0% and once it died, i plugged my phone in. It turned on. I turned it off again but the phone automatically turns back on to charge. Let it sit there til 100%

its disturbing how the atrix has this issue with the battery stats.
does any other android phone have this? Atrix is my first

kill it fully, then leave it on charge overnight (with power off).
if it doesnt work, do it again

It's not the atrix, it's the rom. (unless you guys are using the stock rom, in which case I could be wrong) I had this problem with another android phone (moto droid original) because I was a noob and flashed a rom with the battery not at 100% and with the usb cable plugged into the phone and my computer. Don't do that BTW. When you flash a rom always have 99 or 100% charge and dont leave it plugged in while flashing.
On another note, when I went to Mexico for a mission trip for some reason my battery wouldn't charge past 90% or so while I was there. It was strange. No problems when I got back to the states. Strange eh?

Hello All!
I have found fix for the battery problem for EU users (I have EU phone probably will work for ATT as Faux kernel is unified and rom is based on ATT...).
After flashing Darkside rom, you have to boot once your ATRIX.
Then go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1156040
Download one of this kernels: [<{ OLYGB_U4_5.9.1 (ATT, INTL Unified) }>]
[ Overclock Kernel, Max @ 1.3 GHz ]
The CWM File ==> Unified GB Kernel Version 023 @ 1.3 GHz <==
md5sum ==> <==
[ Enhanced Stock Kernel, Max @ 1.0 GHz ]
The CWM File ==> Unified GB Kernel Version 023 @ 1.0 GHz <==
md5sum ==> <==
I do not suggest Kernel 1,45 Ghz as with my tests the battery life was significantly shorter and I had some reboots of my phone.
Flash it with recovery.
It is done. Now you will have to plug your phone to the charger and be happy about 100% battery
After installing new kernel power consumption has been reduced dramatically. In my opinion problem with charging up to 100% was caused by enourmous power consumption. My atrix was hot even on idle and now it is not.

[Q] Battery not at 100% after charging?

So I charge my Galaxy S2 to full (or at least, it says it's full), unplug it, and it says it's only charged to 60%, or 43%, or something random. I plug it back in, and off it goes, starts charging again, this time usually up to the "proper" 100%.
On top of this, the battery drain is very fast (10-15% overnight)
So, believing it's the battery, I get a replacement. Same thing.
I then learn that the reason might be because I flashed Lite'ning ROM while not on full battery, and that it just needs a battery calibration.
Ok, so I do a battery calibration - I charge it to full, drain it to 0%, then charge again. Take it off the charger, plug it back in to make sure it's full and...what do you know, the battery meter shows it at about 20% It continues to charge for about 4-6 hours after this.
Help? Is my phone faulty, or am I just not doing the calibration correct? I don't think it was like this before I installed Lite'ning ROM. So I'm praying it's not the phone itself?
The only other thing I can think that it might be, is the fact that it's a UK Galaxy S2, but I'm using it in Japan with a Japanese charger. Though I don't think that's an issue.
Any help would be very much appreciated.... not only does my battery not charge to full in one go, but it has **** life afterwards

Yeah, that's what I meant by "tried the battery calibration".
Charged to full, wiped battery stats from recovery, then rebooted.
Try using app battery monitor widget, and check battery is actually charging it to around 4200mV, and discharges to around 3500mV at approx 1%.
100% is not full, it will continue charging for quite a bit after to around 4200.
At least you will know that the high and low scale is correct, and can monitor in between.

So I charged it overnight via AC adapter (with the phone turned on), woke up, and the phone was at 4%!
Seriously, what the hell?
Phone was indeed reading close to 3500mV via Battery Monitor when it was almost empty
Any help?
Try charging via usb, much slower than ac though, then check again.
Don't drain battery to 0%, certain reports indicate not good for the battery, others say no worries. Try 1% so the phone doesn't turn off.
Although the huge jumps in battery level indicate a battery issue; If still no good, try a different ROM, and recalibrate. Also try in flight mode overnight and check results.

Thanks for the suggestions man, I appreciate it. My main concern is whether or not it is a problem with the phone itself - the place I bought it from has a ****ty returns policy and won't exchange it or anything. So I'm hoping like hell it is something I can fix myself (new battery, new charger, different rom, etc etc etc).
As I mentioned, I'm currently on the latest Lite'ning ROM with Ninphetamine kernal I believe. Just did a factory reset/data wipe via recovery mode, thinking it would get rid of lite'ning rom and the ninphetamine kernal, but upon rebooting the Lite'ning rom theme (blue lightning on the icons, etc) is still there.
Anyway, I have it charging on USB now, and I have ANOTHER battery coming tomorrow, along with a stand-alone wall charging unit (that charges just a battery on it's own, not connected to the phone). Maybe I should charge the new battery via that for 16 hours, then stick it in the phone, wipe the battery stats via recovery, and flash a new ROM (say, the new villainrom)?
Yeah, forgot about that also, I have two SGS2 (one in for repair), and each time new have let is charge overnight without turning on before first boot. Then discharge to approx 1% (do not let it die), then charge fully to 100% and approx 4200mV. Quickly clear battery stats with Battery Monitor Widget (menu / stats / SU permission, no need for recovery as you'll waste battery rebooting and get inaccurate reading) and immediately disconnect charging. A new batt stats file will be generated.
At least with this method you'll know your at a "true" 100%.
Also, it may take a number of charge cycles for full battery potential, but don't let it die.
I use Cognition straight "out of the box" with no issues.

