HDMI does require a lot of power. Also, check the charger you are using. It is recommended to get a 2.1 ma charger to keep up the power.

T-mobile mhl

First off is your phone supposed to discharge when using the the mhl adaptor ?
Is it only discharging because I'm not using HTC's mhl?
The video quality is pretty good and it seems to drain slower maybe but I get about 3 hours or so streaming live video off of own3d.tv from full. I think I'm draining 233ma last time I checked while streaming .
Oh also why do 3rd party chargers say from amazon charge poorly compared to the original? I need 3 and can't can't justify paying $75 to get 3 originals.
Thank you

As long as they put out 1A or 1000ma you should be fine. I have like 3 HTC chargers from prior phones and they work great. But I also have a backup charger rated at 750ma and it obviously charges at a slower rate.
With all that being said, I have heard various results using the MHL adapter. Some people report a minimal discharge, others report a fair battery discharge. Chad Goodman was working on a kernel that was supposed to support positive charging, while displaying MHL.
RLS9 of my old kernel provided charging while using MHL
it had issues though
not sure why - but
people either had
a) usb working 100%, charging normal, and mhl/hdmi caused reboots/lock ups
or
b) no usb, charging normal, and mhl/hdmi worked 100%, and charging while on MHL was ok
i am working on this as we speak for RLS2 of my new kernels - hoping it works for everyone, not just some
Won't charging over MHL work with a TV that has native MHL connections? Or will that work only with your kernel?

If it's a TV with native mhl, you should be fine, no adapter needed. You would just use the required cable only and receive a charge, plus display video.

Charger - Volts and Amps

So my charger met with an untimely demise. I am unable to get my hands on a replacement one at the moment.
I am currently using my computer's USB port which as you will know doesn't give quite enough juice. I have seen a microusb charger with 5V and 2A. Will this do a job (and also not get rid of the message that i am drawing more juice than the battery is getting)?
I use the charger that came with my Evo 4g. It needs to sit overnight, but it charges to green.

No.
The reason for the strange shape USB lead HTC have is that it gives 9V and 1.7A - 5V isn't going to cut it, it will charge but ever so slowly and if you try to charge whilst using it you'll probably find it doesn't, it just discharges more slowly.
If I were to take an old wall wart I have here that is 9V and 2A and wire a standard micro USB cable to it, would that work to charge my flyer quickly? In other words is the strange connector necessary or just the 9V and 2A?

NO, because the fast charge requires the special connector on the HTC power cord , a micro-usb will not allow the Flyer to draw the high current.

so an adaptor with a usb slot and using the usb cable would work?

If you're using the HTC-specific microUSB cable, the adaptor would have to provide the correct amount of power (9V and 1.7A). Most usb power adaptors do not provide the adequate amount. A little while back, I made the mistake of taking just my phone usb adaptor to charge everything on a trip out of the country for nearly two months. It worked great for everything except for my View. Even though I had the HTC-specific usb cable for the View, it was still like charging via a computer usb port. It would get the job done if I left it all day or all night, but it took forever to charge.
I really would try to track down an OEM charger. Even if you find a usb adaptor that puts out the right amount of power, it still might not provide the short amount of charging time that the OEM charger does. It should theoretically, but many users have had charging time woes when using anything but the OEM charger.

No it doesn't. A member of my site took the OEM charger, wired a 90 degree micro USB port to it, charges at full speed.

Volts and Amps - PowerFlask
From the posts on this subject it seems that the Powerflask 13000 mAh powerbank I bought today and which charges at 5.3 volt with a 1amp and 2.5 amp port won't properly charge my flyer?
Can I safely use the 2.5amp port or should I rather stick to the 1amp port.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Folks on here have mentioned that the device (and other tablet/smartphone devices) will only draw the amount of current (amps) it needs. So using a charger with a higher amp rating is not a concern (in theory).
But I think others have debated this, and even made claims of higher volt/amp rated chargers damaging their devices (however anecdotal).
In any case, from the responses on this thread, it appears that any charger that doesn't have HTC's proprietary connector that they used for the Flyer, will charge the tablet very slowly. I just plugged my Flyer into a microUSB charger the other day (just got back from a trip, and my stock charger was still packed), and it charged extremely slowly. It was slower than I remembered it being. It was plugged in for maybe 4 hours, and only increased the charge by 10 or 15%.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.
I ran a quick test and connected the Flyer to the battery pack.
The flyer charged from 76% to 84% in 30 minutes . I realise that such a short charge isn't a proper test but it looks promising.
I used the 1amp port and will as you cautioned avoid the 2.5 amp port.

