hello
i am looking for wireless battery for our xperias. (EP500)
look this link:
http://www.letstalk.com/blog/post.htm?blogId=1214
anyone know where i can buy one?
regards
this is not a good option, because a wireless battery charge is sloooow, and live time of charge is short. sorry, my english is bad, i know
I would love to have this. No more ****ing around with cables, just lie the phone on a pad. I don't care if it charges in 1 hour or in 4 hours and i don't care about a slight reduction in capacity.
I don't think it's gonna be availabe any time soon though :-(
Hopefully someone smart will mod a battery with a powermat and write a guide on how to do it yourself.
thats awesome, if someone find this somewhere on the internet please post a link.
i think this is not a good idea
you gotta be kidding me
is it serious wireless battery???
Wireless battery? Really?
Do you mean portable charger?
You could build it yourself with the Palm Touchstone and a backcover of the Palm Pre.
There are some success stories and pictures here:

I can't ensure that the testpoints are the right ones, but currently it's working great and charges the battery with around 400mA. For an empty battery it takes 2-3 hours to full charge.
Sorry for not providing clickable links, but I'm not allowed to post links yet.

looks good
I don't recommend you that. Go and buy an another battery. I always hold one in my packet just in case :]
Agreed!

i just tried that. it's not that hard to build. it took some time, that everything fits in the cover.
2-3h to full charge realistic i think.
working well :good:
wow
wow really? but if it takes 2-3 hours for charging a 400mAh battery, it will take over a night or more for charging a 1160Mah (default mAh in mdpi devices) i will rather prefer my "wires" and 1-2 hours charging time
sorry for my bad english

Hi all,
I've been looking at a solar powered charger for my Jasjam, and the one that seems to catch my eye the most is this one called the "Scotty":
http://www.solartechnology.co.uk/acatalog/Scotty_Charger.html
I know that the limitation in USB Car Chargers about having to solder pins 4 and 5 to get it to charge will probably also affect this solar charger as well, but has anyone had any direct experience with either this one or another brand?
Can you get enough juice out of it to charge a Tytn / Jasjam?
Don't know about that one. But here's a recommended Solio one for mobile devices with press releases:
http://www.solio.com/v2/
thanks for that link, it looks pretty good as well, if not better given that it has a greater total solar panel area. The first one I found can swap the internal batteries for standard AA's for instant power if required which is what makes me lean towards that... hmm... decisions, decisions. I hate making choices like that! haha

Well, just another FYI for everyone here... I ended up getting the Solio Solar charger (http://www.solio.com/v2/).
Many thanks to Galaxys for the suggestion. It charges to almost full after a full day of sunlight and stores 1 and a half full charges for my Jasjam. It's great for weekends away and is small and compact for that extra peace of mind of having a portable charge. Unfortunately, word has gotten around that I now have it and occasionally some friends of mine who forget to charge their phones ask to use it.

iam looking for solar charger as well and got two questions regarding the solio. is the solio hard enough to take some outdoor activities (dirt/rain/drops) to a certain level and do i have to solder the pins in order to charge my tytn?
thanks

g'day!
It's a well made and solid little device, but by no means is it indestructible... I store it in a ziplock plastic bag just in case it gets wet. If it's raining, then I won't pull it out to use because there won't be enough sunlight anyway (but I guess you could cover it in something if you really wanted to).
Also, in regards to the pin soldering, I haven't had to do that. So far it has worked perfectly each time without it.
It does have one interesting feature which is good and bad at the same time. Once it detects that the phone is fully charged, it stops sending power to the device. I assume it does this to conserve the power in it's own battery (but I guess this stops you from using it as an "extended battery" for the phone.
So far I've used it to charge my Jasjam, Bluetooth GPS and a couple of other Motorola phones and it has worked each time.
If you've got any more questions, let me know. Hope this is useful.
hiho dinty,
thanks for the quick reply. It was indeed very helpful.
I am going to order my solio right now and looking forward to my next trip to the desert in november
cheers chaos42
what about human/mechanical chargers? wouldnt those work good too? at least for short burst charges... u know like those devices u shake and stuff

