[Q] I am new-Need Help- Rooting gingerbread.XWKI4 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a Galasxy S 2 and wat to root it. It is running on Android 2.3.4 gingerbread.XWKI4. What is the easiest and simplest way to root my phone so I can get rid of all the add's?
I am a noob in this field so I hope one of you can help me out with a clear instruction. Thanx for your time and effort!
Cheerz,
Daemyon

Welcome, but don't forget that "search" is your friend...
Start here, then read and search some more. Don't rush.
Remove "add's" - do you mead advertisements on apps, or additions/bloatware (apps you don't need/want)?

Find the KI4 kernel in this thread & use it to root your phone. Read the first post in that thread carefully, follow the instructions to the letter & you shouldn't have any problems, assuming you have either an I9100 or a I9100T (check the sticker under the battery to make sure before you do anything).
P.S - For future reference, questions belong in the Q&A section of the board

Yes I mean advertisements in apps, those are the most annoying. I will check the thread you have sent me, thanx!

I will check the thread and see if it gets me anywhere. I read somewhere there is also a possibility to do it on one click. you download something on your phone, run the programm through a restart in download mode and then it is rooted. Is that possible as well? I have a I9100. I will put my threads in the proper forum next time. Thanx!

If you mean SuperOneClick, yes, that is an alternative way to root your phone other than Odin/CFRoot. I've never used it so I have no idea how it works, do a search on here & find the thread devoted to it.

Yes, it's possible, and you've got several choices. Good luck finding them.
I've searched already but did'nt found exactly what to do and i dont want to risk taking the wrong path.

Seriously, you didn't even need to search. Q&A section. Fifth sticky. (SERIOUSLY. Like 3 inches below the "NEW THREAD" button you used to start this thread)
Roots any i9100 that has 2.3.5 or earlier.
Thnx for the helpful reply's
I think you meant this topic?
[FAQ] [ROOT] Questions about rooting SGS2 via zergRush Exploit
Well i've read it already and been reading a lot about it but i did not asked it if i knew what to use!
Maybe to you it's easy but i can't seem to find the answer that gives me the certain things to do/use.
Hopefully someone will give me the helpful/right answer (as i did in some posts) because when you take the time to reply it might as well be usefull.

Read post #4 of that thread. It has a WORKING link to the "[04/Jan][ROOTING/UNROOTING] DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit [v4.0](zergRush Exploit)
" thread. (I say working because post #1 has NONworking link to the same page. Thread author didn't link it properly)
If you can't understand this and think it's not helpful, I would suggest you not root your phone. No offense.
Thnx i've got it.
I'm not a noob but there is so much info and it's sometimes difficult to read the correct things because of the language.
You say tmobile sgs2. Tread carefully on what is compatible.

I think he's fine. He's in the Netherlands, according to his profile, so T-Mobile Europe, not T-Mobile USA... so he SHOULD have an I9100(and does, going by the screen shot of his "About Phone" screen in post #1), not an SGH-T989.
Im fine indeed
Now trying to find out what the Possibility's are now it's rooted.
FE: now it's possible to flash a custom rom?
What are the essential things i have to do now that it's rooted?

You could have flashed a custom ROM withOUT rooting. Indeed, there are several custom ROMs that come already rooted.
EDIT: Sorry, ignore the above sentence. I'm mistaken. You need root. My bad.
Sorry, but in my opinion, you went backwards on this. You rooted for the sake of rooting, then wondered "what can I do now that I have root?", instead of rooting because you needed to do something that required root. But I digress, and I'll get off my soapbox now.
That said, several apps that require root that I like are DroidWall (control what apps can access the internet via 3g and/or wifi), SixAxis Controller (use a ps3 controller on your phone - great for emulators), AdAway (ad blocker), Chainfire 3D (for Tegra only compatible games), Root Explorer (essential for tweaking files in system folders), Startup manager (control what apps are allowed to start when the phone boots), Titanium Backup (backup/restore applications and their data, freeze apps), and SetCPU (undervolt/overclock/change governors/etc).
First of all i rooted for the apps that need rooting like titanium and some other apps.
Second, indeed for flashing because i always thought it was essential. (saw your edit)
Third, i read some things about security issues (dataleaks fe.)and thought i had to root to solve them.
Maybe i'm totally wrong but as i said before there is so much info that its hard to pick the right things out of the topics.
Thanx for your help. Learning more everyday

No prob. And you said in an earlier post "it's sometimes difficult to read the correct things because of the language". Your language? Your English is probably 10x better than half the people who post on this board.
Here i am again
Little question: Can i flash a custom rom with zergRush Exploit? Or do i need Odin for flashing roms?

