Friend of mine gave me a Droid Razr from Rogers to try and fix. Phone would constantly reboot, but not at a specific interval. This all happened while it was on stock firmware. No upgrade available from Rogers, so I couldn't try that, plus factory reset/wiping cache didn't work either. Friend said I should do whatever possible, so I flashed the "The Artic" ROM. Everything works perfectly. No reboot, nothing.
It is a Rogers phone, and I need to unlock it, and when I put in the microSIM from a different provider, nothing comes up asking for SIM unlock. When I go into phone status, everything says unknown, including the IMEI.
The baseband box says unknown as well.
Anything I can do?
When I try to go *#06# the box comes up for IMEI, but it doesn't have anything on it. Corrupt IMEI?
How long ago did he get the Razr I hope he didn't get the two I returned as defective? LOL.... The two I got the first one having this random shutdown issue for some strange reason it would just turn off by itself. I can't seem to track the problem down since it was factory reset and nothing install but still did this. The second one just completely turned itself off and wouldn't come back on. The third did the same as the first but I managed to send it to Motorola for repair and they reflashed it, seems ok so far. I'm wondering if the Rogers Firmware has something to do with this?
I have no idea how long ago he got it. His warranty was out though, so Rogers wouldn't take it back.
Either way, apparently I don't have an 'EFS' folder. I used Root Explorer to check and there is nothing there.
How would I go about fixing that?
The weird thing is I can use WIFI on it. I thought it stored the WIFI addresses in the EFS folder?
Or perhaps Motorola phones don't have EFS folders. Anyone?
Did a factory reset, no EFS folder.
Originally when I got the phone, before I flashed any kind of ROM I put in a foreign SIM card and the 'network unlock' box never came up.
I'm beginning to wonder if the EFS folder was gone to begin with.
Because I just checked again, and its not there. Not even after a factory reset.
Yeah, not sure what else I can do. Went back to stock 2.3.5 and installed after market radio, and both times it says unknown IMEI. I think this phone is pretty much hooped.

so i bought a used vibrant off of a guy i know. And it worked perfectly. After a few days the phone just stopped working when i tried to do a factory update. Now the error i get when i try to make a call is "network not available" and where my bars would be it shows a circle with a line through it. I have tried booting on flashed roms and i have tried putting on stock 2.1, i have even tried to put the unlock code in, but nothing works at all!!! tmobile has no clue about anything and just keeps telling me to hard reset or send it in for repair but i have no insurance and i cannot be without a phone!!! please help me asap. i have also tried to go to select network and nothing comes up at all it used to say att and tmobile now nothing?? i am clueless here?!?!?!?! everything else works on the phone just no network as in wifi, market place etc. and i know its not my sim as i just got a new one and tried in my friends vibrant and it worked!
You might need to add the APN manually maybe?
Where you went to search network goto access point names and click on tmobile
The APN should be : epc.tmobile.com
MMSC should be : http:/ /mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMC should be : 310
MNC should be : 260
APN type should be : Internet+MMS
Just a suggestion but you could always just odin back to a factory fresh install. Sounds like the OTA update that you installed hosed something. Are you getting any SIM errors or anything else?
if u can (via wifi or something) download Rom Manager from the market and click on "fix permissions".... see if that helps.
all the settings in the apn are corect as per what the values you typed should be, i have rom manager and tried the quick fix with the permissions, nada, and this is the strangest problem as my sim card is reading as all my sim contacts are showing...so i know the sim card slot is not the issue, and when i tried to flash back to stock using odin 2x now, it still leaves out the calling feature, i was thinking maybe it has to do with the modem in the phone and somehow it got deleted for good unless i reinstall it???

This might be the fix you need. Download JFD tar and 512 pit files. It is a stock build that should completely clean and reinstall all the correct files needed. When you flash into Odin3 make sure repartition is UNTICKED or it will not work! I've had plenty of issues in the past and JFD has resolved every last one of them. J16 helps, but not with everything. Probably because it's just an update file.

What do you mean by it didn't work? The JFD file did not flash successfully or it did flash successfully, but you are still not getting a network signal? If no network signal then I advise you call T-Mobile and tell them you are having gps issues and they should replace the phone as long as it's still under warranty. It's worth a try. The worst they can say is sorry your warranty is expired.

the flash worked as in it was successful but no network still comes up. i called tmobile but since i bought the phone originally not from tmobile they said bring it back to the person you bought it from. tmobile even resent the signal to my phone and i was on the phone for over and our with them doing the same thing over and over, but to no avail. before i throw this phone on ebay for parts.... any other ideas???
ask the guy you bought it from.

did you check if airplane mode was on. i had it sometimes hide in the menus but never said in the notifications
So I checked airplane mode and nothing. It wasn't on that so still no fix. And the guy I got it from said he didn't do anything but I think he bsing. Is there anyone in the new york area that thinks they can fix this. Even if for a little fee it might be worth it?? Let me know asap I need a phone.
i guess no one found a fix for this as i still have the phone and the repair shop i got it back form seems like they didnt know what to do at all, even changed out the sim card slot to no avail.

