Screen bobbing - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I just got my 5 th prime today, still has bleeding but i give up, cant be without it any more so ill keep it. Everything is working fine, updated to ics, everything still working fine. But then i opened youtube and It was glitchy like my last ones. But after watching a video and it was done, my screen started bobbing up and down. Everything on the screen would move about .5 in up and down twice a second. I tried ending YouTube and it did nothing, so i restarted and ran YouTube again and it seems ok.
Anyone have this issue yet?

Yeah it's a glitch. ICS is still new and needs the kinks worked out.
Enjoy your prime!

I had this happen only once. I think it was after first update to ICS or one of the later HC updates. I just rebooted the tablet n never seen it happen again. It looked just like you said or screen shifting. Then the home n back tabs looked like they were glitching..lol. everything has been great since. Never occurred again. Nothing to worry about unless it continues to occur. Sometimes bad apps cause issues if they not updated. Like Google earth was causing crashes, freezes, and even rebooting at first on the prime. Then Google updated it and it works fine now.

i've had this happen 2 or 3 times as well. In my case have been able to just lock the prime for 10 seconds or so, and when i unlock it its fine

I've used same solution for any apps that might freeze up or random browser freezes. ICS still needs kinks worked out and Asus needs to enable wifi direct, face unlock, and NFC as these are standard in ICS.

Unless the tablet has an NFC chip in it we won't get it, has to have the hardware to back it which to my knowledge it does not.

I'm also experiencing the bobbing, and its terrible! I just got the dock, and since then, the screen sporadically bobs... but when it starts, its almost continuously bobbing!
//edit, yeah its on youtube mostly.

Lol, I first read this as "blobbing". I have this issue too though. I noticed it only when connected to the dock and when the tablet was charging from the dock battery. Undocked and all was well, but it started when the tablet battery hit 70%.
Its almost always YouTube but today I saw the same effect for the first time on alive wallpaper...

Noticed this occurrence a couple of times during random YouTube browsing. It's definitely something (in theory) that a software patch can and will resolve.
ICS is still relatively new on the Android scene... so let's just be patient, whilst hoping for the best.

Have the screen bobbing too after watching youtube. Have to reboot to fix. Also have the problem of the physical keyboard not working when trying to enter a search in the youtube app.
Was this thing tested at all before it was launched?

Random Reboots after ICS-Try This!!!!!!

Hey everyone...
I'm kind of new here, and this is my first thread. I bought an ASUS Tranformer Prime and I love this thing. First thing I did as soon as I got it was update to ICS, so I have no reference if it was working prior to that, but I started getting random reboots yesterday (my first day of use).
BUT the only difference is that I got my first reboot when I installed Dophin Browser HD from the Market. I went on installing all the apps I wanted and was on the Prime all day yesterday, and the reboots started becoming more frequent last night. I think I got a total of 6-7 reboots all day yesterday, until I uninstalled Dolphin Browser last night. Ever since I have used the Prime with no reboots.
Hopefully today will be the same and no more reboots. I will keep you guys posted. It doesn't hurt to try this.
you have a lot to learn young padawan if you look at the 500 page thread on this issue you will see that it does not have anything to do with what software is installed primes brand new out of box upgraded to ics have had the lockup issue its a matter of time before yours locks up and reboots again it can be VERY random

problem happens on boot up and before OS loads too. has nothing to do with apps
yup, thats what happened to my wifes. On occassions the prime rebooted a few time while on the boot screen. And aftermarket live wallpapers made the main screen lag.
Sorry guys I thought maybe it would help some people out, but I haven't gotten a reboot ever since I removed that app. My problem and reboots are definitely not at startup, just in the middle of messing around on the net or the market. But it was rebooting every hour almost. Thanks for letting me know and I will keep watching for random reboots.

It's entirely possible that some people have been experiencing reboots because of Dolphin, but have automatically lumped themselves in with people experiencing the deeper problem of rebooting regardless of installed apps.
So, OP, thanks for mentioning this. It might very well help someone out.