Flashing roms two methods ODIN or CWM and now MOBILE ODIN .
If you want to flash a custom rom you read that roms install instructions no more and no less .
Most but not all custom roms are flashed via CWM
CWM requires root and CWM install .
Root + CWM .

OK getting further and further every minute
Now know that with the actual root i can't flash.
Do i need to unroot this root before Root CWM?
So i read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 and took Odin.
Now wondering wich CF Root to take.
My kernelversion says: [email protected]#2
Wich kernel i need to take:
this one: CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEF_KJ2-v4.4-CWM4.zip
or this one: CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEF_KJ2-v5.0-CWM5.zip
Or am i reading it wrong?
KJ2 might as well take v5 CWM
jje
And what about the unroot part? Do i need to unroot first and then CF-root?

Here you'll find all you need.
The process isn't kernel specific. If you look in the SGS2- Original Android development forum, you'll find stock and insecure kernels. You'll need one of those. Look for a post by Chainfire, or CF-root.
Edited: Better?

"stock insecure" after your link is ... yeah whatever.
Anyhow, it looks to be the first kernel listed in this post forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19013036&postcount=7. He'll want to read about voiding the warranty and the yellow triangle and so forth. I'm too lazy to find the links at the moment.
The forum search function should be more informative for those issues, DEREKTROTTER. There's a main sticky thread at the top of the sections that are also helpful.
Please search and read the stickys since hold valuable information.

What should I do ? what is Room?

Hello!
I'm new in Android system, my phone is SGS2 G, today after long triyng finally i could root my Phone,
here is my questions:
1- what did mean of Rom? is this just like a theme or just a new style for my phone and some more tools with it?
2-I wanr to add some Rom or a Rom for my Phone and I'm really a new user and have no idea, i read some posts but there was not clean and specialy for some one like me, i want really some simply steps to add a Rom for my Phone.
3- what is the most important tools or app to user that simply rootet his Phone so far?
With My Best Regards,
Matin, Germany
My recommendation is that you should ask in the correct thread. Look the pined threads at the top of the page.
You will find the Q&A thread.
Btw: you can make a fast search on google.
I'm sure that you will find the answers there or try doing what I said before.
Good luck dude!

1. and 2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1246131
Before you install anything, you will require to install CWM and root. Install CF-kernel from the link below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
There is a installation guide in it. Read through carefully before you do something you dont understand.
By definition a room has to have walls, floor and a point of entrance otherwise it is not a room.
hope this helps with your issue with What should I do ? what is Room? lmfao
Rom = full firmware kernel OS modem and applications .
There are no simple steps simple instructions yes .
Odin and CWM are the rom flashing tools of choice .

[Q] Some help with performance optimization (for a newbie)

Hi All,
I got this samsunga galaxy s3 from my brother. He used to do so many things on it. He used to change the ROM often?! Sometime he would install the Xperia Z's ROM on it?! I am a complete newbie and I didn't ask him about this before. Now he has left for another country, giving the phone to me with default factory settings. But I know that he did everything from what you guys shared here.
So, sorry for the newbie questions (and for not Googling it)
1. How do I change the firmware/stock ROM for better performance?
2. What should I do to make the audio player awesome?
3. Is there a chance that I could increase the battery performance?
Thanks for any and all your help
Go to the general thread and read the stickies for noobs and guides on how to flash.
They will tell you everything you want to know, although I'd caution against leaping in until you are very certain you know what to do.
These phones are quite easy to destroy by flashing the wrong file etc. To acheive most of what you want you'll only need to root and install titanium - so you can freeze the Samsung bloatware, this isn't too risky if you follow the CF auto root process.
For all the rest your best to search and read xda, make sure you fully understand before you press the 'flash' button.

he said you should read not post .
anything is described in the stickies and FAQ thread here.
in summary, custom roms or stock modified roms will give you "maybe" better battery live.
In addition custom kernels improve battery live and sound.
first thing to do though is read the FAQ thread so that you know what you are doing .

How to root S3?

Can someone please help me step by step how to root S3 i9300 and install recovery and custom rom? Or can anyone link a good video tutorial?
Is it safe to use ROM manager to install a recovery? I know some years ago that program was not safe.

But okey, nvm guys I figure it out myself.
even being old the process remains the same... just folow the instructions in this link and you will be rooted
