Hi everyone,
Before you start saying to yourself "oh great, another idiot with a SIM error..." you should know that I've searched for hours and have not found anything like this. Actually, there was one guy that may have, but his thread was three posts long. At this point, I'm just desperate for help or ideas.
So to start, I had soft bricked my E970 and was trying to find my serial to download a KDZ file to recover. Since I didn't know that you could pull the ID strip through the SD slot at the time, I removed my back cover and battery to get to it. Didn't touch anything else while I was back there, so I'm doubtful that this is even relevant. Nevertheless, I eventually was able to recover my phone through LGNPST and moved on to root, unlock and install ROMs. Soon, I realized that my phone wouldn't read my SIM. It took me a while since I had the SIM pulled and in another phone while messing with this one. But then I realized that it wasn't necessarily that it wouldn't read my SIM, but I noticed through the little pop-ups that come when inserting/removing a sim that the phone actually thought I was removing it when inserting it, and inserting it when removing it. It had reversed the "sensing" mechanism somehow. At first, I thought it was my current ROM, so I changed to a completely different one. Same issue. Then I reverted to stock through LGNPST. Same issue. Complete factory hard reset. Same issue. So then I thought maybe it had something to do with removing the battery, like maybe I could trick the phone by inserting, removing the battery, then removing it. That didn't work either.
So please hit me with any and all ideas that could even be remotely possible. I'm willing to try anything. Oh, and yes, I've tried multiple SIMs. All of which are original micro sims - not cut.
Thank you all for any genius you can provide!!!
This seems more like a board(motherboard) problem.

THis might not help but if you are willing to try then maybe , you can read this :
There's one thing I might suggest you to try is to put the device in a complete Factory mode.
I.E. LGNPST the original firmware file , ( don not flash the stock zip , LGNPST the .tot file ).
Make sure device is unrooted and and locked. ( should be automatic once you follow step listed above,) .
Switch off the phone and put your sim card inside , then switch on the phone and see if that works.
Also you can try to tweak with the base-band settings in the device. Secret menu : 3845#*970#

Unfortunately, I've tried that. I used LGNPST to return to stock firmware (.tot/.bin) and inserted the sim while powered off. It still says no sim upon booting. Normally this would lead me to believe it's a hardware issue, but since I know I didn't damage or even touch the sim reader during this whole process, and I know that it was fine before, I can't bring myself to believe it is. And besides that, it's not that it's not reading my sim, it's just that it thinks I remove it when I insert it, so it doesn't even attempt to. I feel like that must be something software related. But I could be wrong...
Also, it is locked to AT&T, using an AT&T sim. Thanks
Still haven't found a solution. Any more ideas?

After around a half year of use,
today, the 13th of november afternoon, I lost my signal.
I can see the G symbol, but I cant see the bars for signal.
It says, no signal. I tried to change the band to gsm, I tried different radio roms, new mary rom v6, nothing helps. I even hard restarted the phone, without effect.
Can somebody help, advice? What went wrong?
If I search for networks, it finds all the UK networks.
Thanks a lot
Peter
SIM card still valid? No unpaid bills?
Have you tried another SIM card?
yes. the strange thing is, when I try to use the T-mobile sim, it works. if I try to use another o2 card, it doesnt. if I try to use my o2 card, which is not working in another mobile it is working..
like if o2 has blocked my phone, but not the sim. it is possible somehow?

