Hello folks,
I'm trying ti change the user agent of browser, but always come back to the custom agent.
Anybody knows what else I must do?
Thanks in advance

I presume you mean that after changing user agent with about:useragent, it reverts after closing the browser?
[HACK/FIX] Changing useragent string in browser to Desktop (Permanently), [MOD][BROWSER] 5 User agents, Font size, Full screen, 16 tabs [Bounce-Glow][29/12/11]. Also, a less elegant solution is to add about:useragent to your favourites, and just click it when you start the browser, or simply use a different browser (my preferred solution, Opera as it re-flows text on pinch-zoom).
Thanks buddy

I've resorted to using Opera Mobile as my default browser due to the keyboard lag with the stock browser. Opera is so fast and smooth, but it lacked a user agent setting, so some sites would default to mobile versions.
Thank god, user agent setting has been added. You can toggle between tablet (mobile) or desktop. Yea!

Actually, its been there for quite some time. You just had to type in opera:config in the URL bar. From there, you could access hundreds of settings not available in the standard settings menu.
its been there man
There's a certain website I frequent on my PC that allows me to stream episodes of breaking bad, etc. It's a pretty simple straightforward search engine that links you to a streaming flash video. When I try from my phone, it brings me to a version of the site which only allows me to search and then download the file instead of streaming it.
Is there any workaround / fix / app that will trick the site into thinking I'm on a PC?
Thank you
Dolphin (I use mini) will let u change the User Agent to Desktop.

Basically all of the third party browsers allow you to change user-agents. I really like the default browser, if only it gives option to do permanent desktop mode or allow switching like third party browsers do.
There is a way to change the stock browser to do desktop mode, but it is only per session. if you close the browser and reopen it goes back to mobile view.
I use dolphin hd set to desktop user agent, allows for streaming on hulu and full turntable.fm
+1 dolphin browser

i use maxthon. you can change to desktop or other browser types in the option. if you use it on your pc or laptop too you can sync all uour bookmarks and stuff with it after you sign in. its faster than google chrome on a computer and the fastest ive found for my atrix. hopes this helps.
I use both Dolphin HD and Opera, but Dolphin doesn't work properly on this site. If you're in a thread with multiple pages the button for the last page is covered so it's difficult to get to, and if you try to search the thread the search pops up and disappears immediately. The back button on Dolphin doesn't work well if you click a link in Yahoo - you have to hit back multiple times before it works. Most sites do work ok though.
The stock CM7 browser will let you change user agents to Linux desktop, Mac desktop, Froyo, Eclair, iPhone, iPad and IE6

Hello
I have had some issues finding the User Agent string on my Prime.
Can anyone help me out? Trying to make some changes to it. Thanks!
EDIT: I'd like to change is system wide, not just for the stock browser. E.g. some androids have a "values" folder in the framework-res.apk where they have a user agent string.
yup, its in the browser settings.
You can just type - about:useragent and enter in the browser.

Unfortunately, this will not work on the stock browser. For the stock browser, go to setting> advanced> user agent string.

Sorry, to clarify, I wanted to do a system wide UA change to affect everything. Not just the browser, that I can do. Thank you
Bump, any ideas?
Hey everyone,
Does anyone know of an .apk for the DX2 that can change the UAstring within the default browser permanently? I know about the 'about:useragent' or 'about:debug' methods but these are not permanent. It gets pretty annoying to have to type everytime I open the browser.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, whenever our browser goes to a website by default it always displays mobile mode. When you set the UAstring you can set the user agent as android, iphone, desktop, whatever.
The stock browser is fast and I really like using it. I just hate that it always goes to mobile view.
I found this hack for the motorola xoom that does this, I don't know how applicable it would be for us since the xoom runs honeycomb. framework-res-uastring.apk is the APK that xoom owners apply to make the UAString change permanent on their device. Perhaps something similar can be done on our phone.

I'd recommend Boat Browser. It's a fast, lightweight web browser but it also allows user agent settings. You can find some of the details in the below link.

Another good one that I found the other day is Dolphin browser. It is also on the marketplace.
So i've tried searching this answer and I'm not finding awhole lot. This is becoming quickly annoying.
No matter what web program I download (for instance - Skyfire), websites on the SGS2 typically show up in the mobile version of a website.
I've looked here:
http://www.mobilephonetipsandtricks.com/2011/08/how-to-view-pages-in-desktop-mode-with.html
but there is no "View Mode" on the Tmo sgs2. In Skyfire I select desktop mode but that doesn't stop pages from loading mobile versions of themselves. I've even tried "about:debug" but that does nothing.
Heck I've even tried a factory reset.
Anyone have a for sure answer?
Use a browser that allows you to change the user agent to desktop rather than mobile, such as opera mobile.
I've never had that problem using Firefox. Sites which have a mobile site and a "normal" site tend to default to the normal site and I can only get mobile sites up if I preface a domain known to have a mobile site with the usual "m."
i use dolphon browser HD and set my user agent to desktop.
Works without problems.
Do you have the T-Mobile USA version? If so I would check its foum, as there may be a modded stock browser like for the i9100.
Dolphin HD, opera mobile and Firefox mobile all have options to display the normal website as default via user agent.

try opera mobile or mini, or u can install ics and then the stock browser has a "request desktop site"

I've got Dolphin HD and works perfect. Go to: more/settings/dolphin settings/user agent and choose Desktop. Restart browser and You ready to go. enjoy
