im using windows 7 it keeps on telling me that i need usb drivers. When i go to the samesung website to download the kies for windows 7 pack w/drivers, it sais that they are not the right ones, it sais that they are not the right drivers
There are a bunch of driver links actually posted here in these forums. Use the search for AIO toolbox I think - there was a link for drivers there.
Samsung drivers should work fine??
are u using kies or kies mini
the regular kies is for European phones
the tmobile vibrant needs kies mini
i have windows 7 too and once i installed kies mini my drivers were fine
Kies Mini Download; http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c...24222256530/Kies_Mini_For_Vibrant_11011_4.exe
Download, install, and you should be good. Since like the above poster said, you may not be using the appropriate Kies version...

No no kies stop dont!!!!!!
REPEAT REPEAT DONT USE KIES, YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE!!!!!!
IM DEAD SERIOUS, MANY A VIBRANT HAVE BEEN BRICKED USING KIES UPGRADE INCLUDING MY FIRST VIBRANT!!!!
JUST DONT DO IT, VERY VERY DANGEROUS!!
^ He (the OP) only wants to install Kies to obtain working drivers, not to upgrade with it. At least I'm pretty sure that's what he meant.

That doesnt make much sence.
You can find the windows drivers right here in the stickies or just look around alittle bit in the developement tab and you will find them.
Edit:Lol i just went to the stickies in dev. And the drivers jumped right out at me in about 2 seconds after i posted this....and you can thank bay_wolf for that
I hear ya.
Also I am not sure why so many people don't use the Toolbox. I mean it has Odin, the Pit/Tar files, the drivers, even simple read along instructions. Whe i first came here, that was what so many suggested and now it seems like a forgotten, albeit still extremely useful, relic.
Shortbus, I even think you were one of the ones who told me to use it.
Dont ever use kies. It was made by kindergarden programmers. Worst program ive ever used.

Make sure you have your usb settings in the phone to Kies or to ask when you plug in. If you are running any launcher other then touch wiz, Kies will not recognize the device. So if you are running a different launcher, clear its defaults and go to the touchwiz home and then plug the USB in.
You probably downloaded the Kies for the I9000, it doesnt work on TMO Vibrant. There is no Kies for USA available for that model yet. Someone suggested to download the Kies from the Canadian Samsung site instead. I believe that Kies for USA will be made available when Froyo is released for the Vibrant.
I downloaded Kies for the USA yesterday and my Vibrant connects fine.

Where did you find this? On the Samsung site just now I get this message when looking for Kies on the US site:
Currently, there is no offiical version of Kies Stateside for the SGH-t959 (Vibrant).
I think he used the UK, or Canadian version but when you install it you select USA.
I used the Kies found @ http://www.samsungapps.com/about/onPc.as posted by abhiku in a similar thread. Works perfectly on win 7 64
Could you be more specific? That link redirects to http://www.samsung.com/apps/ which doesn't help much.
oh shiii, looks like they pulled the version i dl/d. thankfully, i store installers of this nature on a backup drive. uploaded to sharebee for ya: http://sharebee.com/8cf24208
Thanks, but that didn't solve the MPT USB driver failing.
what exactly is happening? like when you plug it in is it just saying "failed to install device" or is the pc recognizing it for usb mass storage, but nothing else. Some more details would be very helpful.
I have the home screen on TouchWiz
I plug the phone into the USB port
Several drivers install properly
I get the MTP screen on the phone for a few seconds and then it returns to the home screen. A dialog box on the computer says:
Device driver software was not successfully installed
MTP USB Device XFailed
I have tried 3 versions of Kies and 3 different USB drivers
I tried the I9000 version of kies... I could not figure out how to make it work with the Vibrant.
I dont use Outlook... what are the real benefits? I saw it an sync your music? Is there a basic guide/Q&A for Kies somewhere?
I tried to make it work on a rooted phone and it just fails.
First it wanted me to disable USB debugging, and when I did it failed to connect anyway - the software is a piece of rubbish.
Anyway Samsung states in their FAQ that Vibrant is not supported yet
http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa..._ID=314807&PROD_ID=560&PG_ID=-1&PROD_SUB_ID=0
the screen on the phone just flases the mtp showing a usb plug
The version of Kies that I successfully connected the Vibrant to is 1.5.1.10074_2.
Windows did all of the driver downloading for me lol. Here is a screenshot of the SGH-T959 connected.

