anyone have a good aim client?
great, now does anyone have a free aim client?
thanks
I've tried them all... I think AIM 2.0 is still the best one one (for AIM only).
IMO the best is Slick. It has the most features and is still free!
AIM 2.0 (UK version) if you want AIM only... its YEARS old now, but it runs just fine on the Titan.
If you want a multi-IM client, I use Palringo and I love it. I've tried just about every IM client available, and Palringo is my favorite, especially since it takes up minimal memory.
only problem with aim 2.0 is you cant see mobile users or see their text if they im you
Palringo can't see the icon when users are on mobile either, but you can see the user as being online. I wish we would have an IM program that can compare to other devices. we need something like the sidekick or jivetalk. With jivetalk and sk, you can see buddy icons and when users are mobile. I can only wait...
The biggest problem is that pretty much all the IM clients out there for Windows Mobile are relatively new. It will take some time for them to come out with new version that increase their capabilities, etc. There is no perfect mobile IM client out there right now.

i see...so far im liking slickim, also tried palringo for a bit and that seemed good too. loved the addvoice and addpicture functions.
both those programs were pretty much what i was looking for, so thanks alot everyone
can anybody tell me where to get aim 2.05.5
I've tried EVERY AIM client on the market, including AIM 2.0, IM+, and the VeriChat PPC beta. I just tried Palringo and I'm really surprised. It's very very nice. Give it a shot!
I have agile and I just tried Palringo. The picture function works fine on both. However, the Push to talk is a little better in agile b/c I dont have to download the talk. In agile, I can just click the link and i plays.
But, Palringo supports the little messages under your sn that the newer aims have. Agile doesn't b/c they haven't updated in awhile.
I just tried palringo and I'd still recommend agile messenger. Agile is more like the sidekick, and handles multiple conversations. Palringo only lets you talk with 1 person at a time unfortunately, and loses everything you said or was said to you when you switch to another person. I also like how Agile lets you have vibration or a custom sound when you receive a new message whereas palringo was a quiet "dink" sound with no vibration option. Palringo also seems to frequently disconnect claiming "You have been logging off and on too frequently" - according to its forums they have been having problems with AIM in particular for a few months. Palringo looks like one of the better looking free ones I've tried, but if you're willing to pay (and agile is unfortunately rather expensive, especially for phone software) agile seems better to me.
Palringo does look like something to keep an eye on though.
Looks like the new Trillian IM client is now available and is open beta. It has a expiration date until the end of the beta. Wanted to give you guys a heads up if anybody else was interested in this multi-IM client.

It's about time. By far the best messenger now, even in beta. Thanks for sharing... the jerks didnt bother to email me about it even though I subscribed to updates..

I tried it, it is not very good. I prefer ebuddy or IM+
On the contrary, it's a very solid app. Then again, I am unsure of your expectations for this app.
I love the app unfortunately after opening and having one conversation it refused to open any new conversations.
Thanks for the heads up. I always loved trillian on my pc.
I find it frustrating that this app doesn't tell me why aol won't sign in. is it my password, is it the network, wtf? Doesn't even give me a sign in failed alert. Im+ is the same way. It's been a while since I used im where I'm not auto-signed in and figuring out all my passwords is gonna take some work. Clearly these apps are not gonna make it easy.
Yeah. I had a really weird problem that it didn't log in, i had to close it THEN when I finally got in.. I couldn't even send a IM to anybody, and when I logged onto another s/n attempting to message myself, it never went thru unless I signed out and resigned back in.
The interface does look pretty nice though, definitely needs some working but this is a Beta so i didn't have expectations that it would be bug-free. Most definitely going to give Trillian another go when the next beta build is released.
One of the big perks with using Trillian for Android is it's integration with the desktop client. When you change something on your computer (add a friend, change a name, change a user group, etc.) it is automatically updated on the Android client. Also, they are adding synchronized logging to an upcoming build. That means the conversations you have while you are mobile will be transferred to the desktop client and all versions (Windows, Mac, iPhone, Blackberry, Android) will live in harmony without having your logs scattered all over the place.
The bigger bugs like connection issues, message sending issues and crashes will be hammered out pretty quickly so it should be much more stable in the very near future. If you do experience a crash you should be given the opportunity to send a log to the developers (please use it!). If you have a stomach for Bugzilla you can report the bugs and feature requests directly:
http://bugs.ceruleanstudios.com/
Login: beta
Pass: beta
On a side note... The Voice To Text option in conjunction with Trillian is pretty awesome. I was amazed at how fast and accurate Android's VTT is. It was even accurate while driving on the highway with a lot of background noise.
Hi!
I'm thinking about switching back from Android to WinMo 6.5 because in my opinion Sense + CHT2 is superior to any other homescreen and I miss it a lot. But I am not sure because there are a lot of things I think I'll miss. First of all the stability of Android. I have never had problems with things crashing or the need to restart the phone. Also I like that everything works good for me out of the box. Well, and here are my questions regarding WinMo:
- Is there a browser which works as good and fast as the stock android browser? For me it is important that I can view all web pages as they would be displayed on my computer (no mobile pages and such crap). Also flash support would be awesome.
- Does syncing gmail via ActiveSync support push mail and multiple gmail accounts?
- Is there a free alternative to the provided rss app?
The most important things for me are:
- stable system
- very good and fast browsing experience (with working flash)
- sync contacts and calendar with gmail (which syncs also with evolution on my pc)
I think I'm going to miss the facebook app from android because the WinMo one is really crap but I can live with that, I'm not a heavy fb user.
Thanks a lot in advance!

