Hi Guys
New YP-G70 owner.. love it so far, but I have a few questions:
-Am I right in thinkiing I can do anything with it as i can with a SGS apart from make a phone call, such as mod it, flash it and custom it with EX Launcher, Cyanogen or anything from the Google Market.
- Does anyone know what the latest English language firmware. I found this on SamFirmware,
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?p...70&r=1#regiona
but the 2.3.6 are for italy and sweden, when i do a search for UK firmware, the latest one is 2.3.5.. XXKPF, which says France.. can anyone advise.
Thanks
In this thread u can find a file with the update:

Yeah, i did that.. it now shows me a mini phone, a computer with an orange triangle in the middle of them and pressing the power button just resets to that but it does detect it in windows and odin, it just stops with "ID3 Connection" when i try to flash 236
Ive just got this today.. can anyone help..please
Is it Bricked?. Will leaving it on to drain the battery help?.
Also, is there a recovery file for it. My version is a YP-G70CW, which i believe is the international version.
Any advice
you need to find the stock ROM & use ODIN to install via download mode. All the info you need are in these forums, I did a search for your model & stock rom I got this. Or search the dev forums.

I didnt use a .pit file, I just used the XXKPH file in PDA here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574207
then clicked start and it failed, now its just sitting there as mentioned, but i have downloaded the 8gig international..235.pit file, i just havent done anything yet.
What should i do next?
Ok, had a dig around and I need to flash a kernel as well as the KPH file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574207
Is there a kernel available for stock KPH and do i need to use the .pit.
Thanks
Thank god.. Its Done.. Yep, its fixed through hard work, reading around, following advice given and much diligence. In the download mode I mentioned, I flashed using rjs Kernel which got it bootlooping, then flashed KPF in ODIN.. had to flash KPF twice, wiped Cache part > Dalvik Cache, fact. reset and reboot.. all done.
Because this has a built in battery, ill not be doing this again through odin.. ill use KIES, even if i have to wait 3 months for the release.
Its now 4.30am and im off to bed.
Thanks
Update... Im now on KPH236
Some questions about that flash:
When the flashing failed and i held holding the power button down for 10 seconds, thats when it booted into the other download mode (phone, triangle, PC), so would i be right in thinking this works like flashing a SGS and what bricks it would be:
- Installing US firmware on my EU player.
- Installing bootloaders for no reason or anything rom-wise from a SGS
- pulling the USB cable out when flashing OR closing down ODIN.
- Geting impatient and pressing/holding down buttons when still in download mode or flashing.
A few other questions:
- Is there anything else that I could do to protect it against a brick.
- As this is not a phone, can I go back to 235 if i want, just use ODIN with XXKPF 235 in PDA.
- If i do go back, Will I have to replace rjs kernel first with stock KPF kernel, then flash KPF ROM or can i just flash the rom and it will overwrite rjs.
- Googles search by voice doesnt work unless its wifi'd, as in finding something in the player like a song, a memo or contacts name, it just "connection problem" .. Is that normal, yet runs fine with wifi on.
The reason Im asking is because Kies keeps telling me there is a connection problem when i plug it in and it wont detect it.. Is this due to rjs kernel or is there another issue, just to put my mind at rest.
Thanks

I will be extra cautious if a ROM has zImage (kernel) and/or bootloader in it. The consequence of a corrupted bootloader is obvious. A corrupted kernel can be problematic because the recovery mode comes with the kernel. If you messed up the kernel, you will loss your recovery mode as well.
Actually I hope more developers will publish their ROM in CWM flashable zip rather than Odin image. Since Odin basically dump the disk image to your device, any mistakes in the process will likely corrupt your device's partitions. In contrast, CWM flashing uses high level operations like file delete and copy to install the ROM (in most cases). It is much less risky than using Odin (if the developer knows what he is doing). Just my 2 cents.
So if i delete the "zimage" in a ROM and flash it, it will only flash the ROM? Also how do i know if it has bootloaders included?
Forgot to quote you but.... Cheers WT Ho, youve put my mind at rest and Im quite happy, that after my problems above, its not the player... rjs is nice and stable and boots really fast, so Im staying on KPH 236 and gonna upgrade through ODIN, not downgrade to KPF.. Have found the issues are with Kies not the kernel being recognised, alot of posts about Kies issues on various sites and forums. SamFirmware.com is my friend.. .

