Hi
It's a thread which collects Ubuntu stuff for SGS2 and includes some of my mods.
The content is from or based on fire314's, JDouce's and zacthespack's work. And their work is based on other people's work, so thanks everybody
Why is it better, than the sources I used?
-it's up to date
-works
-smallest download size
-less space required on sd/internal storage
-very detailed instructions
Why to use Ubuntu on an Android phone?
Why to overclock?! Just because we can do it To show off
And you can use Chromium browser to browse the web, you can edit documents in Open/Libre Office, etc.

Download
I recommend this Lubuntu img, made by zacthespack, edited by me.
It's less than 500MB to download, 1800MB img file size on the phone, and sports LXDE (leightweight desktop):
Filehosting.org
Ubuntu One
Dropbox
Google docs
It is the necessery script to run Ununtu/Lubuntu, made by fire314:
ubi.sh
Ubuntu One
Dropbox
It is an Ubuntu img (Gnome desktop), made by JDouce, modded by me.
It's almost 1GB to download and 2,5 or 3GB (I don't remember) on the phone:
Depostie Files
Fileserve
Then, there is the one made by JDouce without any mod.
Almost 1,5GB to download in 2 parts, and 3,5GB (as I remember) on the phone:
Part 1
Part 2
The original from zacthespack:
Link to he's thread
He works on it, and uploads new versions, so no need to place a link for the file itself.
There are 2 versions now:
Ubuntu - 1,5GB to download and 3,5GB on phone
Lubuntu - 500MB to download and 2,5GB on phone
Instructions:
1. Choose one of the images (will add more later) and download it, and get the script aswell
2. Unzip ubuntu.img and copy it and ubi.sh to your sdcard or internal storage, both files to the same folder
3. Open a terminal emulator and type:
su
Accept root permission request if appears, then type:
cd (name of the place where the files are. Example: cd /sdcard)
You can check if the files are there by typing „ls”. If everything is fine, than type:
sh ubi.sh
like this:
and if everything is fine you get this:
4.Open a VNC client and fill out the following
password: ubuntu
address: localhost
port: 5900
set colors to 24bit
5. Hit Connect button
6. Now you should set the "mouse"
touch Menu button
Input mode
Touchpad
Turning it off:
In the VNC client:
touch Menu button
Disconnect
In the terminal emulator:
touch Menu button
Close window
accept it
You can add, delete programs in Synaptic.
If you want to start Lubuntu/Ubuntu anytime, just do the 3rd and 4th steps ; )
I didn't do much. I just made some small changes. All the credits go to zacthespack, JDouce and fire314.
I know, that JDouce has a thread, but he doesn't do much nowadays. He edited the OP more than 5 months ago. And I think it's such a fun, that it deserves some more attention.
Troubleshooting:
If it doesn't start after step 4, or your phone reboots after step 3:
change kernel!
Siyah 2.6.8 changelog:
-fixed the bug which prevented using ubuntu and was causing some random reboots...
so earlier versions doesn't work
If it starts, but the mouse pointer doesn't move:
check the step 6 in the OP
If you can't read or mount the sdcard/internal storeage after turning Ubuntu off:
reboot
Download links are up!
Let me know which one is the fastest and where would you like to see the next versions uploaded.
And if you have any question or suggestion, don't hold it back

I am looking for a way to get Asus Transformer Prime capable of developing Android Apps, so it might not just be funny, but also very useful
I did try to see if I could make my SGS2 dual boot, but it did not work for me so far. And I am not sure I would want this as the phones OS, although it is temping if it can also use one of those Android App players that seems to be in development. I am not sure if they are even trying to target Linux though.
But the possiblities of Linux on Android hardware is.... mindbogging

