Sup peeps!
I have an idea to root the above firmware build for 2011 xperia devices but i have no idea how to develop things or if its even posible so i pose this question:
I dont really want to downgrade, root and then update back to .62 but would it be posible to use the testpoint method to unlock the bootloader then in fastboot mode create an update.zip that simply places the super user files directly on to the NAND?
My reason for this is that I've looked all over for ways to root and one that i saw said download a file "recoveryNeo.img" then run "fastboot boot recoveryNeo.img" and from there then flash an RootXperia.zip but when i attempt to use the fastboot boot command it comes up with an error saying:
"FAILED (remote: The Device must be rooted first)"
then i realised that theres an update command in fastboot so i tried that using the RootXperia.zip file that i had already download and it gave me this message:
"error: update package has no android-info.txt or android-product.txt"
is there a way to put those 2 files into the .zip?
and if there is is then posible to use my idea?
Here is one of the many copys of the tut im talking about:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431033
Thanks in advance! :fingers-crossed:
I think it is not possible because of lack of Official Signature for zip file.

Thats why i unlocked my bootloader so the phone should not need it to be signed should it?

Also is there no way to sign it? I mean if developers can sign full roms why cant they sign an update.zip?
If you wanted root, why did you update to .62 in the first place :-?

I was on rooted .42 then the update came along and it kept failing when i tryied to do it OTA (at this point I still had a locked BL) so i plugged into my Laptop and updated through PC companion but i didnt realise at the time that it would remove my root. So now i have an unlocked BL (Via the testpoint method) And now i want root but i dont wanna lose my data.
Unlocked BL = possible root for any firmware version
Your idea is same as instructions in the thread you linked, so not sure where is difference
Hotboot/boot kernel with CWM like recoveryNeo.img, and flash superuser.zip from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678690

Is there a way to root my neo running firmware 4.0.2.a.0.62 without using fastboot
I have unlocked bootloader using test point
But the phone is sim locked so its not possible to boot into fastboot mode by holding the menu key and plugging in usb
Is the no other method to root this version other than fastboot
DooMLoRD method does not root the device either
Even though i am sim locked can i still install custom roms if i was eventually able to somehow get cwm on the device

no way. you need to downgrade to 42, and read this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468866
which you could found if you search a bit(actually it's on the same page.. and in the sticky roll-up thread), user with 300+ posts should know that.

And of course i searched but was unsuccessful
No need to unlock bootloader to root phone.
You only have to use flashtool to flash .42
then use flashtool to root.
then use flashtool to flash .62
Follow the guide from above, its a 5 minute job
downgrade to .42
root with Doomloard method
Hello there
Yesterday i did the root trick for 6.1.1.B.1.54 with flashtool, where you downgrade to an earlier kernel (.544) in flashmode, push superSU and then upgrade again to .54.
In the dev forum for the Xperia P i have found the Sliding_XP kernel, which i want to install.
The question is, do I need an unlocked bootloader to do this? Or is it just flashable via flashtool?
Also, it says in the kernel's thread that the package also contains CWM recovery. That removes the fastboot mode, right? (since it is accessible via vol down, same as for fastboot)
Sorry for sounding like an xda-noob (Yeah, i've seen the video and I should hate myself).
Thanks in advance!
It doesn't remove anything.
Volume down is for flashmode btw.
Sent from my Xperia U using xda premium
Oh, sorry. I rechecked and yeah, it is the flash mode. fastboot is volume up.
The question remains: Do i heed an unlocked bootloader to install this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002202
As I said, i have the rooted 6.1.1.B.1.54 update, and my bootloader is locked, no other hacks have been done to the phone

I see. I know that OTA updates are no longer available upon unlocking your bootloader, nor some services such as trackid (which doesn't bother me), or Download muic info in the walkman app. Are there any more disadvantages?
Also, when Sony releases the official promised JB update, the only way to update it will be with the ftf file, right?

First of all OTA updates not available and others you know that.....
next is your warranty will be void most probably......
Sony officially said that it wont release JB for SOLA so anyhow you wont require OTA for that......
and i bet you will get JB only through XDA.......

I don't have a sola, i have a P
Alright, so I have unlocked my bootloader. (Horray.) It did delete everything, but for some reason, SuperSU is still there.I hope that rooting before unlocking the BL did not do anything bad to it.
As a total noob who doesn't want to brick his phone, someone please tell me what exactly i need to do now in order to install the kernel mentioned above
In other words, how exactly do you install kernels? With recovery? I don't have that installed in my phone. Also it says that the kernel comes bundled with CWM. This confuses me.
What mode do I need to select in order to flash it on my Xperia P? Flashmode or Fastboot?
Also, in case anything goes wrong and my phone gets bricked while flashing, is there any chance that the phone might be permanently bricked, as in not revivable via either entering fastboot or flashmode to flash a new official fresh firmware file?

