Hi, I'm sure I'm beeing a n00b but I had my phone rooted and I just updated to the latest firmware via KIES and now I have the Kernal Version XWLPI and I can't find any instructions that I understand on how to get rooted agian. When I had a different kernal version there were heaps of tutorials and now I'm not sure what to do.
Any help would be much appreciated. I have the NZ version of the phone.
Cheers
A Google search for your exact thread title ("How to root XWLPI") would have returned results that would work for you.
But here, I'm feeling generous. Go to the CF-root thread. There is an LPI kernel there, and instructions are in post 1.
If you don't want to replace the kernel, this works as well (and can be reversed quite easily!):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794
It is very simple, just involves copying 2 files to the (external!) SD-Card and following the instructions for CWM.

Thanks very much for your help but for the life of me I can't find the CF-root thread and I looked at the link you posted 'TheCreat' but there are no links for the files I need to download.
Could either of you help out a complete n00b and post some links for me....please

CF-root, instructions are there, just use your browsers search function (ctrl +f) to find the specific kernel.

Still can't get how to use Google, eh? You could have typed in "CF-root XWLPI XDA" and found it on the first page of results...
But that's ok. Seems someone found their spoon.

The files are all attached to the first post. That means the download links are listed at the end of post 1 in that thread.

For rooting beginners ... please read Chainfire's CF-Root kernel thread here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399&highlight=CF+Root
There are several other rooting method, but this is very easy and works just fine, if you can find a corresponding CF-Root kernel for your current ROM's kernel version.
If not, you can do it a little more manually with Intratech's "Quick Root Guide" in the first post here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278.
Good luck !

Here you'll find all you need.
The process isn't kernel specific. If you look in the SGS2- Original Android development forum, you'll find stock and insecure kernels. You'll need one of those. Look for a post by Chainfire, or CF-root.
Edited: Better?

"stock insecure" after your link is ... yeah whatever.
Anyhow, it looks to be the first kernel listed in this post forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19013036&postcount=7. He'll want to read about voiding the warranty and the yellow triangle and so forth. I'm too lazy to find the links at the moment.
The forum search function should be more informative for those issues, DEREKTROTTER. There's a main sticky thread at the top of the sections that are also helpful.
Please search and read the stickys since hold valuable information.

So I have UKK6. The links here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285894 are broken. Entropy's updated links aren't one-click, here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18065445&postcount=1.
What to do!? I cannot find a guide for Odin. The stickies are a confusing mess... Help!
Are you trying to get root access or are you trying to install a custom ROM?
If you are indeed rooting, try using the Hotfile link from the '2c' section of this thread by creepyncrawly. The 2c link leads to an Odin3 OneClick file, and is currently working. This is what I used and it has worked like a charm.
For installing the kernel after the rooting process, you'll wanna use Mobile Odin. They're different programs.
Be sure to bookmark that creepyncrawly thread -- it is a great guide and was singlehandedly responsible for giving me the security of mind I needed to take the plunge as a new user.

I advise you to reread the stickys until your confusion is reduced. Unless someone is going to come to your house to fix your phone, you might want to know what you're doing...

Here's a good tutorial that I found. It worked perfectly for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2KhSKpt4hs
How is an i777 with a i9100 bootscreen and warning triangle working "perfectly?"
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2
Android ver:4.0.3
Baseband:I9100BULP6
Kernel:3.0.15-I9100BULPC-CL332484 [email protected] #3
Build nr:IML74K.BULPC
I do not know how to root my phone.
I do not know what version of CF-root to download.
I need some steps and the link to the right file to download. I already downloaded Odin.
And i need to know a custom rom to put on it. Simple but stable. I do not need anything special. (maybe more battery and something that i must have on it)
Thank alot.
All the info that you need are posted here.
I understand that i must read to get some help. But you sent me somewhere that is not what i am looking for mate.

I did manage to root the phone. And now i am using SlimICS. Thanks for help.
Care to share how you managed to root your device?
I did a search here. And i found the right CF-ROOT for my device. I used ODIN to ROOT the device. Then i used the CWM to install SlimICS rom. I dont know how to explain more. But if you search in the forum you will find almost any answer. I hope it helped.

First thing search for cf-root for your device. On the cf-root page you will understand how to identify the correct file for you. Download the file. Use odin following details about how to use it. Get your phone in download state. Volume down+power button+home button. Odin will detect your phone. After cf-root its time to install a custom rom. I use slimics look at the forum for it and the way to install it on your phone. I hope this helped you.

Hey XDA Forums. Bit of a newbie here at the moment, but considering I have just bought my SGS2 from Kogan I have no idea what region my phone is from.
I'm looking for the appropriate CF-Root for my SGS2 on ICS. Full phone details are in the screenshot link below.
https://twitter.com/HolmesInFive/status/223653044657729536/photo/1
If anyone could link me to the appropriate CF-Root file I would be more than happy!

Ctrl + f and search for LPS. Follow instructions on the first post, specifically the Instructions - ODIN (long).

XXLPS is the baseband, but you have to look for the build number. From your screenshot this is XWLP7. Just search the the CF-Root thread for a version matching your build. Make sure your read the section Help! Which file do I use ? before downloading.

Ahh! Not i'm confused. One of you has said look for LP7, which I found. The other is saying LPS, which is also there. I am going to go with the LP7 kernel I found, but I'd like to be 100% sure that's the right one.
