battery only lasts 2 hours while using mhl adapter - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

using an mhl adapter to run an emulator on my tv. Also using a Bluetooth Wii controller at the same time. My batt only lasts 2 hours on a full charge. that just seems fast to me. the batt is charging while plugged in to the adapter but still dies. Is the mhl adapter using enough power to kill the batt in only 2 hours even while charging? seems a little useless to me if that is the case. I haven't tried watching a movie with it. Is that any better? anyone else experience the same?

Ate you pulling power from the tv? Or do you have a separate power adapter plugged in?

the power source for the mhl adapter comes from a USB port on my cable box.

It's probably only a 500 ma USB port. Like he said try using a real charger.

good idea. I'll try that. Thanks.

Nope same results using the charger that came with the phone. Phone gets pretty hot and only 2 hours of life from full charge. Even tried turning screen brightness all the way down.

If you are soff or unlocked I suggest trying a different kernel. It takes a few days to a kernel to really settle

The reason why is that you have to have a mhl compatible tv. Mhl compatible tvs will charge your device while connected. They also let you use the tvs remote to control the phone while connected to mhl. This will explain a little better what I mean.

Fast Charge Kernel

So I am eagerly awaiting S-Off and flashing new ROMS/kernels/radios and I started to think about how slow my Rezound seems to charge. I know that the Thunderbolt had some kernels that included fast charge capability. Just think of the extra juice we can get in a short amount of time with FastCharge, UnderVolt/UnderClock, and more precise power management.
Does anyone know if this is in the works for the Rezound?
My Rezound charges up pretty fast, especially compared to my Droid Charge.

if your charging on USB it wont be giving the phone full power, to remedy this get a spare cable and disconnect the data so only the power is working
not sure if it works on the computer, but in my car it definitely worked
yeah definitely do a search for USB AC Charging. You can take those car chargers and wall chargers that don't give you the full 1A and do a quick solder job on them to make them work. I just did it with two of mine and it works great. Battery info now says Charging (AC) instead of charging (USB) and they both pull north of +700mA while charging instead of ~+300mA when on regular USB.
Yeah they called it the charge cause its always on the charger

i did that. opened one up and clipped the green & white data cables. the phone still says "charging usb" though and doesn't seem to charge much faster...
Yea, I have tried every possible method of grounding out the data pins. I currently have my phone connected to a computer power supply I converted to a desktop supply with 4 USB charging ports. It can supply up to 13A if the device needs it. The data pins are all shorted and the housings grounded. The phone still says USB Charging....It does seem to pull more current and does seem to be charging faster.
I know that there is some hardware limit on the charging current, but with an SBC kernel (please someone make one...) I think that this bug will be fixed. I am going to try the Trickle Charge technique from previous HTC phones to get a full 100% charge. I will let you all know how it goes.
Or ...
Fast charging is built in ...
... turn off your phone when charging, and use a 1A charger.
DONE.

So I tested this idea that Fast Charging is "built-in", I used a usb cable that I split connected through an Ammeter to test how much current the phone was drawing from the charger in the one and off state. From my tests I found that my phone, no matter what the state does not draw more than 400mA from the supply. My charger is capable of supplying up to 13A to the four usb ports I installed. I also tested this with the HTC stock charger rated at 1A. This had the same results. I think that there is a hardware/software limit built in.
Just to be clear and justify its place in Dev, this thread is asking if there are any developers out there who are working on an SBC (Superior Battery Charging) Kernel for the Rezound. I fully understand the workings of power supplies (I'm an Electrical Engineer) and am just trying to see if anyone is working on this.
And it still belongs in General. That doesn't justify it. If YOU developed a Kernel, or were posting it, then it could be posted here. Questions, suggestions, complaints, ideas, etc belong in General.
Not sure accurate battery monitor widgets are, but mine has shown upwards of 850mah on charging and over 700 on draw (never saw that on my thunderbolt).
It does seem to slow down as it gets close to full (over 90%), then I never get more than 200mah charge.

discharging while using HDMI out??

I have the HDMI out hooked to a 7" monitor screen in my truck using the HTC MHL adaptor & the stock 1 amp A/C charger. I have A/C power in my truck & the charger is plugged into that, but my battery widget is reporting it is USB charging for some reason.
I have my screen at 25% brightness & NOTHING else running except Act1 to show a movie. I am using the HTC 2750 extended battery/cover.
Even though it shows it is charging, it discharges a LOT while playing a movie. I have had two Rezounds and both did the same thing.
I was dropping off my Wife this morning and she was watching a movie for close to 1/2 hour & my battery dropped almost 10% during that time. I started at 99% charged & by the time I dropped her off it was at 90% in less than 1/2 hour.
Is there a more powerful charger I can buy that will fix this problem??