Maplin battery box hacked..
Maplin sell a battery box with solar panel in the lid.
I buy these, take out the panel which is on grp board & well made, wire a diode & charger plug & socket, & glue velcro loop all over the back.
They are cheap, give an open circuit output of 7.5 volts, and can flow up to 250 mA in bright sunshine.
They don't damage my phones or pdas, which in any case seem to have conditioning circuits in them.
Can buy at £15 usual price or £8 when on offer.
I am able to parallel any number of these together for more current, or in series to a cigar lighter smpsu to give a regulated 5 volts.
The panels can get wet, no problem, & the phone being charged stays dry inside a sandwich box.
I discovered that for Wizard/Hermes a current maximum of 1 amp has to be observed up to 80% charge, then reduce to 1/4 amp to top it. For other pdas the current max is lower.
Hope this helps.

The post is quite old, but nevertheless i will post a reply just in case someone bumps into it and thinks - Wow! a wind charger, let me search the web and get one for myself.
Well, in the latter case stay away from Uniross brand windchargers(I own one)
I have written a review in Amazon. Here it is:
Well, i was very excited to buy this gadget (costed me 30 EUR in Paris ). I bike a lot and this was also meant to be used for outdoor hiking activities.
But..
First of all the lack of any type of power meter renders the device unreliable to the point of uselessness. You take the charger (with a 1200 mAh battery inside) and you have no idea how much of the battery is filled. You can put it to charge from mains, and maybe be shure that it is charged in some 3-4 hours (not mentioned in manual). But then, if i needed an external battery, there are definitely better choices.
Second: You cannot charge your device and charge the device simultaneously, nor you can charge your device "on the go"-directly from wind..
Third: You cannot turn on the quite weak led lights in front of the device and charge it simultaneously (so, for example if you bike in the evenings when it is late, you have to chose, either you use it's light for safety, or you charge the device.)
Forth: in the description on Uniross site it is said "Can also be charged through a computer or through wall plug". Well, it can be only charged using supplied wall plug, no wire for computer charging..
Fifth: It almost has no effect on my HTC HD2 (1230 mAh). The charging current for my device is quite hight ~ 1 A. So make sure your device will agree on some 500 mA of charging current (most of them will probably)
Sixth: It does need quite strong wind to charge, it starts to charge when your speed (in no wind condition) gets around 15 km/h. People say it needs some 15 km of ride to be fully charged. How they managed to estimate that the charger is fully charged - i have no idea.
Seventh: The charging indicator (which tells you that the speed is enough for charging), is placed right in front of the charger, so to see if it does charge you have to dangerously lean forward or ask the aproaching bikers if they see a green LED light- truly stupid design flaw.
Eighth (the most annoying and stupid): YOU HAVE TO CHARGE IT FROM MAINS FOR SOME 20% BEFORE YOU CAN START CHARGING IT FROM WIND!! Can you imagine how dumb this condition is.. first - there is no way to know how long should i charge it from mains to get the necessary 20%. Then, when i am outdoor and lets say charging the phone - if i use all the juice - the charger will become useless, as there won't be a possibility for another startup charging. Then I have to charge till it is decreased to 20% and use the wind to charge it back. HA! there is now way to know that it is on 20%,10% or 30%... how dumb the design and functioning can be... This is truly a raw device they let out on market. Shame for Uniross.
(i will stop here because it is too late...)
I wish i would have read a review like this before i went and got this piece of ... something... Hope it helps someone else.

SO i went on ebay

3200mAH
THATS 2 TIMES the ones that came with the phone at 1530mAH
is this possible?? ??
Should i buy? My phone battery will last a lot longer?
DavidW, buy yours from Worcell. You should be in the area. I bought a standard cap battery from them but they have extended ones as well. Even the standard ones perform better. <_<
That's for real I've seen a lot of them. The problem is they make your phone fat.

it has a replacement back battery pack that will make ur atom bulky, coz the battery itself is bulky.
^ correct. Remember that it will no longer fit in standard cases you can buy from the shelves.
I already bought 1. I'm still waiting for it to arrive though. I'll give you guys some feedback as soon as it arrives. I'll post some pics too if possible.

Got my 3200mah battery!!!
It's thick!!! I couldn't use my original battery cover, they provided me anew bulkier one.
Not for thickness conscious people!!! Silicon case can help protect from scratches çoz it stretches. However, got to keep my metal case in the drawer çoz it couldn't fit. 2.1 times thicker than the original battery.
I love the battery life though. I kept it open from 11 PM to 9 am from 80% down to 57%. Backlight at minimum but lit all the way though 9 am.
Slow to charge.
I'll try and see how long it will last using wifi and will provide feedback.

