Pay for root/WiFi hotspot - HTC EVO 3D

So to prevent getting flammed over dumb ??, does anybody do this via RDP? I am willing to pay! I have been reading in the shadows for a some time and have a good idea and have even DL the dev files but after the new update mad:), I just cant finger out how to move foward. All i am looking to do is remove bloatware and use moblie teather/WiFi hotspot so I can use my TF201 on the road and maybe a few other things (nothing crazy).

How much you willing to pay?

Hboot 1.50 can only be rooted with the HTCDEV unlock method. Instructions here, not hard, just read through a few times and follow all the directions.

question for you.
was considering htc's method.
with the biggest problem on the nets being old/out of date info...
(i saw jtniggle's latest edit was dec 7th)
what's your feeling on the set of instructions he has up?
thanks!
will also read through his thread, of course. but, another informed opinion never hurts.

well i just followed the instructions here ---> http://htcevohacks.com/htc-evo-3d-hacks/how-to-root-evo-3d-2-08-651-2-and-later-htc-unlock-method/
(i respond better to video/tut)
zedomax is a good guy i remember him rom my EPIC touch 4g days
i smashed my phone and ended up getting a brand new asurion replacement and it came with hboot 1.5
i had to update via RUU 2.17 because the "unlock bin code" wouldnt stick
either method is still ok
but i would recommend using TWRP 2.0 instead of 1.1 or what ever it was
all you have to do is download TWRP 2.0 rather than the old one and apply it the same way through fastboot
pm me if you (or ANYONE) needs any help or has questions (took me about 20 minutes to do on my own)
EDIT*
on a general note i would NEVER pay for something that is found free, i almost paid 100 bucks to have my evo 3d flashed to boost mobile till i did a 2 night research quest and figured it out

i like zedomax's guide because ALL files are in one place and its a little simpler than the one in the sticky
my guess is you didnt have the drivers installed or didnt have the phone in "fastboot"

I know i overlooked something some place.

but now since we got the 2.17 update you must apply the RUU before using the HTC unlock bin..
i tried to update OTA rather than running the RUU but to no avail the unlock bin wouldnt stick or allow me to get to the unlock screen on my phone... but after reading Reapers post i did the RUU update and POOF it stuck

Don't do anything at all to the phone until (hopefully) bftb0 responds here with detailed instructions. Absolutely do not try to run the RUU from a PC to try to re-flash the stock phone ROM, it could brick it in this instance.
bftb0 will want to know what HBoot version you are on. 1.49 S=OFF, 1.47 S=ON, or what.

Thanks, like I said hopefully btbf0 will chime in here. He is the expert at unbricking. Be comforted by the fact that more than likely it is not really bricked, just a little hiccup that's more than likely recoverable.
btbf0's first step will likely detail how you can go from 1.49 S=ON to 1.49 S=OFF. Having S-OFF enables you even more choices for unbricking.
Probably the easiest thing would just to put the flashback pb(blahblah)img.zip on the SD card and boot with the volume button down.
But I'd wait for bftb0 to chime in.
hell i wouldn't mind getting s-off on my own phone... didn't realize we could do that... been a while since i looked into it though

Did one of you break into my apartment last night and fix it?

I definitely appreciate the help even though the phone decided to fix itself... would you recommend flashing the s=off bootloader next time I update my ROM to provide increased recovery ability or no?
Addendum : from what I understand it will allow me to flash stuff from hboot or am I misunderstanding?
Edit 2 : does nand save the bootloader too?

I would recommend achieving S=OFF as soon as you're comfortable in doing so. Just please be careful and ask questions first if you have any doubt.
I'm definitely not the expert, so someone else might have to answer some of your questions.
1. I believe that's true re: flashing from hboot.
2. Nandroid does NOT save the bootloader, ever.