Please read this before start asking questions
1.Android is in testing development.
2.Is not working fully.
3.You can't install Android in your phone.
4.You can run Android in your phone with Haret and see how it look but:
5.There are no working wifi, bluetooth, phone calls, battery, usb conection, ac charger connection and many other things....
6.All drivers and kernel are still under construction.
7.Now you know that Android is not working fully in our phone.
8.If you still want help and test build that is OK.
Now to run Android properly in your phone !
1.Download any of the builds we have around here.
2.Do backup on your sdcard or if you have additional one use this one.
3.Extract the file with android in your sdcard.
4. Check all the files are inside (sdcard/Android/AndroidApps"folder", media"folder",root"folder",clrcad"file",rootfs"fil e",startup"file",system"file",zImage"file",initrd" file")
5. If you want you can take everything from Android folder and pest it in root of the sdcard but you have to change default text (set cmdline"rel_path=Android change to set cmdline"rel_path=" or set cmdline"rel_path=sdcard") tri with one if is not working try with the other one. I thing the best is leave all files and folder in default Android folder and just copy this folder to your sdcard.
6.Check your zImage and Startup is for Toshidroid :OP (TG01).
7.First RUN haret without CLRCAD.
8.It take no more than10 min to run for the first time.
9. If it take more time RESTART the phone by pressing the POWER BUTTON for 10/20 sec it will restart and back to windows.
11.Try to do the same one more time.
12.If it still not booting to Android and you receive any error messages. Check your sdcard if there is space left in it. Check error message if it say that it can find some file or it can't create a data.
13. Delete everything from your sdcard and format it to fat32.
14.Start from the beginning.
15. If it still not booting to Android then check if you have all files and all set how it has to be.
16. Don't forget you can broke your phone. And we are not responsible for any damage you cause to your phone.
17.It is all up to you.
19. If I forget something sorry about just ask there are other memebers who will try to help you if they can.
20. Sorry for my English mistakes. I'm trying to fix them. :OP
Thanks to all people who try their best to make that possible: Markinus, Arash18k,Bally3,Endrix,Nyl,Arnookie and all other.

The android screen (1.5 cupcake) on Tosh TG01 was taken from intomobile.com
There is no android for HD2 or Acer F1/s200 (and these phones have bigger community) so I don't think someone here will run android on TG01 until it comes for one of these two mentioned above...
you are right..
however I have googled and found these.

I am not into programing but it might give some head start to who want to make it happpen..
I don't know how to go about porting android to TG01, but I'm looking into it... don't know if it will go anywhere but what the hell, it's worth a try.

Don't know much about Android. But I think Haret is only a bootloader. You still need the Android files to boot.

Yep Haret kills the WinMo kernel to boot another one, i've got the Xperia X10 and Acer Liquid Kernels source code, so i'm going to build them just to see how far it will go and hopefully create a starting point for Android on TG01
Just to keep you updated, i'm not getting anyware for the moment, but i'm not giving up, if anyone has got any info on building a linux kernel for snapdragon please post it
Google Nexus one, acer liquid and many other devices have Snapdragon and Android.
If it's found some info about linux kernel on them, it would be a good starting point, don't you think?
EDIT: I've just google a little and found this:
NEXUS ONE KERNEL POSTED
Cyanogen has developed a web for developing nexus one kernel. So, maybe, you can find something there.
Here you can find a kernel for Nexus One
And here you can find the kernel source for the Acer Liquid

Yep, i've installed the 10.04, and it's pretty cool, on my dell precision m6500, i had a probleme getting the wifi working but other than that it runs like a charm
Has anyone got any idea on how to find the 'RAMADDR' and 'RAMSIZE' for haret ?
these are for HTC diamond witch has 192 mb ram
set RAMSIZE 0x7800000
set RAMADDR 0x10000000
Yeah but it is specific to every phone... so I either somebody already know them, or I need a way to find them..
This is the ARMEDSlack(Slackware) on the HTC HD2, hope you will enjoy it
Features
USBHost mode to connect USB stuff
Tv-out using DisplayLink -> Conifrmed working.
3G
Wifi
Internal bluetooth-NEED TESTERS.
KDE Desktop
Oxygen Theme
ARMEDSlackware current, 01May(updating to 21Jan11)
With games, graphics, internet(only included konq, please download Firefox manually), multimedia, office(not OpenOffice, but can load *.ppt, *.xls, etc) applications
KvKbd on-screen keyboard, can docking
NTFS Support
Original version of slackware(ARMEDSlack), did not do much customization
Installation
Decompress the archive, you will get a folder named "slackware", copy that folder to the ROOT of your sdcard.
Switch on the phone, navigate to that folder using the file browser, run "CLRCAD.exe" first, then run "haret-pre-0.5.3-20100629_092009-QSD8250-ONLY.exe"
Default kernel is USBHOST, if you want to use alternative kernel, open the "startup.txt", comment out (by removing out "#") the kernel you want and comment the kernel you don't want.
You can now customize the system path, to do this, create a file called "slackware_path.txt" under the ROOT of your SD card, and put the slackware path as the content of that file, for example:
"slackware_path.txt":
Code:
/slackwarelinux

