Hello, I'm seriously considering unlocking my bootloader using test point so I don't run into problems later with certificates and FOTA updates, but just in case, I would like to have the original .62 kernel file in hand, so I can flash it back and relock bootloader to receive updates.
Anyone has this file, I searched all over and couldn't find it.

You should have FW file and then extract it (via winrar, winzip,7zip,...) there's a file named "Kernel.sin" copy that in to fastboot folder and then run this command:
PHP:
fastboot flash boot kernel.sin
Another noob question, can I flash the old kernel (the one before .62 that has zergrush exploit) even with locked bootloader and mantaining the new fw?
The reason is I REALLY need root to recover a backup (changed from an U20a to a new SK17a recently).
I have unbranded SK17a with fastboot enabled.

You can. However you have to unlock the bootloader. If you want to lock the bootloader again, simply you can

Hey guys.
Two days ago i have flashed back my SK17i to stock rom.
I updated from FOTA.
I didn't know i must relock bootloader before updating from FOTA, so i bricked my phone.
After 2 minutes of deep panic, i've flashed the relock .ftf file, but it won't work on phones unlocked with test point.
So, i found a way to relock bootloader and go back to stock. (On forums i didn't see any guide regarding the method to relock bootloaders unlocked by test point)
I've done in this way:
1) Flashed stock kernel
2) Flash the .ftf relock file
3) With S1Tool hit restore
The phone is now bootloader locked, without losing of DRM!

Did you tried to download the latest version of flashtool?
Also, try to re-download the ftf file from another mirror, you should able to relock bootloader.

brov dont really understand dis, please break it down a little bit!
I just registered to confirm this method works. I foolishly allowed a FOTA yesterday and bricked my phone. It was unlocked via testpoint so the relock method didn't work, even though I tried it! I also tried flashing with S1tool with generic firmware and that didn't work. Then just out of curiousity/desperation I clicked on the RESTORE button in S1 and my phone actually started but was now locked again. I re-did the testpoint unlock this morning so now my phones fully updates and working with my SIM of choice.
I don't know if you need to do all the flashing as it may just be the RESTORE that does the trick. I definitely won't be allowing any OTA from now on. Lesson learned!
Just to confirm, so long as I do the update via PCCompanion or SEUS software I wont need to do all this?
Files to download please?

If you unlocked your bootloader with test point, no need to flash anything, just press restore button in s1tool.
anyone tried this method to relock the bootloader which unlocked by test point method and still have the sim/network unlock

You can't root on fw .62! You must flash back to .42 (use wotanserver) and then root. After that, update your phone by OTA (on the air update) to .62!
Completely untrue. You can root - read the posts.
In a nutshell, because posters fail to bother to read everything:
Copy Rootxperia.zip to the SD card
Factory reset (don't format the SD card)
Use flashtool or Wotan to install your version of 0.62
Use fastboot to BOOT (not flash) recoveryNeo.img
When CWM boots, install Rootxperia.zip
Done
(CWM in this instance is hot booted, not "installed")

This method works only with unlocked bootloader. By unlocking bootloader you loose warranty and some phones has no unlockable bootloader.
The OP has an unlocked bootloader... according to previous posts. My response reflects that.
Unlocking BL MAY affect your warranty... in practice highly unlikely.
Phones that cannot be unlocked are likely carrier locked which is a whole new moral ballgame. The desire to mess with these is dubious at best. Users intending to modify their phones should have unlocked carrier-free phones.

If you accidentaly update officaly firmware, for example, ICS will relise and you go update (with unoffically unlocked bootloader it is possible), you brick phone!

Well, you see, I wouldn't agree with you
You know someone who did that?
OTA update brick phones with officially unlocked BL. Since the ones unlocked via test point can use all official tools(PCC, SEUS) I believe they can also use OTA, since their BL's are patched.
Also, how can you accidentally update it?

With officaly unlocked bootloader OTA update not possible!
Some customers with unlocked boot loaders have experienced problems when they are accepting over the air upgrades (FOTA - Firmware upgrade Over The Air). For customers that have unlocked the boot loader, please do not accept any over the air upgrades. For additional information, check out the hints and tips from the community on the XDA forum.

Yes, that is official statement for BL unlocked via official way. Since those phones can't use SEUS or PCC because those programs can realize someone messed with OS, but FOTA is dumb and can't realize that, so she still try that's when Mr. brick comes into town
Unofficially unlocked BL's can use SEUS and PCC so I believe they can also use FOTA. All brick's came from officially unlocked phones. I haven't heard any case where it happen with unofficially unlocked BL.
If you show me one example they I will change my way of thinking

By my opinoin the easiest way is to unlock the boot loader and then you can do what ever you want..otherwise I would recommand wotan..
everything is possible, almost then, but indeed you cant root 62, but if you downgrade to 42 do this: tick only wiping data & cache with flashtool, restart your phone and then you are on 42 not so hard to do it if you on unlocked bl, but i think thats already explained sorry for that then, but it must work i try it many times on my own phone and lock and unlock my bl to several times, so good luck with it.
Flashing original sony ericsson kernel dont need bl unlocked?
And can anyone upload .42 kernel here in ftf file?
Becouse where iam found its have same size as .62 kernel

