I've had a 16gb Razr since it came out. Needless to say, it's a little past the 14 day warranty. I love it a lot. But could use the extra battery. I didn't get it because of it's thinness, but rather, all the other amazing specs.
Do you think I could call up Verizon and complain enough to trade my Razr in for the Maxx?
I think you should go ahead. The 3,300 mAh battery for the Maxx sounds really awesome. Too bad mine doesn't allow for trade-ins. Otherwise I think I'd do that too.

Honestly??? I wouldn't hold my breath on that happening. Usually you have to go through about 3-5 phone replacements before getting an upgrade early.
My step-mom was having issues with her Droid Eris after it was updated to 2.1. Every replacement Eris VZW sent her was a POS. I advised her to call Customer Relations not Customer Service and speak to them, as I heard they can help with early upgrades. She was able to upgrade her phone after the 4th replacement failed on her. She went with the Droid X, and only had to pay the upgrade price not the full retail price. Needless to say, the DX blew away the Eris, she was happy.
That would be my only advice, but it's a long shot.
I agree that its a long shot, but I'd also say its definitely worth a shot. Who knows, you might get a very nice CSR manager.

I wouldn't call it an upgrade, more of an update really. All of the specs on the MAXX are identical to the RAZR. The only difference is 1.9mm in width due to the larger battery. I've been thinking about calling too, feeling as though the maxx is kind of an "oops, we're getting alot of heat on the battery life, better fix it" device.
I too love my RAZR, and haven't really had any problems with battery life, but still feel like we should all be entitled to a better battery, problems or not.

I just called Radio Shack where I got my Razor and told them I was within 30 days and want to swap for the maxx. Asked if there was a restocking fee and she said no come in tomorrow and swap it out so I guess I get the Maxx tomorrow. Definitely worth calling.

Thanks for all the replies! I think I might call Verizon(where I got it from) tomorrow and try.

I wouldn't mind one of those either.
When I explained I was within 30 she said no restocking fee but after 30 would require 15% restocking fee. I told them I was duped in to buying with out being informed that basically a razr upgrade aka Maxx was due out in weeks. Really I think any ole story will work as they will still cash in on the old device selling pre owned.

It depends where you get it from, but Verizon has strict policy that states even if ur one day after your return period they shouldn't exchange, return it for what ever reason, they have to follow there exchange warranty policy. There are special cases where they do allow exchanges after the 14 days from Verizon but those are rares.
Haha! Get your phone from bestbuy mobile like i do! They give you 30 days to do so

That's the same argument that Bionic owners said when the RAZR was released 2 months after the Bionic. It doesn't hold any water with VZW. They'll just laugh at you and tell you that you can always sell your RAZR and pay full retail for the MAXX.
Also VZW will most likely look at it as an upgrade, not an update.
I'm not gonna try and exchange mine, but would absolutely love to send it in to Motorola to have it upgraded.

I called Verizon. I am very upset that only 2 months later, the EXACT same phone comes out with no changes other than an extended battery (not counting thickness, simply the operating system and software). It's not lke it's 6 months to a year. They released the original Razr, and two months later release the same phone for the same price, and lower the price of the one we all bought. That's bull.
Verizon's response: we can't control when Motorola releases its product, very sorry, understand your anger, I'll put a complaint through for you.
In other words, too f*cking bad.

Just wondering if anyone is thinking about returning their Droid RAZR to Verizon and getting the RAZR MAXX when it gets released in a couple of weeks?
Negative. I don't see a reason to for me, batter hasn't been a problem at all....and that seems to be the only upgrade correct?

Of course I've thought about it. But I've had my Razr since it came out, so over a couple months or something. Can you still trade it in? Or if you paid some sort of difference like $100?

Depends on when you actually bought your RAZR. I bought mine the 1st week of Dec. They are allowing you to return your RAZR by Jan 14th. There is a $35 restocking fee of course.
I don't understand how people are claiming they get 12hrs or more of battery life without turning off the 4G radio. I mean, what's the point of having a 4G phone if you have to turn off the 4G radio just to get decent battery life. I had an extended battery for my DX which gave me a days use. If the RAZR had a removable battery, I would have certainly bought an extended battery.

