Kernels are included in custom roms. You can flash a different kernel if you want
Try this:
ROM: Nightly#15+
KERNEL: Thachtunganh kernel
RECOVERY: Amonra 3.06
Search it in this thread..

Recovery: Clockworkmod
ROM: CM7 Nightly
Kernel: already included in nightly...

Anyway you should be able to install mik's kernel on your stock ROM,franco.Kernel is mainly designed for Custom ROMs.

- flash a custom recovery (CWM or AmonRA) - the howtos are already here, read them. If you cannot be bothered, you can install ROM Manager and install CWM from its GUI. (Note: I got fastboot when I tried, so this ROM Manager thing is not really what I would personally recommend. )
- copy the kernel ZIP to root of your SD card
- reboot to recovery
- flash zip from there
- reboot
- done

I have already posted a thread about this, but i want to know that i have understand every thing.
My Android .Ver. is 2.2.1
1) I can root my device with SuperOneClick? YES? You should try Gingerbreak too used it when my o1 is till on froyo and its easier
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
2) SuperOneClick will do all the work, and when he finish my phone will be rooted? yeah phone will be rooted but you must update superuser too. i think it's binaries aren't updated
about ROM:
1) What is "Old BaseBand" ? Refers to baseband before you updated to gingerbread 2.3.3.
2) Those ROM's are good for my phone?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20340697
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946354 read reviews. if it matches your own way on how you will plan to use your phone then try it.
3) If those ROM are not good for my phone, what ROM should i install? idk im stuck with stock gb rom
4) Kernel: When i will install ROM,I have to install a custom Kernel Too? some roms have already packed with kernels. just remember .32 goes with .32 and .35 with .35 and the most important READ
5) After I rooted my phone,I installed Rom Manger.
Can i flash a ROM with ROM Manger?
thank you! Absolutely NO! just kidding.. yeah. its the easiest way to flash ROM to your phone
As far as I know.
Thanks.
But i still don't understand the Old BaseBand .
All O1 phones are Old BaseBand before they updated to 2.3.3?
So if my phone is android 2.2.1 he is old BaseBand?
If u have android 2.2.1 u can root using gingerbreak.
to root download gingef break
den instLl rom managed
install recovery ( make sure u hve wifi / fast net )
den choose any rom nd kernel
juat make sure kenel version nd roms kernel eg. mik 6.6.1 can use .35 kernel but 6.5.8 can !
i m dont suggestin rom & kernel bcoz i m also findin nice one !
i hope i helped !
press thanks !

U can install both of the roms as they support old baseband and it is not necessary to flash a diffrent kurnel with a rom
Since u have 2.2.1 root using gingerbreak and u need to flash recovery before flashing custom rom it is the first option in rom manager.

Hi, I am planning to isntall FXP146 over my stock .587 rom for my mini. My query is , do I need to install the rom before installing the custom kernel (like MESA) or the other way around? Or any order would do.
And which kernel is recommended for FXP if I am not into overclocking (MESA or Stock FXP) ??

You can use which you want, if you want more functions, use mesa.
You can flash kernel or rom first, normally this doesn't really matter. Only the clockworkmod version could change compared to the kernel you are using currently
Just flash the kernel then the rom or flash the rom then the kernel. You can use the kernel in the zip or mesa if u want more cpu governors & i/o scheduler like Mihahn said (better battery life too )
thanks guys for all the help.. yes i am using the MESA kernel, and i dont think anything can get better... loving cyanogenmod xD
help D:
umm I tried flashing fxp 146 but forgot to format data, now I am in boot loop and can only have fast boot, no cwm.
What should I do
ps: I am noob

First install a custom kernel. As most of custom rom required a custom kernel. So better have a custom kernel as you may need to switch to others custom rom in future. As for now, I personally recomended KernelPanic( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1861905 ). I use Panic with Real ICS V6 custom rom and they works like a charm. Mesa provide good battery lifes but lack of perfomances and bad sound quality(i tried it myself before turn to Panic). You may try Rage kernel and Krsh as well. But there are abit old now, haven't updated since last few months. But still they are good kernels. Do some research before taking action's always a good idea. Cheers!
Hi guys,
Someone can explain me why i should flash/install a custom kernel? Which benefits i should gain? Flashing a custom kernel delete my data? Or is like a software update ?
I need a custom rom to flash a custom kernel ? Or is the stock rom ok?
Is better a module's kernel o a unique kernel?
Hope someone can answer
Thank you

Kernel is the kind of mediator which talk between your OS and Hardware...
So changing Kernel do not change the OS,
Different Kernel gives different advantages, that is why you need to update Kernel.
A kernel module is an addition rip a kernel that sits in /system/lib and does something...

You can gain more speed, governors and I/O schedulers.
No, nothing will happen your data. You can experience bootloops if the your rom is not compatible with the kernel.
V2 kernel is compatible with stock rom and with several custom roms.

Ok, so i could install flar2's kernel module safely? without the risk that involve flashing New roms?
That because my stock rom have kernel version 3.0.21-g6c11713 , right?
In this way i should gain possibility of write in /system .. correct me if i have misunderstood
Thank you

Exactly.
In Asia & Europe Desire X's kernel version is 3.0.21-g6c11713 so you have to flash that one.