So,I've rooted and unlock its bootloader for a long time.I also install my phone ClockWorkMod Recovery and etc. other root stuff (My android is 2.3.4 .58 Firmware)
So,today I thought I will finally relock my bootloader as my phone will receive a new ICS official from Sony Ericsson anytime from now until end of June,so I download a relock bootloader ftf file (I've searched it in the internet, and download the right file). After I flashed it (I've enabled USB debugging before shut down my phone and I also sure my phone is in flash mode during flash),my phone WON'T boot up...I don't know what happen,so I'm currently fixing it by using WotanServer, and it downloading in progress now (My x10 Mini Pro bricked 5 times, and I fix it 5 times by myself without whining )
So,I wanna ask you guys :
Why my phone won't boot up?Although the bootloader is locked by Flashtool, but it won't boot up I've stock FIRMWARE and stock KERNEL in my phone...never modified it,only root, unlock its bootloader and flash CWM in it...
Thanks for reading I hope you can answer my question
Regards,
UchihaDareNial
Uhm, since WotanServer installs also stock kernel back...doesn't it require unlocked bootloader?
I am not sure, but that would make sense with all other kernel installations also.
Unlock bootloader, install firmware and kernel with WotanServer again, boot and relock bootloader.

Thanks for the information man,by the way,I just restore my phone using WotanServer and WotanServer will always be my trust to restore my phone if it got a brick or something like that
I restore my phone with Firmware .58 and I rooted it using ZergRush, and update it using OTA [My phone automatically bootloader locked] (I install US Generic xD even I live in Malaysia,so I got Sk17a instead of Sk17i) and now I got .62 firmware with root access in my phone

PC Companion doesn't work with unlocked bootloader at all.
You might be correct, as I have never tried update/repair via PC Companion.

I know, the point is that it's not necessary for flashing stock kernel bootloader to be unlocked.I think it's pretty obvious, if it didn't update with locked bootloader then sony would have to force users to unlock bootloader or give unlocked phones or never update kernel.
Sup peeps!
I have an idea to root the above firmware build for 2011 xperia devices but i have no idea how to develop things or if its even posible so i pose this question:
I dont really want to downgrade, root and then update back to .62 but would it be posible to use the testpoint method to unlock the bootloader then in fastboot mode create an update.zip that simply places the super user files directly on to the NAND?
My reason for this is that I've looked all over for ways to root and one that i saw said download a file "recoveryNeo.img" then run "fastboot boot recoveryNeo.img" and from there then flash an RootXperia.zip but when i attempt to use the fastboot boot command it comes up with an error saying:
"FAILED (remote: The Device must be rooted first)"
then i realised that theres an update command in fastboot so i tried that using the RootXperia.zip file that i had already download and it gave me this message:
"error: update package has no android-info.txt or android-product.txt"
is there a way to put those 2 files into the .zip?
and if there is is then posible to use my idea?
Here is one of the many copys of the tut im talking about:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431033
Thanks in advance! :fingers-crossed:
I think it is not possible because of lack of Official Signature for zip file.

I was on rooted .42 then the update came along and it kept failing when i tryied to do it OTA (at this point I still had a locked BL) so i plugged into my Laptop and updated through PC companion but i didnt realise at the time that it would remove my root. So now i have an unlocked BL (Via the testpoint method) And now i want root but i dont wanna lose my data.
Unlocked BL = possible root for any firmware version

Hi guys.
This is my x10a:
es.tinypic.com/view.php?pic=6854cj&s=8
(I guess I cant post some links, I hope you can see the picture)
I dont know what to do next. It has xRecovery, and its Rooted, both things via Flashtool. I guess its Ginger 2.3.3.
So I need the Bootloader Unlock. S1tool says I have to unlock something with Setool2. The problem is i cant find Setool2 ANYWHERE.
Im a bit lost indeed. Im new with Xperias.
Please, please, my phone is slow, laggy, the camera does not work, it gets freezed. Can someone indicate me what to do next? I want to install a custom rom, to improve my phones perfomance, but I cant do it because of that Bootloader thing. Please some advices please!
Thanks for all.
EDIT: At least, I want to re-install the 2.3.3 Stock Rom. I have the ROM TFT file. What should I do? Just flash it with Flashtool? No kernel issue or something rare like that? Dont want to brick it. Please help!
Flash it : http://www.mediafire.com/download/g261sds11dt91ug/Xperia+X10_2.3.3_Generic.rar
Unzip the rar file and flash the ftf with flashtool. It's a french firmware : you must change the language to spanish
If you just want install a new custom rom, put your phone in flash mode and clic unlock bootloader on flashtool. Read the instructions and your phone will reboot two times. Once done, flash your new kernel and new rom
Thanks

Thanks for your answer friend, but it seems to be that my bootloader cannot be unlocked. Ive already tried that. I flashed a Generic 2.3.3 Stock ROM, Rooted it, then installed the xRecovery and so on. Flashtool keeps sayin: "Cannot identify your SL. Aborting". So I guess it cant be unlocked, or, if it can, its risky.