Yeah I am sure I missed my window, which is unfortunate. I totally agree. But I go to school where 4G hasn't rolled around yet. So I am forced to stick with wifi and 3G. Which I assume is why I get about 20 hours.
You know what would be really sweet? Is if Motorola allowed you to send your RAZR to them and they switch out the smaller battery for the larger one. I would pay for that.
Date is 26th....

I haven't yet bough a RAZR. I'd like to see in my hands first, how the MAXX looks like, if I think it's back is ugly,, I'll go with the RAZR.
From all that I have seen from CES pics etc the back looks the same but is thicker. It evenly tapers from the camera area down to the bottom rather than doing a quick thin out like our RAZR's do. It isn't as thin and imagine that it would feel thicker in the hands as well. If you want the new battery you will for sure need the new back as well, probably would fit as well.
I'm sticking with my RAZR, it's supposed to be super thin, that's the point. If the battery works for you it's not worth the change IMO.
I don't mind if it's thicker, I just don't know how it looks without the camera hump. (It may looks silly) Watching the video isn't enough for me to decide.

It seems like a waste of money just for extended battery life. There's no way I'm paying 400$ for a phone.

I returned my RAZR Saturday and activated my old OG Droid. It's weird going from a big phone, back to the smaller, slower phone. Can't wait until the MAXX comes out. Hopefully the 26th is the correct date. The date was removed from Motorola's web page.

$400??? Verizon and Motorola have already announced that it would be $299 at release. Just like the RAZR was when it was 1st released.
Wonder if the only difference is the battery/back cover. Would love to swap these out in my Razr.

Ditto. Plus I only paid $0.01 for mine from Amazon's 1 cent sale. Can't really justify spending $299.98 more just for the battery
About three Weeks ago, I finally got tired of how my original Razr (a launch day baby) was getting stuck in landscape mode. I'd eventually have to turn the phone upside down to get it to go into portrait and normal auto rotate. So, I called VZW, described the problem, told them I had already done a full reset (they always make you do that--I think they are trying to gut check people, or they just don't care how much effort pity takes to set your phone up again).
The tech dude apologized, and said he'd send me a "new" phone. I politely challenged that, saying, "you mean a refurb, right?" He said they were all certified, blah blah blah. I said I wasn't super happy about getting a refurb since I had paid full price on launch day. He kind of acknowledged the point but insisted the phone would be as new. Then came the pivotal moment: he asked me if I was otherwise happy with the phone. I said I loved it, but wished it had better battery life because even with SA, the battery didn't let me use 4G like I wanted. We chatted a bit, turns out he has a Max and loves it. So, out of the blue, he said "look, you want a $300 phone and better battery life, how about I give you a Maxx as a replacement?"
Who was I to say no? After I got off the phone, I went to Amazon and ordered an Otterbox and Cruzerlite case. I was psyched. Then the phone arrived--a standard Razr.
So, I called big red and said whazzup? I was told the tech wrote a check his booty couldn't cash, because the Maxx is so popular they only replace a Maxx with a Maxx. I was a bit bummed, and *****ed that I had $50 worth of useless Maxx cases now based on his promise. The one key thing here was the previous tech put it in the notes the Maxx was supposed to be sent, so it was documented at VZW. Getting nowhere, I sent my old Razr back, and fired up the "new" Razr.
What a POS!! It had the same l landscape lock issues, but also would drop data sometimes all day, it lost icons of the home screen, and was laggy as hell. If that had been my first Razr, I would have been ticked off.
So, I call VZW again, this time not being as accommodating (but ALWAYS polite to the tech), point out the insult to injury deal of not getting a Maxx in the first place, then getting a clearly defective Razr to boot. I get apologies, and a promise a supervisor would call. 5 days later, I call back, and am told I can either get a new Razr, or wait again for a supervisor. I choose wait, knowing 1) nobody would call, and 2) my trump card was the defective Razr. If they replaced that with another regular Razr, my need was much less footer them to deal with.
I called again 5 days later, this time stating it was obvious the guy who was supposed to call me wasn't going to, and held on line for a supervisor. Ultimately I got one, he agreed I should get a Maxx, and that its the phone I'm now posting this from.
What a long road. But with Maxx in hand, I'm happy.
Glad you got the Maxx.
I have a Galaxy Nexus. Got 3 replacement because of constant radio drops (not just data). I'd lose all radio reception. Anyway... long story short, made 3 calls... was offered the RAZR as a replacement device. But persisted until I got a rep who was willing to do a RAZR Maxx swap.
My rationale was that swapping for a RAZR was trading down. However, going to a RAZR Maxx was a fair trade since both were 32GB and were priced the same when I first got the Nexus ($299). I'll be getting it tomorrow. I made sure it was the Maxx. So I shall see if I get hit with the same situation as you.
Glad it worked out!
Hell of a road to travel, but glad to hear you got the Maxx that that promised.
So in summary, you scammed Verizon into sending you a new phone, and now want to validate yourself by telling the world they were in the wrong.
Cool.
Maybe you can do it again after the Razr HD hits, right?
Stick it to the man, man. Keep them corporations in a state of trepidation.
I dont see how this was a scam, seems like he was being totally honest, He wasnt happy about getting a refurb, I wouldnt be either I paid full price on release too.
Then once the guy asked about if he was happy and said he could swap for the maxx well that was luck more or less that the guy said that and recorded it,
That the defective replacement razr that is kinda like kicking a guy while hes down, thats unacceptable, quality control anyone?
I dont see how this was a scam, recently I got my razr replaced by asurion, and well Im not exactly happy, its had a few random reboots and Ive only had it 2 days, so I might ask if I can get a maxx to avoid more problems.

