Boost mobile on Sprint talk and surf while in call? - HTC EVO 3D

Can this be done? I haven't seen a thread on the topic yet. If so how can it be done.

That is a gsm phone capability, Evo3D is CDMA, the only way you can talk and surf is with wifi turned on and connected

Or connect in 4G. That's how I do it 4g+call
Sent From My 3rd Dimension

You all are correct. You cannot use voice and data at the same time. The reason GSM phones can do this is because data and voice are done on separate radios. Just like with Sprint (or any other cdma carrier) you can use LTE/WiMax simutaneously with voice, or WiFi becuase they utilize different radios. GSM phones have one radio for data and one for voice. If CDMA phones did this with voice and EVDO it would be possible as well. I do not know why GSM uses two radios and CDMA likes only one (except where LTE/WiMax are concerned).

Thanks to all that answered my question.....

Simultaneous talk and surf?

What happened to the 3vo being able to talk and surf at the same time as many reports had stated prior to the release of the 3vo? Is this something to be added later or a never gonna happen type of thing?

It works just fine, but only if your data connection is either via wifi or 4G.
Yes I know that same as the EVO but i meant over 3g not 4g or WiFi

Sprint has to enable svdo on their network. The 3d and the EVO shift have the chip set. They are just not activated.

I hope they it asap... It would be very handy and good marketing against verizon too.

would be better marketing against at&t really, since they are the only one with bragging rights at the moment to be able to do this, not even verizon can at the moment.
Actually the Verizon Thunderbolt can do it currently. Its been something that has been making me think about jumping ship, though at those prices, I should buy a flip phone for when my Evo is online...
The thunderbolt can only do it on LTE and the phone has no toggle to turn LTE off unless its rooted

No the Verizon TB can do it over cdma without being in LTE area. Not all VZ areas support it yet but the phone deff can do it.

Don't think so. the way sprint is doing their voice+data will require a certain chipset on the phones that supports SVDO, which last I checked is NOT in the EVO3D nor the shift. The MDM9600 is the only one ive seen and confirmed to have this built in.
Also a lil note for people that are interested This post lays out some things for the future in sprint and are pretty reliable sources for those that do not know them.

Well people, after reading this thread I just had to put in my 2 cents about it. I live in a 3G area of upstate New York with NO 4G around me and can talk and surf on my Thunderbolt. That was the only reason I dropped the call dropping iPhone with at&t and swithed. I drive a truck "18 wheeler" and everywhere I have gone in the New England area that doesn't have 4G I have been able to do this.

No he's most definitely wrong. The Thunderbolt can do simultaneous voice and data on 3g in svdo enabled areas.
Talk and Surf on EVO and EVO 3D
The solution is not at all elegant and drain the battery pretty quickly.
What else is new here?
In any event, be it in 3G or 4G (irrelevant for 4G I guess):
1) activate the built-in hotspot (password protect it to prevent others taking
advantage of FREE Wifi draining your battery faster than Concord)
2) Activate the phone Wifi and connect to the newly created Wifi in Step 1
At this point, you should be able to talk and surf; an added bonus (already available thru the hotspot feature), is you're able to connect other devices to the Hotspot connection created in Step 1.
The new problem you will have now is to find yourself a lasting battery.

Please post gsm 3g speeds

Am thinking of changing from cdma to gsm. Currently on the sprint network and their 3G has went to ........ I used to get 2mb downloads to around 250kb. What good is unlimited data if its dog slow. Is GSM 3G any better?

technically, the speed doesn't depend on network type, it should be the same on both GSM and CDMA. It depends on your cell provider limits.
Ok. Well people with GSM network providers .. what are your 3G speeds?

im on tmobile USA. in MA, i hit around 4.8mb and in NY, its 7.6mb down.
"3G" gsm AT&T or T-Mobile is WCDMA (HSPA+ capable of up to 21mbps theroetical) Verizon and Sprint "3G" is EVDO (Theroretical up to 3mbps) you have to look at the phones radio capabilities and the network. Technically the 3G tech that GSM uses is faster than the 3G tech CDMA uses.
The phones... UGH... It depends on the service you have, your location, and how far you are from the tower... The phone dosent... Just.. Stupid ass question... Really just.. You're stupid end of story.

Htc rezound on boost mobile

Wondering if anyone has confirmed this phone on Boost mobile, would love to use it at a cheaper plan then Verizon.

Doubt it would work.
I'm pretty sure you can't flash a phone with a sim card to another provider. Atleast not with pageplus here.
Sent from the lab of Dr.Sadistic
The SIM is just for LTE though. Not too sure how that would limit the CDMA part from working. The OG Inc was able to go onto boost. There's a thread about it in the Inc general forum.
Not saying it would work, just wondering what would inhibit it from working.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA Premium.
You can flash it and it would work just fine on any CDMA network.
You need to take it to someone that knows how to reprogram it by writing the NVs.
Once you do that you won't need the LTE sim card.
Its real simple. Trust me.

I thought the EVO used gsm radio for the 4G LTE.. I read somewhere that the phone has an embedded sim card for gsm radio.. That's y I seen the gsm radio frequency on the menu *#*#4636#*#* and if that's the case we shouldn't have this problem... Maybe I miss understood but ill look for the article..

Whatever you read or think is 100% wrong. The Evo is on Sprint's network which is CDMA. While there may be some GSM elements reported in the phone, it is indeed a CDMA phone. Completely different networks, as any google search would show you.

Sprint LTE does not use GSM.
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_evo_4g_lte-4665.php
Google search for Evo 4g lte network specs:
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=htc+evo+4g+lte+network+specs
LTE is a variant of utms/gsm. The phone itself is not gsm, there is no way to use the phone on gsm networks. You can't even use LTE on other networks because they all have their own frequencies and differences in their networks

Thank u sir... Somebody that actually answers the question instead of insulting... So with it using a variant of utms/gsm the radios are still different I'm guessing? The only thing I don't understand is I thought the radio was built with the qualcomm chip so if the phones had the same chip then the radio would be similar? Sorry if I'm wrong just trying to grasp an understanding...
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
Similar board design with a soc but its a modular design that allows for custom built hardware. You can have 3 OEMs with 5 different phones each with the same Qualcomm board and soc and they could all be built specifically for one carrier only. GSM is the standard, CDMA is more prevalent in the US.

From what I recall most phones radios are no longer EVDO based so SVDO for 3g and 1x voice is irrelevant. It is hardware based but believe it does not appear on many if any devices any more.