No software would cause the prime to entirely reboot simply the application itself would crash and force close.

not entirely true. when my Epic 4g Touch freezes, if i keep tapping the screen or press the buttons, ill get a reboot. its almost like ive overloaded the cpu or ram? im not sure whats happening. but if i do nothing, it catches up and is fine. it rarely happens, but when it does, its when im reading/writing to storage (internal OR external SD). and i also know too that the prime has had less than desirable storage read/write performance. maybe hes downloading something or its caching a web page to memory? im not sure, but i do know it happens...
I just was talking with a friend of mine who had also gotten a prime over Christmas time. He said that in the beginning, he used to get reboots all the time... but it slowly stopped and finally doesn't reboot any more.
Mine typically reboots while media is playing or while I'm using the market. Sometimes it reboots while just navigating home screens..it's just so erratic. There's no way to predict it at all.

Defiantly erratic for me
Ive had reboots, in many different apps, sometimes a lock up then reboots, or just an instant reboot.
Yet sometimes I can be absolutely using it intensively for long periods, playing multiple games one after each other, browsing with multiple tabs... etc no reboot for hours.
Then i can just be scrolling through a simple menu and bam i get a reboot....

Not if there is a memory leak or something in the OS that is exploited by a certain app (obv not on purpose but exacerbated by the app) causing the OS to fail.
Got like 3 Reboots so far since .21 ... all 3 while playing video... 2x TED Talk app, and MX Player yesterday... both times after switching out of the a playing video and switching back to the app... the app can't resume the playback... hangs and reboots...
no other situations so far.

Same here, I get typically get two reboots a day like clockwork and they come while playing video. I will see the video play in some sort of loop while the audio is just fine and then it will freeze and reboot. Or if I'm able to exit out of the app then will freeze and reboot. Not really a big deal yet, as ICS loads pretty fast. Outside of that and weak wifi this is a great tablet.
I just got my first reboot couple days ago. It was while I was watching video on YouTube. My video started sluttering and artifacting....thought it was the uploaded video then tried to reloaded it-it did the same thing-sluttering and artifacting and it rebooted itself. It almost looks like driver issue to me. I hope it is fixed in the future updates.

I believe the Ted reboot problem is with the app itself, and you're not the first to experience it.

Random reboot with .15 update, am I the only one?

After updating this morning to .15, I just got the random reboot since before the .13 update. Using ICS+ browser.
Am I the only one? This sucks. Gary Key, I've already sent you a PM.
Please don't fill this thread stating .15 is working perfectly for you. I already know it is working well for most people.
How many reboots?
In over 48 hours I have had only 1 reboot and I believe it was my fault. I was using the stock browser and was trying to do too much at once and not letting it catch up.
If your having multiple reboots that is a different story.
Just one thus far. How can any reboot be "your fault"?

Really guy, you created a thread because of one reboot??? An issue would be if you had constant reboots, not just one. Every tablet I have owned rebooted now an then, it happens. Now lets see all the 'me toos' pop up now.
after the update gta3 doesnt work for me anymore anyone has the same issue. I clear data then uninstall and reinstall the apk nothing. It will work all the way up until the load is almost finish and it gets stuck on the load screen. Freaking A
update: now Age of Zombies lets me play for a while and then its goes black and restarts the game. WTF before the update it did not do this!
Going to restart the tablet and hope this fixes whatever is going on
update 2: looks like that solved it thank god,
so guys basic troubleshooting restart your devices and see if the problem continues

That's very good advice, you should always reboot after an update.
My prime started restarting when i had my xbox dongle in the USB slot today. Had about 5 reboots today. Never had a reboot before(well probably once every three/month).
One restart isnt something to be concerned about.
I have had one reboot since receiving the update yesterday.