My friend, I have no idea Try to flash everything again, CID unlock, hardspl, uspl, radio rom...
I tried new ROM - Mary, 2 radio roms and I did went across the unlocking process. what else can I do? what is cid unlocking?
thanks,
peter
I even tried to call o2, but they told me, as my mobile phone was bought on ebay, they can not check, if it is being blocked..
really silly.
and I am desperate..
Probably got a faulty SIM.
Some phones are locked to one provider's cards only. If you want to use another provider's SIM card, you'll need to unlock it. This is called CID unlock.
Locked phones will also not permit you to flash different ROMs - they stop at 99% and hang.
Since you can flash Mary ROM, then a likely cause is a faulty SIM card, or faulty SIM connector in the phone.
PS - make sure you use the appropriate radio for the appropriate ROM. Mary ROM cannot use radio higher than 1.64
OK. So the situation is as follows:
I have bought this phone on ebay and it was locked and branded to T-mobile. I unlocked it using the CID unlock code from this forum.
I put a new radio rom and about 2 ROMS. I was running the last rom for about 3 months. 2 days ago, all of a sudden, I lost my signal. The G symbol is still there and the phone does not say, the sim is not there, so I assume, that the contacts are ok. I tried other sims, 1 O2, and one TalkTalk. Both are not working. I tried a T-mobile sim and that is working. Is it possible, that T-mobile somehow relocked the phone remotely????
I tried to unlock it twice with the same procedure, but without success. What am I doing wrong? I am really desperate.
Thanks a lot,
Peter
It's unlikely that they could have relocked your phone remotely. I don't think that can even be done, as the "free" method of unlocking requieres patching parts of the flash, wich is not done "over the air".
But, they may have locked your phone, as if it was stolen, through IMEI. Is the seller on ebay still active? any compliants on his votes?
Anyway, for checking everything out...
Try this:
1. Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355730 and download "sspl-1.16-nike.zip" and "hardspl-1.15mfg-nike.zip"
Uncompress the ssp-1.16-nike.zip and copy it to the phone through activesync.
2. Run the program from the phone, it will show the tricolor screen.
3. Flash hardspl-1.15mfg-nike using customruu and wait until it reboots the phone.
4. Take the battery out, put it back in and press and hold camera and power button until it gets to the bootloader again (it should say hardspl 1.15 bla bla bla)
5. Download the unlocker from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395945
6. Download, for example, this modded radio (it doesn't specifically need this, but I had troubles with other radios, but none with this): http://www.4shared.com/file/52403515/681b77e5/RUU_Nike_Radio_1582123_25653004S_Modded.html
7. Flash that radio using customruu, and when the phone reboots take the battery out again, back in, and enter the bootloader again.
8. Now, go to step1 of the unlocker and flash the patched radio. Once it's done, the phone will reboot. Go back to the bootloader (battery out, in again, camera+power). Disable usb connection on activesync.
9. While in bootloader, take the usb cable out, wait some seconds, and put it back in.
10. Go to step2 of the unlocker and run it. If it needs more than 30 seconds to tell you that the phone is unlocked, something is possibly going wrong. In that case, disconnect it, take the battery out and in again, enter the bootloader again, pull in the usb cable, take it out, back in again, and retry step 2.
11. Once you get it unlocked, flash back the radio you downloaded before. Now it should be completely unlocked.
12. If it's not unlocked, the phone should say invalid sim when booting with another poviders' sim, but if it is, it should only ask for the pin and once enter, boot normally...
hope this helps!
PS: When you put the tmobile sim and gets signal.. does it let you call? only send sms? nothing at all? Normally, when a phone is blocked through imei, it can simply be rejected by the foreign network, or can stay connect but won't let you call, but let you send sms... could you check that also?
Hi!
Thanks for your post.
I have done everything again and nothing helped.
I went to T-Mobile, there they advice me to go to Vodafone and by vodafone I asked, if they can not check, if my phone was not blacklisted.
They put in the IMEI number and the system told me, that it WAS BLACLISTED
I called up the guy, which sold it to me from ebay He told me, he will check the number as well and he needs to go for another guy, which sold it to him and after that, he will give me hopefully the money back..
So, fingers cross and thanks for the help!
Peter
Hi Guys, hoping someone can help me here.
I know I have replied to another thread asking the same question, but I wanted to ask in my own post so I could detail exactly what I have done in the hope someone can point out to me what a complete idiot I have been and put me right.
I tried to upgrade my sons phone this week which was on MiniCM7-2.07. I followed all the instructions to unlock bootloader etc and all seemed to go well, I booted up into MiniCM7-2.15 successfully however there is no network coverage, and there hasnt been since. The phone was sim unlocked about a year ago but I cant remember if I got Orange to do it for me or I paid one of the various unlockers for the code. I know it was never hooked up to a separate machine (SETOOL?). I tried my original Orange SIM in it to see if that fixed it, but still no joy.
You are able to browse the various networks available as it searches for them and finds them, but when you choose a certain network it returns with an error that your SIM will not work with that network, or words to that effect.
If you take the SIM out you get a totally different error, so pretty sure the SIM carrier is working.
So, to rectify this I relocked the bootloader and used SEUS to go back to stock 2.1. This all worked fine apart from I still have no network. WIFI works fine, but no data or phone calls.
I have tried flashing other kernels, again with no joy, always the same problem.
What else can I try? I used to do mess around with linux so I know my way around console, is there a module in the kernel I could try swapping or changing? Surely there is something that is controlling that part of the phone that has been changed and isnt being changed back again? What does SEUS do, does it just restore the ROM or is it the kernel too?
Really hoping someone can help with this, as of this moment the x10mini is as good as a chocolate tea pot to me
Tony
Did you find a decision of your problem? I have the same problem, with the only difference that I never changed the ROM. I just rooted the phone with the SuperOneClick tool, and then tried to unlock the bootloader, but with no luck there. After completing all the steps in the tutorial with no problems during the process, it remained locked.
And I just realized after that, that the phone has the sim card problem, just as yours.
So any suggestions?
guys first of all let's try a test if you have an unlocked bootloader go ahead and flash the latest nAa Kernel (nAa-10) then from that kernel install MiniCM7 2.1.8 and tell me your results if it was negative you should reflash all Without locking the bootloader from SEUS via the Repair option therefore after this it should work as the SEUS restore all the software kernel and ROM to its original state from the manufacturer Sony Ericsson.
let me know what will happen with you.
Any feedback on this?
Thanks!

