I have a Tab 10.1 with Task 13 slim and pershoots kernel. The device works fine but I have encountered a strange problem when I leave the Tab plugged into the Samsung keyboard dock while it is attached to the power cord.
If the power plug is disconnected, The Tab will eventually go to sleep just as it would if it were not plugged into the keyboard dock. If I leave the dock connected to power, the Tab will charge but at some point after it becomes fully charged, the device will lock up, requiring a reboot to get things going again.
Is this normal? I do not think the Tab locks when left attached directly to the power cord. The problem only seems to occur when sitting in the keyboard dock with the power cord attached.
If anyone has an idea why this is happening or how to fix the problem, I would really appreciate some help.
Did you use that USB charge hack? My first step would be undoing it if so. Also disabling any apps that have anything to do with charging may help.
As far as I know, I have not installed a USB hack but I think that there may be something that allows USB charging in the Pershoot's kernel. I would hope that this is not the issue since being able to charge from a USB source is a very nice feature.
I have had the same issue ever since being on 3.2 honeycomb (any ROM, i've tried several). It didn't happen on 3.1 so here's hoping they fix it with ics or another update.

I am happy to know that I am not the only one with this problem. The obvious solution is to not leave the device in the dock after it is fully charged but this is really inconvenient.
Hopefully one of the smart guys in the class will wade in with an explaination and (hopefully), a solution.
Just FYI, I've been running the CM9 2/3/12 kang and haven't had this issue. Seems to be limited to the 3.2 roms.

So I git tired of the CM9 bugs and the 3.2 sleep issues and reverted back to 3.1 (UEKME). I haven't had the sleep problem yet after running it for 2 days. I hope official ICS gets here soon. If not, maybe they can release a 3.2 rom without the keyboard dock sleep and wifi reconnect issues.

I think that I have found a solution to the problem. I cannot take credit for this semi-fix. I found it in a thread in another forum and it seems to work.
Go to settings/applications/development and put a check in the "stay awake" box. This will cause the Tab to stay awake while charging. If you want to put the device to sleep, tap the power button. Tap again to wake.
I have been playing with this solution for a day and seems to work.

My fascinate will not turn on unless its plugged in. Once it turns on it runs fine. If you hold the power button to turn it on it will show the battery icon, but will not turn on. If you plug it in it will turn on and work fine. It also thinks its in usb debugging all the time. not plugged into anything and it thinks its debugging.
Very strange.
Are you on Froyo? Using a rom? You might have the screen of death. If you have clockwork recovery you can turn it on that way.

My son's had the same thing, left the battery out for a day with the intention of returning it under warranty, put the battery back in and it fired right up without an issue, and havent had one yet.
Another question, are you using the stock battery or an after market job?
Without one of the tweaked kernels, the after market batteries wont work at all...
I forgot about this thread. My problem is when the phone is turned off, it will not turn on unless its plugged in. you push the power button and you see a picture of an empty battery. You plug it in and wait for the battery to turn green, and the phone will fire right up. Tried a new battery, and nothing. I am going to call vzw and see what they say.
Any resolution on this? I am having the exact same issue with my Infuse (AT&T).

NP I had to do it all the time on my wifes alias.
Did you try a different battery?
At this point I would go stock and see if a verizon store will try another battery for you.
Good luck!

exact same problem as quoted above.
Some times the USB port gets gunk in it, try taking a piece of paper fold it a few times make sure the width is like half the size of the usb micro jack and slide it in to the usb port. fold it so it is snug but not tight move back and forth, do both top and bottom of the port but be careful on the thin side. basically your cleaning the contacts to remove and film.
Good Luck
If that still doesn't do the job chances are it's a hardware issue.

This is a very accurate description of the issue. I too am having the problem however it is on AT&T captivate. In my case, it only occurs when I am using a MIUI ROM. I have flashed multiple ROMS, both prior to and after discovering the problem and only have this issue when using MIUI ROM (Which is awesome in every other way). Two other things I would note. I have purchased another battery and it behaves identically, and MIUI drains batteries like a mother. Even swapping out a completely charged battery does not resolve the issue. Maybe someone brighter can explain how the phone "reads" the battery charge level while off.
does anyone have this problem with 'stock' phone?
I'm having the exact same issue with my Continuum. Thought maybe the USB port had issues, but it charges a battery just fine. It just won't acknowledge it's charged and turn on unless it's connected to a power source. Without a cable plugged in it just shows the big empty battery icon with a non-moving progress wheel on top of it for 3-4 seconds then screen goes black. With a cable plugged in it displays that, then changes to show the true charge of the battery at which time I can start up the phone. I restored my phone to factory defaults earlier today, but this problem persists.
Has anybody found any solution to this?