Bro post some pic for us can?and wat brand did u buy? 11pm to 9am, 80% to 57% isnt too impressive actually. However Li batt need some usage before reaching its peak so expect the life to be longer after some usage
I saw some battery pack on web which hold 4xAAA battery that can charge our atom. Anyone have any ideas whether it will cause any potential problem to our batt or device? Im using a 1xAAA battery pack now for emergency use cos it wont charge much
Just before my Atom went to PDA heven ,
I bought a Mugen extended battery.
3000 mAh
came with 3 new covers (black/grey/white)
worked a treat , but did double the width of the phone
(can show you pic's if you like.)
Bought from a member of this site, who is one of the top 5 donators.
Australia based.

can highly recommend them .

Look like the one for ipod is it? how much did u pay for it?
Ok. I got the figures now. With 2 hours on and off usage of the Phone and about 3 hrs of solitaire (3% per 10 minutes of play), I ended up with 50% from 11 AM this morning to 9 PM. No wifi or gprs.
Wifi will eat 10% per 1/2 hr of use.
Charging time became considerably less. About the same as the original battery. Great already for me considering I used to charge at least 2 times a day with the original battery while it was still new. 4 times nowadays. (I charge whenever I see the battery is already down to 50 to 60%.
Sorry I couldn't send you a pic of the actual battery coz my wife is using our camera. Just imagine your atom turning into a turtle or a mini station wagon. The additional thickness is as thick as any plastic part of the side of the atom (it's plastic-rubber(volume button)-plastic).
The new battery doesn't come off easy. I mean it's easy to install but it's really hard getting it out. However, the cover that came with it can be used with both original and new batteries so you don't need to bring along 2 covers for long trips. I just wish they designed the cover better.
I bought this from "battery center" in ebay(not bidding though). It's about Php 1,169.00(USD 25.++) including shipping snd insurance. Cheaper than any atom battery you can buy here in the Philippines (cheapest so far is Php 1,400.00). Could be cheaper if I bought 3 or more.
Anyone know where I can buy a extra battery for the TP2? I have found a couple in the UK but would rather find a seller in the US.
Part# - BA S390
Is the part# listed above the correct battery for the TP2?
Mine actually says "RHOD160" on the back of it...
I found a 1500mah battery on ebay (item# 250445669999) with a "buy it now" for $8.95.
Anyone have any experience with this "replacement" battery. If so, how does it compare with the original battery which is 1500mah also?
****Update****
I also found this 1500mah battery on ebay (item # 270409538954) with a "buy it now" for $21.99

I stick with genuine batteries now as I had a bad experience with after market batteries. My TyTN2 has issues turning on, and randomly turns off - even after I put the genuine battery back in. It seems the after market battery did some permanent damage.
I recently received some 1500mah batteries for the TP2. I purchased 3 units. I have a friend that will test these batteries before I use it. I will use one for the office, home and the other one will be opened and my friend will inspect the board and cell of battery. He usually takes about a week to do these test so, I will give you a update next week, if possible.
I dont really have a problem with the battery life of the TP2. Its just in case I forget to charge it over the weekend, due to my drunken stupor. Its nice to have a backup battery at home or work.
maybe I'm the only one with short life battery problem on rhodium... but I have to complain... after 3 times I've charged ...the battery dies in the evening.
maybe I must be patience and maybe it will improve after some charging cicle...but for now I'm disappointed.
anybody've seen a better battery on market for TP2?
well... i been an iphone user for a long time..
well since the first gen came out...
i still own an iphone First Gen (2g)
and now i been with the TOuch Pro 2
for about 3 weeks..
i love the TP2...
i did a test.. a little one tho..
i live in NEw YOrk.. in the bronx
i had to go to the JFK airport
in train so it was arround 1 hour and 20 minutes
maybe the trip...
i charged both phones to 100percent...
i was listening to music the WHOLE TRIP with the Iphone
and the TP2 was Idle...
when i got there... my iphone still was 100...
the TP2 was about 91%....
another stuff that i know it drains a little my battery from the TP2
is beejive but i cant live without it, i been trying a lot of methods to
increase my battery, cant see it perform better..
TP2 fully charge in the morning and it dies before 7pm..
just Textin, and some phone calls ( about 3-5 calls )
no website .. if so maybe 1 website .. no emails no push anything...
no bluetooh no wifi...
i ordered an extra battery and a craddle i hope this helps me.
something i figured was that the charging is REALLY FASTTTT....
it can go out 20% in about 15-25minutes of charging
( wall plug ) ... dont try to charge from USB it will take u 200 hours LOL
when i first got it i always charged from usb and used to take me like 8 hours
even more to fully charge it.. but when i tried from the wall plug..is Amazing
how fast it charges..

