thanks for help
only if someone makes OC modules for stock kernel
only with modules?
oh man no other way?
If you're in .62, how can you root?
After upgrading I lost root and aside from unlocking the bootloader, I don't see how to get it back.
pm me and i will write it to you how to root .62

By now, you can root your .62 firmware only if you have your bootloader unlocked, because you have to flash a custom kernel with .62 version rooted and with cwm.
No you can root is with locked bootloader.
You just need to flash a older kernel from se and root it like you have done it before.
Then flash back the .62 kernel and... Rooted with lockes bootloader

Hi, I have unlocked bootloader using official method on SE site and flashed custom kernel to get root privileges on my SK17i (firmware is stock .62...), so if I want to relock bootloader (I think I can manage this ) do I have to flash stock kernel also or it's enough just to have stock rom (with bl locked of course) to be able to update safely when official ICS comes out?
First you must flash stock kernel and then lock you bootloader cause custom kernel can't work with locked bootloaderYou can't update to ICS with custom kernel as far as i know.
ICS will definitely require stock firmware and kernel.
And yes, first install stock kernel, then relock bootloader.

No need to flash stock kernel separately... Just download stock firmware and flash it.. It includes the stock kernel... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30731936
Is there any .62 rom that can be flashed with stock fw .58?i rooted my lww and now i cant update it ota...please help me
any help?
Use PC companion or the sony Update service to update to 62...OTA with unlocked bootloader is not quite stable...
For SE Update Service : http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/
And you can use any custom rom with 58 rooted nd with CWM....no problem at all...
Well is your bootloader unlocked? If it is, just install any custom kernel that's root enabled and download and install a .62 ROM.
If your bootloader isn't unlocked, you shouldn't really be having any problems with OTA updating.
Thank you for your answer but I didn't unlock my bootloader and I just want to know is there any .62 rom that can be flashed with baseband 58

i am just confused with your question.
the title states "Custom rom that can be flashed with fw 58 on lww?"
then your question states:

if OTA does not work on your rooted .58,
you could try flashing another .58 firmware on your phone
for more information check out this thread and this one also.
i think what he ment was: is there a rom that doesn't required an unlock bootloader and based on fw58 or 62.
I been looking for the same but all the custom rooms required a custom kernel which almost mean an unlocked bootloader

@melander offtopic sorry! how is hybrom v16 and xkernel 4 working for you?
why you not update your FW to 62?
if your bootloader still locked, i think updating the phone via PCC or Update service is no problem even your phone already rooted
sorry for my bad english

its stable and has a good battery life,
Rooting your phone will not cause any problems with OTA updates to .62, you'll even get to keep root access.
Unlocking the bootloader *does* cause problems with OTA updates.
If all you did was root the phone and not unlock the bootloader it's safe to use OTA. It's what I did do get root on .62 since it was what my phone had when I bought it. Downgraded it to .42 (though .58 also works I couldn't find the ftf for it), root with zergrush and then update back to .62 using OTA. Went like a charm with zero issues.
Hope this helps!
I have WT19i and i have unlocked the bootloader official method. Now i flashed .58 firmware and now i wanna update to .62 but i have read somewhere that after unlocking bootloader if u update the phone gets brick.
So any solution?
If i flash .62 firmware directly then would i get root access too?
cause i have root access in .58

If you have stock kernel, just relock the bootloader. Making update directly from phone with unlocked bootloader causes brick indeed.
First relock the bootloader, then make update directly from the phone(3G or WiFi) to .62.
Relocking is written in my tutorial, check there if you need help how to do it.
If I relock bootloader, the process perform a wipe same as when I unlock via Sony Official Method ?
I want relock my bootloader, but with no wipe =D
(using stock kernel and stock .58FW)
Dont forget that wipe is best thing what you can do before upgrade to ics

I have Rage Kernel installed, so now what to do?

and one more thing, if i install custom rom then would i be able to upgrade to ics easily?

Your question is already answered, on the ICS stuff. Reload original firmware just to be sure prior update, always perform clean wipe when shifting ROMS so as to avoid un-pleasant experience and make most of it.
Hi guys...
Last week my xperia mini ST15i just updated to 4.1.B.0.587
I am going to root, unlock bootloader and install custom rom on my phone, but looks like there is no clear instruction on how to root it...
I did found some instruction though, but i am not sure which is good :
1) http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41119
2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568792 (Should I follow the method for 4.1.B.0.431 ?)
3) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923409
Which method i should follow?
And lastly, should I unlock the bootloader before root or after rooting?
Many thanks...
Look in my signature there's how to unlock bootloader.
You needn't root it before, but if I were you I would downgrade to gingerbread before unlocking bootloader, after that flash a prerooted kernel like rage kernel for gingerbread and your device will automaticly be rooted

Thanks for your reply... :good:
What the different if I root it straight from ICS?
Those prerooted kernel comes with CWM recovery right?

No there's no difference, do it on the software version you want.
Yes these prerooted kernels will root your device automaticly and cwm is built in the kernel

1. No difference. You'll just have ics firmware . You can just unlock your bootloader the official way while in ics and just like that flash a custom prerooted ics kernel .
2. And yes all custom kernels for our device has cwm .
No need to downgrade to ginger bread just for gaining root access if you are going to unlock bootloader!
hit thanks if I've helped!

I would use this method, but you need an .ftf of .587 for your device, if you have one, do it like explained there.
The kernel trick method is okay, too
I suggest you unlock your bootloader first by this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560613
(it directly unlocks bootloader without writing any commands)
And then install a prerooted kernel via the above mentioned toolkit...
Your will be rooted and then just flash the custom ROM
And the best part... You don't need to downgrade to GB

Hi,
I recently tried to root .62 LWW stock rom.
My unsuccessful attempts are recorded here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068238
Again today i tried to do it 2 times. Once with Flashtools and other time with SEUS (though it says i have the latest version on .58!).
I have unlocked BL so doing OTA on .58 rooted version = stops my device from turning on.
So i am just requesting whether someone could upload a rooted .62 stock rom for LWW version? IAlso i have tried rooting on my own using Knight45's article but it failed to boot :/
So now my only option is to get a .62 rooted rom and tweak it slowly on my own
It would be much appreciated for your support in this = )
Thank you
Download A Stock ROM (Check Stickies Thread) then Flash a Custom Kernel (You Had Unlocked your bootloader right? ) so you can get Root

Hi,
Little confused as this hasn't been mentioned before.
Are you saying, for me to get root on .62, all i have to do is:
Flash a stockof .62 rom to my LWW
Flash a custom Kernel i.e. rage kernal 3.0 or x-kernal?
and i shall have root?
And also, yes i have unlocked bootloader.
Custom kernal i was looking to use (will most likely use rage kernal):

Yep, Just Flash a Custom Kernel if you have Unlocked Bootloader and you will get root
