This might be a stupid question but so be it. I have an otterbox case on my LTEVO and will the case interfere when trying to make a payment? I don't want to to look stupid trying to make a payment and taking the case off the phone because the little machine couldn't detect the phone/NFC payment or chip or whatever it is.

You know, I don't think that it should, but since the nfc wire thing is in the battery and not in the phone itself I would kinda think that the case itself can interfere with the connectivity of the NFC chip. I guess you just have to try out sorry

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong but AFAIK it should work wherever you see pay pass. The symbol/icon kind of looks like the WiFi icon on its side.

I just tried it, not as fast as I thought and it didn't work. I had to wake my phone, put it on the atm/credit machine, it then asked for pin, then it just hung on the animated WiFi logo... I just swiped my credit card instead...using cruzerlite case.

Just used mine at McDonalds this morning with the case on.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I used mine at rite aid today, didnt work at first but the reason was, because the clerk has to switch it to credit or what not. It wont just work at some places, you have to tell them, "credit please". An usually you will hear something on their side and it will tell you to swipe card, then you just tap your phone.
I have a Seidio’s ACTIVE case and it works great.
Had no problem using mine at McDonald's but messed up the first time I tried it by not holding the phone on the card reader long enough. Once I realized that it works flawlessly.

It definitely doesn't work with all systems that accept paypass. It requires the correct software on the retailers side as well. For example...I went to The Container Store (which fully supports Google Wallet) and tried using my phone. It would beep and my phone would acknowledge that something happened, but it their side couldn't process it. Exact same thing happened at Banana Republic....who also supposedly accepts Google Wallet. I think this will be corrected as time goes on and it's not so "new" anymore though.

Awesome. So now if you lose your phone (Wife, 2 times), you sorta lose your wallet too. It's a cool idea though.
Google doesn't have to step anything up. It's already included within the phone's hardware. I wouldn't buy a big ugly case like that just so I could have NFC. That just shows that Apple fanboys want what we have... AGAIN.

If you have a credit or debit card with paypass (NFC tag) you can install the NFC tag info app from the market to test with...
I tested today with two friend's EvoLTEs, and both of their phones had NFC that worked with each other, but not with my phone. Looks like it must be my hardware. Guess i'm headed back to Best Buy for an exchange. I will RUU and try again first just in case...
Listen, the EVO 4G LTE NFC antenna is behind the back top glossy cover. The SGS2 NFC is on the battery. So, that is why you need to put the back top half of the EVO LTE over the lower back side of the other phone.
I've found that if you're trying to use nfc for checkout it's easiest to already be in google wallet, but all that's required is for the screen to be on.
for other apps like beaming a webpage to another phone, hold them together, they'll buzz, then tap the screen on the one you want to transmit.
some apps don't support nfc beaming, like gallery.
as always, make sure settings are enabled in "settings/more"
I dunno if you have a case on or not but according to Google wallet support hard rubbery cases weaken the signal while hard plastic cases work but it's best to go naked while using it.
Sent from my EVO LTE using Tapatalk 2
thanks for the replies. yeah, i don't use any case, I prefer the thinness! After my RUU back to stock this morning i still can't get any NFC connections to happen, so i'm headed back to best buy for an exchange today...
Best Buy replaced my phone today and now NFC works as expected! It was funny when I talked to the "mobile manager" and told him my NFC wasn't working and he asked me "What is NFC." yeah... regardless of his knowledge-ability of technology, he did give me a no hassle exchange and out the door in under a half hour, which is lightning fast in my experience in that store...

I felt the same way when I first heard about it. After seeing it and using it I have to say that I feel very differently about it. It's a cool idea and very convenient to have all your coupons and loyalty cards in there and automatically applied as you make your purchase. That being said, Isis is the system that will probably win out in the end.

Im going to agree, having to load it with money from a credit card make wallet totally pointless. Sorry im not going to put money into it, just to get a "wow" out of some under paid cashier.

This stuff is all very new. At the moment, I'd rather add money to Wallet than link it to either my bank account or credit card. Actually, at the moment, unless I have a good reason to use it rather than using my credit card, I wouldn't even use it.

Google wallet is a neat gimmick, maybe it will catch on, maybe it won't. It kind of feels like the 3d screen on the Evo 3d again. It's gimmicky, but it sure is cool.
It's faster debit than the card, hold your phone over the scan pad & keep it moving.
It's a cool way to save for me, plus I hate pending transactions.
Nearly every store has it.
The mastercard paypass app will be key in letting you know if it's worth it. It'll show businesses that have the scanner.

I agree in general with you, but around here, just about the only places that have NFC payment options are 7-11 and CVS. I don't frequent them often enough to bother with Google Wallet. If it were more readily available or in at least one store that I go to often, I'd load up the prepaid card and use it all the time. If it takes off, I'll be on the bandwagon in no time, but for me, right now, it's just cool technology.

I had a couple behind me and the lady at the register rang me up and gave me the total so I unlocked my screen and put the phone on top of the advertisement they had on it. She and the people behind me just kinda looked at me and I felt stupid. I don't know if it was the advertisement, my rubber case, or me just not leaving it up there long enough but as soon as I felt like a dumbass (which was the second I put it up there) I took it off and dug my wallet out so I could swipe my card. I'm gonna have to practice on a vending machine to get the feel of it. Try case on and case off and see if that makes a difference.

Some NFC terminals you actually have to "tap," not "hover," the phone over in order to wake up the terminal. Just give it a little slap with your phone.
Been successful at CVS, 7/11, and a clothing store.