I have the same issue with my Samsung Epic. Anyone find a fix?
I also have this problem. I have discovered, however, that while I must plug the phone into a USB cable, that USB cable need not be plugged into a power source or anything at all. I can reliably (100% of the time) power up with a USB cable just laying in my drawer. I can also reliably (100% of the time) not power up without plugging into a USB cable.
In other news, I have also discovered that certain low-level actions tends to screw up lots of things. I can Odin just fine. I can flash ROMs, kernels, etc. just fine. However, I cannot restore a nandroid. Whenever I restore a nandroid, as best as I can tell, my partitioning gets all jacked up. When this happens, I can't do anything but boot into recovery (although once this happens, I can no longer flash ROMs) or Odin. Doing a full Odin flash restores functionality (in the sense that we all see where we need a USB cable to boot up), though. So ultimately, I think these phones have defective memory and that's what is ultimately causing this.
I bought this phone a couple days ago for $100 so I'm not out much (and can probably get most of that back even acknowledging the issues). Sure would have been nice for that person to have told me there were these issues. But oh well. C'est la vie!

BTW, curious, what radio are you all using? I have only used EH03. I haven't yet tried EC09...
I have the 16 GB WiFi version for Christmas with the keyboard dock... before I rooted I would leave my tablet on the dock overnight, but it will shutdown during the night and I have to press and hold the power button to turn it on. I tried rooting it and no avail there. I tried charging it straight from the outlet, and it works perfectly fine. The only way my tablet won't shut down if I am streaming a radio station through Winamp. So is there any fixes? (Running on GALAXY TASK 11)
any answers?
So if you plug it directly into the wall outlet it doesn't turn off? On the keyboard dock it shuts off? I would guess that the GT isn't recognizing the dock as an AC charger like being plugged into the outlet does. There might be a work around such as force charging from usb. Do a search for that and set it up. Let us know if it works.
Just my guess though. If you can't find how to force usb charge let me know and I'll get the process for you. just don't know of the top of my head. It's somewhere around Pershoots kernel thread I think.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using one finger.
When I connect to regular wall outlet it would not shut down. If I dock the tablet to the keyboard, without the dock being connected to the wall charger, It wouldn't shut down. However if I connect my charger to the dock and I dock my tablet, my tablet would shut down by itself after a time of inactivity. So my question is how to charge it on the dock without the tablet shutting down. If you think that you think that foce usb charging maybe the fix... pleasePM me because i am extremely busy with school work
also it can still charge...its just when docked...it will turn off by it self.
I have had the same issue exactly, and even went back to the shop to exchange first the keyboard and then the Tab itself. I still had the issue. I finally decreased the number of instances this happened, but did not fully solve the issue, by going to overcome rom. I would welcome anybody with a final solution though.
I know that the ics rom works fine...but thats an obvious answer.....but i actually use the cameras
I have the same problem. The Tab seems to shut off when it reaches 100% charge in sleep mode while in the keyboard dock. If the Tab is active, doing something such as playing music in Pandora or a similar activity, the Tab does not shut down, even if the charge level shows 100%.
In another thread, someone posted that they thought that this problem could be related to 3.2 because it does not occur in ICS or 3.1. Whatever the cause, I am looking forward to finding a solution. I have stopped using the keyboard dock as a charging station due to this issue.
Bob
is it possible to find the problem on 3.2 ..and replace it with the 3.1 version...and make them do the "forbidden dance"? (noob status.. right here)
I had the issue on 3.1 as well.
I had the same problem on every 3.2 rom I tried. It didn't happen on any 3.1 builds and it hasn't happened on the cm9 preview.

