increased random reboots on .21 - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I know some other people were having this problem a couple of ota's back, but the random reboots are increasingly happening. Anyone else having this problem on .21? Any known fixes? Thanks for any support/help

So what I really don't get is the incredible mix of results in the field to updates. I realize that there are infinite variables as far as installed software, system settings, environmental conditions (Temp, WiFi signal, router type, etc.) but from my observations, including results with my 2 TFP's and the posted results, it appears that:
For every new FW roll out, the following things will happen. 100% of the time:
1. Your WiFi Signal strength and throughput will get better
2. Or it will get worse - # of affected units vary, but we can tell exactly, just by estimating (LOL) Seems to affect roughly 50% of units in the field.
3. Your WiFi + Bluetooth streaming will get better (Unless it gets worse, which happens on half of the units affected bt the update.
4. It will stay the same. Exactly. This seems to NOT be affected by whether you had ****ty WiFi or Great WiFi.
5. Your GPS will come back after losing it in the last update. Or it will go away, if you got it back on the last update. Or it will stay the same, which is to say, it STILL works like ****, even if you can, for 9 seconds lock onto 14 out of 18.
I mean, Asus has ASSURED us that there are NO rolling hardware revisions. Even though a Support MANAGER, high enough up the food chain to have some real power told me my 2nd Prime "Had the new Hardware" Then again, he told my the GPS - THAT THEY TESTED ON THIS UNIT would be at LEAST as good as my TF101 was. (It isn't)
Why WOULD Asus admit new hardware was in place, even if it was? With the returns they are getting on these (less than 1%... ih, shuuure) could you picture the run on returns when folks caught wind of new hardware? For each Serial # revision, we see a slew of "Anything different?" questions. Picture someone saying, oh yeah: Wifi is off the charts, and the added 5 Ghz radio, and GPS works! It would be a feeding frenzy/bloodbath for folks to get the "NEW" ones..
Ahh well, all this is old news, been said time and again. Also when new users hit these forums, I kind of feel sorry for them, knowing the same old crew is gonna pounce on them with their positions and tell the poor noob what to love, what to hate, why the Prime is the best device ever since the dawn of time / worst POS that anyone ever sold... Man, I hope they are made out of taffy, cause they are in for some MAJOR being pulled in dif. directions.
Okay then. /Rant over

I understand completely what you are ranting about, but buggy wifi, bluetooth, gps doesn't really bother me. What I'm wondering about is less about hardware specs and more about these random reboots i got after the .19 update. Just wondering if anyone knows an effective fix...
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium

Okay, this should fix you up.
So, .19 - Thats obviously not US. Is the .21 we received here in USA available to you? If not and you are on the latest available FW, do what I did when .15 gave me issues: Roll back your FW. Using the instructions in this thread, you can roll back to whatever FW was trouble free for you. As I said, ALL versions were okay for me with mixed success but no major bugs like reboots.
Note you WILL need to root to roll back, but then you can choose to root again or stay unrooted. If you need a quick, easy root, use the Sparky Root apk that doesn't even require a PC to root!
Install any version (ICS, Honeycomb, change SKUs) to your Transformer Prime:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492887
EDIT: LOL - I just noticed you DID the .21 update, but you said .19 in your post, probably thinking about what it was predicted to be for weeks before they actually rolled it at .21

yeah sorry... it was the previous one before .21. Just assumed it was .19 . okay yeah i am rooted and in the U.S. with .21 thought there might have been an easier fix where i could be on the current version but i guess not. It hasn't rebooted lately, maybe it just needed time to settle. Thanks for your help!

reboots steps found
Hi,
I have managed to reproduce random reboots on my unit.
I'm running a TW unit on .21
1. Install TED from market place
2. Play any video, the one I used is Lucy McRae: How can technology transform the human body?
3. Pause the video
4. Wait for 5 minutes. I set my Transformer screen timeout to be 2 minutes
5. Press power again to activate the device and try to resume the video
6. 8 out of 10 times, my transformer will hang and reboot
Can anyone confirm this any other .21? Thank you!

I got a few random reboots after the update, but now they don't really happen from what I've noticed.