[Q] My vibrant will never charge ovet 96% on MIUI

Yea, as the title says.
is there a way to fix this ?
THANKS!
I would try re-calibrating your battery. Try this which is straight from my MIUI guide.... (I suggest method 2 as it is the easiest)....
RECONDITION YOUR BATTERY
AFTER FLASHING IF YOU FIND THAT YOU HAVE BAD BATTERY LIFE TRY ONE OF THE METHODS BELOW TO FIX:
Method One:
Use phone till it dies on its own, completely dead.
Charge phone completely, plus 30 minutes longer.
Unplug phone from charger
Reconnect, you'll notice it's not full, charge till it is again.
This is bump charging and NOT something you want to do often, a few times is okay, in my opinion. You could skip the bump charge if you like.
Phone remains plugged in.
Boot into recovery (volumes + power)
Advanced > wipe battery stats, reboot.
Use phone till it's literally about to shut off (or does) Charge till full + Use phone like normal
OR
Method Two:
Download the Battery Calibration app by NeMa from the Android Market

Tell me if this works for you...
A real battery capped to charge at 96% or 97% due to voltage issues that would occur if charged to complete 100%. But samsungs stock ROMS and most other ROMS are customized to display this 100% when its really not at that level. Since MIUI is based off of CM7(and this is uncredited of course), it is not modified in any way and it displays the actual battery life. Which in your case is 96%. Hope this helps.

Reboot battery % drop and voice call drain!

Can anyone tell me why my phone is draining nearly 1% charge per 90seconds of voice call? That means 30minutes of call would drop battery nearly 17-20%:-((((
Another problem I'm recent facing is that if I reboot the phone it drops about 30-40% of battery! I'm using a cheap dock charger(with extra batteries) I bought from ebay. My original charger cable is broken(shame on Samsung low class charge and headphones, even cheapest Android phones come with higher class accessories). Is it possible that this can damage my battery? BTW I'm using Senstyle rom by Dynamic and the default Siyah kernel and modem.

Calibrate your battery.
1) Switch off your phone
2) Charge it till it shows 100%
3) As soon as it reaches 100% remove cable and battery.
4) Let the battery rest for about 2 mins
5) Put it back and power on.
6) If it shows anything less than 100% repeat the procedure.
If that does not work, most likely your battery is borked up. Try with a spare battery
and please use original accessories as much as possible.Third party chargers might not provide the enough power to recharge the battery.
Also flash XXKI4 modem, I've got best battery life with that modem.

With speedmod battery life is great but the reboot battery drop still exist. Strange thing is that after reboot battery % starts to increase automatically. About half an hour ago I rebooted the phone. Before reboot battery was 54% and after reboot it straight away dropped to 13%. Now after little usage I've 22%. I'll try to recalibrate the battery again. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

[Q] Can't charge beyond X%. (Yes, I've searched!)(Yes, I saw Dianne Hackborn's post!)

Hopefully I can state this in a way that doesn't scream "I don't know how to use teh search!"
I calibrated my battery stats using the free app on the market after flashing darkside. My phone used to charge to 100% on the indicator (4200+ mV). Now, a couple of weeks later, it charges to the same 4200-and-up charge but the meter tops out at 92%. Two days ago, it was topping out at 94%.
I've re-calibrated using the app, draining it down and charging fully up. Same result, 92% max.
I've wiped battery stats using CWM immediately after charging fully (verifying the charge is above 4200 mV). Rebooted. Still at 92%. Actually, now it's reporting 90% with 4128 mV.
so if wiping stats is a "useless operation", what gives? How is it possible that this method apparently fixed other users' miscalibrated battery meters stuck down around 30-40%?
Try this:
1. Charge as much as it will charge
2. Turn it off and take out the battery
3. While the battery is still out, plug it in and wait for it to show the battery image with the question mark
4. Put the battery back in (do not turn on yet) and let it charge for an hour
5. After an hour, turn it on, unplug, and report back
Note: On step #4 when you put the battery back in it will probably only show like 5% or 10%, just ignore that and let it charge

in cm7, charges to 98% normally, but sometimes takes hours to reach 100%.
I hope i'm not hijacking this thread, but since we are talking about mV i thought this might be a good place to ask....
I've been having problems with my battery levels for a while, i've tried all the voodoo to try and fix it but i can't get anything consistent.
here is what i get....
i have battery calibration app installed, sometimes it will read 4200mV and be 20% charged. Other times it will read 100% charged at 3700mV, it's all over the place, and trying all the suggestions to fix the battery life don't seem to fix it.
another thing i have is it will discharge from 100% to 5% within an hour but my mV will be at 3900+, then it will sit at 5% for another 8+ hours then the phone shuts off, so i plug it in and it says 5%, i let it charge for a minute or two and it's at 20%, i turn it on and it shows that it's above 3700 or 3800mV.
so the phone thinks it needs 3700+ mV to run, but not always, sometimes it will go down below 3600mV and still run
A couple questions
1. can someone post their mV reading at 5%, i'm guessing it should be about 3300
2. what is the max mV that you have....is it above 4200mV (mine never is)
FYI information i've tried fastboot -w, cwm battery wipe, deleting the battery stats file manually, even formatted /system and other file systems to make sure it was fresh

Ok,
I did this and my battery starts off at 100% and all appears to be fine. The next time I charge, it only shows 83% and it is reading 4200mV which should be a full charge. Do I have to do this each time? Is there any other solution? I am running CM7 stable and the battery is an aftermarket one. Could this be the issue? Thanks in advance all.