[Guide] Flashing the ENG bootloader after s-off

Some people might want to get rid of the modified bootloader after running the revolutionary beta to get s-off. It is pretty easy.
Also if you run a RUU you will need to run this to get proper s-off.
1. Get s-off
1a. I recommend not useing clockwork mod and instead installing TeamWin Recovery Project2 .Download the eng bootloader and put it in the root of your sd-card
Link-> PG86IMG_eng-hboot.zip
Rename it to be PG86IMG.zip3. Disable quickboot in system power settings
Shutdown the phone, hold down the volume down button and hit the power/hold button4. Once in the bootloader hitting volume up will ask if you want to update, hit volume up again to accept and then reboot.5. Remove or rename the PG86IMG.zip in order to get into the bootloader again, as it will always try to apply the update.

Whats the difference? Mine says eMMC H.Boot
The eng bootloader has s-off stock, and has more fastboot options. It also removes anything that revolutionary did in the bootloader to get s-off.

When people make recommendations like this, I have to question why? Does CWM brick phones if you use this method? Is there a performance issue when trying this?
Not to be an ass or anything but you have 2 total post in 2 months. Please elaborate this recommendation before you have hundreds of thousands of people following your recommendation. Personal experiences as well as any confirmed bugs that others have experienced would be good.

You know what f**k it, i'm not going to get into any internet wars for something that is not mine but never said anythuing was wrong with revolutionary, let's get that straight. I have used CWM for evolution, epic, e3d, and Asus TF. Never had anything go wrong. So if some says not to use it, I'd like to know if I need to seek an alternative for each device. No I'm not going to search/read any he said she said post on the internet to find an answer. If the answer has to do with people and not the actual programs themselves, then the recommendation is mute.
Thanks on the steps btw
And to clarify, revolutionary is the only method to get s-off right now. There are 2 recoveries available after the s-off: CWM and TWRP.

Are you saying that Sprint can somehow poll our devices and deduce what bootloader is installed? Or do you mean a Sprint rep with hands-on access? If the latter, I'm fairly certain they would suspect something was up when they saw S-OFF and the ENG bootloader. Either one would be a sure sign that the phone was something other than stock.

Well, most of us who got our E4G on release day and rooted immediately didn't like early versions of CWM because it wouldn't wipe properly or completely sometimes (giving rise to ridiculous multi-wipe scripts). That and all the associated wonkyness that would follow could be eliminated before it began by simply using Amon Ra and avoiding CWM like the plague...
...even though I've used CWM successfully on devices that have no Amon Ra given our collective early experiences with it (and absolute lack of problems with stable versions of Amon Ra) on the E4G we never used anything but Amon Ra and never had any problems....but we did with CWM at one point.
That's likely why he said it and is why you hear that a lot still. Lots of us E4G guys jumped to E3D immediately. Even though CWM fixed that problem I hear we wouldn't know, we used Amon Ra with nary a problem.

hey guys just looking for some info i am bummed i have to get a new phone and i am guessing that it will come with the new hboot. does the power and volume down take you into hboot if your not rooted? if not how can i check if i got it. i read a little bit of the unlock for the new hboot in the one thread but all the posts kinda confused me does it actually unlock it i love the way i can just flash stuff on my phone through recovery now the other way seems to be a pain in the ass lol.
and is that unlock method for after the htc unlock? and if the phone comes with the new hboot will it come with the htc method? sorry for the ton of questions lol. just not entirely sure about the new stuff. just wanna be prepared for when phone comes tomorrow or next.
thank you in advance i know i will get the help i need from you guys

What I'm thinking is with HBOOT 1.50 revolutionary won't work and there will have to be a completely different way to root, just like what Revolutionary did.
I was thinking that it might be pointless to crack 1.50 hboot for now with ICS coming soon right? Maybe they are holding of because it would be alot of work for nothing when its going to be updated. Correct me if im wrong hehe