1. Backed up my app using the built in app backup tool
2. Factory reset
3. Installed TED and tried to play the same video, no hangs/reboots now
4. Tried to restore apps, tells me FAILED?!!?!?
-.-"
5. To restore all apps and try TED again.

Mine has been working fine since i got it up to the latest update wifi is strong and gps locks(not that i really use it).

There is actually a known issue with the TED app. They will need to update the app to resolve the issue on our primes.

It happens not only with TED but almost all other video players too. As long as I put it to sleep, once I try to resume the video, it hangs n reboots. It drove me nuts.
But I did a factory reset today (refer to the earlier post), and I haven't been reproduce the problem again. I will monitor for the next 7 days.

In the past 7 days, I had 3 reboots, all video related. From TED to DicePlayer etc.
I also do alot of surfing and run some apps, these do not encounter reboots.

Official ASUS Thread - Random Lockups after ICS update

Good Day,
For those users who are suffering from the "Random Lockup or Screen Corruption" problem after the ICS update we are currently finalizing our replication efforts along with a final fix. We have identified two issues that could potentially cause this problem and will start contacting a subset of users who have already reported the problem for further testing and system level information.
Issue -
1. System might randomly lockup or generate a blind screen effect after the ICS update. I have received a few reported cases matching this behavior and we will be in contact with most of you in the near future.
a. If we do not contact you directly, it does not mean we are not working on this problem. I have read all the messages and randomly selected a couple of users for further contact. We will have a fix for this problem shortly.
Sincerely,
Gary
1/18/12 Update - We will continue to contact additional users over the next two days. We are in the process of qualifying a fix now and are awaiting a system return to verify this fix with our partners shortly.
1/19/12 Update - The ICS 9.4.2.11 update being rolled out now addresses the horizontal line and random signal line issues after the initial ICS load. It also addresses poor video playback (especially YouTube), however if you still have the YouTube corruption problem after this update, please uninstall then reinstall Flash from the app market. This patch also addresses the random reboot problem after the ICS update but we still have another patch that is in qualification testing at NVIDIA to fully solve these problems.
1/22/12 Update - I will provide an update tomorrow on our new Customer Service Support program for the Transformer Prime and additional forum support that will be coming in the very near future. In addition, I expect an update from engineering and NVIDIA shortly on the random lockup problem after the ICS update.
1/23/12 Update - Replication testing is still in process and I do not have an update to provide yet. We will provide a customer support hotline and direct email address shortly for users suffering with this problem. In the meantime, we will start another series of direct communication between our service/engineering group and selected users for additional testing.
1/25/12 Update - We are working on two different solutions now and hope to have a fix available in early February. One option to try is to revert back to the last Honeycomb image through the manual update process, set the unit power mode to balanced performance and screen brightness manually to 50%, and then manually update to the latest ICS build using these instructions - http://service.asus.com/TF201_fwupdate. You will need a fully charged battery and have the system plugged into AC power. This worked on a couple of returned units but not on all units. Only try this procedure if you are comfortable with flashing a new ROM image and want to take the time to complete each process.
1/31/12 Update - We are now testing a firmware and driver update. I will provide an update once initial alpha testing is completed.
2/1/12 Update - We received new code from NVIDIA today and are in the process of testing it. If this code is acceptable and provides a solution to the lock/reboot problem after the ICS update, we will release it in beta form for additional testing with users suffering from this problem before implementing it in the next OTA update. I should have an answer in two days if we can release the current patch code.
2/7/12 Update - We received another new code update from NVIDIA for testing today. Hopefully we will be able to release a beta patch or OTA update shortly. I will have an update after testing is completed tomorrow.
2/8/12 Update - We plan on releasing a new OTA update with revised firmware and code to solve the random lockup/reboot problem early next week.
2/8/12 Update - We pushed 9.4.2.13 US early to address the random lock and reboot issues plus you might see general improvements in performance including WiFi and maybe even aGPS.
9.4.2.13 Release Notes -
1. Fix Random Reboot / Lockup Problem (100% success in regression testing with returned units, hopefully the same in the community)
2. Enable Google WideVine video rental in the US
3. General Performance Enhancements
4. New WiFi Firmware (there might be improvements in WiFi performance or lock capabilities, still working on the WiFi/BT dropout fix that will not be assisted by the WiFi/GPS firmware updates) (Edited for clarification)
2/23/12 Update - We will release the .15 Firmware update in the very near future. To date, 100% success with the beta testers whom I thank profusely not to mention a very smart engineer at HQ.
Just a reminder, for those I or engineering did not contact directly yet about this problem, it does not mean we are ignoring your problem. We have read all the messages so please do not be upset if we have not contacted you yet.
3/6/2012 Update:
I am back and will start answering messages.
Thats great news! Thank You for your help Gary!
Thanks for the update!

