I was wondering if it's possible with cm9 that there might be a way to get on the go cable support for USB flash drives. That would be amazing.

Searching inside in xda forum i find that USB OTG cable working in SGS II....
Anyone knows maybe we can have one of this working in our phone ????
It will be very helpfull for my daily work....
link with video....

There are a couple of things needed for this to work. The hardware of the phone needs to support acting as an usb host and driver module in the kernel needs to support that hardware mode as well. I was looking around for this too a while back, and I think I remember finding, that the kernel module had no support for the host mode, but I am not sure I am right. At the very least I think it will require a custom kernel, with some modules built, that I do not believe are in any of the custom ones here.
Kind regards
Martin

Thats just not posible, the hardware doesnt support it.
i had requested some devs to look into usb-host thing...
its kernel related and can be worked out but will need time...
hopefully you'll make it work!
That's the only thing which is better on my nokia c7
I saw somewhere that someone got usb host working with the x10, but you needed a powered usb hub for it to work, as the x10 doesn't power its usb port. I can't remember the thread though.

This will be very nice!
Sweet, that will be revolutionary

I'm also very interested on knowing this.. If not now, maybe in the future with S-off and some trickier roms?

What's wrong with the rest of the keys on your keyboard?
I'm removing your posts. That's four I just deleted.
I know it has to be built in to the kernel. And seeing as we currently only have one person doing kernel work, and doing it blind, it may be a while. But I would love to see that ability as well.

So Im about to order nexus7, but the storage capacity bothers me a bit. Would it be possible to use this cable for example: (it doesnt let me post a link but... search "SANOXY USB 2.0 Female to Micro USB Male OTG(On-The-Go) Cable Adapter" on AMAZON.com)
to plug my usb flash drive into nexus7 or any other android device with micro usb. Would it work? is there any file explorer that could detect that drive and work with it normaly?
I think it would be a perfect solution for that limited storage.

Yes it will work. Its called USB OTG. You will however need to be rooted and install an app from the market (can't remember what its called). There's a really good guide on it in the nexus 7 section.

Why post a reply when you know nothing on the subject? Or even be bothered to research about it? Don't mislead people in the future.

Yeah not all devices support the feature that's why you have to root the nexus. If it didn't work at all what would be the reason for the USB to micro USB wire? Anyways I hear what your saying

I know otg and mhl work too, it's the charging capability of the cables while doing it that I'm asking about.

I believe its going to take a kernel developer merging that ability into a kernel if it's possible hardware wise. I'd ask the kernel developers if they personally use OTG or if they have any interest in developing that ability in the future. If you get a maybe then you'll know that its possible down the road, and if you get a hell no, then you'll know not to get your hopes up.
Be sure they know that you aren't telling them to do it or asking in a "whats taking so long" kind of way.
Faux incorporated that ability into the Nexus 7, I don't know that it's his commit though he might have just used another devs feature, but it was his thread where I read about it, that information might give ya something to start researching. I am going to be checking into this also, it was already on my list of crap to do, but there's so much crap everywhere and not nearly enough to doing on my part, so I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Out of curiosity, can you run dmesg -c to clear the buffer, plug the cable into a power source and then grab the dmesg output on the off chance it says something useful?

I have no idea. In term emulator? How do I get the dmesg after?
Edit: got it cleared now to figure out how to save it.
