Hello! I buy ASUS Transformer Prime+DOCK a few days ago...When I put it at the dock he does not charging tab battery???When dock charcing battery and than i go play games like GTA3 and after few minutes dock again go stop charging my tab?? Way I have this problem??? It is normaly or not??? can you try to play game when you get charging your prime from dock and report me if you have some problem!? SRY FOR BAD ENG.
your dock starts to charge the tablet after about 70%.
so once your tablet reaches 70% you will notice the icon on the bottom right to indicate the battery is being transferred to the tablet.
so the dock's battery gets used by transferring its battery to the tablet around 70%

So I've got my dock and transformer, and its been a couple days.
I found yesterday that the dock didn't really last as long as I thought it would. It seemed halfway through the day the dock stopped charging the transformer, even though both were fully charged the night before. Half the time the dock was used with the transformer, and the other half it sat on the side while I read ebooks or whatever.
When I wasnt using it, I didnt have the flip-part that the transformer sits into pushed down into a "closed" position, if you get my meaning. It was sitting up, as if open, but not docked.
Do you think the battery was discharging while its open?
you're on to something...
The same thing just happened to me. I fully charged my dock last night, then unplugged and left it with the hinge in the open position. I came back today, locked in the tablet and went out to run errands. i'm looking at my battery life percentages drop and the light indicator on the side of the dock is blinking red. unless the dock was discharging while the hinge was left on docking position...
Well Ive been leaving my dock closed today, and it seems to be holding the charge. So I think Im right.

There's also an issue with power consumption. The dock doesn't exactly have an on/off switch, so even when not in use it'll eat up power as it waits to see if you've docked an Eee Pad to it. ASUS expects to address this with a future firmware update for the dock next month. The update will put the unit into an ultra low power state when docked if the tablet is in standby, and power down completely when not attached to the tablet.

I had the transformer powered off the whole day with the dock attached. I came back from work to find the dock battery light blinking orange signalling low battery. I'll have to do more tests, but it seems the dock was discharging even when the tablet was powered down.
This will be very annoying if you can't leave it docked.
Also wish there was a battery meter to show the actual battery %. I will not be happy running the battery downto less than 10% before the light comes on
i had an external hd attached to m dock. after unmounting the drive and removing the tf, the dock was still feeding power to the hd.
on a previous test, my phone would not charge via the dock while the tf was not connected. i didn't see if it continued the charge after removing the tf at that time.

What he said. I doubt it has anything to do with the position of the hinge. The dock has active electronics in it that - for lack of a more detailed description - does something when the TF is connected, and apparently has an active 'standby' mode, which unfortunately consumes some power from it's battery.
just FYI
Dock update is in testing to a few users on here. Should resolve disconnect issues, and add battery gauge for the dock as well.
Hopefully this addresses the power discharging issue as well. Haven't heard anyone comment on it yet however.
I don't know if i am wrong, but i was lead to believe when the tablet is connected to the keyboard dock. the tablet will use the battery on the keyboard before the tablet. but when i open my tablet i notice the tablet battery is lower than the keyboard battery. is there a setting i can change to make it use the dock first?
I'm having this same issue.
Upon receiving the dock I tested it out and when connected, it worked fine; two battery icons appear on the bottom-right, with the arrows in between flashing to indicate it is transferring charge from the dock to the tablet. After charging the dock to full and connecting it to the tablet, the arrows are not flashing and the tablet battery continues to drain as if the dock was not plugged in.
All other dock features work fine (typing, trackpad, usb...). The dock also says it was at 100%. Currently the dock is at 98% while the tablet is at 71% (and dropping).
I'm wondering if there is perhaps a threshold that the tablet has to reach before the dock decides to transfer charge to it?
Yes there is a threshold and your just above it , its 70%.
There's another post that I can't find at the moment that describes how it works. Apparently the tablet will run down to 70%, at which point the dock will charge it back to 100%, then the process will repeat until the dock runs out.
This is a change from the original Transformer+dock, where the dock would run down all the way to keep the tablet charged. Maybe it's something to do with battery conditioning. After all, if the dock constantly runs to 0% charge, that's a full cycle. Maybe ASUS intends for the dock and tablet to both be charged mid-cycle, which is better for each battery long-term.
Thanks for the quick replies! So glad it isn't a bug but a feature
question regarding that. if the dock is flat, does that mean it can no longer be used to input into the tablet?