Does turning flight mode on then off let it come back online? The issue is a werid one, but has been popping up around the forums. I wish I had a concrete answer for you. When you Odin back to stock JFD firmware, it replaces the modem entirely and should set you back to how it came from the factory. If thats not working, I would go get my money back.
Could you fix your problem with the phone? I'm having the same problem here. The weird thing is that my phone is unlocked and it works with an AT&T sim card, when I try my T-mobile card, I can't make calls. I tried everything, flash back to stock with Odin, manual settings, Airplane mode off and on, around 10 different Roms, and a bunch other suggestions but I still can't make it work. Any help will be greatly appreciated.....

Did you check these settings under Mobile Networks--AccessPoint Names? Do you see T-Mobile US as the selection? If you do, make sure the settings are as described here.
Flashing to stock would have fixed any issues that were software related... sounds like you have a hardware problem. You should odin back to stock.... wipe data/factory reset.... then flash again just to be sure. I've had funky issues that this has helped in the past

Try flashing Eugene's froyo that does not brick, here it is, it might fix the problem. HERE it is, try it, maybe it will work.
I have "mobile networks not available" problem also.
I flashed theese roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1061889
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1021383
Problems are same for theese two problem.
1- There is no mobile network data. When i want to make call, it says, "mobile network not available".
I did the apn fix (set to default, reset etc.) No working.
I opened *#*#4636#*#* and do somethings explaning under "fixing network problems" threads.
Theese all not working.
I'm looking for help. This problem is not about sim card or operator(t-mobile etc.). Because a lot of people have same problem from all world. Every thidsd people using different gsm operators. So, fixing method with sim cards not working. This problem is about rom. Because, when downgrade to Android 2.1 or 2.2, there no problem. Please help.
2- Second problem is powering off it self every 15 minutes. All theese two roms have this problem. Not every time after 15 minutes. Sometimes after 10 minutes, sometimes after 40 minute (after boot).
2.1 and 2.2 also don't have this problem.
Please help.
There is a lot people on world using CyanogenMod. And they are flashing this rom with same method with rom manager.

Galaxy S II has no Network upon further inspection the phone doesn't display the Imei, bluetooth, wifi mac address.
Its not in flight mode, I restored to factory settings, tried couple of sims as well.
Is it a software issue or hardware issue??
Is likely flight mode. Press power button long and try the option flight mode or data connection.

Yea, this is the exact thing thats happened to me (Indian version).
Fresh out of the box phone, worked fine for the last 3-4 days.
Now I'm out on a vacation, and the network selection on roaming was flaky, I was toggling the network selection manually/automatically a few times to get some network, and the next thing I know I no longer have a IMEI (shows unknown) , and the same for baseband ( shows unknown) .
Tried factory resetting , etc, not helping. Will get back home and have the phone repaired/replaced.

This airplane mode sounds dangerous. Unfortunately it may be a necessity when you are travelling etc. Hope there is a known fix or one comes out soon. Until then I will keep my /efs partition backup in 3-datacenter redundant storage place along with my laptop and ext.hdd.
i just recieved an sgs2 in uk and it has this exact problem out of the box.
grrr
if anyone wants to point me to a stock rom for it i'll try flashing it
erm, i dont think flashing will help here.
I reckon that missing IMEI means the /efs partition has been wiped out/corrupted, and that is something which cannot be restored by a simple flash.
finally, after almost 12 days, lots of running around, I finally got my S2 working again.
The service center had to send the phone to their head office since they hadnt received any service info on the new model till then.
They changed the PBA apparently , and finally reflashed it and gave it to me.
They claimed that the flashing was an online process and samsung india service servers were down for nearly 2-3 days, accounting for the additional delay.
Just like my I9000, but I dont think it is the same problem and same way to solve.
I rooted the devise and deleted the nv_date.bin and the nv_data.md5 in EFS file with Root Explorer, and renamed the .nv_data.bak into nv_data.bin, then restart, problem solved
I have exactly the same problem as you guys are talking about. Really weird. The /efs directory, where is it located? Is it located in the main "Root" or is it in a specific folder? I would like to try the thing with the rename trick?