Yes you need a connection, heres why:

You can open an Odin ROM easily by using 7-zip. If it has md5, you will encounter a warning but that's fine.
For full ROM, you will see
boot.bin
cache.rfs
dbdata.rfs
factoryfs.rfs
param.lfs
Sbl.bin
zImage
Basically most custom ROMs will modify your factoryfs.rfs only. If you need a new kernel, zImage is also needed. All other files are related to boot or data partition (usually not needed). Therefore many ROMs only have zImage and factoryfs.rfs in them.
Although I haven't tried that myself, I think it is possible to just put the factoryfs.rfs in the tar file. That will be similar to the Odin package of rj's kernel, you will only see the zImage in the tar file.
I want to return an S2 to stock...I'm in the UK, will XWLPD be the right firmware? I must admit I'm a bit confused as to the second link there : XWLPD Stock Kernel....do I need to flash both these things?
Essentially I want to sell the phone and have it as much back to original as possible. It is rooted and has CWM on it. It's currently running CyanogenMod 9.
I can't get any Phone / PDA / CSC info, because *#1234# doesn't work.
Use CheckFus to download whatever is the proper and latest ROM for your country and operator.
CheckFus is here: http://fus.nanzen.se/
Then using Odin flash the ROM to your phone, reboot, wipe everything and the phone will be as good as new.
If that answered you, click "Thanks".
Flash just the tar.md5, its the whole package

No. The full package is the first link, which has the stock kernel contained within already. The stock kernel in the second link is provided as a separate package just in case you need it, in the event you want to flash the stock kernel back after you've either flashed an insecure kernel to root, or flashed a custom kernel.
Dont forget to format the internal sd-card

I press ok and get Invalid HIDSWVER.
EDIT : Is this because I'm running Cyanogenmod 9 nightly build?

In the 3rd post scroll down to LP7 select the XEU UK CSC download
Estract the file located in the zip / rar file.
Start Odin click the PDA button and find the extracted LP7 fileand select it, put your phone in download mode, plug in the USB, once you have the yellow indicator click start and let it flash.
Once finished you will have UK generic 4.0.3 version
After that just factory reset the phone to clean it, also format the SD Card to clean thta as well.

I'm thinking of reverting back to stock as well, what are your reasons? I love the customisation of the AOKP ROMs but im really picky and some features dont work such as WiFi direct which is putting me off. Non AOKP ROMs dont have this issue but they dont support live lock screens so there is always something
Very minor but I am just that picky..lol Saying that I might go back to RR 9.6 as that seemed to work well for me. I am trying FOXHOUND atm and it seems good also.
B4 you go back to stock pls try Omega v13, there is stock, ICS or Black&Blue. I use v13 Ics as it's beautiful, truly. Everything just works. If you want AOKP, he even has an Omega v3.0 AOKP that I've heard is good too

Thanks for this. I've done this - how long should it take to reboot? Its gone to the SG2 boot screen and pretty much has stayed there for the last 10 minutes.
EDIT : No worries, went into recovery and erased cache/wipe data - now booting.
If your trying to get to original firmware, there are a few things we need to know.
1.. What carrier/provider are you with.
2.. What original firmware did you have, ie 2.3.3, 2.3.4
Download the original firmware from Samfirmware.com
Because you were on ICS; and you are selling the phone, you need to do more than just factory reset.
1 enter recovery
2 data/factory reset.
3 ( Advanced ), wipe dalvik cache
4 ( mounts & storage ), format system. format data. Format internal storage.
Unzip original firmware once only.
Put the firmware into PDA in Odin
turn off phone and enter download mode.
Connect usb cable to phone/PC
Click start on Odin once you see yellow connection in Odin.
If I was doing this and it was my phone, I would also put the pit file in too. But i shall leave that up to you.
Wait for phone to reboot.
On dial pad phone *2767*3588#
Phone will reset then reboot.
Done.
PS.. do not install custom rom.
If the new owner then wants to upgrade via Kies, he/she can.