Note
- Phone may rang if someone calling to your phone, but phone application may crash after the phone rang, so please DISABLE PHONE RINGING
- ROOTFS will be 4000MB(NOT 4096MB), due to limit of FAT file system!
- You can use slackpkg to install stuff, just type "slackpkg install packagename" in the terminal.
- You are suggested that to take care all of the dependencies problem FIRST, slackware(slackpkg/installpkg) WILL NOT take care it for you.
- The passwords of users:
root: password Yep, "password" is the password
slackware: Yep, it's blank
- In default, user "slackware" can use sudo without password
Something about the next release
- Next version will be sound enabled(media and in-call sound), solution have been found, but i will not release the driver in THIS RELEASE!
- Next version may have a newer kernel, which works with both MAGLDR and HaRET, I will not release this kernel first because USBHOST is not working

Yes! But you need change your kenel first,
if the kernel compile still fail, i will use HTC HD2 Ubuntu v0.3's kernel
Best of luck with this
As nicola360 implies, touchscreen may not matter if usb hosting works, since we can use keyboard and mouse.
And if we can boot via magldr, then WP7, android and ubuntu tri-booting becomes a workable reality.
I can't wait to have a magldr bootable version of linux! Will the sound (call) and texting work?
Maybe it's a stupid question at this time of the developement of this version...

Should work on SGH-i777 as well... Just thought I'd share.
(edit) TESTED -and this does in fact work. You can even access the Linux UI via any VNC viewer as long as you're on the same network as your phone or tethered. I have added to the tutorial below to specify. You can also access your Android file system and access everything via this image. I leave you to drool.
***(edit 2) If you can't figure it out, I have found Ubuntu installers available on the Market, but they require you to use your internal storage space. This version can be installed on either internal OR external memory. The performance and UI of this version is better too. The versions available via app are not optimized as well as this one. =) - Just know that there is a foolproof way to accomplish this if you can't read directions... Just search "ubuntu" in the Market.
-----Original Post (with clarifications and additions by Monsieurtalbot)-----
DO NOT UPDATE UBUNTU TO 11.04/11.10 IT'S HORRIBLY SLOW AND BREAKS THE .IMG! -
YOU CAN HOWEVER INSTALL ANY OTHER UPDATES AND APPS JUST FINE.
1. Download the Ubuntu files (2 part .rar)
File sizes should be;
Part1 = 900 MB
Part2 = 572 MB
Part1 Download
Part2 Download
2. Open Part1 and unrar the folder and copy to your internal sdcard (/sdcard) OR external SD card (/sdcard/external_sd) - this unrar's both parts.
**there should be 2 files - "ubuntu.img" & "ubuntu.sh" - these go into an "ubuntu" folder in one of these locations.
3. Open the Market (now Play Store) - download and install terminal emulator and Android VNC viewer - Both free.
4. Open Terminal emulator. Depending on where you copied the files mentioned in step 1/2, enter ONE of the following sets of commands.
**Remember. Commands and directories are case sensitive, so make sure everything (including the file names and folder title) is lowercase to make it work.
(if you copied to the INTERNAL sdcard)
Code:
cd /sdcard/ubuntu
su
sh ubuntu.sh
(if you copied to the EXTERNAL sdcard)
Code:
cd /sdcard/external_sd/ubuntu
su
sh ubuntu.sh
press home - and DO NOT CLOSE the terminal. You need to keep this shell open.
(you can also get an app called "Script Manager" from the Play Store to make re-entering these commands simple later.)
5. Open the Android VNC viewer and connect using the following settings.
Code:
address: localhost
port: 5900
password: ubuntu
set color to 24 bit
You can also use a VNC viewer on a PC or tablet to access the Linux UI, and use the keyboard and mouse using your favorite VNC viewer (I was using TightVNC on Windows) with the following settings while both devices are connected to the same WIFI (or tethered to the phone)
Code:
address: (your phone's local IP address here)
port: 5900
password: ubuntu
set color to 24 bit
VOILA - You now have Ubuntu 10.10 running on your device.
6. WHEN FINISHED- Shut down Ubuntu in the UI, disconnect VNC, then in the Terminal Shell type: "exit" without quotes and press <enter> to clean up the Linux image mount for next boot. Failure to do this may result in a corrupt install. Once you see a "#" with no commands, it is safe to close the terminal window.
_______________________________________________________
Whats Working?
USB Host - Using adapter cable available online to attach keyboard, mouse, or Flash drives.
WiFi
3G
Browsers- any of them... I suggest Chromium over Firefox, but they both do the trick.
Installing Applications
Updating (NOT UPGRADING to 11.04/.10)
Its pretty much working, let the OP (linked above) know if you have issues.
***HELP! UBUNTU WORKED BEFORE, BUT NOW IT WON'T BOOT-
The image creates a new folder to mount the Linux files at "data/local/mnt"... Connecting USB to a PC, unmounting the storage device the image is stored to, a forced shut down, or unexpected occurance in the shut down procedure CAN cause this. It's due to "stuck" files in that directory. -Attempt to clear the contents of this folder - followed by a reboot if you have any issues. You can do this using root explorer, or with the following terminal commands.
Code:
su
rm r /data/local/mnt
GOOD LUCK!