I get the same. This software is junk. And what I saw of the interface makes it look like it was written in the 90s.
From what I am seeing on the international side, it may be that Froyo is installed using it so I was hoping to get things working in anticipation of that. Plus, it has a movie converter so its pretty simple to convert movies to the right format.
I've have to US T-Mo Vibrant, and never received an OTA update. Any way to force update. I can't get Kies Mini to recognize my phone. Even after USB debugging. Ideas? Still running JFD in both.
Have you tried manually installing the USB drivers and using Odin?

Make sure that you have the correct drivers installed and yes you can force the update manually by using ODIN.
Let me know if you need help finding the drivers. or updating the rom.
Kies only works with stock launcher .if your using a custom launcher it wont work..

Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
There is a few post in development that contain the "official" T-Mo update. As far as Kies goes, my educated guess is you do not have the Samsung drivers installed. Also in the Development section is the "bible" that is pretty curent, it's basically has all the info you will need. Ji6 update, Odin, instructions, proper drivers ect... a MUST read for all newcomers IMHO.

I was on the same boat as you. Never got an OTA update. Contacted tmobile online and said to use my sim card in a different phone and make like a 2-3 min call. After that, put it back in your Vibrant and should notify you in 24-48 hrs. That didn't work so I spoke to a different rep and sent me to a Kies site (even though the first rep said it wasn't recommended). I just used Kies Mini.
What step are you stuck at? I got it working through Kies Mini, but it took a lot of trial and error. Did you take out your micro sdcard before plugging in? Read the small print at bottom of the Kies Mini Guide if your phone doesn't recognize on your pc.
Hello all,
My co-worker attempted to flash a rom onto his Vibrant today and the problem he is having is that it boots the Samsung and Vibrant logos and the lcd has crazy lines and also makes squeaky sounds. I read up on Odin3 v1.00/TAR/PIT files and here is the problem that I am encountering.
I installed the drivers (32 bit on the desktop XP)
Odin it running with TAR and PIT files selected and ready to go.
I first plugged the USB into the desktop and phone while the battery is removed, and then hold the volume buttons. Once the battery is inserted I instantly get the "Downloading" mode with the digging Android.
Now XP first was installing the drivers as it should, then it has the phone as a unknown device. So Odin can't recognize the COM to flash the phone.
What are the options in this scenario?
Thank you.
Make sure to run odin as an admin (right click>run as admin) if you're using xp. It wouldn't work for me unless I did that.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
I ran as admin. Odin isn't the problem the problem is the phone/windows not recognized the usb even though drivers are installed
Try the program in the development section.
How is another program going to solve windows not recognizing the damn phone?

yes this and get Odin 1.7 or higher 1.0 and 1.3 have compatibility problems
Follow the info in the Noob post in the Gen Section by S15274N
Or you can do a search on how to do on youtube there are some very good Videos that will help you.......
Good Luck
you need to download the All In One Toolbox (AIO toolbox) in the Development section and install the drivers that come in that program..its actually a button on the program UI that says "install drivers" the drivers found by windows automatically aren't the ones needed by Odin. That program actually walks you through Odin.
::thanks?::
After installing AIO same issues, prior to download mode it recognizes the phone and then as soon as I reboot into downloading mod it can't recognize the USB.
Any other ideas?

What ROM is your co-worker coming from? If it was CM7 or one of the 2.3.3 Roms, then you will need the Nexus S drivers installed on the pc for Odin to recognize the phone in DL mode.
There is the toolbox

you're using the wrong drivers
Yep that'll do it. Grab the Nexus S drivers from their forums, and you should be able to flash odin.