Selling the phone. The person buying expects a Galaxy S2 - so Touchwiz it must be.

I've reinstalled a stock firmware, it all works. It wasn't ever branded and was unlocked when I got it, so to all intents and purposes, it looks like an unlocked, generic S2 now(with UK presets). There was no pit file on what I downloaded -but thanks for your input.....what I didn't do was format all before I tried to install. Once it had gotten stuck, went back into recovery and wiped all these things - now working fine.
For future ref. The pit file, you get from samfirmware.com. Its under flashprograms.
Hope you get a good price for it.

Hey,
I have somehow managed to brick my phone, here's how it happened..
I was using it, it was quite alright.. But then suddenly, the power button menu started appearing for no reason.. Then i couldnt use the power button at all.. But it got automatically resolved in the evening.
I found my camera to be very unsatisfying, so i updated the camera fw, and it was successful. No issues in the phone as such.
The next day, i found the phone stuck in a hard bootloop, unsolvable by taking the battery out and all.. The recovery mode resets into boot after like 3 seconds.
I put the phone in download and flashed a single file official rom from intratech's thread , that didnt solve anything.
So i thought that i had no option but to flash a .pit file and repartition the phone.
Now, i have an indian gt-i9100, and i looked everywhere for a .pit file , but i cant find a comprehensive guide which includes the .pit file.
I found this- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458&page=1
It has all the files, modem, code, and csc. Even the bootloader. But after downloading the package, i couldnt find a .pit file.
So i carried on with the multi file flash, voila, no recovery for me now. The phone still goes into download mode though.
I can carry on with the bootloader flash, but i wanted to try and clear and partitioning problems there might be, if any.
Please help.
Details of recent multi flash- XXLPH with the modem and csc files.
EDIT--
Just got the .pit file from the post mentioned above.. did the repartioning.. still the same problem ..

ok here try this
pit : http://www.mediafire.com/?pu1nh622wudgzey
Firmware: http://hotfile.com/dl/146748985/809318f/I9100XXLPH.zip.html
Kernel : http://www.mediafire.com/?65a5a59666hdopx
PASSWORD FOR EXCTRATING KERNEL : [email protected]
First flash pit .. once done remove usb , remove battery again get the phone in download mode
flash only kernel in pda once done remove usb , remove battery again get the phone in download mode
after that then flash pit and the firmware together
in firmware u will find 3 files
CODE -> PDA
MODEM -> PHONE
CSC -> CSC
I think you should choose flashing the stock firmwares, where you should wipe everything: caches, dalvik cache, factory reset; however, backup your files.
Flash the firmwares that'd give you that "fresh new feeling"
If flashing it once won't work, i think you could try flashing it again.
But i think you screwed up somewhere in the steps.. mmmm you could try using simple fw's.. ones where all the files are in one PDA file

Hi Guys,
I'm new to this Forum and very new to Android. I have the Galaxy S2 and while attempting to install Clock Work Mod, following the instructions from GalaxyS2Root, all of a sudden the phone locked up at the Samsung Galaxy S2 sceen with the yellow exclamation mark and that's as far as I got.
With great difficulty, I can get into the recovery screen, but I haven't got a clue, what I can do from here.
Is the phone recoverable, or have I just destroyed a brand new phone? I don't have a rom zip on my sd card, so I couldn't install a new rom from the card.
I have tried everything to get it going again, but I think the more things I try, the worse it gets. I think I have now wiped the existing rom off completely and wiped the caches, all because I was panicing.
I even thought of removing my sd card, putting it into my wifes Galaxy Ace and downloading a replacement rom to it and then try to install the new rom back to my phone.
But guys, I'm really panicing here and don't know what to do!!
Can anybody please help me out, or do I now throw a brand new phone into the garbage?
Thank You.............dixie (Help Please)

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Hello,
You could try downloading the rom required and install using odin.
You will need to make sure you get the right version for your phone and use odin to flash.
I've not done exactly what you have before I got into a simple boot loop and had to re flash. Live and learn I guess!