You're completely out of bounds here.
My story was similar to others. I bought a Galaxy Nexus on launch day and suffered with it for the last 6 months with a weak signal. I hung on to it so long due to promises that "the next update will fix it." The delays from Verizon and all the leaked updates never corrected the issue so I finally called to have it replaced.
Two Nexus's later, the CLN replacements were worse than my original phone. On calling Verizon yet again I asked if I was just going to keep getting other peoples defective phones as a replacement for mine. The customer service rep then offered to swap me out for a Razr. I declined as I felt it was a step backwards from the Nexus. I said that I would however concider a Maxx instead. He put me on hold while he consulted his boss (or so he claims) and I was approved for the trade.
It took 3 Maxx's before I got a good one though. The first one came in with the kevlar back warped and buckled and the frame under the volume rocker felt detatched as it would wiggle back and forth easily. The second would lose all radio signal every 3-5 minutes. I was sent to the Verizon store to try a new SIM card in it and the employees didn't believe me when I told them my issue. I had to show it to them first hand after the SIM swap (completely different rant, but they were so arrogent about how that couldn't be a fault with the phone that they told me 90% of all the issues are cause the customer doesn't know what they are doing).
Third time with the Maxx though was a charm I guess. This one has been flawless. It almost feels "magical" when compared to my old Nexus in regards to the battery life and signal strength.
Wow I'm honestly surprised they took so long to address your issues and the communication delay..
Either way.... Gotta admitted the MAXX was worth the trouble huh?
Love mime, glad see yet another happy max owner. Wait until you have ever ICS on it, it's twice as awesome. Maybe you already do though heh.

With the coming of an end to Verizon's unlimited plan I face a difficult task of choosing 4g phones for two of my family lines that are currently on 3g unlimited. I would ultimately like to just grab two Rezounds because they work great and I already have 2 of them on other lines. But with the recent price hike on them makes them unaffordable to me. So I've done some research on what's available to me currently and it seems the Droid Charge and Droid Razr are within my budget right now. Don't get me wrong, I would love to wait and get one of the newer phones coming available soon but I'm sure they will be priced out of my budget range also. So my two choices are Charge and Razr. My question to this great Rezound community is ...... what are your thoughts on the two phones? Please no flaming on either phone, just your advice please. Each phone has it's positive and negative aspects. Thank you in advance for your input.
Edit: Thanks to everyone who chimed in with their input. Got the Razr for $49.99 at Best Buy with my phone freedom $50 discount that I had on my line. So far it seems great. If I end up not liking it I will just hand it down to one of my kids and return to my Rezound. Thanks again everyone.

I've heard the RAZR has great battery life, but other than that the specs area kinda meh.
If the choice is betweeen the razr and the charge, I would take the charge all day long and I own both phones (my Wife has my old Charge & my son has a Razr Maxx.
The speed is so close between the two it is basically a toss-up even though the Razr SHOULD be faster, & the screen is so much better on the Charge there is no comparison whetever.