As in the nexus one drivers?
Sorry for being such a noob, this samsung isn't as easy as my cm7 mt3gs
No, not nexus one, the nexus s, different model. There's a nexus s forum here at xda. The drivers are in their dev section. I'd link you to it, but I'm on my phone, and its a p.i.t.a. from the phone.

Whenever you have the chance can you link me the drivers? I've been looking high and low and most drivers I found need the phone to be in fastboot which is nice and all but can't install a driver on a unknown device.
Let me correct my previous statement, its been a little while since I flashed a 2.3 rom, but I am fairly certain the driver files you need are part of the android 2.3 sdk. If you don't have it, you'll have to dl it, unless someone can post them for you. I won't be at a pc until tomorrow at the earliest.

So I downloaded the 2.3SDK tools and when its at the green battery charging all is well but as soon as downloading mode gets put on its an unknown device

Is it just me or is Kies the absolute worst phone connectivity software in existence?
I have been trying to do the firmware updates via Kies since they were released but keep getting the same error message (DLL Load Fail). I have tried the update on 2 PCs - 1 running Vista and the other running XP. I don't have access to a Windows 7 PC to try it.
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the SGS2 and apart from the occasional random reboot, I don't have any complaints. I would just like to be able to apply the firmware updates!
I've read a few solutions on another thread about using Odin, but I'm new to Samsung phones and a bit wary about Odin. Though I did a lot of rooting and custom ROM installs on my old HTC Desire so I'm no stranger to messing about with android hardware via unofficial means...I just don't want to be unofficially messing too much with my SGS2 since it's less than 3 weeks old.
Does anyone have a non-Odin solution to the crappy Kies DLL Load Fail problem?
NOTE TO ADMINS: Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place, please feel free to move it if necessary.
I had the same problem (DLL Load Failure after firmware download) on two of my computers (Windows 7 SP1 x64) as well. After a few tries (including computer restarts and Kies reinstallation), the problem spontaneously went away - without any preceding configuration change I can remember.
If you continue to have firmware update problems and don't want to resort to ODIN you could try if a firmware update via Kies Wi-Fi (Home Screen -> Settings -> Wireless and network -> Kies via Wi-Fi) is possible.
In general, I do agree - Kies is the worst. It is really puzzling why Samsung Android phones can't just update via cell network/wifi like HTC devices (or even the Samsung Nexus S).

The answer is ODIN.
Seriously, just read it, read the SGS 1 forums etc... ODIN is what samsung use internally
I know this does not help you, but really, ODIN in 100 times more reliable and safer than Kies to update firmware. There are picture guides available right here on XDA.
also try running Kies update when you are freshly booted the phone in Airplane mode. Do not kill any tasks by ATK or in built Ram cleaner. Just boot > airplane mode> plug in and give it a try.
I have windows 7 and KIES is just soo slow, not tried updating firmware as have no issues with phone
(and not sure what improvements are included)
I have 2 computers and can only do certain things with either. One runs 7 64bit the other 7 32bit. One will work with Kies perfectly fine, and will run ODIN as well, but ADB is a complete no go.
The other will do ADB and Kies via Wifi, but nothing else.
Driver installation is the problem. One machine refuses to find drivers for SAMSUNG_Android and CDC_serial.
Works perfect for Me every time :-\. But odin works great too so to prevent any issues its prob best to use odin especially with all good support from xda

Lol this is exactly what I mean. People never doubt their devices. Oh kies doesn't work for me. There must be something wrong with Samsung and their crappy software. Oh no odin doesn't work either there must be something wrong woth odin too now. Kies and Odin work fine stop saying they don't. If it doesn't work the problem is on your end. And i am certainly not the only one with the Kies failure messages that seem to be rife.
Thanks for not even helping suggest what COULD be wrong on my side, which is exactly what i'm trying to find out. Troll

These are the ones kies v2 put in the driver folder. Its a exe that installs the drivers... at least it did for me
when i had a nexus s i was having driver issues too. i read a comment on androidcentral.com suggesting that by downloading and installing pdanet (http://pdanet.en.softonic.com/) the appropriate drivers would be installed. once i got it working i deleted the app and the drivers worked great
thank you very much for all of you.