Thanks for your reply,
But how do I connect my phone to Odin and what menu should the phone be in, in the recovery mode?
Doesn't the phone have to be in the download mode?
I can only seem to get into the basic recovery mode, ie volume up + power + home keys.
Regards..............dixie.
Have you tried to get into download mode (volume down + home + power)?
You should be able to do that if you can get into recovery. Once in download mode, connect to your PC, start Odin and choose PDA, then select the tar that you have downloaded (it will be in zip form until you unpack it).
Read some threads about Odin/Download mode before you start and make sure you are happy to proceed.

O'k I did as you told me, but the first strange thing is, when I extract the zip file I get the following: boot.bin, cache, factory fs, hidden, modem.bin, param.lfs, Sbl.bin and zImage.............there is no exe type file!!!
However if I open odin, click on PDA and enter the whole zip file location and press start, everything goes ahead as planned.
I get a "Pass" and the phone restarts, I get the small tune and the blue moving lights on the screen, but then it just jams up, on the S Samsung Galaxy S2 screen. That's as far as the boot sequence goes.......frozen on the Galaxy S2 Screen!!
Any suggestions?
Regards......................dixie.
Pull out the battery, wait a few seconds replace and try to boot again. If that doesn't work, check you have the correct firmware to flash and try again with Odin.
Or have a look at this thread:

Right, for starters you need to give relevant information if you expect accurate help otherwise you're going to end up screwing your device up.
Which model of S2 do you have?
Which rom do you have? (give link)
Which guide did you follow? (give link)
If you can get into cwm its just a case of "wipe data/factory reset" and then flash custom rom of your choice from sdcard. Just go into cwm>mounts&storage>mount USB (this will mount cards onto PC if connected) so once connected copy your rom across.
I recommend the new wannam lite rom if you want new samsung JB based rom.
If you want to flash via ODIN then you should only be flashing a .tar or .md5 file in PDA section. If your extracting a zip and you get all the files you mentioned in your above reply then you have wrong file.

O'k thank you for your reply and thank you to the others that replied.
I was using an incorrect rom to flash and an incomplete rom at that!
I downloaded a different rom, extracted the files and flashed with odin. Now I am up and running and have the phone back to full woking order.
That was pretty scarery stuff and I thought I had bricked the phone for ever, I guess a little knowledge is helpful but dangerous, if one isn't sure of what they are doing.
Thank you once again for your help, it was much appreciated. I'll contact you again no doubt, next time I create a stuff up.

Hi Guys, one last request. I would like to root the phone and after a considerable amount of reading/research, the root file that I require, seems impossible to find. When I do find it and download, the .rar file is empty except for a zImage file!!!
My phone is the Galaxy S2 i9100 running ICS 4.0.3 Baseband Version i9100XXLPQ Kernel Version 3.0.15-i9100XXLPQ-CL223505 Build Number IML74K.XXLPQ.
I bought this phone, while I was visiting China and it has been great, up until I managed to brick it by accident.
Anyway, I apparently need the CF Root for XXLPQ v5.4, which I have downloaded six times, from various sites and every time I extract, it's empty, except for an image file!!!
I live in Australia and use the Telstra Network.....should I change to a more suitable Firmware, or maybe a stable custom rom, or can someone give me a link, for the appropriate working CF Root file?
Much Appreciate and Thank You........dixie.
Ignore the above post guys, a little more reading and I found my mistake.
However, I am still interested in the suggestion of a Custom Rom, which would work successfully, on Australian Networks.
Cheers to All......dixie.