So does this mean it is a software problem and will be fixed through an update? I'm still not sure if I want to send in my tablet, but based on the news it kind of sounds like it will be fixed with an OTA update.
Based on my VERY little experience with this tablet, it seems that the lockups only occur while I am in high performance mode. The balanced setting gives me no problems as of right now, compared to substantial lockups with high performance. Anyone else have similar results?

Most of the people who've responded in the original thread have said that it either happens A.) randomly, B.) when something "high performance" is going on, or C.) "usually" when trying to use the browser. In nearly all cases, the tablet was working just fine in Honeycomb.
Various users have been able to replicate the issue within certain applications, seemingly narrowing it down, though still others have different experiences. There seem to be two common veins of this problem - the very frequent lockup/reboots, often accompanied with freezing on boot, and the more sinister infrequent lockup/reboots.
For more info, check out the doc in my signature or the original (and lengthy) thread here.

Two issues? Care to explain? Two potential hardware problems? We know anything and everything no matter what and when your doing something the lockup can happen so I would love to know what you mean by "two issues that could potentially cause this problem"
Unfortunately, I am having the problem with freezing/locking up and subsequent rebooting since I upgraded to ICS (never rooted).
While going to "power saving" mode seems to lengthen the time between freeze-reboots, it does not eliminate them.
I have a few days left before I'll need to return this to the retailer for a refund...and am trying to decide what to do. If it is a simple software/firmware fix, that's great...but if I need a whole new tablet, I guess I might as well return this one for a refund.
Thoughts?
And: Gary, thanks for your help to all of us!
Good that you are aware of this problem with the freezes and the pad does not respond to touch.
And this is what I like about asus. That they work closely with customers. And bring updates
Coming from a Samsung Galaxy Tab. And there was never any updates or support. Was always left out in the dark.
So those who complain that they do not receive updates should take a look at how things look for other brands.
I've read through a lot of posts and would like to repond with my own analyzing effort
First of all, no issues when I've had HC. After upgrading to ICS, the reboots started immidiatly. I've it on the following (some times):
1. Browser: Random crashes when surfing
2. WakeUp: When putting the screen off and waking it up. On first keypress in a app or(not that much on homescreen) it will lockup and reboot after a few seconds.
I must say in the first couple of days the reboots where constantly happening on above 2 scenarios, after almost a week now, the problem is much less. I do have reboots, but it is definitly not going over and over.
I think it is a combination of ICS and Asus Drivers. It would be weird if it is a hardware problem as there are no issues at all in HC. As the amount of reboots are affecting a lot of users, it puzzles me why Asus isn't able to reproduce it themselves
But ok. Love the tablet, but they will need to resolve these issues. First GPS, then Wifi and now this... I don't think a lot of people can handle more
I posted this in the other thread about locking up primes, but figured I would post it in here as well. If it's not necessary, please delete it. Anyways, here it goes.
I have one of the newer primes, and ever since the ics update to 4.0.3 it's been randomly rebooting. I also notice i get the android.process.media error quite a bit. At first I thought it was the asus stuff not playing well with ics, so i turned as much of it off as I could. That seemed to calm down the weird graphics glitch where it would freeze then when you'd press the home softkey, the screen would instantly blank unreadable, looks like when you halfway unplug a vga cable or something. Once you reboot, it comes back fine. Now I'm just getting random reboots.