If you can copy 2 files to an ubuntu folder on the root of your SD, install 2 apps in the market, and type in 3 commands, you can get this running.
Simple, eh?
What happens if I want to go back to android os?
EDIT: Sorry, I skipped the part that said that it was an emulator.
EDIT 2: I didn't know anything about Android back then...
Having problems running this past terminal. What Kernels can be used with this? NEAK? Siyah? I get this in terminal.

Welcome To Sony System App Editor Ver.1.1Installation
Please follow the instructions carefully, cause this is very crucial to the programs working.
Step 1
Download the following resources :
Android SDK (drawPatch9)
Java SE Runtime Environment 7 (Java)
Step 2
Go to Advanced System Properties.
It should look like this:
Go to Environment Variables, then create a new System Variable, having name JAVA_HOME and value according to the path where you have installed the JRE(7).
It should look like this:
Now after creating the JAVA_HOME variable, search for Path system variable in the System Variables list. Now this is a bit tricky. Once found click on it and then on Edit. Now if your value is ending with ";" (without quotes) then just add the path to your JRE(7) bin folder. If the ";" is not present then just add it and follow the rest of instruction as given.
It should look like this:
Now just Save it. (Just keep on clicking OK it will be done automatically.)
Step 3
Download Ver.1.1.zip.
[*] Download
[*] Size: 17.85 MB (18714229 bytes)
Now Extract the zip where ever you want in your computer.
Step 4
Open the folder in which you have extracted the files and then the res directory in it.
Now make sure that the folder looks like this -
If you want you can add your modified resource files too.Note: If you are using any other ROM or PHONE of Sony (This program might be compatible with all types of Phones and Roms though!), then you should over-write the already present resource files in the res directory with your own ROM or PHONE resource files. (This is important!)
Now open the program by executing - Sony System App Editor.bat, like this -
Then type LOADRESOURCES, and let the program install the required resources. Once done add your APK file to this program's directory and get started, cause you are all done!
It should look like this:
How to use?
Step 1
Make sure you have the original version of the system apk. (This is important cause in other situations I cannot guarantee it's working as I haven't tested it. ) Copy it to the program's main directory.
Now open the Program by executing - Sony System App Editor.bat, and type only the name of the System app.
For eg.: If you want to edit UxpNxtLockScreen.apk, then copy it to the main directory, and then by executing the program type UxpNxtLockScreen. (Notice no .apk!)
Now press Enter and let the program handle the rest.
Still it should look like this:
Now check for any errors in the Apktool output screen, if none found you are good to go or else I don't know what to do?...p)
If everything went fine it should look like this -
Step 2
Edit your APK to your carnal needs! But still make sure everything you do is syntactically correct and there are no erroneous codes.
For editing APK's go to the working folder of the program, and look for the folder that is named after the file-name of your System Apk.
It should look like this:
Now open it and start editing.
Step 3
Now assuming you have finished editing the System app, execute the main program once again - Sony System App Editor.bat.
Type the APK's file-name (no exts.) which you where editing, and press enter.
It should look like this:
Make sure everything goes right and check for any errors in the APKTOOL output screen, cause program at the current stage will still produce a build even if there is any error with apktool! (Will be solved soon.)
Now assuming you have checked everything and nothing is wrong, then you are good to go! And still it should look like this -
Step 4
Assuming that everything has been fine till now, so then you can have your APK file in the build folder of the Program's main directory.
It should look like this:
Now copy it to a place where you can create a flash-able zip out of it!
Note: If you want to start modification of the new apk file of the same name, first delete the folder in the working directory of the previous APK's file-name. (It's important.)
Condition of it's use
Please use this program at your own risk. It has only been tested to mod UxpNxtLockScreen.apk.
This program utilizes a technique that I learned while creating my first mods, and was not able to find a perfect tutorial.
The technique this program utilizes might not be applicable for all types of System Apps.
The program is just created by me today (23/9/13), so please bear with it's simple and non-wanting UI and features.
So start using it and start modding today! - Become a World-Class Developer! (................................)

I guess but I'm not sure cause there maybe some functions used in this program which might not be available in Fedora. I have developed it in Windows, so I think you can try out and tell me what happens. But as far as I'm know it my not work.

