Battery technology - HTC EVO 3D

Am I the only one impressed by the new standard Motorola has done with the Razor Maxx? I don't necessarily like the unremovable back but for a 3000+ mah battery I think its a small sacrifice lol. I used to have a 3000mah extended battery on my og evo and it made the phone huge! I really hope other companies can expand on battery technology and improved SOC. I would love to see 2012 be the year of 24 hour battery life be something normal.

That kinda sucks if you could swap out the battery be nice. Would blow to have a shot battery and couldn't pull it.

Lol or getting stuck in a bootloop and having to wait for the phone to die!

Un removeable battery is no no imo. Too many issues could arise. They better watch out or Apple will sue them
From the giant: Galaxy Note

Yeahhh, that would be pretty lame not being able to do battery pulls, especially if you are into experimenting with develpment stuff... Being stuck in a bootloop sounds horrible.

I agree, I think more manufacturers should be going this route as my biggest complaint is battery life. But like others said, unremovable battery is a deal breaker. There's been too many times that I had to pull the battery when either my phone completely froze, wouldn't boot past the splash screen, or got stuck in a boot loop.

So I guess none of you know you can hold power + vol up + vol down for 4 or 5 seconds and the phone does an instant force restart no matter what? It is built into the hardware, much like holding the power button on a PC that is frozen for 4 seconds does a force shutoff. You dont need to pull a battery for any reason

This is what I do every time. It works if you can get it once it gets easier. Unfortunately I don't think removable 3000+ mah batteries are in the near future. I'm not sure about anybody else but can you imagine a quad core 20+ hour battery life phone? Now that's the technology I'm looking for. Once more people focus more on battery technology a truly 'perfect' phone will be in reach

Well if you're going to develop, you'd have ADB with you and should be able to easily reboot the phone into recovery or whatever through there. 3000mah batteries built into the case but still remove the case is a good idea. We've, however, gotten out as much as we could from li-ion so it's really time for a new type of battery.

I wasn't able to get into the bootloader using the all hardware key reboot, it does reboot the phone though lol. Im on a CDMA HW 002 Evo 3d

Time to boot up

I found 1 thread with 2 posts about the boot time and how it's expected to improve because the Sensations is better, but I don't see a thread about how long people's boots are taking. I just want to make sure mine is in line with everyone else's.
I timed mine last night and it took 3 minutes & 15 seconds to boot and another 30 seconds to "settle down" (mount sd, startup apps, etc).
just tested mine.. booted in just under 1 min..

That sounds a bit long. Mine takes less than a minute (fastboot is disabled)

I didn't time mine but it takes a while like yours, but I just figured that was because I have a 32gb card full with the internal memory at only 150 mb free. Yes I know I have a lot on this phone. I think the eVo 4g I had with any of Aamikam's awsome roms started up faster, and it will drop with the upcoming custom roms/kernels. So is ur phone full too?
Swyped from my eVo 3d
Mine takes atleast more than a minute to boot .is there a way to.make it faster

Mine takes about 30 seconds. I guess different phones act differently.
I Haz 3D!
There is a difference when you have fastboot on and you restart the phone, power off the phone, or battery pull the phone and then boot. A battery pull and a restart is the same. When you power off the phone its like hibernation mode on your pc. So when you boot up from powering off it will be much quicker than a restart or a battery pull.

This is true. I disabled fast boot for bootloader reasons. I still get 30 sec powerups.

I have tried with fastboot on and off and get about the same results. I pull my battery a few times a day. Battery life sucks so i bought several cheap replacements which I charge separately.
I do have almost 200 apps on the phone but that's why I wanted a fast phone. I have a 32GB card but it's class 10 so I would think that wouldn't slow things down.
Today is day 29 for me so i have to decide by tomorrow and I'm still on the fence. Sprint seems slow coming from Verizon and I thought this was the fastest phone in the US right now but now I'm not sure. Plus I've had freezes with the camera and black screens when zooming in the gallery. I want to love this phone. I don't want to wish I had something better in 3 months.

This phone is one of the fastest. You may have a defective device if its that sluggish. A class 10 card should not slow you down in speed at all. You may have alot of programs loaded in your memory since you have 200. Put the phones task killer to use.

Wow... You all have fast boot times compared to me. I have the android assistant app, along with around 150 apps, and used autostarts app to prevent unnecessary apps during various system events (nice app). Anyway android assistant puts a notification with startup time after each boot. Mine used to take 5min, now up to 7min. Fastboot off, time with battery pull. 32GB adata class 6, most apps except largest are on internal.
Especially painful if random reboot occurs during important call...