Seems to occur shortly after the android.process.media fc's. I was playing with androidvnc just now and twice it rebooted. Going to try the force gpu rendering first, and if that doesn't work, I'll try to flash the zip. Here's the key info. I also notice when I have wifi off and it's chilling in my bag, it stays just fine. I know by checking the uptime. But as soon as I turn wifi on and start messing with it, it can run from 2 minutes to 2 hours then I get a reboot. Very random. Will report back on the gpu rendering and the zip to see how it goes. Honestly it looks like it's stuttering right before it locks up. Almost like the processor isn't getting the voltage it needs, or bad memory. It's so hard to tell though.
Here's the fyi:
Never rooted
Worked perfectly on Honeycomb
Updated it the day the update came out to 4.0.3, and the camera firmware to tf201-0x9900
Other misc info:
Gps - 6.8.13
Wifi - 6.1.1.17
bluetooth - 9.23
Kernel - 2.6.39.4
Build number - IML74K.US_epad-9.4.2.7-20120106
I'm seeing similar symptoms as everyone else but i dont recall seeing reports of the additional 'Upgrading Android' message that i seem to be seeing.
Below is the chain of events over about 6 hours since unboxing the tab.
Took delivery of device, powered on and configured wifi followed by upgrade to ICS 4.0.3 and camera firmware. After upgrade, verified everything was working then did a wipe of user data and cold boot (both done by restarting with volume down and power pressed)
Configured device again with basic settings to get online and used it for approx 1 hour of browsing with stock ICS browser before lockups started. Lockup occurs followed by a reboot about 20 seconds later. Balanced power mode is in use.
Lockups and reboot occuring frequently, probably no more than 10-15 minutes apart. Browser is most frequently in use at the time but I see the same symptoms in other apps.
After perhaps 3 hours of this lockup/reboot cycle the device restarted and stuck at the EEE Pad screen. I then reset using the pinhole. Device then entered a boot loop. It would restart at any time between the dots in a circle and occasionally the login screen but would lockup and reboot before i could unlock. During this reboot cycle i then saw a message saying 'Upgrading Android, Step 1 or 16' which then counted up to 16 and changed to 'Starting applications' but froze and rebooted. This 'upgrading' cycle occured several times. After a significant number of wipes, cold boots and pin hole resets the device now appears to boot although the lockup and reboot cycle continues when in use.
If i can help, pm me for any details you need.
Guys, let's wait for Garys response before badgering him. Just wait a little longer. Just hit the seven day mark since the ICS update.

So basically they don't know a damn thing. And no I won't give him or Asus any more time. As it is they showed that they simply can not handle releasing a product. I'm not giving Any benefit of the doubt because Asus has lied and pushed out a faulty product to all of us. im not Just talking about ics. this is crazy.
Just got my first reboots last night on 4.0.3 in performance mode while doing heavy surfing with the stock browser. First the browser instantly disappeared in the middle of what I was doing, then I got a reboot when I tried it again with all the same tabs open. It seems the stock browser has trouble rendering/navigating around the full desktop version of Facebook. It lags like crazy. Could it be the heavy PHP code that Facebook desktop site is written in is making the Tegra 3 flip out/overheat?
I remain hopeful that Gary Key's crew at ASUS can replicate the problem and fix it.

I didn't have a single lockup since upgrading to ICS until last night, however last night I was really putting my Prime through its paces. Bluetooth streaming audio, wifi on, several tabs open in the browser and I was surfing constantly. Like I edited into my previous post, I think the Facebook desktop site and the stock 4.0.3 browser do not get along very well. I don't have my Prime on me now, but when I get home this evening I'll stress test a different browser like Dolphin HD...
All of my lag appears to be in the browser. If I go into about:debug and turn on "Normal Rendering" it improves somewhat. 3rd party browsers such as "ICS Browser Plus" do not experience this issue as much, although it does somewhat.
Lag and freezing is especially noticeable when flash video is involved, although Adobe just released an update --here's hoping that improves something.