Disclaimer:
What you do with this information is up to you. If your device breaks while trying anything in here you do that at your own risc.
I cant be held responsible for anything that happens to your device.
Everything in here was tested on a Samsung Galaxy Tab3 10.1(5210) if you try anything in here on any other device thats up to you.
Most of the work is made by the Linux on Android team i have just tested and fixed some stuff.
The image is ext2, x86 but im working on a ext4, AMD64 image.
”Changelog”
1. Replaced lxde with KDE Plasma
2. Added entryś in etc/fstab for int/ext SdCards
3. Edited bootscript from the Linux on Android team so that the SdCards in the Tab is correcly mounted and works with fstab.
4. Installed "missing" packages to minimize errors.
Works:
Wifi
Battery indicator
Int/Ext SdCard
Most of the stuff in Ubuntu.
Issues:
Leftpanel is black
Slow startup, but can be fixed. I will add that later.
Some apps dont work if you start them as root.
Couldnt make jpg work as wallpaper so using png at the moment.
Rotation isnt setup since we cant use xrandr to rotate the screen..
Not tested:
GPS
ToDo
Streamline startup
Add init.d support on the Tab
Tweaking were ever possible.
Fix sound
Now for the fun stuff.
Installation:
1. Root your device. I used this Guide.
2. Install Busybox.
3. Install Linux on Android.
4. Install a VNC client of your shoice, i preferr Jump Desktop free.
5. Copy bootscript.sh to /data/data/com.zpwebsites.linuxonandroid/files/ overwrite the old file.
6. Unpack and Copy the t3buntuv1.2_20131216.img to a place of your choosing on either internal or external sdcard.
7. Make a Linux on Android widget and point it to the img file you copied in 6.
OBS !! This image is preconfigured with the user ubuntu and psw t3buntu..
8. Now click on the LOA widget you made in 7 and let linux ”bootup”
9. In your VNC client connect to localhost.
DONE ! Your now in Ubuntu..
If you want more screenspace you can uncomment
# service call activity 42 s16 com.android.systemui
In bootscript.sh this will remove the android panel. The problem with this at the moment is that to
get it back you have to restart the Tab becourse the ´am´ command to get it back ”Seg faults” on
my tab and i havnt figured out why yet.
Consider this image as alpha...
OBS !! The image file is BIG 1.4GB compressed and 4GB decompressed. Will try and make it smaller not sure how the Linux on Android team made there images so small...

Nice, but there are a few things...
The bootscript.sh contains one little, but crucial error.
At line 172, character 44, you forgot one space, which makes the mount procedure unusable:
Code:
$bbox mount -o bind /storage/extSdCard $mnt/extSdCard
Which should be:
Code:
$bbox mount -o bind /storage/extSdCard $mnt/extSdCard
Without this (for me) it failes while it's starting up.
And, another thing, my tablet reboots at the moment I have to run VNC to start the X server, even though I'm not doing or touching anything.
After reboot it doesn't start up t3buntu either.
But, very good work !!
And yes, I do have Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 GT-P5210...

Havnt noticed any problems here but i have added the space and updated the script since both versions works for me.

Does it reboot during script execution ? It do sound like a mem issue. Do you have widgets and such running in android ?
You can try with enabling the swapfile in bootscript.sh .
But, very good work !!
And yes, I do have Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 GT-P5210...
I've got the terminal up and running fine. But I can't VNC into it. What settings are you using for you VNC viewer?
How about native graphic support using libhybris? Or since this device use PowerVR SGX 544, is native X11 possible? Reference: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel_GMA3600

Hi, I posted a question in the Q&A forum (them 10 posts), but I guess it really belongs here.
Tried this on my TWRP rooted UANB4 stock rom P5210, stock kernel. And I get the following with your script and image:
Code:
[email protected]:/ $
[email protected]:/ $ cd /storage/extSdCard/Img
[email protected]:/storage/extSdCard/Img $ su
[email protected]:/storage/extSdCard/Img # sh /data/data/com.zpwebsites.linuxonandroid/files/bootscript.sh /storage/extSdCard/Img/t3buntuv1.2_20131216.img
Checking loop device... FOUND
mount: mounting /dev/block/loop255 on /data/local/mnt failed: Invalid argument
Error: Unable to mount the loop device!
1|[email protected]:/storage/extSdCard/Img #
Line : $bbox mount -t ext2 /dev/block/loop255 $mnt
Do I tell busybox to overwrite the mount command?
Otherwise, excellent work, cant wait till I have it running.
*EDIT*
Turns out I just had to copy the image again, I guess my first transfer got cut off.
Totally works, thx
hey. i noticed that the last update was in April of 2014. i was wondering if there was any updates on this.