I have 2 Galaxy notes that have been stock since day 1 with no modifications other than sim unlock via code. I waited patiently till the official ICS release came out to do my first ever phone update using Kies. After the update, 1 is running perfectly and the other has a notification stating that the sim card is not valid, contact customer care. I swapped sim cards and got the same error. Both Sim cards on other phone working properly.Restarting phone didn't resolve the problem. After a few seconds to minutes from time of reboot (in which phone recognizes network and I can make phone calls normally), the same error occurs sometimes with the code in place of the Service Provider name (63081)? I tried factory reset using phone menu and it wiped it clean but still same error. I tried reinstalling the ICS firmware/rom update provided via KIES and I'm still getting the same error.
I researched this plenty and noticed that others have had similar problems with sony phones after ICS update with no resolution.
Any suggestions?
is rooting possible yet to try another rom?
Can I go back to GB though I don't have a backup?
It sounds like a bad modem flash.
Why not make a nandroid of the good phone and restore it on the bad phone.
Thanks for your reply. I resolved it. Even though I had tried a different sim from the same company for a nother number and it hadn't worked, I still decided to make a new sim for my number and that seemed to resolve the problem. Still odd as to why ICS update would do that.

Hi everyone,
Before you start saying to yourself "oh great, another idiot with a SIM error..." you should know that I've searched for hours and have not found anything like this. Actually, there was one guy that may have, but his thread was three posts long. At this point, I'm just desperate for help or ideas.
So to start, I had soft bricked my E970 and was trying to find my serial to download a KDZ file to recover. Since I didn't know that you could pull the ID strip through the SD slot at the time, I removed my back cover and battery to get to it. Didn't touch anything else while I was back there, so I'm doubtful that this is even relevant. Nevertheless, I eventually was able to recover my phone through LGNPST and moved on to root, unlock and install ROMs. Soon, I realized that my phone wouldn't read my SIM. It took me a while since I had the SIM pulled and in another phone while messing with this one. But then I realized that it wasn't necessarily that it wouldn't read my SIM, but I noticed through the little pop-ups that come when inserting/removing a sim that the phone actually thought I was removing it when inserting it, and inserting it when removing it. It had reversed the "sensing" mechanism somehow. At first, I thought it was my current ROM, so I changed to a completely different one. Same issue. Then I reverted to stock through LGNPST. Same issue. Complete factory hard reset. Same issue. So then I thought maybe it had something to do with removing the battery, like maybe I could trick the phone by inserting, removing the battery, then removing it. That didn't work either.
So please hit me with any and all ideas that could even be remotely possible. I'm willing to try anything. Oh, and yes, I've tried multiple SIMs. All of which are original micro sims - not cut.
Thank you all for any genius you can provide!!!
This seems more like a board(motherboard) problem.

THis might not help but if you are willing to try then maybe , you can read this :
There's one thing I might suggest you to try is to put the device in a complete Factory mode.
I.E. LGNPST the original firmware file , ( don not flash the stock zip , LGNPST the .tot file ).
Make sure device is unrooted and and locked. ( should be automatic once you follow step listed above,) .
Switch off the phone and put your sim card inside , then switch on the phone and see if that works.
Also you can try to tweak with the base-band settings in the device. Secret menu : 3845#*970#

and your phone is carrier unlocked or locked ?

Unfortunately, I've tried that. I used LGNPST to return to stock firmware (.tot/.bin) and inserted the sim while powered off. It still says no sim upon booting. Normally this would lead me to believe it's a hardware issue, but since I know I didn't damage or even touch the sim reader during this whole process, and I know that it was fine before, I can't bring myself to believe it is. And besides that, it's not that it's not reading my sim, it's just that it thinks I remove it when I insert it, so it doesn't even attempt to. I feel like that must be something software related. But I could be wrong...
Also, it is locked to AT&T, using an AT&T sim. Thanks
Still haven't found a solution. Any more ideas?
So.... I bought a TMO Tab 10.1 and being a habitual rom flasher and tweaker I proceded to root and flash xxxx onto it the first day. Life was wonderful and everything worked fine.
But..... being a flash addict I couldn't leave well enough alone. I wanted more. I found this thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1336659 ) and proceeded to attempt the appearingly simple task of unlocking the subsidy lock so I could throw my ATT sim in the tablet if I wanted to. Things went terribly wrong art this point.
I followed the instructions step by step and yet now I have no cellular connection at all. Everything else seems to be working fine though.
What I need from the geniuses here on XDA is some guidance on how to restore my cellular ability. I did copy over the EFS folder to another location so I do have an original back up, but I am unsure as to how that is supposed to help? I tried copying and replacing the hacked/ modified EFS folder with the original folder after I lost connection but it did not restore my connection.
What am I missing? Should I flash a new modem? Should I just Odin back to stock and start over? Will that recover my original EFS settings or am I hosed?
Any ideas or help would be appreciated immensely.
So in case anyone searches for this..... I used Odin and flashed back to the stock TMO 4.04 firmware that i got from sammobile.com. I got my signal bars back and seem to have a connection of some kind as my signal bars go up and down. I also threw in an ATT sim card and it didnt reject it or ask for a unlock code.
However.. and this is a big problem, I have that stupid generic IMEI number still. You know, the one that starts 004999 so now I have to fix that. TMO hates tablets with a generic IMEI number and doesnt seem to let them on their network. I do have a backup of my efs folder so it wont be impossible, just a hassle.