Besides the fact, that PHP is server side scripting and has nothing to do with the Prime, I too experience difficulties with the Facebook main page and resulting lock-ups/reboots. I'm really torn between waiting for a fix and driving to the RMA site, which is close by my hometown here in Germany, to hand the Prime in.
The frustrating experience for me is, that I'm not using the browser that often to surf around facebook, but I really rely on gBrowser to read the news on my commute and this also leads to reboots. Do I have to go back to a single newspaper now?
Btw. I've written my Prime's details into the datasheet that flies around here.

This doesn't sound like the same lockup issue. Did your screen freeze on whatever current screen it was on for 10 seconds and then reboot?

Random reboot with .15 update, am I the only one?

After updating this morning to .15, I just got the random reboot since before the .13 update. Using ICS+ browser.
Am I the only one? This sucks. Gary Key, I've already sent you a PM.
Please don't fill this thread stating .15 is working perfectly for you. I already know it is working well for most people.
How many reboots?
In over 48 hours I have had only 1 reboot and I believe it was my fault. I was using the stock browser and was trying to do too much at once and not letting it catch up.
If your having multiple reboots that is a different story.
Just one thus far. How can any reboot be "your fault"?

Really guy, you created a thread because of one reboot??? An issue would be if you had constant reboots, not just one. Every tablet I have owned rebooted now an then, it happens. Now lets see all the 'me toos' pop up now.
after the update gta3 doesnt work for me anymore anyone has the same issue. I clear data then uninstall and reinstall the apk nothing. It will work all the way up until the load is almost finish and it gets stuck on the load screen. Freaking A
update: now Age of Zombies lets me play for a while and then its goes black and restarts the game. WTF before the update it did not do this!
Going to restart the tablet and hope this fixes whatever is going on
update 2: looks like that solved it thank god,
so guys basic troubleshooting restart your devices and see if the problem continues

That's very good advice, you should always reboot after an update.
My prime started restarting when i had my xbox dongle in the USB slot today. Had about 5 reboots today. Never had a reboot before(well probably once every three/month).
One restart isnt something to be concerned about.
I have had one reboot since receiving the update yesterday.

I disagree, reboots are NOT normal, I had the Xoom since the day it was released till two weeks ago, and never had spontaneous reboots like the Prime does(I also had no issues with the Galaxy Tab, and the HTC Flyer.) App crashes, Apps not working till reboot are one thing but I am getting reboots on .15 when even trying to run Market updates. I have hard reset and had the market reload my apps and the problem came back the very next day. I just returned my unit to Frys since it was my last day in my return window. I also had a problem with the covers on the USB cable sliding off and if I plugged the charger upside-down I would get a slight shock from the back of the Prime.
They did not have any in stock to exchange, which might have been a blessing. I am going to wait and see how future shakes out before trying again.
My theory(unscientific) is the the Prime is using very slow NAND Flash memory for storage. I had the 64gb version and when writing to the storage it seems to take a lot longer than the Xoom. If I had 6 or 7 market updates on the Xoom it would take 30 to 40 seconds to download and install, the Prime would take 2 to 3 minutes(if it did not reboot itself before completing.). I would constantly get the Wait/Cancel prompt on the stock browser when a website was almost done loading, and writing cache to the NAND Flash.

I agree, while my desktop PC seems to average between 5 - 10 a year, my blackberry playbook has had none so devices that don't randomly reboot are possible to make. In truth, though I love the Prime it has had the most random reboots of any device I have.

My two year old PC has never had reboots, in applicaion crash on occasion. I think the key is the stability and quality of the components being used, and in this case ASUS is cutting corners to keep the price low. Look at the threads with peoples screens lifiting and dust under the screens.
Don't get me wrong, I like the Prime and I will probably get another when some of the issues get sorted out.

Its because of the Tegra3 i wouldnt call it cutting corners exactly however their quality control has been pretty terrible with the Primes.
I agree. Reboots are not normal. I have never had a single reboot on my desktop that I built or my laptop. The only time my phone has ever rebooted was due to a known issue with an ota, which is fixed. I NEVER had a reboot with my prime until. 15.