I disagree, reboots are NOT normal, I had the Xoom since the day it was released till two weeks ago, and never had spontaneous reboots like the Prime does(I also had no issues with the Galaxy Tab, and the HTC Flyer.) App crashes, Apps not working till reboot are one thing but I am getting reboots on .15 when even trying to run Market updates. I have hard reset and had the market reload my apps and the problem came back the very next day. I just returned my unit to Frys since it was my last day in my return window. I also had a problem with the covers on the USB cable sliding off and if I plugged the charger upside-down I would get a slight shock from the back of the Prime.
They did not have any in stock to exchange, which might have been a blessing. I am going to wait and see how future shakes out before trying again.
My theory(unscientific) is the the Prime is using very slow NAND Flash memory for storage. I had the 64gb version and when writing to the storage it seems to take a lot longer than the Xoom. If I had 6 or 7 market updates on the Xoom it would take 30 to 40 seconds to download and install, the Prime would take 2 to 3 minutes(if it did not reboot itself before completing.). I would constantly get the Wait/Cancel prompt on the stock browser when a website was almost done loading, and writing cache to the NAND Flash.

Lockups and reboots are no different then a BSOD on a PC its 100% not normal and or acceptable.

I agree, while my desktop PC seems to average between 5 - 10 a year, my blackberry playbook has had none so devices that don't randomly reboot are possible to make. In truth, though I love the Prime it has had the most random reboots of any device I have.

My two year old PC has never had reboots, in applicaion crash on occasion. I think the key is the stability and quality of the components being used, and in this case ASUS is cutting corners to keep the price low. Look at the threads with peoples screens lifiting and dust under the screens.
Don't get me wrong, I like the Prime and I will probably get another when some of the issues get sorted out.

Its because of the Tegra3 i wouldnt call it cutting corners exactly however their quality control has been pretty terrible with the Primes.
I agree. Reboots are not normal. I have never had a single reboot on my desktop that I built or my laptop. The only time my phone has ever rebooted was due to a known issue with an ota, which is fixed. I NEVER had a reboot with my prime until. 15.

I am experiencing lots of reboots
I was watching a flash video in the browser when this started. The tablet kept on rebooting itself over 15 times in a row....i had to use a paper clip in order to reset it. tablet has about 15% of charge left when this started. I am not sure if it related. This issue never occurred until this last .15 update. Also i noticed now they have the application not responding dialog box appears when an application hangs "IMBD", however after you hit kill the application it doesn't do anything and the tablet reboot itself withing 10 sec. ASUS when are you going to be able to fix this?
No reboot so far for five days.

So what I really don't get is the incredible mix of results in the field to updates. I realize that there are infinite variables as far as installed software, system settings, environmental conditions (Temp, WiFi signal, router type, etc.) but from my observations, including results with my 2 TFP's and the posted results, it appears that:
For every new FW roll out, the following things will happen. 100% of the time:
1. Your WiFi Signal strength and throughput will get better
2. Or it will get worse - # of affected units vary, but we can tell exactly, just by estimating (LOL) Seems to affect roughly 50% of units in the field.
3. Your WiFi + Bluetooth streaming will get better (Unless it gets worse, which happens on half of the units affected bt the update.
4. It will stay the same. Exactly. This seems to NOT be affected by whether you had ****ty WiFi or Great WiFi.
5. Your GPS will come back after losing it in the last update. Or it will go away, if you got it back on the last update. Or it will stay the same, which is to say, it STILL works like ****, even if you can, for 9 seconds lock onto 14 out of 18.
I mean, Asus has ASSURED us that there are NO rolling hardware revisions. Even though a Support MANAGER, high enough up the food chain to have some real power told me my 2nd Prime "Had the new Hardware" Then again, he told my the GPS - THAT THEY TESTED ON THIS UNIT would be at LEAST as good as my TF101 was. (It isn't)
Why WOULD Asus admit new hardware was in place, even if it was? With the returns they are getting on these (less than 1%... ih, shuuure) could you picture the run on returns when folks caught wind of new hardware? For each Serial # revision, we see a slew of "Anything different?" questions. Picture someone saying, oh yeah: Wifi is off the charts, and the added 5 Ghz radio, and GPS works! It would be a feeding frenzy/bloodbath for folks to get the "NEW" ones..
Ahh well, all this is old news, been said time and again. Also when new users hit these forums, I kind of feel sorry for them, knowing the same old crew is gonna pounce on them with their positions and tell the poor noob what to love, what to hate, why the Prime is the best device ever since the dawn of time / worst POS that anyone ever sold... Man, I hope they are made out of taffy, cause they are in for some MAJOR being pulled in dif. directions.
Okay then. /Rant over
I understand completely what you are ranting about, but buggy wifi, bluetooth, gps doesn't really bother me. What I'm wondering about is less about hardware specs and more about these random reboots i got after the .19 update. Just wondering if anyone knows an effective fix...
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium
Okay, this should fix you up.
So, .19 - Thats obviously not US. Is the .21 we received here in USA available to you? If not and you are on the latest available FW, do what I did when .15 gave me issues: Roll back your FW. Using the instructions in this thread, you can roll back to whatever FW was trouble free for you. As I said, ALL versions were okay for me with mixed success but no major bugs like reboots.
Note you WILL need to root to roll back, but then you can choose to root again or stay unrooted. If you need a quick, easy root, use the Sparky Root apk that doesn't even require a PC to root!
Install any version (ICS, Honeycomb, change SKUs) to your Transformer Prime:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492887
EDIT: LOL - I just noticed you DID the .21 update, but you said .19 in your post, probably thinking about what it was predicted to be for weeks before they actually rolled it at .21
yeah sorry... it was the previous one before .21. Just assumed it was .19 . okay yeah i am rooted and in the U.S. with .21 thought there might have been an easier fix where i could be on the current version but i guess not. It hasn't rebooted lately, maybe it just needed time to settle. Thanks for your help!