Peace dude.
Not saying that your statement is false or deceiving, just that your iphone battery meter was lying to you.
Clearly the battery level can't be at 100% after 1 hr 20 min of use. The meter must only drop when the battery gets to a certain level. Kinda like when you fill your gas tank and the needle stays on full for the next 50Km.
You must have the 1% increment tweak installed. Notice how a couple of minutes after taking it off charge it drops to 99%. At least this is realistic aye enjoy your TP2.
I found the screen brightness was one of the biggest battery killers. Since I took it off auto adjust and set it to full brightness all the time, the life had significantly decreased.

I don't believe you.. I dare say that because I was a user of iPhone 3G.. battery is hopeless.. I SURELY didn't get that kind of situation.. My wife still has an iPhone 3G.. also can't replicate your kind of situation..
In anycase, I do not believe any mobile phone device, listening to music at >1hr can still be at 100%.. surely the battery reporting driver has gone haywire..
However I'm not saying TP2 doesn't have battery reporting issues. Infact most HTCs I use seem to report battery differently at times.. usually after a soft reset, it shows a different battery status.

It's just about how you use the phone.
I normally get a bit more than 2 days out of one charge, but then I'm calling and writing, surfing and checking EMails every 30 minutes, youtubing and listening to music.
Now I went over my data plan so I disabled the Mail-checking and did not listen to music for a while. The battery now lasts for 3 days with already 60% left.
I would say, one week battery lifetime isn't much of a problem if you don't use the phone's functions in any matter

Anyone bought one of these? Seems cheap - but if it works...
Comparin iPhone 2G with TP2 is not an apple for apple comparison. First compare with the ipHone 3G (Remember how poeple complained their 3G was lasting really less than their 2G and were switching from 3G to 2G to spare battery life ?)
Besides as many underlined the battery meter from iPhone is decieving (The TP2 has issues but less I believe)
In the end my TP2 last rougly 136 hours an I am quite a hevay user. Even if the iPhone last longer (I dont have an iPhone so cant compare both feelings, and my previous remarks come from my friends' experince who own one), the nice point with the TP2 is to be able to replace the battery with another one
wu dudes, well,my tp2 comes in 7 days.... i'll test it and than post here about life batery.... and freeway4you maybe u charge your batery when its not 0%. if you do that the batery is gonna be weak. sorry the english...

Yea i've had that same exact problem today, charged it, went to sleep and i woke up it was almost empty. I went back to the shop and replaced it, i'll see what happens now. Although after doing some research I think that it has to take some cycles to reach full capacity. Good luck bro ...
Despite all the tricks to help preserve battery, I still find the performance of y standard 930 mAh battery very bad. Is there an extended (reliabl) battery for rhis phone and where can I get it?
Just gonna drop my experience in. It seems the battery lasts for about a day and a half. Which can be seen as over three days (depends what time you charge it on the first day) instead of using the normal homescreen, download helix launcher from the market, it helps alot

One day and a half compared to my brothers Samsung's week is really a disgrace.
I already have another home screen, just got to like it, so not changing it at the moment.
I have contacted Seidio as they make extended batterys for other phones. Would not hurt if oter people did that too, so please, those who care about this problem, contact them and ask them.
I bought on e-bay a 1450mAh battery made by Jin Dian. A drastic improvement.
Didi anybody else try this? I got it but I'm not convinced it's better.
Seeing you all really hungry for power, it's just feel right to warn you guys. Never ever use cheap small portable charger that you spot either on a shop or ebay no matter how desperate you are. If you use it, best scenario, it only ruin your battery, or in the worse (like me) it ruin the phone. Both case has the same end result, the battery discharging way to quickly even when Idle.
How did it ruin your phone?
I would like to know. thanks
As I'm a long distance cyclist, I already own the Biologic ReeCharge. Anything that can be charged by usb can also be charged by that tool. I can use both my bicycle dynomo hub and the electricity network at home to charge the ReeCharge. Witch then is able to charge my phone. It's a kind of extra battery. Never have had any problems with that and I'm always glad on a cycle trip that I can keep my gadgets (most important gps) charged