Ive always found Opera 9.7 to be better than any of the android browsers... except maybe Dolphin..
I can give you a cab to get rid of the default user agent and prevent it displaying sites in mobile view if you want. Unfortuneately flash support is not possible, there is a flash compatible browser called Uzard but its pretty buggy. I guess you could install it and just use when you need flash...
Not sure about syncing your contacts and calendar with gmail as I have never bothered but I have seen something around here about it.
CHT2.0 contains an RSS widget which links in with the stock RSS reader, Im not a heavy RSS user so I dont really know how it compares with the android equivalent but its fine for me.
As for a stable system........ cooked ROMS are the way to go.
Energy, Artemis, Duttys and Elegancia are all popular choices...
Ive just switched from Energy to Elegancia and its incredibly smooth and stable.
Remember, you can always keep an android build on your SD card and have the best of both worlds.
Hope that helps in some way.....

Yes, Opera 9.7 is a very good browser. Although on some websites it did not display everything correctly.
Well, flash is not a killer criteria but would be nice. You may not need it for months but when you need it one time and you can't...
RSS is important for me as I enjoy reading the news on my phone. I also use twitter a lot for news, so I love the twitter tab in sense
I used energy before switching to android and all at all I was pretty satisfied with it (although the dialer looks awful IMHO ). But sometimes you see WinMo behind the sense-curtain and some things lag or even crash and that is something I do not have with Android. Well, I think I'm gonna give it a try (I have a CWR backup for the worst case) and use parallel some SD builds of android.
Sharing that cab would be awesome! Thanks a lot! I know otherwise you have to do some registry tweaks...
Heres that cab for the user agent.
Also, if your a heavy twitter user you might want to try moTweets. Theres a free ad supported version, contains a few more features than the twitter tab.

Thanks
Thanks a lot! I already discovered this thread earlier (and I found a discussion somewhere else on the internet). And I think this alternative dialer is worth a try!
My priorities are Lotus Traveler, USB Tethering, and OpenVPN(need tun.ko compiled).
I've tried Das BAMF 1.8.6 and SynergyROM(7/1 build IIRC).
Lotus Traveler won't work with Synergy... So no go there.
Traveler and PdaNet work fine with Das BAMF, but no go with OpenVPN. It hits my first two priorities so I've stuck with it so far.
I'm under the impression Lotus Traveler will not work with any Gingerbread ROM that also has Sense...
Is anyone running any Gingerbread ROM that does have Traveler working?
Just assuming Gingerbread + Sense is a no go is there any ROM that works with MR2.5 that can support all 3 apps?
Wrong section.
Well this is technically the wrong section I will not be an asshat and answer your question. For openVPN to work the kernel needs the tun.ko module, which I believe is a flash able add on for the kernels, may be wrong though
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
Might want to look at OMFGB. It is an AOSP ROM with drod's kernel baked in. IIRC, his kernels have tun support. Not sure about Lotus Traveler, though.
Edit: CM7 has built-in USB and WiFi tethering, not sure about OMFGB.
Been looking into CM7 RC1.2 for TB. Im fine with getting fancywidgets or whatever other apps are needed.
Just need to know if Lotus Traveler is working on that rom... Haven't found an example of anyone trying yet. If I find the time I'll try.
Tried CM7 today. Lotus Traveler 8.5 works fine. Thanks to the person who PM'ed me saying he had tried it and it worked.
I installed CM7 and lotus traveler worked fine. I installed an HTC Sense based ROM and lotus notes cracked it up. apps crashed left right and center, not to mention the infamous security notification. CM7 is very light, too light for my taste for the phone dialer, just love the Sense' phone dialer but other than had no problem with CM7 to write home about. Long story short, if traveler is your lifeline, go CM7. If not, Sense has lots of goodies you will love though it will run your device memory pretty short.
No offense but why use the crappy Lotus Traveler app at all? Traveler works off active sync so you can set it up just like you would setup a normal exchange account on your phone (though you have to have the full address including the /servlet***** in the server URL). Your global address book look-ups still work with no issues and you don't have to deal with the craptastic IBM interface.
Hey everyone,
This one really has me stumped. My work is finally moving it's email from Exchange to Google Apps for Business, and for many reasons at first I couldn't be happier. I signed on as an early adopter and have now realized I've hit a huge snag. I can no longer get email notifications on my device without basically giving my employer nearly full control of my personal device. They are requiring the Google Apps Device Policy and forcing a 6 character password to unlock my device, encryption, and permission to remote wipe, among other things. I just really don't feel comfortable giving them that kind of control over my personal device but I do need immediate access to my email to stay on top of things since I'm out in the field way more often than I get a chance to sit in an office. The mobile Gmail site works well enough, but not as well as IMAP support with push notifications would. When we were on Outlook, their policy was essentially similar in that you couldn't bring your own device, but I was able to find a nice app called Outlook Web Mail for Outlook OWA Web Mail which essentially logs into the webmail site and was able to present it in a mobile format and even offer notifications.
I guess what I'm looking for at this point is something similar. I'm hoping someone can suggest an app that, as far as the server is concerned, is just checking the mail from the mobile website but is presenting it to me in an app that is able to give me notifications, even if it's on an interval and not push. Does anyone know if such an app exists for Google Apps for Business accounts or is even possible?
If not, then I guess the next thing I would be looking for is a hackier workaround that can convince the server that I'm abiding by all the rules and still allow me to do whatever I want with my device. I realize this is riskier as far as getting me into trouble but I am rooted and familiar with flashing, Xposed Modules and whatnot (I was surprised my device was even approved with my root status and custom rom).
So sorry for the dissertation but I wanted to lay the whole situation out. I found other threads about GADP but they were more talking about device compatibility rather than a workaround/bypass for it. Anyone gone through something similar at their job? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Worse come to worse, the mobile site isn't the worst thing in the world considering that Outlook mess we came from. Thanks in advance.

