[Q] Headphone Jack Issues - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Hi,
I received my YP-G70 (US 5.0 Version) in the mail today and I'm loving it so far. The only problem I have with it is that sound won't go through my headphones unless I have the plug in a "sweet zone." The plug can't be all the way inside of the jack or else there is no sound from the speakers and headphones. However, if I pull out the plug then put it in part of the way, the sound works. I should probably note I am using headphones that have a standard 3.5 mm plug (the included headphones have the same issue).
Does anyone else have this problem? How would I fix it? Do I have to send this back?
Thanks.
TL;DR: My headphones don't work unless they're plugged in perfectly and not all the way in. Why?

Send it back
You should probably return it.
If this is happening when you use different headphones is most likely a hardware issue, like a cold solder point.
You should send this back without hesitation.

I contacted Samsung to get that taken care of. Thanks.

I had the same problem, turns out that I didn't have the plug pushed in all the way. I gave it a really hard push and it popped in just a bit more and voila! It worked! Just try it before you bring it back... Let me know how it works, or doesn't...

Headphone jack issue!

I was wandering if anyone else had this problem? Every time I plug in to the Headphone jack my SD card unmounts. Has anyone else seen this?

I know right? Its a damn shame that the guys here will fix all the problems that HTC should have caught
As for the Microphone issue, I think that has to do with the actual software.
Ok, I figured out that the tip of my connector was bent and it was pushing against the SD card.

I can't figure that one out either.....anybody?

Mic not working
Guess I didn't know this was an issues since every phone I have ever owned (feature phones) with a headphone jack d/c the mic when you plug it in. I always just picked up a nice pair of headphones with a mic on them to answer calls.
Found that out the hard way too. Right in the middle of a busy street, on an important call. Can't wait for CM7 so I dont have to deal with a stupid feature like that...
Audio Jack has a loose connection
I found a different issue in that if you bump the headphone jack just right, it cuts out the audio altogether. I took my Thunderbolt to the store thinking I had a defective unit and I was able to duplicate with their floor models too. Sounds like a manufacturing defect. I tested several headsets that to eliminate that as the problem.

Can you reproduce the issue with the battery cover off? Wondering if maybe the headphones aren't seated right. Taking the cover off would give more room to make sure they are all the way in there. (That's the only way I could type that last sentance without it sounding pornographic)
Note: don't bump it too hard with the cover off. You may knock the battery out.
no i have not encountered this problem, and i use headphone jack everytime i go out
Yea that definitely is a defect! If you can't easily fix it without potentially causing damage, I would get a replacement
The Disabled Microphone issue is really annoying, I can't wait for a dev to fix it!
That's lame. Have you heard of anyone figuring out a workaround yet?
Anyone found or asked a ROM developer about the mic shutting down when a headset is connected?

[Q] Atrix thinks wired headset button is CONSTANTLY BEING PUSHED

Music plays fine out of the wired headset...it always has. The headset has functioned properly until about two weeks ago. At that time, my Atrix began to think that I was pressing the headset button. Constantly. Over and over. Any time the screen is on with the headset in, it redials automatically. When the screen is off, it does it too, because when I turn the screen on, it gives me the vlingo vs. voice command box. Also, when I make a call with the headset plugged in, the other person can somehow not hear me at all, until they call me back, and it's fine. The phone thinks the headset button is being pressed once every few seconds. THIS IS INCREDIBLY ANNOYING.
I know it's not the headset, because I've tried three different headsets (two by Motorola, both the 'official' wired headsets of the Atrix, and one third-party), all with the same result. Also, it's not just my phone! Oddly enough, I replaced my Atrix with AT&T's warranty, and THE NEW PHONE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.
Has anyone else experienced this, or have the slightest clue what is going on? I've looked around the internet for weeks now and I haven't seen a single instance of it. Pleeeeease. This is brutal.
My headset with mic and button does not have any issues. Its the bose MIE2 mobile phone headset.
Yes I have experienced this as well and it is super annoying I will prob swap it out and hope I don't get another messed up one. Sometimes when I am in my car and connected to my bluetooth handsfree it'll do the same thing and start a song playing and I don't even push anything!!! Hope someone figures this one out.
theres defo something funny about the atrix headphone jack and remote controls.
At first my nexus one remote worked fine with it, but it started doing funny things, then flat out would go crazy (issuing commands without me touching it etc.)
Gave up and went wireless, now I only use wired @ the gyma dn they're just dumb headphones w/out remote
ME TOO!!
Yes, yes, and yes on having this problem. I use my headphones (SkullCandy FMJ) sometimes when riding my bike and yesterday all I kept hearing was "please say a command...did you say...I'm sorry please try again" over and over...hard to deal with at 70MPH!!! Hope this gets fixed, I thought it was my headphones, but it sounds like another GB issue. I don't have any problems when using my SENA SMH10 Bluetooth inside the helmet.
I had this same problem, mine got randomly solved. You could find how the wiring world for the Atrix and block that connection or cut off the controller on the headphone and solder your headphones back together.

Thanks for the feedback, but a)I'm not looking to do any soldering or rewiring (I'm good with software mods, but not hardware mods), and b) it never happened until recently, then I swapped out the phone for a new Atrix, and it happened right off the bat - again with all three headsets. Tried a bluetooth, worked fine, no problem.
I tried a new headset (skull candy something-or-other) and it's been working so far, inexplicably.
I made a voodoo doll of my Atrix and poked it a bunch of times in its little voodoo headphone jack. Seems to have done the trick. I'd recommend that method.
I have this problem too with my headphones from my Sony x1, or x10. I cant remember which one. But as soon as I plug them in the phone goes nuts!
Which really sucks because they are they best headset/ headphones I have ever used for my funny shaped ears.
I think mine fixed after I dropped it and the headphones came out Anyways as long as its resolved that's awesome.