I am experiencing lots of reboots
I was watching a flash video in the browser when this started. The tablet kept on rebooting itself over 15 times in a row....i had to use a paper clip in order to reset it. tablet has about 15% of charge left when this started. I am not sure if it related. This issue never occurred until this last .15 update. Also i noticed now they have the application not responding dialog box appears when an application hangs "IMBD", however after you hit kill the application it doesn't do anything and the tablet reboot itself withing 10 sec. ASUS when are you going to be able to fix this?
No reboot so far for five days.

Will update with results.
Did you end up trying the soft reset and factory reset to see if it would help?
I think this problem might have started occurring just before the .21 update.
I recall doing a soft reset twice to rectify the problem and it did work. But the problem kept recurring and a soft and factory reset would not solve the problem thereafter. I also noticed the first column furthest to the left on my screen would be grainy, at least while I was using ADW Launcher EX. I probably would not have sent the prime for repair if it was not for the camera issue. The support rep was very informative and concluded it was a hardware issue based on the symptoms. But now I am trying to kill 3 birds with one stone by dealing with the GPS and WiFi issues as well.
Wifi strength is satisfactory to very good but hope they can strengthen it.
GPS is an interesting issue. I can lock into as many as 13 satellites on a good day but the locks never last enough to using the GPS for navigation purposes. The rep I talked to seems to think Asus has come out with extended pegs/pins to assure optimal connectivity. I will just have to wait and see if this solves those problems.
As mentioned in the previous post, I am quite impressed with the Asus Support thus far. One quick call (no longer than 2 minutes to talk to a rep !!) and I got the ball rolling. I truly love my prime and hope they can solve the problems in a timely fashion.

Wifi issues, random reboots and launcher crashes...

I did some searching and did not see much on this. Also, I've sent multiple PMs to Gary Key over the past month without one reply back. I have a BC0KAS Prime and as of the last update have had nothing but frustrating issues. To preface, this device is not unlocked or rooted and is using the latest firmware available.
Here are issues I'm seeing:
1. Launcher crashes multiple times per day.
2. Poor Wifi performance.
3. Random reboots (usually happens 1-2 times per week)
4. After inserting the GPS dongle, the device keeps rebooting.
If some of these issues are not common and hardware related, I suppose I can do an RMA. Although, I'm not impressed with the reviews I've read on this process to date. Otherwise, I suppose I will have to wait for the next firmware update.
For those familiar with the process, what do you recommend the right course of action should be?
Thanks for your advice.

me too
I'm afraid I have no experience of the RMA process, but I too have had more reboots since the .21 update. I now also suffer from problems connecting to my WIFI that I didn't have prior to the update.
Since not many others appear to be running into the same issues, it appears an RMA may be in order. Hopefully, they can repair or replace the device with a short turn around.

Same issues
I also have a BCOKAS model and since the update I have had a lot more issues than previously - lots of random reboots and reduced performance on WiFi and battery life.
I have contacted Asus directly and told that the new update will fix the issue so i guess i just put up with the problem til then?
Also waiting for usb dongle - hopefully will get from submitted to shipped one day but not holding my breath
Mine prime reboots atleast onece or twice a day and youtube crashes multiple times in some day I also have a bcokas serial number. Its becoming unusable.

Yea, I suppose our choices are limited at this point. I am very dissapointed that Gary Key never responded to my multiple PMs on the issue. I suppose that's par for the course with ASUS...

Before this thread gets closed, my prime also reboots. The only way I got it to stop was downgrading to Honeycomb where I was able to run it 9 days with only one reboot. I don't offer that as a solution just as an option. I purchased my prime with ICS already on it and sarted getting reboots after about two weeks. So I let it upgrade to ICS again to see if there is any OTA of ics that would not reboot my machine yesterday, and this morning I have had one reboot after watching a youtube video.
It leads me to think that it has more to do with ICS than a hardware defect with the prime. I also had a little better wifi on HC or shall I say it was consistent all over my house, not the case under ICS. A google search will show that reboots are common with ICS across many devices, again it not just the prime. Just my 2 pennies.
Mine used to reboot after going to .21 but mainly during browsing. Not sure which helped but I removed all browser cept stock and uninstalled flash. Rebooted and just installed flash. Didn't bother with the other browsers. Another thing I did was disable force gpu in the setting> development.