One trick I've found is unplugging the micro-USB and plugging it back in immediately. When I do this the 4200mV usually drops to the low 4100 range and the % continues to increase.
Only caveat is you'll have to keep doing this until it reaches 100. It takes a while since it seems to get re-stuck at every 1-2% intereval. A pain, but it's a work around from having to pull the battery. :silly:
I have the same issue too but DO I ALWAYS HAVE TO DO THIS METHODS? My battery level drops day by day (becomes %92 max) from %100.
I'd had the issues you explain for AGES.
I'd heard that buying a new battery wouldn't help. But I bought a new, official battery off eBay and I've not had the issue since. That was a couple of months ago now... not saying it will definitely work but at worst you have a spare battery...

Battery drain issue

After flashing darkyrom, I messed up my battery stats (I think) by calibrating it everytime I fully charged my phne. I know I what I did is stupid not reading infos about it. But just to ask, if flashing to stock firmware will fix the battery drain. Everytime i full charge to 100% and rebooted the phone, I get 22% and figured that android OS is consuming 75% of my battery. I'm pretty hesistant flashing it because of battery drain that might turn off the phone during flashing. It has no warrant already so I cannot bring it to samsung. So is it safe to flash the phone?
Just plug your phone in your computer or wall to make sure the battery doesn't die.
Drain batt completly and then charge via pc usb untill full, unplug drain and charge via pc usb again. Pc usb has 500 miliamps, so will charge slower but will have a more full charge.

Your right, your phone doesnt charge while in recovery or while flashing. If you have clock work mod recovery then charge your phone via pc to full, then reboot to clockwork and select wipe battery stats. Reboot your phone and use untill it is 10% then do a pc charge untill full. No need to flash now, try my way first.

Will this get rid off the high android OS/cpu usage? I want to flash it to stock ICS btw.
I think so, i dont think it is your android taking all the power, I dont know much about android and kernels and stuff, but i know allot about batteries since i am an rc driver and flyer. Your ac charger has to much current so the phone reads top voltage for a few minuts and assumes that the battery is full, when in actual fact only about 400 miliamps went into the battery and the battery capacity is around 1500 miliamp. Now if you charge at lower amp level the voltage wont go to the top right away. You should be able to get a full charge after about 4 charging sessions. I would not suggest trying to flash now with your weak battery.

I messed up with the battery calibrator I calibrate everytime i fully charged my phone so maybe this is the cause. I will try your suggestion and see if it works. Thank you for your help.
The battety calibration tool is supposed to wipe your battery stats like clockwork does, maybe the app has some issue and is not wiping the stats completely. Use clockwork recovery to wipe the stats once the battery is fully charged. Then again only when you flash a new rom or put new battery.

It sometimes happens.. Did u charge from <20% or greater than that?? Becoz sometimes the battery shows fake stats.. The best way to calibrate is LEAVE the battery to calibrate itself for a week times. It needs a cycles of charge and discharge to get the correct value..
And the battery usage is not changing already. Been 4d 36mns 24 secs for a week. I wanna flash a stock rom but afraid battery will drain during flashing. *sigh*
Get a wall charger to charge the battery, check that the battery is not damaged ................................ . regards
It may be possible that you have a dead cell. Charge the bat to full, remove bat and use multimeter to test the bat, should read about 4volts. Leave the battery one side for about 1.5 hours, then test the voltage again. If less then 3.7 then you have a dead cell and will have to get new battery.

What multimeter? Got no idea what it is. Is that an app?
No its not an app. Its a tester that an electician would use to test voltage. Go to android market and download Battery info. That is an app that will also tell the voltage. Currently my bat is at 62% and 3.8volts. Download the app and let me know what the reading are.

What about this part 'leave the battery one side for 1.5h' you mean detach the battery of phone for 1.5? And what if I got 4below volts, that means my battery is okay and its the battery stats messing up?
Find an electrical tester, most car parts shops have the cheap ons (they do the job)
Full charge battery and remove battery from phone. On the battery there should be 3 copperplates, find the two with + and -. Test voltage on these points with tester set to dc volts. Leave your battery out of the phone for 60minuts and then test again. Let me know what the results are.
Sent from my Sensation Z710e
Fully charged battery should be 4volts for about 30 minuts and then start dropping to about 3.7. If less then 3.7volts your battery is faulty. Any voltage between 3.7 and 4.0 volts after one hour is 100% fine.
