Have you guys seen this? It looks interesting, but I am not sure how they keep the plugs waterproof while also allowing connectivity. Anyone know?
I also wonder what would happen if the phone gets scratched...
http://www.liquipel.com/
Meh,liquipel is alright. Neverwet is better though. I think the difference being one is water repellant, the other is super hydrophoebic. I've seen the plug question asked before. Guess we'll never know. I know for liquipel, you have to send in the phone,i believe they treat the internals, though I may be wrong. My guess is liquipel is good enough to do it's job but thin enough not to interfere with connectivity.

Drycase is cool, but I think there is a strong appeal to not having to put your phone in the case, for fear of it getting water damage. Something less to think about is always good.

Looks interesting but since I got my very first dumbphone I never had problems with getting water on it.
It opens up possibilities, but nothing I need at the moment.
Passing it on to my foolish friends though, so thanks for that!
No problem!
So it makes it water resistant but not proof right?

sent from my Galaxy SIII ...haha jk, I FOiLed ya!
I want see more reviews as its really new. But This is real. And does work. Here is how.
Hydrophobic nanocules are applied via vacuum. Thus coating the outside AND INSIDE from water molecules (which are bigger than the nanocules) thus can't get in and create a conduction.
It is rated itx-7 meaning it is waterproof to up to 30min at 1 meter (3feet) depth... Jeez. So i wanna go swimming with it

Its not meant for warranty purposes.. This is just for anyone that wants to protect their device from water damage.
Im sure it voids the warranty..
*edit* .. I think they are also trying to get in with (somebody.. I forget, but they mentioned it at CES).. so that phones come with the Liquipel protection - which is a great idea but than the suppliers end up losing money because of not having to replace asany phones.. Not sure how it all works but somebody loses potential mula

i played with this stuff at CES this year. It was Fascinating! They used the stuff on a Napkin and had it sitting in a pool of water. When you pushed the napkin around in the water it never got wet and just rolled off (unless you were extremely harsh with it).
Quite impressive to see. You could also see the water interacting with the screen as it splashed against it (showing that its not just a "fake" cover)

While testing out some lighting I handed the phone to a friend to see how well the camera handles different types of lighting. Needless to say it slipped out of his hands when he jumped from a wasp frightening him. Drop from a little higher than waist high, but it did slide a little. Touch screen still works, but some pieces of glass did fall off (it chipped in layers- there's still glass just seems to be missing the top layer on some parts of the crack.
Photos to be up soon just got my replacement from asurion in ~3 days (was quoted 10-14). It's also new not a refurb . Otterbox on its way also.
Most surprising part was how badly the edge got muffed up was expecting the metal (aluminum?) piece to be a little harder and not this soft.
Focus goes really bad here sorry. The next one shows the crack went all the across the screen I think it spread after a day.
This one shows how badly the bezel got scratched up.
And the phone barely fits in the asurion envelope

$100.
I called sprint before setting up the claim on phoneclaim to make sure because I too thought it was $150. Didn't want to muck anything up by asking about the $150. But still it's amazing how the asurion guy quoted sprint (who then told me) I'd get it within 10-14 days because they had no stock but instead got it in 3.

I wish Sprint and Asurion would change the pricing based on past usage of the program. If you haven't replaced a phone in X months/years, then you should get Y% off of your premium/deductible. I am debating another option because $11/mth is just ridiculous.

Even with a bad ESN the phone is worth something. Plus from what I've read a lot of people claim the phone as lost or stolen in the insurance claim for things like cracked screens wait ~30 days then post it up for sale or call and claim they found it and try to get it taken of the esn blacklist... Also suprsingly the asurion envelopes don't have tracking #s...

You know, I don't think that it should, but since the nfc wire thing is in the battery and not in the phone itself I would kinda think that the case itself can interfere with the connectivity of the NFC chip. I guess you just have to try out sorry

Just used mine at McDonalds this morning with the case on.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I used mine at rite aid today, didnt work at first but the reason was, because the clerk has to switch it to credit or what not. It wont just work at some places, you have to tell them, "credit please". An usually you will hear something on their side and it will tell you to swipe card, then you just tap your phone.
I have a Seidio’s ACTIVE case and it works great.
Had no problem using mine at McDonald's but messed up the first time I tried it by not holding the phone on the card reader long enough. Once I realized that it works flawlessly.

It definitely doesn't work with all systems that accept paypass. It requires the correct software on the retailers side as well. For example...I went to The Container Store (which fully supports Google Wallet) and tried using my phone. It would beep and my phone would acknowledge that something happened, but it their side couldn't process it. Exact same thing happened at Banana Republic....who also supposedly accepts Google Wallet. I think this will be corrected as time goes on and it's not so "new" anymore though.

There's only one level of treatment avaliable for each device. They do the liquipel to your device and then test it and give it a rating. That rating comes in the form of level 1, 2, or 3, as 3 being the best. Our Evo was rated at level 1.

That is surprising to me. Mine has flown off my lap on onto the street when getting out of the car, fell out of my coat pocket onto the ground, dropped it from a ladder while painting, and dropped it numerous times at home on the floor. Never broke or cracked or nothing. I have a case but never use it. This phone is nice and slim, the case made it too damn bulky.
If you're going to toss it I'll take it. It would be a good experiment phone.

I'm just really surprised to see so many DNA breaks from dropping it. In fact I have never cracked a screen, knock on wood. My old Droid Razr was pretty durable too. Now my daughters ipod touch broke if you looked at too hard, haha JUNK

I had to get a replacement for my DNA, which came with the OTA, due to battery issues. I was looking forward to getting a phone with the old software and when the replacement came it had the old OS; but that had to go back due to the power button being concaved, so it was flush with the top, blown speaker and a dead pixel; and this was how it came out of the box! (100+ point inspection my a$$). The next replacement came and it too had the old software but wouldn't connect to WiFi. I received the third replacement yesterday and it was perfect, but the OTA was pre-installed. Hope you get not only the old software version but also a workable phone.

You can keep it, but don't sell it. When you report your phone lost, the carrier gives it a bad ESN.

well i suppose so yes it could be outside of the boundaries of the insurance agreement but i pay a subsidy and an insurance fee for a reason. I could claim the phone was stolen swap the motherboards and sell the broken unit to cover the insurance premium but i wont be doing that. I see no harm no foul. They will be recieving a perfectly functional peice of hardware in the exact condition I reported during the claim... to each his own though
If you swap the motherboard you will be converting the new Dna to the old esn that you just reported lost... So you are just giving yourself a bad esn. Lol
Also its fraud but whatever you want to do

Didn't I post a link with a video? It seems really easy to fix, that's why I wanted it. I even put an ad on craigslist. If you report it lost or stolen you could always "find it again" and they can reverse the bad ESN. My cousin bought a bad ESN phone from ebay. Verizon ended up calling the original owner and he went ahead and released it, they made the ESN good again. I don't know all the details but that's what he told me, sometime last year.
Hmm options, how much will it cost? Since the phone has to be sent away and cracked open anyway, buy the digitizer and send it to be jtagged, 2 birds with one stone. It might cost you a little more but you will be golden in the end. Fixed phone and S-off.
