Here you'll find all you need.
The process isn't kernel specific. If you look in the SGS2- Original Android development forum, you'll find stock and insecure kernels. You'll need one of those. Look for a post by Chainfire, or CF-root.
Edited: Better?

"stock insecure" after your link is ... yeah whatever.
Anyhow, it looks to be the first kernel listed in this post forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19013036&postcount=7. He'll want to read about voiding the warranty and the yellow triangle and so forth. I'm too lazy to find the links at the moment.
The forum search function should be more informative for those issues, DEREKTROTTER. There's a main sticky thread at the top of the sections that are also helpful.

Please search and read the stickys since hold valuable information.

[Q] Android 2.2 or newer

Hi to all,
I installed custom rom on my Vibrant sgh-t959 but now i want the stock rom that was on the phone. Can someone give me link to the stock rom?
Thanks
.... really? go back out of this thread and scroll to the top of the forum. First Post the one Stickied at the top.(it's in BOLD) As rude as this sounds you really need to read stickies as they are stickied for a reason.
Depends if you got the phone with 2.1 or 2.2....
- If it was 2.1 then ODIN using any guide
- If it was 2.2 then there is an "Official" stock build out there in "Development" by whitehawx, its not in the "Bible" so ur gonna have to search for it.
Good luck!

Flashed Wrong Kernel Maybe? Help Please!

Hi everyone I am Sean, and I just got my ATT SGS2 Yesterday. I think I followed a rooting guide for the non ATT one. The rooting was successful but my WIFI is down with no MAC Address, also I cannot seem to get any custom rom working.
Is there a way to get the Stock ATT Kernel so I can flash and start over. Is there a rooting guide specificly for the ATT version?
Thanks ahead of time!

If u flashed the wrong kernel, go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1294574. Not trying to be mean, but it took me less then a minute of skimming over the Android development section to find this.
Here is the normal rooting guide, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301682.

Please read *before* you post a question. There is a lot of information available on the XDA I777 forums. Please read all the stickies in the general section, as well as the library sticky in the development section. You've been on xda-developers for several years and made many posts, so you *should* know the forum rules. People here will be glad to help you if you do your part first, but if you are looking to have your hand held, you will probably get little help.

Excuse me, I did read. Why would I look in the development section for a troublshooting issue? Please do not post unhelpful comments like that. You obviously can't comprehend the issue fully.

It's just that your questions are already answered in sticky posts in both the general forum and the development forum. I thought it would be better if you wnet and read the answers there rather than taking the time to write the answers all over again.
You clearly didn't read if you went and flashed something not meant for your device without VERY explicit instructions on what is OK to flash and how to flash it.

Actually as I have already explained I did read plenty, I found nothing in the Q&A Section, which is where a solution to a "Question" should be.
And the Guide I followed which was from XDA never once stated that it was only for the International version. Nor did it say it would not work for the AT&T version.
I have been with this community a long time and have never had someone as rude or unhelpful as you. Please do not reply to posts if you are not helping in anyway.
Even though you may have read threads in the Q&A section, a simple search would have pulled up the IMPORTANT threads taht are located in the Dev section that would have answered your questions... and why are they in the Dev section you ask? Because, when flashing anything to your phone like a rom or kernel, its considered DEVELOPMENT and you would have know that if you would have read.
Now go read some more and search. Thread closed.

[Q] I am new-Need Help- Rooting gingerbread.XWKI4

Hi,
I have a Galasxy S 2 and wat to root it. It is running on Android 2.3.4 gingerbread.XWKI4. What is the easiest and simplest way to root my phone so I can get rid of all the add's?
I am a noob in this field so I hope one of you can help me out with a clear instruction. Thanx for your time and effort!
Cheerz,
Daemyon
Welcome, but don't forget that "search" is your friend...
Start here, then read and search some more. Don't rush.
Remove "add's" - do you mead advertisements on apps, or additions/bloatware (apps you don't need/want)?
Find the KI4 kernel in this thread & use it to root your phone. Read the first post in that thread carefully, follow the instructions to the letter & you shouldn't have any problems, assuming you have either an I9100 or a I9100T (check the sticker under the battery to make sure before you do anything).
P.S - For future reference, questions belong in the Q&A section of the board

Yes I mean advertisements in apps, those are the most annoying. I will check the thread you have sent me, thanx!

I will check the thread and see if it gets me anywhere. I read somewhere there is also a possibility to do it on one click. you download something on your phone, run the programm through a restart in download mode and then it is rooted. Is that possible as well? I have a I9100. I will put my threads in the proper forum next time. Thanx!
If you mean SuperOneClick, yes, that is an alternative way to root your phone other than Odin/CFRoot. I've never used it so I have no idea how it works, do a search on here & find the thread devoted to it.

How to Root XWLPI

Hi, I'm sure I'm beeing a n00b but I had my phone rooted and I just updated to the latest firmware via KIES and now I have the Kernal Version XWLPI and I can't find any instructions that I understand on how to get rooted agian. When I had a different kernal version there were heaps of tutorials and now I'm not sure what to do.
Any help would be much appreciated. I have the NZ version of the phone.
Cheers
A Google search for your exact thread title ("How to root XWLPI") would have returned results that would work for you.
But here, I'm feeling generous. Go to the CF-root thread. There is an LPI kernel there, and instructions are in post 1.
If you don't want to replace the kernel, this works as well (and can be reversed quite easily!):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794
It is very simple, just involves copying 2 files to the (external!) SD-Card and following the instructions for CWM.

Thanks very much for your help but for the life of me I can't find the CF-root thread and I looked at the link you posted 'TheCreat' but there are no links for the files I need to download.
Could either of you help out a complete n00b and post some links for me....please

CF-root, instructions are there, just use your browsers search function (ctrl +f) to find the specific kernel.

Still can't get how to use Google, eh? You could have typed in "CF-root XWLPI XDA" and found it on the first page of results...
But that's ok. Seems someone found their spoon.

But okey, nvm guys I figure it out myself.
even being old the process remains the same... just folow the instructions in this link and you will be rooted