Bump! Does anyone know how to really fix this? and are we going to face this problem on the official ICS?
Yes, also on ics 4.04 I have the issue. Now it is 100% repeatable.
tab on mains ---> fine
tab on keyboard (either witout power or on pc usb) ---> fine
tab on keyboard on mains ---> hangs!!
Agreed. But when the devs get the camera working on JB maybe it wont happen on JB... maybe its a touchwiz or camera problem
Samsung Tablet 10.1 Shutdown when docked using ICS
I have experienced the same issue with the Samsung Tablet 10.1 32GB WiFi only using ICS 4.0.4. when docked to the Samsung keyboard GT-P7510. The tablet will freeze randomly when docked. It does not matter if plugged into power or not. If the screen goes blank, you must hold the start button down for 20 seconds to get the system to reboot. The system is not going into sleep mode. It is turning itself off. This random shutdown issue is annoying. Has anyone determined how to fix this issue? Should a bluetooth keyboard be purchased to solve this problem?
If the NT just stopped charging any suggestions?
I know the charger is working because it works on the phone with a different cable. Also the phone adapter won't charge it, nor the pay for minutes things at the airport.
My thought is it is hardware related internal to the nook itself.
Thanks,
Fixed - If you have a similar problem use Mini Info App to toggle charging and see if it helps.
New info - charging Thurber off again. I toggled in Mini Info and had to restart Mini Info to turn charging back on. I have now taken Mini Info off home screen and will not use in case it is the problem. Not uninstalled yet, just off.
Are you using a cable other than the nook specific one?
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2
Yes. Nook cable is used from two different charging bricks with no charging indicator. Don't get the animated battery and MiniInfo indicate nook is discharging. At about 69% and in case someone has a suggestion I want enough juice to implement, otherwise return to stock. Had the nook since December so I doubt any warranty.
Thanks,
Bill
okay... it does "sound" like you have a hardware issue. the nook's connector is a little bit longer than normal... is it wobbly ? are you getting the 'orange' or 'green' LED glow ?
Not wobbley. Mine has shown green all the time since a week after I got it in December.
I'm wondering if it could be something with the kernel and if going back to stock may work. I doubt anything short a a repair will make it right.
Thanks,
Bill
Charging after Return to Stock
Wonders will never cease! I used the "acclaim" modified zip to return to stock and the tablet started to charge. I'm going to let it get up to 100% then use the SD version of CWM to create a stock backup. I will then try to restore my CM7 internal rom and see if it is still charging.
I'll post results tomorrow.
Thanks,
Bill
Just out of curiosity, what ROM/Kernal were you running when you noticed this charging problem?
NVM...... It says CM7 right there in your post.
Running CM7 the April 24th Build. It was working great for a month or so then just stopped charging. The Nook charges with stock and with the CM9 with the 3xx Kernal. When I restored the CM7 24th version charging was not happening.
I'm going to try the older Team B version tomorrow

why not try the internal beta instead? works for both 8 and 16 GB variants
May do that. Really liked what I was using. Still there is a reason for the charging problem I want to track down.
Waiting for ICS or JB anyway.
Pilot Error
Charging fixed!!!
I have the Mini Info app and it has a button to turn charging off. I must have hit it when checking something.
Funny thing is in all other ROM's when charging is turned on they charge. I have to turn charging off on this version of CM7 for the Nook to charge.
It has been an interesting venture to say the least.
Hi,
I hope someone could point me into the right direction to solve one annoying issue with my SGS3. Every time when I fully charge it and disconnect charger it doesn't go into deep sleep due to "hostd" kernel wakelock. If I reload phone after charging - wakelock is not there and I have excellent battery life.
I had this problem with unrooted stock ROM and kernel, so I though that it might be a kernel issue and upgraded to Siyah kernel - but the issue is still there.
Unfortunately BBS (and google) doesn't provide more info about this wakelock. Does anybody have this issue? Is it a known problem?
Thanks!
Hmm, I've only had that as a wake lock when using a USB OTG cable and a USB DAC, strange that you'd get it without having anything plugged in.

Yes, very strange. Even if charger (or cable) somehow tricks phone to go into USB host mode, why does wakelock stay on after I unplugged it? I tried different cables and charges - same thing...
At the moment my only hope is JB update
Hi, I just installed HB 2.31 on my Asus TF201 and im having an issue. The problem is every time I plug it in to charge it keeps making the "ding" sound and coming out off sleep. Once it wakes its fine charges like normal till I let it go to sleep again, then same thing it dings and wakes up. I'm using the wall charger and this is on a fresh install. The problem only happens on this rom, works fine on stock and other custom roms. Sorry I would post this in the DEVDB but I don't have enough posts.

Usually caused by using a third party charger or, in my case, using US charger with UK adapter.
Not really a problem since it charges fine. If the screen coming on annoys you, put something over the top :good:.