I have same problem but as someone tried to call me in the middle of the unlocking procedure the network went dead and I cant get it back.
Friend of mine gave me a Droid Razr from Rogers to try and fix. Phone would constantly reboot, but not at a specific interval. This all happened while it was on stock firmware. No upgrade available from Rogers, so I couldn't try that, plus factory reset/wiping cache didn't work either. Friend said I should do whatever possible, so I flashed the "The Artic" ROM. Everything works perfectly. No reboot, nothing.
It is a Rogers phone, and I need to unlock it, and when I put in the microSIM from a different provider, nothing comes up asking for SIM unlock. When I go into phone status, everything says unknown, including the IMEI.
The baseband box says unknown as well.
Anything I can do?
When I try to go *#06# the box comes up for IMEI, but it doesn't have anything on it. Corrupt IMEI?
How long ago did he get the Razr I hope he didn't get the two I returned as defective? LOL.... The two I got the first one having this random shutdown issue for some strange reason it would just turn off by itself. I can't seem to track the problem down since it was factory reset and nothing install but still did this. The second one just completely turned itself off and wouldn't come back on. The third did the same as the first but I managed to send it to Motorola for repair and they reflashed it, seems ok so far. I'm wondering if the Rogers Firmware has something to do with this?
I have no idea how long ago he got it. His warranty was out though, so Rogers wouldn't take it back.
Either way, apparently I don't have an 'EFS' folder. I used Root Explorer to check and there is nothing there.
How would I go about fixing that?
The weird thing is I can use WIFI on it. I thought it stored the WIFI addresses in the EFS folder?
Or perhaps Motorola phones don't have EFS folders. Anyone?
Did a factory reset, no EFS folder.
Originally when I got the phone, before I flashed any kind of ROM I put in a foreign SIM card and the 'network unlock' box never came up.
I'm beginning to wonder if the EFS folder was gone to begin with.
Because I just checked again, and its not there. Not even after a factory reset.
Yeah, not sure what else I can do. Went back to stock 2.3.5 and installed after market radio, and both times it says unknown IMEI. I think this phone is pretty much hooped.
Hi All,
I have an HTC Desire 601 phone that won't connect to a network service. This phone is a side project I've been working on. I replaced the screen and digitizer (the screen was shattered). I also unlocked the phone with a SIM unlock code.
Now, no matter what SIM card I input, it won't connect to a network. I've checked that the IMEI number is not blacklisted (it is not). It registers a sim card is inserted, but won't connect to a network -> I receive the error "SIM card doesn't allow a connection to this network"...every once in a while I'll also get a random "ME returned a temporary error".
I've attempted manually and automatically connecting to a network, but to no avail. I've manually input APN's for different providers, but still nothing. I've basically tried everything that was offered on XDA for other phones with a similar problem but didn't get any positive results.
The phone was previously locked to virgin mobile. I have a couple of theories as to what could be wrong but I'm not sure (I'm newbie when it comes to cell ware and its software, I just like to take things apart and put them back together etc.). One theory is that the unlocking wasn't complete in some form; not sure how though, considering it no longer asks me to input an unlocking code when i insert a different SIM card (i used a Koodo sim card). The other theory I had was the antenna, which I've read is often located in the SIM card slot (or in this case the frame), is damaged (the phone fell and had a shattered screen).
I no longer have a warranty on the phone, so I can't just send it back to replace (plus I like solving problems). I like XDA forums because they helped me flash my ROM on my samsung (after it completed a faulty upgrade and was stuck on download mode). I was wondering if anyone knows what I could do, from a software perspective, or if I should look into finding antenna replacement? (I don't think the sim card reader is broken as it registers a sim card is in there)
PS. sorry for the essay message, I just wanted to provide as much detail as possible