reboots steps found
Hi,
I have managed to reproduce random reboots on my unit.
I'm running a TW unit on .21
1. Install TED from market place
2. Play any video, the one I used is Lucy McRae: How can technology transform the human body?
3. Pause the video
4. Wait for 5 minutes. I set my Transformer screen timeout to be 2 minutes
5. Press power again to activate the device and try to resume the video
6. 8 out of 10 times, my transformer will hang and reboot
Can anyone confirm this any other .21? Thank you!
I got a few random reboots after the update, but now they don't really happen from what I've noticed.
1. Backed up my app using the built in app backup tool
2. Factory reset
3. Installed TED and tried to play the same video, no hangs/reboots now
4. Tried to restore apps, tells me FAILED?!!?!?
-.-"
5. To restore all apps and try TED again.
Mine has been working fine since i got it up to the latest update wifi is strong and gps locks(not that i really use it).
There is actually a known issue with the TED app. They will need to update the app to resolve the issue on our primes.
It happens not only with TED but almost all other video players too. As long as I put it to sleep, once I try to resume the video, it hangs n reboots. It drove me nuts.
But I did a factory reset today (refer to the earlier post), and I haven't been reproduce the problem again. I will monitor for the next 7 days.
In the past 7 days, I had 3 reboots, all video related. From TED to DicePlayer etc.
I also do alot of surfing and run some apps, these do not encounter reboots.

Angry Birds locks up after OTA update

Looks like I'm not alone either. Well, the only other person I know with an Evo 4G LTE experiences the exact same thing, at least.
You can play for about 10-15 seconds before the screen freezes. The background audio that plays during gameplay still can be heard, but the game is locked up.
It happens on all versions of the game even after uninstalling, restarting, and reinstalling.
Anyone else?
Quite curious.
Thanks
Works fine for me

Strange... It doesn't work for us at all.
I don't have the wife app so I can't relate to the second part.
have you tryed rebooting the phone. my tablet has had this happen before with netflix and a reboot fixed it.
I just tried mine, and it seems to work OK. I just updated yesterday. I rebooted after the update so maybe that's why?!? Not sure. I believe there was an Angry birds app update that came through after the OTA update, but I could be speaking out my hind end.
I have the wife app, and she seems to be running stable so far today. This is always subject to change though
This is annoying enough that it moved me to backup my shizzle and completely wipe my device.
I did a factory reset and had it wipe out my SD card and phone storage both.
I got the phone back up and running, installed Angry Birds again.
Locked up 10 seconds into playing.
My friend and I continue to have the same issue.
Any ideas?
The stock browser keeps crashing on me too. The screen just goes white and nothing loads. This never happened before the OTA update. Also the youtube app gets stuck on a black screen. It's happened twice and I've had to reset my phone to fix it. It hasn't done it in awhile but it just sucks because it never did it before the update.