[Q] ***Security Warning***

Alright, so I've seen this error before and done plenty of searches and tutorials, and here is where I'm left off:
I have an HTC Thunderbolt and I was getting tired of Das BAMF RC 4.9, so first I wanted to flash BAMF's SoaB to check Sense 3.5, but the OS felt laggy even after waiting for everything to update. So from that point forward I was gonna go with CM7, but it wouldn't flash. I tried both versions in the XDA forums, and no luck, always got the (bad) and then installation aborted.
I flashed the RUU and figured I'd update Verizon's OTAs and then root again. (mistake I'm sure). I had to follow a new root process from the Windows side of my Macbook Pro. The root went fine, but once again, nothing I had downloaded would flash. After finishing a wipe and rebooting, my screen popped up to the infamous "security warning".
Seeing guides online I attempted to flash:
-my original MR1 RUU
-AndroidPolice_PG05IMG_Mecha_2-1.11.605.3
-AndroidPolice_PG05IMG_Mecha_2-2.11.605.3
-AndroidPolice_PG05IMG_Mecha_2-3.11.605.3
No dice, it would get to "checking PG05IMG.zip", load up, then return to main screen. Unplugging the TBolt made the ***Security Warning*** go away, but still no RUU's would flash. So here I am, none of the RUU's, old or new, will flash to my device and it won't boot to anything but hboot.
Fixing would be nice to grab money for it, but at this point, I'm thinking about waiting for Galaxy Nexus. Any suggestions?
First of, Am terribly sorry about your ordeal. secondly, I am unable to comment on a possible fix for resolving your issue. Since you did state that you're waiting for the GNexus to come out, May I suggest checking out this site for "possibly" the Baddest android to come out maybe early next month..Check out this site (http://www.releasedates.co/product/motorola-droid-razr-release-date-0)..Again, sorry about your issue. RUUs scare the crap out of me and I keep my distance!! I rooted correctly the first time around and that was scary enough. Hope it all works out for you. PM a "Known" dev within TB's forums and am sure you'll get a quicker answer rather than waiting for one to discover your Thread
Thank you for the condolences. lol.
I looked at the RAZR a bit, but I with my current fiasco, I don't really want to root for a while (because I just don't need it), I'm super stoked for ICS, and the Nexus is supposedly nearly bloatware-free. Given that RAZR is such a running Verizon name, I almost expect it to have even more Bloatware out of the box, and the Bionic hype, release, and quick fall from grace makes me a little leery of Motorola right now. I figure I had a MotoDroid X, then an HTC TBolt, so now I'll give Samsung a shot. But I suppose someone may attempt to sell me on the RAZR, so I say "give it your best shot".
Great minds do think a like and Am not completely sold on it yet either.. for most of the reasons you've stated. The specs however, are given me "Tunnel" vision though and I hope I can wait till the first batch and any major issues get ironed out before my "Non Patient" self decides to get it..Bionic was definitely a "BIG" hype and I personally didn't even think of getting it and I don't regret one bit getting my TB. Am kinda a sense guy but CM7's latest got me trippin now cuz I've got it setup so damn nice and its Blazing Fast and smooth ..I guess I didn't do a good job selling you on DR and I wouldn't try it cause that would be "Hypocritical" of me..LOL
Haha, don't worry. I've got the "tunnel vision" for the GN. I heard the words "ICS" "Bloatware-free" and "Dual-core optimized" and I was sold. You seem like you know your technology very well. Don't suppose you have a Google+ I could add you on?
In fact, I am on G+ but to be honest, Am not much for the social apps and not exactly sure on using it..I haven't given it much effort. I may be the only one in this world not on FB LOL
Please see this thread for a possible fix. Fix is on Post # 5. Please share your results.

Unfortunately, those were the first two RUU's I attempted to flash :/ no dice
You said you flashed an ruu and then gained root.
1. Which ruu did you flash?
2. And which root method did you use?
3. When you boot into bootloader does it say locked or unlocked?
4. And which bootloader version does it show?
5. Are all your root applications working?

Is there anyway you can hit me up on chat somewhere. You have the bootloader used before the phone was released 0.95.0000. This is why you are getting the security warning. The released version was 1.04.0000. From my understanding, you are not supposed to downgrade the bootloader lower than that released version. PM me your IM info and I'll gladly try to help you.

I added you on messengers. Thank you for any and all help you can offer!

