Anyone know when this will be released? Asus announced it months ago but I have yet to see anything.
Basically it's a small adapter that gives you a USB port without using the dock.
Vapor. Imaginary. Non-existent.
Some suggest ASUS refuses to sell it because it might put off dock sales.
In two weeks I will give up waiting.

Certainly, not with me.
We should all start emailing them. If the next tablet has the same connector, we're bound to see it soonernor later.

i've been waiting for this for ages too !
the lack of accessories is extremely poor - i hate being jealous of all the ipad2 accessories that are available. :-(

Get used to the lack of accessories. The biggest problem with Android is we will never have the variety of accessories that you can get with apple products because we don't have standard ports and locations on Android products even from the same manufacturer. This is my biggest gripe with Android.
For example, my Nexus One has a great car dock and desktop dock but guess what? You can only use it with the Nexus One and no other HTC phone. This seems to be the way for every Android product, only proprietary accessories that don't work with anything else.

Just wondering , but do docks and cases and stuff for the iphone and ipad work with previous/newer versions? I wasn't aware they did
According to ExcaliberPC, it should be released around 8/17.

Cases no, docks yes. Take a look at any generic iPad dock. Like this one:
http://www.brookstone.com/idesign-p...atId=L3_iPodDocks|L2_iPodMedia|L1_Electronics
...and look at the compatibility list.
I'm not trying to give apple credit for anything, I personally can't stand them. But, I do see why third parties aren't jumping to make android accessories, such as docks. You make one for apple, it is automatically compatible with a variety of product. You make one for android, you're making it for one device or you have to make multiple versions to accommodate multiple devices.

Realistically though, just about every android phone uses micro usb. It wouldn't be hard for someone to make a somewhat universal dock. Maybe we should start requesting it.

I completely agree. I really don't understand why there aren't micro usb docks out there. Make it just like the friggin apple one, but slap a micro usb on it instead.
....unfortunately wouldn't help us with out transformers. Damn proprietary connectors!
This is a big let down.
im not paying a $150 dock for a USB slot...
get your act together Asus. Want to compete with Apple?.. Then wake the F up.
Make your product more appealing to developers, buyers.
Samsung's adaptor is $20 right? And its been out i believe.
I second that, would it kill em to add one full or even a micro usb slot to the next model so people don't have to buy the dock! I guess that is the only real advantage of the Iconica over the TF, but the TF is still king in my book.
If micro then we could buy one of these, but I would prefer a full usb port though.

This may be a stupid question, but has anyone tried a male/female USB cable with the charging cable and a flash drive? It wouldn't surprise me if it worked. Wouldn't surprise me if it didn't either.

Using a female/female adapter works for some devices. There's a list around here somewhere of tested devices. The main factor is probably the device's power consumption, as with most portable devices that have host mode.

Didn't it occur to you that asus could have purposely delayed the manufacture/sale of the usb adapter in order to entice/force people to buy the keyboard dock?

I know the dock is a marketing ploy of ASUS " is just business " but they are acting like Apple now!
Yes, I too wish we could trasform..no pun..the micro sd slot into a usb port but I don't think they make an app/adapter for that
I wanted to hear from the users what their experience has been with Lapdocks and/or webtop. Id like to know what and how you are using your lapdock. and to those that are using webtop over hdmi or the docking station, what things have improved your productivity at work and home.
Im trying to weight the pros and cons. of course the cons are always that little thing called $$$. not sure how i would utilize these products and want to know how the current users are.
is it just the "i can do this with my phone" or have they made youre life better?
and to give you an idea, my workstation consists of a HP EliteBook thats never open and directly connected to my 32inch LCD. so im also thinking about the idea of doing a KVM switch and have the ability to toggle between the two at the office. This would leave my desk clean and simple. BUT, that doesnt do anything for me at home and travels (but then again i have a laptop, so i dont see where the need would be) and a HDMI KVM switch is not a cheap solution either.
Thoughts?

Im using the docking station and it has been great for me I find myself hardly using my laptop anymore which is also hooked up to my flat screen
as far as the web browsing goes its not as fast as the laptop but I have the wireless keyboard also and it makes a huge comfort difference, there is about a 1 to 2 second delay for me when I click a link for the page to load completely,, honestly I say give it a try and if you dont like it just return it,,, but I think you would really like the wireless keyboard it literally replaced my laptop I can do all my work from my phone now, its great,,
Using the HD dock with a portable wireless keyboard/mouse. Even though I wish it would do more it does make the phone more functional. Think it all depends on what type of apps you need to use. It makes it very nice when traveling to take the place of a laptop but in the office there are just too many Windows apps I need that won't run on my phone.
If I traveled more I know it would be a very nice feature to have.
I use my Lapdock daily for just about everything. I have found most useful replacements and with Logme In I can control all my PC's or Servers.
I also use the HD Dock which is connected to a 32 inch TV.
I like the device and all it offers.

Really hoping to have this setup on my sg2 when its released. Basicly you dock your phone to a monitor, KB, mouse, speakers, etc.. then you boot up Ubuntu on your phone. Only for dual core phones. Allows you to do all your computing as well as phone calls, SMS, mms, etc. Can use your 4g or wifi. Can't wait.
Here is the official site for all the info. http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/android

Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
This looks really promising. Hopefully it turns out better than the system that was attempted for the atrix.