Same with me and stock browser
Not only am I having the browser issue I'm also getting a white screen for Gmail and Google maps and also have Google wallet not want to open. I've been having to reset my phone almost 2 times a day from these issues. Never happened at all before the ota update.

Juan...I forgot to mention Gmail in my post but I'm also getting a white screen upon opening gmail. A reset always fixes that but it's super annoying.
I have narrowed it down to only Google apps and the stock browser I can access all apps when it acts up with the white screens but it's weird that it started doing this after the ota update.

Possible solution for crashes.(disable Force 2D GPU)

I think we are all having nightmares with these random reboots/crashes. Some people say that they get these problems only with browsers but many of us get random reboots or system crashes doing random stuff like uninstalling an app.
I thought maybe it's one of the dev options so I tried disabling Force 2D GPU option and I have not have any problems since. I want people to try this and see if you still get any reboots or crashes. The solution could be easier than we thought.
Mine has been disabled for a few days, but still getting the random reboots/ freezes.
Every time mine resets once it comes back on it starts updating apps. Not sure if that happens to everybody else. Or if it is even related.
Mine had restarted a couple of times while using chrome. Once while in gallery. Other than that it's been really smooth sailing. It never started updating apps after a restart though, possibly timing? However you did say it has happened a few times so not sure.
Had a random reboot the first time I turned it on with the original software version but haven't had a reboot since. Not sure what the reason was to begin with but seems to have been resolved with software update

Hasn't happened to me with the few resets I've had.
Finally happened to me 2x today after updating to 4.2.1. Had 4.2 the first 2 days I had the tablet and didnt have reboots. My reboot happened while playing Nova 3 and NFS Most wanted. Game froze and speaker gave a buzzing sound for 5-10 seconds then rebooted.

Every time mine resets once it comes back on it starts updating apps. Not sure if that happens to everybody else. Or if it is even related.

+1 Mine has only restarted a couple of times, but it always updates at least 2 apps after restarting.

I think the updating apps might just be a play store check right after boot. If you know an app to be updated but haven't checked play store, try resetting your device, you might see it do that same thing.
Of course, I might be wrong, mine froze twice after finishing installing an app (dropbox the first time and a game the second)
I am suddenly getting a bunch of reboots and I really can't understand how or why. I can not uninstall any program else it will reboot instantly. is there any solution?
I don't get why people are still posting random solutions with placebo effects. It's been found using logs from crashes that it's due to the location services. That's why people initially thought it was HD Widgets, because they use location services for weather. That's why it still happens after a factory reset...
So do you have a solution ?

I seem to have issues when using Google products. I do NOT use chrome. An example, earlier tonight setting up a different Google wallet account my N10 froze and rebooted again. It was doing well for a while. (no chrome, no background sync in currents, no HD widgets) until 3 days ago. Now I am getting about one a day. Makes me mad, because it ran well for about 2 1/2 weeks. I haven't done anything out of the ordinary since then. I have had it set up the way I like since I got it on the 21st of Nov. (Lucky to get one on opening day 32gb.) I will have just shut off force rendering in developer options. I will post back here in a few days to report my findings. I hope this is a fix!! I believe it may be that, I did enact FR a bit ago but not sure when...
freezing and rebooting
I've tried everything and still keep getting the random reboots and yesterday my table started freezing a lot wasn't having that problem before it's frustrating
this was my first Nexus device and will be my last i sold my samsung galaxy tab 10.1 for this one and it's been nothing but headaches i've already replaced two tabs and i'm on my third becasue google keeps telling me to replace the unit and i asked them about a fix and tech support told me they were not aware of any issues can you believe that BS i'm very dissappointed with this device Samsung built a great tab for google and google messed it up. I really don't know if i can wait for a software fix. Feel like taking the tab and smashing it.
Uninstall Facebook you guys
I've no crashes with paranoid android and that manta kernel (plus, i'm overclock and undervolted)
Location is totally disabled for me.. Don't need it anyways..
No crashes.. I could show a weeks worth of on time if I wanted to

I just had a crash while playing Chaos Rings. The device buzzed and five seconds later rebooted. I crash two or three times a day, usually in the browser.