anyone?
Well is there any way to receive notifications from the mobile site? I think I recall a few years back when Google pulled sync support for iOS that some iPhone users had to do some shenanigans like this without push support and people used apps that were essentially browsers to check mail and provide notifications. Is there anything similar on Android? Or does it not exist since it's a niche concept? I just have a hard time believing I'm the only person with this problem.
If you want to just access emails, calendar, etc., try Touchdown. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nitrodesk.droid20.nitroid&hl=en
You will not use the gmail or google contacts/calendar app though.

That's for the reply. I'll give that a go. I've actually rigged it up so I still get notifications at this point through filters and auto forwards to my personal account. But something more native would be a lot better. Thanks again.
No further information on this thread?
I'm in the same situation with my company making the switch to google apps. They are enforcing encryption and non root'd phone. I have found that I can use IMAP to get my email, but my calendar is not found.
I have looked into just circumventing the checks....the only encryption solution i've found is some twrp/titanium back up so that you can at least easily recover systems after u've already been encrypted (not exactly a great solution).
As for the root access, ,the only solution i've found is with rootcloak (im not even sure if either of these solutions would actually work. I'm very much interested in a real solution.
Rootcloack didn't work for me, but that was 8 months ago. Try Touchdown, it's free for 30 days.
Try bluemail.

No luck for me. I appreciate the recommendation. I thought it was going to work when it went through my job's secure portal for setup but not such luck.
I'm looking for a way to do this as well.
I'm in a very similar situation and looking for the same workaround. Currently I'm able to use Edison Software's "Email" app to log in my corporate email account, but without the ability to receive notifications... which is a step better to endure the horrible mobile UI on gmail's website, but still would be better to have push notifications
Have you found any good alternative for gmail/hangouts/sheets without having to install "device policy"??

Nope. It just doesn't work on Android. They gave me an iPhone (I asked for a Pixel ) when I got a promotion last year, so now I just carry 2 phones. That said, I haven't rooted in a while so I don't know what's happening in that front anymore.
I don't think there's a way to do what I was trying to do before. Sorry folks.
Me too...

I'm sorry to hear that. My educational institution's unlimited-storage Google account seems like the perfect match for this phone, but draconian MDM is a non-starter. Hopefully someone in the community does find a workaround at some point!
I have the exact same problem. I got a new personal phone which I was hoping I would be able to use Gmail and Google Classroom on for school but the device policy manager deactivates a bunch of my settings when i try it. The accounts just don't work without the policy manager, from the internet or the app. Do you think that if I were to speak to the school about it that they would be able to remove it? or is it impossible from their end due to the privileges they need over the account for security etc?
Thanks for your help,