Well, I don't know the technical details but it fried my batteries (that's right, more than one) before I realized it was the portable charger that caused and even after stop using it, it's still recurring (therefore, the phone is at fault) After asking my friend who used the same type charger once. They all said that it ruined their phones and told me if I want to have a portable charger, go for the lithium one that sony Ericsson's is selling.
hi,
i'm using varta charger type 57048:
http://www.amazon.de/Varta-Professi...=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=ce-de&qid=1291062768&sr=8-3
and i don't want to miss it on longer journeys. the usb-out function i would say is nearly as fast as the normal charger. one akku pack is enough for about 2 charges. if you are on a journey and not able to charge the akkus you can buy normal batteries. they give about 1 charge.
i have experiences with other chargers and phones and i would say this thing works really good because the usb-port of the charger turns off when batteries haven't enough voltage. this prevents your x10 battery from damage because wrong charging.

My x10a mini pro came with 970 mAh battery, not 930. Battery life is about a day and 1/2. I use USB car charger in the car on needed basis only. Hopefully USB car charger doesn't fry the battery.
Hey all,
Since there's no Q&A thread as of yet, I'll be posting my question here.
I'm sorry if this has been asked before, I have searched for it but couldn't find the answer.
My Xperia S just came in today, I started recharging the device when it hit around the 10%.
However, it's recharging so, so slow! Is it supposed to be this slow?
I thought the Xperia S was supposed to have fast charge capabilities?
If so, how do I charge it faster?
It's a Dutch unit btw.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I have a generic UK unit the first charge does take slightly longer. It took around 2.5 hrs after that I got from 1% to 100% in just under 2 hrs. You are not charging via your PC are you?

Nope, using the supplied charger and cable..
EDIT: Also, there seems to be some lag on the home screen and especially in the app drawer.. Anyone notice this?
There are 2 versions of chargers shipping with the XS, EP800 ( less power output ) and EP850 ( More power output )
check your charger to see if it is an EP800, i am pretty sure it will be. The 850 does its job much faster.
Another way Sony is "cheating" on us.... after i got my XS replaced twice in 1 week and already waiting on another replacement it just do not surprise me anymore that things like this happen with this device.
First Flagship from sony alone and it is already a catastrophe

Ah, you were absolutely right. Second charge was way faster.
I believe I just recharged 60% within 30 minutes.

Yep, it's an EP850. The first recharge takes ages, but the second recharge is pretty darn fast.
I don't have any problems as of yet with the XS, except for its laggy home screen.
Wonder if I'm the only one whose home screen is lagging..
What's up with yours?

I don't get screen lag I did take mcafee off my phone. Also any apps downloaded apps you are not using turn the service off.
is ep800 safer 4 battery? quicker charging = shorter battery life?
more mA -> more resistance -> more heat -> less battery cycles life?

Someone else may know this better, but, as far as I know, Xperia S have tech so it recharge faster without problems.

It's no safer than the 850.
The phone was made to withstand the 850 charger (one of the selling points actually was its charging). My phone (Tmobile NL) was shipped with the speed charger, but I'm noticing that after a few weeks the phone seems to be charging fast in general, on any charger...or maybe I am just imagining things?
I have an old BB charger that I use sometimes (I have chargers all around the house from old phones, i swear :/) and it seems to also charge it fast.
Edit: Also, on both chargers, my battery life is just as fantastic at night I charge my phone while I sleep though ( I don't get why you wouldn't charge your phone while you sleep?) so maybe my battery is more worn-in than a lot of people.
My phone is plugged into my " old " desire charger at home, which seams to charge faster than the default one , saying that , I also use my PC to charge ,so maybe the little top ups help + the charger at home .
It does last a while now, however we are running a powerful ( mini ) PC , so we cant expect too much !!