Anyone having the problem using the pure music widget, by any chance? Uninstalled that and hasn't happened since with any headset.

i also started to experience this issues. At first i thought it is kernel or ROM issue but then after multiple test and experiment it is the Atrix 3.5mm headset jack is the culprit. If im not mistaken it is due to pressure contact sensor inside headphone jack. Please anyone know how to rectify this kind of problem do post your solutions for us.TQ

You bike at 70MPH? Holy.
so no one found a real fix or solution for this problem? Maybe we need to make a petition and submit to motorola
I had the same problem with a BB9700. It ended up being a damaged headphone jack. I figure some crap from my pocket had been in the jack when I plugged in the head set. Which jammed everything into it wrecking the receiving end of things.
Luckily I had a spare housing which came with a new jack. I'm not sure if it's as easy to replace on the Atrix since I haven't had the opportunity to tear it apart yet.
Power amp has settings that fix my controls and it works great.

Still no one ever face this kind of problem?
Can anyone confirm that this could fix our problem? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301998
I have same problem too. But I have this problem on stock ROM and CM10.1 (with 3.1 kernel) ROM. I don't have this problem with any other ROM.

[Q] headphone issue

Received my rezound last week, and today I decided to go running with my rezound. Plugged in my headphones (Skullcandy) and noticed only my left headphone would work. I thought it could be the phones, so I plugged them into my fiancee's ipod and they worked perfectly. I tried switching roms to see if that would make a difference. It did not. Is it a fairly common issue? anyone else having this problem?
Thanks
Drew
If sound is coming from only one side then most likely one of the leads is not making contact. Ensure you pushed it in all the way. If still not working call Verizon for a replacement phone as its possible that the contacts in the headphone jack are messed up.
vzw sending me a replacement. Should be here today. Will see if its that or a deeper problem. Thanks

Just so you know, I have skullcandy earbuds and on mine, there's another 3.5mm jack up by the middle of the cord. This connection on my headphones causes an issue with different outputs. Speakers on my computer only put out to one bud, but if I mess with that jack and pull it out about halfway, I get both buds working.
Just make sure you 'isolate the fault' by using different headphones on your old phone, also. Could just be coincidence that when you plug your 'phones into your Rezound, they short out.

No auxiliary recognition!

Recently as of last night my audio jack on my phone wont work when i plug in my headphones or when i plug in my auxiliary cord from car.
It's like it doesn't recognize that i plug something into it because the audio still comes from the back of the speaker on my phone instead of transmitting through my headphones. Nothing happens at all when I plug them in.
I'm running the latest MIUI v4 release from the ported section.
All help is appreciated.
Try a q-tip and some alcohol to clean the port and use a small flashlight to see if you got a chunk of lint or something inside it.
If the port is clear, and alcohol does not help, sadly the port is borked, return to AT&T.
I'm not aware of any setting that might be off that would disable output, although I could certainly be wrong.
Did you change anything before this happened? New ROM? New Kernel, etc.
Nope. I was just using the newest MIUI with the stock kernel it has. It was working yesterday afternoon. All i did was charge it and then I noticed it stopped working after that. :/
Thanks your for help by the way

My guess would be a pin broke off inside the adapter on your phone, necessitating a warranty replacement. If alcohol did not help and you can't see anything in the hold blocking it, and music works on your phone it would appear to be a defective jack.
Miui seems to have broken headphone jacks on multiple different phones of mine, it could be a cause but I'm not sure. I just went and got mine replaced and didn't think about it.

Static in all audio?

I just recently received the white s3 for tmobile and I was wondering if anyone has this static noise in the music app, but I thought it was just my phone but it transfers into my head phones and makes the noise as well
Any fixes?

S3 for V here. Mine does the same thing, but the music app doesn't even have to be on. Ive already posted in the bugs thread about this and a few others say they haven't had any issues, so I feel its an isolated incident. I only get it when I plug in a TRS jack. When I plug in a TRRS jack, I hear no static. I'm going out on a limb here and going to guess that the sleeve could be bridging connections in the receptacle. But if that's the case, the hardware/drivers should be able to handle that as I haven't had any issue with my iphone and that was a TRRS receptacle, along with a host of many other phones.

I have the Verizon variant and I get this same static. For me it sounds like a crackling/popping sound. Having the screen on makes it worse. I even get it during turn by turn navigation and through my car's bluetooth audio.
Verizon and Samsung support have been worthless. There are no stores with replacement stock within 100 miles of me.
I have the same issue with my sprint gs3. I'm hoping it's just a software issue.
I had this issue for a minute on my Sprint S3, then I realized that I hadn't plugged the headphones in quite all the way. They looked like they were in, but there's a final little click. Solved my issue.
The issue we're talking about happens on the speaker phone, earphones and even audio through bluetooth

I got my replacement shipped to me in several days. If it were a software issue then there would've been more reports. Pretty sure it's a hardware issue. Replace it asap before your return period expires.

Well I followed your advise and unrooted the phone to get a replacement.they of course didn't have any in stock so it'll be there by Tuesday. The rep played music through a set of earphones he had and no further questions were asked. I just hope the replacement doesn't have a different issue like the ones I've read around here. Even my battery life has been spectacular.
I only have this happen to me when I'm charging the phone as well. Have you tried only having the audio cable plugged in?

I've tried everything I can think of. When it happens while the phone rings I guess there's noting else to do. I even rechecked after unrooting it,downloading the latest sprint update but it seems it's hardware related.
it's not only music playing apps but even others like tune in radio do it as well.
I just tried putting the music on the my external sd card and it doesn't do the popping there. when it reads it off the internal storage is when all the popping begins.