I guess it's a toss up of what the user's preference is: battery life or screen. For someone like my mom or sister, I'd lean towards battery life as the determining factor. But for me, I'd always go with the better screen. Hell, that's why I went out and bought a Galaxy Tab 7.7.
I came from the charge. It was a nice phone but did lag. But my sister and brother in law have the razr and they HATE them. After using them if I had to go back to either one I'd go back to the charge
The Droid Charge is, kinda laggy stock, there isn't much development for it and it's not getting ICS.
Razr by far. It has a higher Res screen better CPU and its a Motorola phone so it has good radios. It has better battery life and is obviously much thinner.
I had a droid charge and loved it.

I would think development is superior on the Rezound, plus the Razr is qHD pentile, ugh...
Maybe development isn't that bad on it, I'll have check it out.
I also like having a phone with some thickness so it has a better feel in the hand.
If you're going with the Droid Charge, I found that Tweakstock 2.0 with PBJ 05/04 kernel is fast, smooth, and feature-filled.
I only meant the Razr over the Charge, the only phone on Verizon I'd take over the Rezound is the Razr Maxx.

My kids have dinc2's with unlimited and I could switch them to thunderbolts but besides the 4g, the dinc2 is a better phone for them with good battery life for an android phone.

Dunno why anybody would purchase from anywhere else besides there and wirefly.com

And they charged us for the droid x and a $300 fee for changing the plan
I promise you after that bull crap ill never use them again

If it were in my price range I would. The reason I'm trying to decide between Charge & Razr is because I can get them free or next to nothing. Realistically if I could get a Rezound that cheap right now that's what I would choose.
I have an opportunity to get one for that, with it? I have a rezound, find the insurance claim tomorrow/today and selling it and I would like to get enough for that maxx worth it and is this phone worth what I want out if it?
ICS Rezound.
Is there something about your current phone that makes you want to switch?
My Maxx locks up, has bad wifi reception, and overheats. Whereas I loved the phone when I first got it now I miss my old HTC phones when I had Sprint.

Your experience with the MAXX is the exact opposite of mine, and the opposite of most users around here. The MAXX is the most stable Android phone I've ever had. I've had over 20 smartphones phones in the past four years, and the MAXX easily takes first place as the best of the bunch. The Rezound is a great device too, and I really liked it for the month that I had it. But the MAXX is just better overall in my opinion.

That's a good price for a MAXX off-contract. As for the value of the Rezound, a quick search of the Wanting to Sell forum in the Marketplace here on XDA shows that Rezounds are going for a little less than that these days, in the $275 - $300 range. You may be able to get a little more elsewhere. Either way, the resale value of the Rezound isn't far off the price of the MAXX that you're looking at.
I have a GNex and love it. Its $200 on contract.
Wife has the Fassy and I am looking to get her a new phone.
Razr is $100 on contract and is getting ICS any day now.
Are there any glaring issues or bugs I should know about before buying this phone?
For instance does signal suck or gps etc.
Thank you for your help!

Signal is great. Can't speak for GPS just cause I haven't hardly used it. As for bugs since were about to get ics there wouldn't be any point in listing bugs but im not aware of any
DROID RAZR MAXX
honestly no complaints outside of the fact that it doesn't have an S4 processor, meaning it's a ticking time bomb, in a month or so it'll be like having a single core phone when dual core came out
but if the wife isn't a techy go for it. if she is, you might wanna hold out until august and get her the HD MAXX
Avoid this phone please. It differently isn't up there with other phones atm. If you Gf isn't a heavy phone user. I'd get her the One S.

One S is not on Verizon, but can you explain the 'why' behind your post?
Been running Android since the G1 came out. The Razr Maxx is the best i've had to date... And i've hacked and modded all my phones previous. The Maxx battery is phenomenal. So good in fact i've had to adjust my habits of charging. GPS lock is right on and quick.
I did exchange my original Maxx because of screen issues (in dark lighting with dark screen there were blotches of spots on screen) other than that its solid.
I should mention it has a smaller 4g Sim card than my other phones ( charge, sidekick and Droid 2) so swapping is not simple. The nexus also uses micro sim.

wifi range sucks, otherwise it's the best phone on the market atm
It's a great device. I just came from a Rezound, and I like the Maxx MUCH better in many ways.
Disregard Mattyoncrack...
This phone is outstanding on GB or ICS. I have absolutely no complaints (except for the fact that it's on Verizon)!