I'm still new myself here but i'm sure ur phone is already rooted from what u said above. When u boot into recovery does stock recovery load or CWM ? if anything other than stock Samsung recovery then your already rooted.
Also u dont need to unzip the rar file its ready as is.
If ur phone is actually not rooted by far the easiest method is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
u dont need an insecure kernel and theres no risk involved even if u mess up. I was a lil hesitant to root my phone but used that method and all went fine, now i've learned so much in the past 2 weeks i'm flashing other kernels and tried lots of roms.
Peace

Yes thanks for the reply. I discovered that I didn't have to extract the root file, as it was already a .tar (stupid me).
So now I have a rooted phone and the Official ICS version XXLPQ, which is working in Australia, but I have noticed, that most of the time the Network is showing "edge".
All I really have to find now, is a good, stable, custom rom, that will also work in Australia.
A couple of observations....
You don't need "a good stable custom rom that will also work in Australia". Region has nothing to do with how a rom performs/your experience with that rom. If you're having issues with connectivity/you're not happy with data speeds, flashing/trying other modems may help. I suggest you read through this thread, at various times people have discussed which modems have worked well with different carriers (particular modems seem to work well for most people using a particular carrier). You can then search for CWM flashable versions of these modems & test them out until you find one that gives you connectivity you're happy with.
The other observation is you're a bit lacking in the 'basics'. I highly recommend you take the time to read through the guides. Knowing the basics makes it less likely you'll bork your phone at some stage, and that you'll be able to solve any problems that come up in a methodical/logical way (as opposed to guessing).
........a bit!!!!!!
Since you are on 4.0 3 ,why don't you flash the official jelly bean XXLS8 update via odin? Than root it with cf root

Use Siyah kernel v6 beta4 instead.
Hey guys,
I've spent the better half of 8 hours looking on multiple forums/downloading roms/attempting to flash my cousin's GT-I9300.
I attempted KIES update and emergency maintenance and they both start freezing.
I attemped odin with a multitude of roms with the model & serial given by kies (PDA:LLB / PHONE: LLA / CSC: LL3)
I've even downloading android commander to no avail.
I've successfully rooted and flashed my i747 multiple times so i'm somewhat familiar with the odin flash process, but this is a bit unsual.. and frustrating lol.
The phone is in reboot cycle (loops after the samsung logo animation), won't let me access recovery but will let me get into odin recovery.
Odin seems to have failed at every stock rom flash...
ANY help?

I assume with odin recovery you mean download mode? If so try to flash a stock ROM (maybe first a version that is from your region, you can find them on sammobile.com) via Odin and make sure that KIES is turned off (also from task manager, even better uninstall it). Do you have any error message showing up when you try to flash with Odin?
Try the flash again, and if it loops, try booting recovery and doing a reset......yes,I know you said you can't get into recovery, but just try after the flash
Also remember it can take a few minutes to boot after a flash, so be patient and give it a chance
---------- Post added at 07:29 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:28 AM ----------
Also what does the Odin log say/what stage is it failing at?

I've attempted to flash maybe 7-8 different roms. My cousin won the gt i9300 at a raffle overseas so thats why im unsure of what exact country it is. Is there a definitive way of finding which country exactly? I do know it was an unbranded rom and fully unlocked because he's been using it here (w/ straighttalk) for the past 6 months or so just fine i even flashed jellybean 4.1.1 when it was first released (via kies).
When I try to and get the version from kies it tells me (PDA:LLB / PHONE: LLA / CSC: LL3) but no country.. so idk if there's a definite way of finding this out. I'm downloading ICS rom and gonna try and roll back the rom as i've read some people did that and it worked.
Once i bring up download mode it says on the top (ODIN MODE) and binary download count YES (1 count) and rom as custom. I attempt to flash Odin it always fails right after system.img. never gets past i've tried to do multiple attempts(5-6) per rom but no luck yet. never gets past "downloading... do not turn off) phase.
thanks alot for the assistance guys!
CSC more or less tells you the country .
Overseas first question then is it actually I9300 look under the battery .

Model Number under battery says GT-I9300 same thing that's prompted during kies for emergency recovery.. which downloads but ends up not recognizing it. Odin flash on the other hand recongizes it when i plug it but keeps failing.
LL3 is from Pakistan http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9300&pcode=PAK#firmware
Try downloading any unbranded firmware cause it's pretty much it's the same thing. You can always change the csc after you flash your phone.
or Download the right firmware on the country on which you are right now.
Then follow the youtube guide here on how to properly flash it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610. You can just skip the unrooting part i guess.
EDIT:
Annandale is in UK right? On the 2nd link that i gave you the first firmware there is from UK so i think you can flash that one.