Perm root? I swear I read that it was achieved (not S=Off)

I saw somewhere that perm root has been achieved, but it is not being released because it could be hard to fix if you screw up the system partition.
Heres the thing though...
Don't we have the recovery files that can reflash the shipping OS version?
Also seeing as how we do not have S=Off that means we can't screw up the hboot or really flash anything that is "unautorized".
That means we could fix any issues by reflashing the stock software right?
Or is the perm root not being released because the method is too difficult.
If that is the case, I understand not wanting a bunch of casual flashers/rooters attempting this, but there are those of us that can actually follow instructions well. Heck I even rooted my old Nexus One without using the official unlock command. It involved switching SD cards at just the right moment while running special scripts for ADB and other craziness.
Saw this today,
http://www.androidauthority.com/how...android-2-3-4-gingerbread-in-one-click-36933/
Bottom of article states you can install custom ROM's

I think the other part of this issue is that he (Evil DevNull -- oops I said a bad word around here) is using an exploit in the sim card system. He said he burned up two cards doing this. Probably not a very safe method at this point along with the other potential problems.

Their twitter conversations have a youtube video showing root, have not watched it yet.
The title says Resound gets permanent root.
Sent from my Galaxy Tab 10.1
The dude that did the youtube video is kolahib001. Says he has perm root on one of the other sites in the rezound forum. I have not seen any proof of s-off on youtube or another site.

If they can release a perm root solution that is safe with S-On, I'll take it. That's all I want right now, and I'm sure a lot of people would be very happy with it for now as well.
Good luck.

It is assumed he has a Factory rooted device, or possibly that a glitch in the "Root Checker" program still shows it was rooted after a reboot when it really wasn't. Also, it seems rather shady that he's already asking for money:
Would it be greedy of me to ask for a $5 donation from 500 people?
I really want this set of rims for Christmas.
Am I asking for too much?

He started a new thread on the other Dev forums (the 1st one was locked) and we've asked him to Open Titanium before and after the reboot, as well as show us the Bootloader screen to see if it's a factory S-Off/Rooted phone or not. Also, we've asked him for his method. Just seems very shady to me.
Speaking of money...anyone willing to organize and spearhead donations to the developer or group that achieves s-off?
I know this was done on other phones where people pledged $x amount of money.

Pretty much. I wouldn't be asking anyone for a dime period let alone prior to providing a full disclosure of the methods used to obtain root status.
Just like everyone else....I'll believe it when I see it.
Blah... perm root S=On is good enough for me right now if it can happen.
I'll pitch in a few bucks for that... I'll throw a few more for S=Off.
First time since the G1 that I had a device before root was achieved. I wanted to take advantage of the penny sale at Verizon is why I picked it up now. I would have gotten a galaxy s 2 had Verizon offered one. Oh well, every HTC so far has been broken eventually. I hope we don't have to wait too long though.
There was already a donation thread started somewhere I believe. But Evil was the only verbal dev working on root/s-off and said he didn't want money.

This is dangerous. If something happens to /system you're screwed because without recovery it can't be..... well recovered.
There is already a temp root method that you can use to kill the bloat. Outside of that root doesn't really provide you with any other abilities except maybe to steal wifi tethering without subscribing.
Without s off you wont be able to overclock, flash custom Roms or alternate radios....so why do people think they need to have perm root without s-off?
There are plenty other things you can do with Root without S-Off.
THe EVO 3D with hboot 1.50 had the HTC Methosd which left u with an unlocked bootloader and S-On and Flashing kernels and such had to be done thru Fastboot Commands, Which was if the ROM had a Custom Kernel as a Default. Now JoeyKrim created the Flash Image GUI which was a hella of a creation for the people who were stuck in this position. Check out his app if u havent yet. If for some strange reason this was tyhe only resort for us, it wouldnt be bad at all

I agree... it wouldn't bother me. If only HTCDev.com worked.

Yeah no kidding. I doubt Verizon would let it push thru too. Ahh well. We'll just have to wait for it the old fashion way