Slowdown dude, your to fast...it depends on the kernel,if its .img just flash it via fastboot if its a .zip file flash it via cwm recovery,i assume you have a non recovery, coz your using a stock kernel, i recommend you to flash sliding xp kernel,it has cwm recovery built in,...happy flashing,

Wow, that's a long guide. Is the main/only reason to unlock the bootloader to install custom roms (can't this be done with just root access?).
I have root, but don't really wish to install custom roms. I don't have the bootloader unlocked, but I know it can be unlocked
why to unlock bootloader?
why to unlock bootloader?
1. u can flash custom ROMs/Kernels
2. u dont need to worry if the new firmware can be rooted or not as with unlocked bootloader u can always ROOT ur device
3. Sony gives sneak-peaks/preview builds of latest OS which requires unlocked bootloaders, as they did with Xperia 2011/2012 line, so who knows may be Sony may give early builds of next android OS

I think it would be wise to mention not to forget to backup TA partition with DRM keys before bootloader unlock.
Thank you very much. This tutorial covered all the issues I ran into so I knew what to do.
Btw, the .bat for allowing unsigned drivers doesn't work on Windows 8. A quick google search helped me but maybe you might want to add that to your tutorial for other, less techy users.

if your bootloader can't be unlocked it means that you can root your device, but won't be able to install any custom firmware. But you can install XZDR recovery.
Once you get the bootloader unlocked what is the root method? Also, is there a different process for flashing roms?

to root device you don't have to unlock bootloader. Unlocking is for installing custom ROMs.
That I understand. Thank you. I was asking since i already unlocked the bootloader and am unrooted. What is the process to gain root at this point?

Use Flashtool. It can automatically unlock bootloader. Only unlock code 0xFBCD6A2B26CB8F88 is needed.
Cant figure out which file to replace and where it is. Can get my tab to recognize in adb devices mode but nothing is coming up when i type fastboot devices in adb. It is not recognized. I am stuck. Any help will be appreciated. I have got unlock code and the usb inf file but no light further.
Hi guys.
This is my x10a:
es.tinypic.com/view.php?pic=6854cj&s=8
(I guess I cant post some links, I hope you can see the picture)
I dont know what to do next. It has xRecovery, and its Rooted, both things via Flashtool. I guess its Ginger 2.3.3.
So I need the Bootloader Unlock. S1tool says I have to unlock something with Setool2. The problem is i cant find Setool2 ANYWHERE.
Im a bit lost indeed. Im new with Xperias.
Please, please, my phone is slow, laggy, the camera does not work, it gets freezed. Can someone indicate me what to do next? I want to install a custom rom, to improve my phones perfomance, but I cant do it because of that Bootloader thing. Please some advices please!
Thanks for all.
EDIT: At least, I want to re-install the 2.3.3 Stock Rom. I have the ROM TFT file. What should I do? Just flash it with Flashtool? No kernel issue or something rare like that? Dont want to brick it. Please help!
Flash it : http://www.mediafire.com/download/g261sds11dt91ug/Xperia+X10_2.3.3_Generic.rar
Unzip the rar file and flash the ftf with flashtool. It's a french firmware : you must change the language to spanish
If you just want install a new custom rom, put your phone in flash mode and clic unlock bootloader on flashtool. Read the instructions and your phone will reboot two times. Once done, flash your new kernel and new rom
Thanks

Thanks for your answer friend, but it seems to be that my bootloader cannot be unlocked. Ive already tried that. I flashed a Generic 2.3.3 Stock ROM, Rooted it, then installed the xRecovery and so on. Flashtool keeps sayin: "Cannot identify your SL. Aborting". So I guess it cant be unlocked, or, if it can, its risky.

I have xperia pro and rooted it with eroot. Bootloader is not unlocked. When I flash APKs using ADB or Fastboot it gives error that device is not rooted but superuser is already there on the phone. Yes, you only need an unlocked bootloader. Mount system as RW. And then replace the cam app in /system/priv-app, but I would suggest you to unlock bootloader, install cwm and make a nandroid

If I unlocked bootloader then can I able to use repair operation from Sony PC Companion.

I mean to say can I backup my existing ROM, bootloader and all and if so can you please let me the process to do so.
Because there are so many threads and there are so many applications to do it and I am not able to figure out the correct procedure.
I also have the RW permissions and can replace the app but its meta files and all will not be replaced then. So do you know method to flash this APK.

Bootloop is a different term. It is because of bad ROM, once you unlock bootloader, nothing can relock it except you do it. So nothing to be scared of.
