I can not get any 3g signal at all, and there is no 3g signal in the status bar. I have no battery apps, and I have an unlimited data plan. Help?

check your setting in data/battery manager in settings. See if perfomance is checked under battery and in data make sure data saver is off and the checked boxes are first and third boxes
If both are there. Go to privacy ... chose factory reset. This will restore your phone to stock settings. Your apps u download from market will.be gone. Check the top to first. Chances are one is the problem. Also go into dialer and dial *22899 before factory reset and see if that works if other two are not the issue

I was wondering if there was an app to find out witch apps are trying to use data.
I live in BC Canada.
Data rates here are insane, so I don't have a data plan.
I have most things set to manual update.(so I can update off wifi)
My main issue is rogers likes to send me a text whenever my phone tries to use data, not so nice at 3 am, or whatever time..it's random.
I just want to know what I should do?
Any ideas?

You could disable data traffic in network settings. Mine still receives MMS, so you won't lose that. Or you could modify the APN settings
I'll give it a go.

Finally a good night sleep.

Originally I had it disabled.
I'm guessing I switched it on somewhere along the way.
I want data but wow does it ever cost ya here in canada.

I just installed Eclipse v6 Blurless (wipe data / cache x3) and I seem to be missing the check box option to enable data roaming. It usually is located in Settings-> Wireless & networks-> Mobile networks. All I see is "System select" in the Mobile network settings. I checked every other setting option and cannot find it.
Look under settings > data and battery manager > data delivery and check roaming. I looked in the same place you did. Lol.

Is there any work arounds to enabling roaming data without the data and battery manager?
FYI, Nitro just tweeted that he will add the battery and data manager back in the next version of eclipse.
Going abroad for 1st time with this phone, how do I completely switch off all data?
Every Android phone is different and this is no exception.
Do all I need to do is go into data manager and switch of in there?

You're using an XT910, so there's a dedicated data toggle widget that works just fine. Otherwise, yes, disable both data and data roaming in the Data Manager settings section.

That's not an option under Wireless & networks (on the XT910, at least). Moto moved it to its own 'Data Manager' section instead.

That's odd. It is grouped separately from the others, labelled 'Mobile Data Toggle' rather than 'Toggle: [something]' like the rest.

I was wondering 4G sometimes likes to not work sometimes. And I wanted to know if there was a way to turn ON 3G.
I am on a rooted Ics on the 214 kernel.

I know it works on stock ICS- no experience with Roms yet, though.
Some say you can download the Thunderbolt's 4G toggle app and that works fine.
Others, who want a native solution, dial *#*#4636#*#* which brings up some phone 'Testing' screen - click Phone Information - about halfway down that screen, change lte/cdma/evdo to cdma auto (prl)..
That's what I was told to do and have changed it back and forth with no I'll effects (that I can notice anyway haha)..
Hope this helps..

If you download LTE OnOFF (click here to go to Play Store) you can get to the screen without using the dialer combination
You can enter the number into a phone contact and then add a quick dial widget to the home screen.
Works just the same for those who don't want to go 3rd party if they don't have to.

I am assuming you can't download using your data plan?
Check your settings and see if you have a data limit checked on. This might stop you from using the data for apps etc . I think try enabling background data too. (Press menu in your data usage page for the options to tick) make sure you don't put a limit and enable mobile data

I would bet that you need to check (and change) your APN settings, if you aren't able to use mobile data properly.
Google for your provider's settings and enter them accordingly.