[Q-View] Is there a way to fast charge from anything but the wall charger?

I know that HTC devices see my car charger, which is a 2.1 amp, as a usb charger. But I know that chad makes a kernel that will allow us rezound users to fast charge from "usb" chargers. I would just be happy if I could manage to keep it alive while using it in the car. But using anything but the HTC charger I can't. Does anybody have any suggestions?

There is another way but it requires kernel modification

[Q] Is it possible to make HTC devices charge faster than, 1Ah

I ask because I know that my bionic could pull about 1.5Ah. So is it a kernel limitation, or something else? I can pull 1A now, but nothing more. I know it's not much, but it would be nice to be able to get a little more juice from a 30 min charge.

It may be a hardware limitation, but I'm not sure.
I didn't even know there were 1.5A chargers lol.

I was using a 2.1 Ah charger for an ipad. The bionic would only pull 1.5Ah from it though. My Rezound, and when I had the tbolt, will/would only pull 1A. That's why I wasn't sure if it was hardware or kernel support limitations.
It's probably a kernel limitation, but it could be hardware. The thing to be careful with fast charging is that it really heats up the battery, and hot batter = shortened life. It could conscious decision by HTC to protect the battery.

After kernel source drops, devs can tweak the kernel to permit faster charging than the stock kernel. That's what happened on the Incredible. Everybody included a fast-charge kernel in ROMs.

^^ yep chad did it with the INC im sure he can do it for the rez once source is out.
I have a dual usb car charger. One side is 1A, and the other 2A. Interesting when I plug the Rezound into the 1A side it says charging AC, but the 2A side says charging USB. But yet the 2A side WILL charge my ipad and Nook Color. I had Chad's kernel with the Dinc, but I find on the rezound AC charging is fast enough for me....as long as the phone recognizes it as AC charging.

Certain charging cables are charging only and no data they always return as AC charging on your phones. It seems to be hit or miss with data cables.
It might be possible but doesn't solely depend on the wall charger or car charger. The wall and car chargers are not actually chargers. The a/c charger is composed of a transformer, rectifier, and dc-dc converter typically. The car charger is just a dc-dc converter. The phone has the actual charger ic or a pmic that charges the battery based on the current supplied and what the micro-processor tells it to do. There are many other factors as well, but it might be possible (depending on which pmic the manufacturer used) to change what the processor tells the ic to charge at.

battery only lasts 2 hours while using mhl adapter

using an mhl adapter to run an emulator on my tv. Also using a Bluetooth Wii controller at the same time. My batt only lasts 2 hours on a full charge. that just seems fast to me. the batt is charging while plugged in to the adapter but still dies. Is the mhl adapter using enough power to kill the batt in only 2 hours even while charging? seems a little useless to me if that is the case. I haven't tried watching a movie with it. Is that any better? anyone else experience the same?
Ate you pulling power from the tv? Or do you have a separate power adapter plugged in?

the power source for the mhl adapter comes from a USB port on my cable box.

good idea. I'll try that. Thanks.
Nope same results using the charger that came with the phone. Phone gets pretty hot and only 2 hours of life from full charge. Even tried turning screen brightness all the way down.
If you are soff or unlocked I suggest trying a different kernel. It takes a few days to a kernel to really settle

The reason why is that you have to have a mhl compatible tv. Mhl compatible tvs will charge your device while connected. They also let you use the tvs remote to control the phone while connected to mhl. This will explain a little better what I mean.