Nope. It'll continue working, it'll just be drawing power from the tablet rather than feeding it.
Im curious as to what controls when the dock charges the prime as Ive noticed that it doesnt charge autmatically once the two are docked.

Don't have mine yet but people are saying that the dock will let the tablet get down to 70% then it will charge the tablet back up to full, then wait for it to get down to 70% again and so on.

thanks mate
Yep, the dock starts charging the tablet when tablet drops below 70%.
It charges up to 90%.
But note that the dock also needs battery for itself, so if you have a full tablet battery the dock battery will drain as well as the tablets battery. So if you want to use the dock as mobile battery and not as a keyboard it is the best to dock the keyboard when the tablet reached about 30 or 40%.
Otherwise you will wate energy.
Also, once the dock gets down to about 30%, it will not re-charge the tablet until the tablet also gets down to 30% (guessing it's more efficient for the dock to power itself while it can). There's a 2 battery monitor widget on the market which will plot the charge for you.
the built in widget monitors both batteries when they're connected, and the quick settings in the notification panel also shows both.
but the few apps on the market are smaller widgets if that's something you want

could you point me in the direction for such an app?
so..i effin love my prime
i effin love ics
this is not another or new complaint...just soething i find odd and i'm sure there is a setting or something somewhere that i am missing...
what it is is that have my dock connected to my tablet...i did the firmware upgrade for the keyboard
i charged my dock for 7.5 hours...then connected it to my tablet, which was at 91%..
now, an hour later, i am at 85% on my tablet, still at 99% on my dock
in my battery settings, it says i haven't charged my tablet in about 8 hours..while usually when you connected your tablet to a dock, it only goes for a few minutes without saying it was connected
basically, my dock is not charging my tablet
is there anything i have to click on or change so that it does charge it?
my girlfriend's tf101 stays at 100 or 99% and the dock goes down instead...so what do i have wrong?
thanks for the help
The dock won't start charging the Prime unless it's at 70% or lower. So if you dock when the Prime is at 91% as in your example, it won't start charging until the Prime hits 70%. If you dock the Prime at 70% or lower, it will start charging immediately.
This is distinctly different than the original Transformer dock, which will maintain the tablet at 100% until the dock runs out. My guess is that this is to avoid creating unnecessary full discharge cycles on the dock.
thanks for the clarification...should have checked deeper in the functionality...thanks!
How about the dock itself? Is it supposed to be charging at all times until fully charged? Mine shows 98% and is not charging.

My experience is that, like all/most Android devices, if you plug the dock in when it's between 95%-99% full, it won't charge. If you plug it in at 94% or less, it'll charge to 100%.
Mine doesn't charge either. Tablet sitting at 65%, Dock 100%
Looks like I'll just have to bring it back. :/

Yup, sure does.
hi guys,
so when i'm at home i found myself using the prime more and more and often with the dock for writing posts and also for using it as a stand while watching youtube or playing a game with gamepad.
Since the dock empties itself as soon as the Tablet dropped to ~75% i'm a bit concerned. I know that li-po batteries dont like to stay at low voltage/low charge for long times.
So the Tablet is at 80% and the dock is empty. 80% can mean days of medium usage, so the dock will be at 0% for a pretty long time.
Should i prevent that and always charge the dock as soon as it runs out? Would be nice to know how the dock handles voltage and charge. It could also be that it still has plenty reserve charge when it displays 0%..
any thoughts?*
Shouldn't be a problem. The dock is going to use the power of the tablet to power itself.

i don't think any of us have had the TF201 long enough to have a dock battery degrade, maybe TF101 owners can advise. but your concern is fundamentally sound. the dock has a lithium ion battery in it like any other. all li-on batteries are prone to having their cells dry out if they spend a lot of time fully discharged. the net effect is that the battery will diminish it's capacity over time.
asus made a good design decision with the TF201 by not having the dock charge the tablet until the tablet depletes to 70% capacity, because li-on batteries also degrade when constantly being held at 100% charge. but imo they should have put in another threshold for the dock battery, say at 25%, where the dock stops charging the tablet until the tablet gets dangerously low. in lieu of this, my personal opinion is that it is wise to give the dock a charge (or disconnect it from the tablet) once it dips below 20%.