Well, hmm, how would the dock work now... Is it for phones that already have a docking capability like the Atrix that now will have an Ubuntu alternative, or; will Samsung and other manufacturers make these docks so that their users can dock and use Ubuntu, or; will Ubuntu make a somewhat universal dock using the microUSB for example, which then spreads out into mice/keyboard/display. Overall, I'm just trying to see whether or not we're going to be included.

initially at least it didn't seem like this is going to come for us, right now it looks like the work they've done with the Atrix is mostly just to change webtop application that it normally runs with and I think I saw that it was only for devices with micro USB and hdmi output
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
Yeah, the HDMI thing lost my hope a bit, but I think our phones do have a way to output via HDMI, or at least, my point is, a dock could be made to support the GS2 if someone were to make it. But yeah, the line:
Easy to integrate with existing Android phones in development

Confuses me as it sounds like it can be easily integrable, but at the same time, I just really don't know. We'll see what happens, I guess...
The SGH-I777 does have an MHL port, just like the GT-I9100 and the Infuse - it just, for whatever reason, didn't come with an adapter in the box like the Infuse did.
So if we can output to a TV/Monitor via HDMI and MHL we could use the slick web top type application?
I wonder if this will be downloaded-able as an "App" or will need to be more built in to the framework/rom itself (seems more likely). Very exciting though, to have desktop capabilities on a phone would be awesome.
Plus the exynos running on our phone would be much smoother than the Tegra 2 running on the Atrix.
any news? when will be this ubuntu solution available?
Give that this is from Feb, think its safe to say no news. Lets try to avoid necro-bumping threads like this...
I want a tablet but not sure how much use it'll get. Will the prime play xvid & avi files? Does it have HDMI out of the box or requires a dongle? Compared with what's about at moment and what's coming out this qtr the prime looks best of them. I have never used apple products but understand ipads are limited to playing iTunes stuff? Or for same money as prime should I get a i5 blu ray playing laptop? Thanks if you can help.

The answer is yes. It is easily the fastest, thinnest, tablet on the market right now. For it's price it is very affordable and ICS makes the tablet experience better.
Keep in mind it's not perfect, there's a force close here - a random reboot there. A vocal minority have had wifi & gps issues. My wifi is fine, my gps appears to work (although I barely use it enough to testify). Battery life is average considering the speed/preformance the tablet has.
The keyboard dock is the selling point over every other tablet out there right now. USB, additional battery life, full sized sd (don't forget the microsd on the tablet), and a decently sized chiclet keyboard that I'm typing this very message on.
HDMI works out of the box, assuming you have the appropriate cables to connect to it. Keep in mind it's mini hdmi. Most video formats are supported (no wmv), the dice player app plays them quite well.
No buyer's remourse here, I'm very proud of to own this tablet. Ipads do require everything to be installed through itunes, and you may have to purchase different copies of apps for many iphone apps you bought if you want them on the ipad. Android gives you the app for all your devices with a singe purchase and you have 15 minutes to request a refund if there are any initial problems. Transfering files is as simple as droping them on a flash drive, and box/dropbox work just as well as icloud. Also 3rd party apps can be installed through checking an option in the settings menu - no need to jailbreak.
YES..next question..lol
t3rm3y - is the prime the best tablet?
TFP fanboi - Hell yah it is the best tablet
Plays anything you throw at it and has HDMI out. Keyboard dock is a must imo, if you want to get its full potential.
if my opinion is taken into consideration...which it always is (im kinda full of myself ATM)
YES it is the best tablet on the market right now
Yes among Android tablets so far.

Sweet Evo!!
I have had so many issues with my Transformer Prime to the point I would recommend someone shopping for an non-iPad tablet to go with the Samsung Galaxy Tab. It's hardware is solid, it's built free of physical design defects and it's NOT using an over hyped yet immensely buggy Android 4.0 ice cream sandwhich OS.
Just make sure that when you are not sitting right next to the router you bring a beer can/aluminum foil/cut open the Prime so the wifi doesn't become unusable.
The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is a very strong tablet.
Thanks everyone. Thats all good to hear... regarding the Samsung option.. I don't think it has HDMI out so I can't watch my files on the TV??
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA
For me it is, others may disagree!
Go for it,if you don't like it, you can always return it.
I have the Prime and in the UK I'd say, for the money. it is the best tablet you can buy. In the UK we get it with a keyboard dock (I haven't seen the option to buy without unless you get a US version?) for £500. It has mini HDMI built into the tablet itself, can accept 64GB micro SDXC cards in the tablet and the dock has room for standard SD cards up to 64GB as well as a USB port for memory sticks, HDD's, wired contollers etc etc
Even though it plays alot out of the box I purchased Dice player for movies and prefer to use that.
Some THD games come with 3d stereo compatibility and when connected to a 3d tv atomatically switch to 3d.
A wireless PS3 pad works via bluetooth (once paired) for gaming whilst linked to a tv with an app called sixaxis useful when games don't support game pads.
As you can tell, even with one or two niggles, I am very happy with this Prime and use it more than my desktop pc atm. I even purchased Splashtop THD to access my pc (great for music, films and some games) from my tablet anywhere.
As you all have informed yourself, there are alternatives for whoever doesnt or cant afford a smart tv...not that their any big use and make you sit more on the damn thing, im interested more on a internet connect device for my TV...
has anyone tested them, it doesnt have to be a dongle strictly, im fine even if its a size of an Apple TV, it's the Android part that makes them interesting, but i see so many manufacturer-less dongle and it really makes it hard to decide for one...
I've noticed Dual-Core and JB dongles on ebay, but as i said, no manufacturer name on it, dodgy...
is there any mighty one outside there, googling did not reveal much...