Any ideas?
I was in TWRP at the main menu, instead of clicking power off, I pulled the battery to replace the sd card with another. Now it will not power up, when I plug it in..no red light?
Thanks in advance...Jim

This happened to me about a week ago. Charging it was what fixed it.
If charge it doesn't fix go to a sprint store and let them charged the battery the did the trick for.my EVO 4G once the happened, for.some reason the battery seems dead when is nor really dead
MGS on my iPad
Maybe check the battery connectors dood. I know some htc models have problems with those.
Coz i just saw it in 3D with the Shooter!
mines not powering up either.. Never turned it off, woke up this morning & it was off. Not powering up. been on charger all night
happens all the time to me. i know its a flaw, but ive learned to NEVER let my battery go all the way dead. If i see it get around 5-10% ill just put in on airplane mode til i can get to a charger. Also if you battery is very low, turning it off or pulling the battery will cause it to get an attidude and not turn back on for 15-20 min
Yeah, I have been having lots of "attitude" from my battery or power button or on/off code or whatever is making these things not want to power on reliably.... Not to mention the random charge-light-on-wont-turn-on antics. Has been happening more and more frequently and nothing i do works reliably so I just try them all until one works.
I can't have this. This morning I woke up to a locked phone, screen off, green light on, won't turn on.... And totally dead battery while plugged in? Good thing my nook is so reliable as an alarm clock or I might have been in deep **** at work.
It's not the rom or kernel... I've tested everything. I think it's deeper than that. I might not be able to wait for the nexus-prime.... Sgs2 might have to do.

I've seen a lot of these posts. I usually never let mine get in the amber even but I recently flashed viper rom so i wanted to do a battery calibration...meaning..reset stats from full charge..then use it till it dies. After reading these posts I realized mine hadnt died on me any yet. After 16 hours of heavy abuse (12 hours of normal music streaming, calls, text, web surfing etc...and 4 hours of just playing youtube video's with all radio's on trying to kill the damn thing) it finally croaked. Worked just fine though.
Maybe something to do with certain shipments. I've seen a lot of posts on htis but no one ever puts out a batch number or anything. Perhaps all the ones having issues came from a similar batch...and have some designation of affiliation with said batch. Just a though..if we could discover some trend in this...perhaps they'd consider acknowledging it and helping users with issues...or at least help new comers to the thread avoid particular troublesome ones.

i think it has something to do with the non HTC s-off method. But im right with you. As soon as Sprint releases the s2 this 3D is going straight to ebay. I love it, but the signal weakness and power problems are MAJOR things that I cant take much longer

It did this before I did s-off.... Admittedly not as much, but it also hadn't done it any more afterwards.... Until a week or so ago, and it just seems to be getting worse. I have an unmodified eng hboot and radio, I doubt that there are remnants of revolutionary that would get progressively worse over time....but I have no idea honestly.

AWFUL signal strength. actually, worse Ive ever had on a phone.
my EVO never came back. I was at 60% batt life when I put on charge last night & was dead ass hell this morning.. no life at at.. Sprint tech took it apart it said the phone apears like new, just lifeless. swapped battery with 3 others, no good. So I figured it would be a long shot but I took it back to the store I got it from 36 days ago.. & Explained what happen.. Swapped me out with another one right then & there!..
BTW this is my 5th NEW Evo3D. thats sad...

Well I'm coming from a thunderbolt with lots of things I've been working on and testing and probably battery pull at least 3 times a day but I think holding down the power button and home will work like an iPhone and force shut down. I hope it does because if I can't force shut down my phone that could be a major problem but I can always wait for the battery to run out.

No! Never let the battery run out on a device that is stuck in some kind of screen of death or bootloop. Then you can actually brick the device.

[Q] Nexus 10 does not power on

Our Nexus 10 is less than two weeks old.
With a full charge it will not power up.
When I attach the power cord, it shows a full charge but then the icon immediately disappears.
Ideas?

30 sec. on the suggestion of Google Play tech support.
They also asked us to hold the volume and power buttons on for the same time and nada!
Hmmmm.. Interesting.. 30 seconds is definitely long enough to trigger a reset which as close you get to a battery pull without actually pulling the battery. Being a former Nexus 7 owner I will say there were a few instances of people having powering up issues with their Nexus 7's and unplugging the battery and plugging it back it cured it.
Difference: Nexus 7 has a super easy removable cover to access the battery. N10 does not..
RMA that badboy... Not worth ripping open a $500 device to try some half assed fix anyway.

Yes, this is what we are doing.
Replacement device has been ordered...3-5 day delivery.
Google assured me that they have "new" replacement units for this purpose.
I was concerned because the Google Play store shows they are sold out of the Nexus 10.
No problems with my Nexus 7, but different manufacturer!
Now we just have to wait and see.
Were you even getting a Google logo or the little power up vibration at all or just absolutely no signs of life except the quick battery meter?

No Google logo or power vibration, just the quick battery meter that shows a full charge.
It only stayed on a second or two when the charger is connected.
Looking at your history.. Is this your 2nd, or 3rd replacement you're on? What are you doing to your devices?

Can you do a reboot of the phone without pulling battery, and screen becomes unresponsive. On my HTC I can hold power and volume - for a few seconds and it will reboot but then again it has a unremovable battery. Just wondering can I do same with this phone, thanks in advance.

Thank you the reason i ask is because i have two photons i plan to give one too each of my 8 and 9 year old daughters for games and netflix etc.... I bought them shells but the tabs that keep them shut broke off. I wanted to super glue the shell together but if i do that i won't be able to get to battery for a manual reboot... So im thinking i need to get them new shells the rubber jelly kind that just goes over phone.
Have you let them sit for a few minutes when frozen? A lot of times it will reboot itself but I rarely have the patience to wait? Otherwise you'd have to let the batteries fully drain and hope they charge and come back on.
As far as I know, you have to pull the battery.