Before investing in some hardware, did you tried a factory reset? Maybe flashing a RUU to set back your phone to 100% stock (this doesn't remove the sim-unlock) could help. If the problem persist after flashing a RUU then yes its probably an hardware problem, its hard to tell what exactly.

I've definitely tried a factory reset, but that didn't work. I haven't flashed the RUU. To be honest, I"m not sure what the RUU is. Is it related to the ROM (I've flashed the ROM on another phone)?

A RUU will restore the original firmware and software on your phone like if it was brand new. If the problem persist after flashing a ruu, its most likely an hardware problem. I have posted a few RUU in the general section, maybe there is one that fit on your phone. Check link in my signature.

Ok, so I've looked for an RUU that matches my model (details below) but I can't find anything (I'm probably looking in the wrong place):
Android version: 4.4.2
Sense: 5.5
Software: 2.14.666.15
SDK APi: 5.69
Can I use an RUU that's close like the one below?(from your thread link)
2.14.666.3 (Bell Mobility) Android 4.4 Sense 5.5
Link: androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347841561.......etc.

This is already explained in the "important notes" section of that thread...
my phone HTC Desire 601 with IMEI : 990004284248766 has no Mobile Network or Network mode icon. How could I do?
Its been a long slog but ive got the os - I thought id open a new thread. I cant seem to register on the phone network. Its not the sim as ive tried another on (another provider) and that's the same and its also been a problem across all (even the stock images) that ive tried. Ive read on another thread is there a folder that I could have formatted which holds network or radio information....?
Just a thought....
Cheers.
ok - I believe its something to do with me imei number being forgotten....found a tool called the ARIZA patch but for some reason my cm13 build isn't rooted. Ive installed superuser but I still don't get root access (needed for ARIZA to work) I assumed the cm13 build would already be rooted....and idea's - I'm probably missing something...
Edit: just found the root slider - ariza patch doesn't work though - error is "phone not proper"

You could try this guide
Yep - looks like that's what happened - my imei number currently is that....well, at least I know now how to get it to a custom rom so ill have to reflash back to stock first - thanks for the link, that's a great help....ill report back in a bit...thanks again.
Nope - no luck so far....but that's definitely the problem.....lost the imei....ive never had the issue before - ive flashed mine loads of times (Note 3) and never had a problem so I never thought to back it up....if anyone has any other option I can try that'd be great....
Cheers
Ive followed the walkthrough but its not 100% clear - I might run through it a few times....
Supersu does not work on CM13, yet.
You need to turn on developer options in settings.
Well, all the stuff ive tried so far hasn't worked....I think id be looking at a manual entry (the imei is under the phone) so will try to find something along those lines....
I did try going back to a stock rom but seemed fruitless. ive gone back to cm13 as it seems the system is more open (obviously). It looks like the imei changer programs will work if xposed framework is installed....which I'm currently trying to work out how to do....easier said than done...
I think I'm done - I cant see any way of getting the imei back on there....think the phone has had it....my first loss...the xposed framework does not support the s2's architecture (that I can see)