Yea i though it was from pain (LL3 rom listed on another thread) but i then foudn the PAK version so that's the one i downloaded but the 4.1.2 version. I downloaded 4.1.1 and 4.0 (ics) version so i'll give those a try too.
Phone specs as they appear on the back are :
Model: GT-I9300
FCC ID: A3LGTI9300A
SSN: -I9300GSMH
S/N: RF1C63KJ4RL
Okay goodluck on flashing your S3 I'm gonna sleep now lol. 12:11am here.
Gnite, gonna keep messing with this and see what happens.
Edit: Annandale. Virginia USA sry for the confusion.
Just tried the ICS and the 4.1.1 rom still fails at systems.img ... any ideas what else it could be?

the pit files that was posted there was for the 64gb one if you are using the 16gb one so I've uploaded the pit files for all SIII storage models.
just take note of this:
GT-I9300_mx_20120220.pit = Galaxy S3 of 16 Gb
GT-I9300_mx_20120322.pit = Galaxy S3 of 32 Gb
GT-I9300_mx_20120329.pit = Galaxy S3 of 64 Gb
And make sure to follow the the instructions there. Likewise credits goes to the posters there and not me lol.

Thanks for the follow up and thorough info! i'll make a note of that when i do this later.
I installed the pit file and it installs properly, says Reset then i put the phone back into download mode and try to upload the roms (PAK) 4.1.2 and 4.1.1 as well as the latest 4.0.4 and all fails. this time it fails after NAND Write.. so idk... >< i'm gonna try and download an older version of ICS (probably end up downloading all 5 ICS roms on samsung site. I'm looking for a stock kernel as well to follow what the additional instructions of the guy on the link posted but i can't seem to get my hand on a kernel, anyone know a link to a stock gt-i9300 kernel?
in the meantime i'll start downloading the ics roms.

I had a similar problem, my phone just froze in the middle of a phone call, had to pull out battery, and when i tried to turn it on, it wouldn't pass the second "SAMSUNG" logo, just stayed there forever, with the blue light (Official JB 4.1.2 - not rooted)... Anyway, after 3 days of trying, downloaded bunch of firmwares, but all of them gave me the infamous "Complete(Write) operation failed". This is how I MANAGED to revive my i9300 16Gb Int:
1.Open ODIN, load ONLY the pit file corresponding to your phone (In my case i9300 16Gb Int'l - GT-I9300_mx_20120220.pit), check "Repartition" and "F.Reset Time" and hit "Start".
- If this step goes OK (All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0))
2. Click on the "Reset" button in Odin (or close and re-open it), in PDA select "recovery-cwm-touch-6.0.1.2-i9300.tar", make sure only "F.Reset Time" and "Auto Reboot" are checked, and flash it. If everything goes OK, you should now have CWM instead of Stock recovery.
3. Take any microSD card, any size, and put THIS file on the root of the microSD using a card reader or whatever you prefer - but be careful, copy the zip as it is - do not unzip it.
4. Insert the memory card in the phone, enter recovery*, and select "Install zip from External Storage" and choose the file you put on the root of the card (by the way, it's a 4.0.4 downgrade bootloader), it should flash in a second, the phone will restart, and that's it!
5. Download and flash 4.0.4 Stock FW using Odin (i used "I9300XXBLH1_OXEBLF1.zip"), everything should go OK, and the phone will be bootable again.
*(my phone didn't wanted to enter recovery the old fashioned way using 3-button combo, but i managed to enter recovery from charging mode, by connecting the charger on a switched off phone, and as soon it starts charging press Vol Up + Home + Power, and when the FIRST Logo (Galaxy S III GT-I9300) appears, let go of the power button, keep pressing the Vol Up + Home, and it enters recovery).