[Q] Is netflix working normally on your stock TFP

Hey all my TFP peeps!
I am having infinite amounts of trouble getting netflix to work on my completely stock TFP since Netflix updated to 2.0. I have 4 devices and I have updated all but 1 (all android) to 2.0 and all of them are doing the same thing minus the kindle (not updated).
The SGS2 and TFP and LTE EVO with completely fresh installs will let me log in, properly see the panels of shows and recently watched, but once I select a show it will stick on the red loading screen infinitely, like overnight and nothing.
Kindle is working great.
Stock everything on every phone (I know, shame on me). All phones work on 3G/4G.
Comments seem that I am not alone: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...client&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
So I come to the premier peeps for amazing solutions, what the HELL is wrong with my netflix apps on my phones/TFP.
BTW, I have not changed anything on my router, and tons of other devices are able to connect and watch (I make people try when they come over) ipads, iphones, etc... Come to think of it no other android devices lol.
Thanks all, Kevin
bump
Well, I'm unlocked and not stock anymore, but I can let you know that I am able to run Netflix version 2.0.1 build 655 which I am assuming is the latest version fine on my Prime using Hairybean 1.3 which is a JB based rom. You can try clearing the data from your netflix app under settings apps, and then uninstall, then reinstall the app from the market. Maybe try turning off Automatic restore under settings, backup & reset so Google doesn't automatically restore whatever settings might be blocking you before you reinstall from market.
Hope you can get it figured out.
i ran a show for 15 mins, stock, locked JB and unrooted without difficulty.
I had problems right after the most recent upgrade. It was released about 3 weeks ago. I had just watched a Netflix the night before without problems. I upgraded then had the problems you're mentioning. Eventually, I got an error. The error occurred in the Netflix app and (to any reasonable person) it appeared to be a Netflix error.
I called Netflix support about this. They're usually very good. The tool that I talked to told me that it was an OS problem and that I'd need to contact Asus. I already know how absolutely HORRIBLE Asus support is, so that was DECIDEDLY NOT AN OPTION. I argued with this idiot back and forth for about 5-10 minutes. I told him that it worked fine the previous night with the previous version and then stopped working right after the upgrade. I asked him how in the heck he figured this was an OS problem.
This idiot could not help me and he let me know that there is no escalation point. The buck stopped there. To make matters more infuriating, there was no downloadable down-rev version of the player - he would not provide that -- UGH!
After cursing him, his family, his pets, his culture, his sexual proclivity (whatever it may happen to be), and his company, I removed and reinstalled the player a few times. It ended up working.

This is seriously killing me, i am one stop short of a complete factory reset. Could it really be just my tab?
Look at the comments for TFP under google play (Link in OP), I AM NOT ALONE, I SWEAR!!!

Did you try removing and reinstalling a few times?
It finally did the trick for me.

ACK! Sorry to ask.
I think I had my problems around 9/25 or 9/26. I just checked my version on my non-rooted, non compromised JB Transformer Prime. I'm running NetFlix v2.0.1 build 655. It looks like I somehow have something a little newer than you. Hmmmm.....

Yeah 655 didnt fix ****. SO PISSED.
Reset the whole tab and everything.
SO PISSED!!!!
Well guys I figured it out (kind of). I took the tab to a local McDonalds, and just as before it booted straight in and started playing. So at that point I knew it was something with my router. I have an Asus RT-N56u just in case it matters.
So I wrote down my settings (port forwarding for remote desktop, apps, etc to my HTPC) and did a factory reset. When it came back alive I just left it unprotected, and sure enough started streaming just like normal. Then I reset all of my settings one at a time (port forwarding, going to WPA2-Personal encryption, etc.) and each change it kept streaming just like normal. I now have my settings back to EXACTLY how they were before, but with a factory reset and changing the settings back to the same as before, it is working now. I have no idea why it broke, but on google play it seems there are others having the same troubles. I am now back in love with both my TFP and netflix service!