I had a similar problem when I switched from ICS to JB, tree years ago. My phone would not register on any network no matter the SIM I put in (I tried 3 different operators). The only way I could solve it was with an apk called "Galaxy S2 Sim Unlock" - I had to work with that a little but after a little headache I could solve the problem. Since then, everything is ok - I can register on any network. My personal lesson from that experience is: "Never do a Factory Reset when upgrading Android (eg. ICS to JB, JB to KK, KK to LP and so on)." But that's only my experience. Now I'm on MM 6.0.1 (Cyanogen 13).
Ok- ill go take a look now....thanks for the link - I was hoping that someone could offer (something like this) so ive got another way of tackling it...cheers.
Edit - just gone looking and I cant see an app with the exact description....do you have the authors name (to narrow it down a little??)
Just to add this phone wasn't actually sim locked in the first place...are you saying that the side affect of using the sim unlocking software will insert the imei back in??

I bought my phone unlocked in 2011 - brand new, official release, so on.
I rooted it right away and started experimenting, installed tons of unofficial/official ROMs, playing with kernels, tweaking and everything, upgrading as soon as a new unofficial version would show up, from Stock Android 2.3.3 to... to X ... to Y... up to MM 6.0.1 (CM13) now.
I had few bricks over the time but I solved them in few hours to two days. But this problem with network registering was the longest of all and the scariest - it happened as I described it in the previous post. My understanding on that time (as I remember) was that the Factory Reset wiped my EFS.
That (Galaxy S2 Sim Unlock) apk gave me few codes I could use. Below is a note I made on those days (pretty confusing for me now, but it might help you):
-- Introducing "SIM network unlock PIN" didn't help me. I restart the phone and when it asked me the "SIM network unlock PIN", I introduced first the "Unfreeze code" but the network didn't unblock and then I introduced "SIM network unlock PIN" and the network unblocked."
As I searched now on Google Play I could not find "Galaxy S2 Sim Unlock" anymore. There is something called "GalaxSim Unlock" (by Spocky) - updated on december 2015, with support for Android 6.0.
Strange as mine I believe is the same as yours....unlocked generic phone. Ive not had any messages atall regarding "sim unlock" - my issue is theres a dummy imei in there - that's it although ill go and look now....any more information you have would be great...
Its the little things that help sometimes....I couldn't get the partitioning done atall then petrolcan mentioned a user and his script...then from that little bit of info I had a flashable zip that did everything for me...so everything helps.
I'm just not sure on the correlation between the sim unlock software and the imei missing....

Again, I'm not a specialist, but If I remember right, the EFS has to do with the IMEI, and on that time I have lost my EFS, and, I guess, my IMEI....
My S2 was usable (apks, games, wifi...) but not as a phone (for calling and receiving calls & SMS).
Or, you may want to try finding some ways of restoring EFS/IMEI....
yes, the efs folder holds the file which the imei is in (a bin file) but from what I read if you remove the efs folder completely the os will generate a new one....once you've got a new file then effectively you "should" be able to inject the imei into that thus renabling your phone (and therein lies the problem - getting the imeil back in) - yes, mines the same....everything works bar the phone access to the network...

Just guessing: Maybe "GalaxySim Unlock" injects the IMEI??? Check the description on Google Play:
"Detects errors like lost imei / serial in nv_data caused by third party apps"
You can give it a try with the free version - see what it founds on your phone.
I did try it....just gave me an nv_data error....nothing more than that...

I'll check about that tomorrow as I found few threads on XDA and I have to go now.... Hopefully you'll be "up and running" by the time I come back!
Heh - I hope so but I doubt it - spent about 5 hours Friday night, a good 12 yesterday and 12 the day before....any information you have would be great! thanks very much.
After looking around I think my best bet is the NV-items reader writer v1.0. but, I cant get it connected to the phone.....anyone got any clues on that one?? once connected it looks like you can edit the nv file and add the imei back in....