The charging is actually controlled by the phone. It drip feeds the battery. I'm looking for the tool I saw the other day to change that setting. As soon as I find it again, I'll post it.

sounds like the mhl adapter doesn't have the wiring setup right to trigger the 1A draw by the phone... maybe figure out which wires needs to be crossed? We've had this problem with similar non-oem wall charger/ car charger setups where people would go in and solder the middle two pins of the usb port together to trigger the charging mode. While the AC adapter you're using is working right, the MHL piece might not be setup right.
Where did you get your MHL adapter with hdmi out and charger in plugs?
Thanks.

Probably not. I'm guessing at the very least you'd need to use the unsecured stock kernel.

[Q] Battery discharge while connected?

So i'm trying to determine if my phone is messed up or this is a feature.
I noticed that even when having the phone connected to power and i using it (either watch a youtube video, sending txt, average stuff) the phone's battery is going down.
Tried using it as a gps. Bought the cardock installed it. Using google navigation went on a 2 hour drive, by the end of the trip, 20% battery while hooked to the car's power.
Am i missing something here? I even changed batteries with the same results.
Tried several roms clean rom the ICS and the GB version , stock RUU GB and ICS.
Anybody encountered a similar situation? If so what did you do to fix it?
Basically ive noticed if you are using GPS, WiFi tether, or doing somthing that ramps up the cpu like watching videos or games That the charger can barley keep up.
The best thing you can do is leave it alone, make sure your using a 1 amp charger, and leave it in the open not covered up so it doesnt overheat
You are using a charger that is not supplying enough "juice". get a battery widget and see when you are charging if you are using USB or AC charging, but it's going real slow and USB. Use a difference charger that supplies enough power.
Is it the Verizon ibolt dock? You need atleast a 1a charger and a charge only/non data cable.
So the stock cable is not enough to power this device?

The stock cable and stock wall charger should not drain, as they are both rated to supply a full 1amp (1000 milliamp) of power. The ibolt car dock (as well as many car docks and chargers) are only rated for 500mA (1/2 amp) of power. The Rezound can easily pull down 800+mA at a time. If you're only supplying 500, you're slowly losing charge.

HDTV Adapter phone charging issues

Bought one of the 3FHUBEG HDTV adapters today to mirror my S3 onto my tv. According to the guide i should plug the official charger into the adapter and then plug the charger into the wall. When i do this i get NOTHING on my tv screen and the phone will not charge. I thought the adapter was DOA so after trying many things i removed the wall charger and instead i plugged the usb into my pc and voila it worked and the phone started charging and the S3 mirrored onto my tv.
It seems to be working okay this way but why isnt it working when i plug the usb end of the charging cable into the uk plug adapter and then connect it to my socket? Would i be doing any damage by just powering it via usb on the tv?
Im really confused. I charge my phone normally overnight and it works no problem with the usb charging lead plugged into the wall socket and then the micro usb into the phone but for some strange reason the phone will not power the HDTV adapter this way and will only work by USB power and not mains power. Any help appreciated. :good:
Check your cable first, some of them have 4 pins only and this can be a reason. If not, I'm not sure but wall charger have 1A output and this can be too much for adapter. USB output is 550mA so nearly half of it. Charging from USB won't damage anything, it'll only take longer to charge your phone.

It's definately a 5 pin and its an official cable. I'm just concerned as every video i've seen etc shows the charger being plugged into the wall. When i was charging it via usb, as its a slower charge, the phone seemed to be losing more power using the HDTV adapter than the charge was capable of charging, i.e the phone battery was draining power quicker than the USB could charge it. Absolute mystery.
Hmmm, maybe it's just so badly made...

Wireless charger??

I'm rocking the zero lemon battery and since I've bought plenty of chargers and none seem to fix my slow charging problems is there any wireless chargers? Will me using the zero lemon battery not allow me to use a wireless? Also if all this is fine, does anyone have any recommendations??

Even though you can try to use that battery with wireless charging it won't fix your slow charging rate. Wireless charging goes max to 0.6 A (600 ma) when it comes to charging. So it's 1/3 the speed of your regular wall socket charger.

Something is wrong with your charger or cable then. My ZL charged from ~78%-100% in about an hour last night. The plug adapter that came with the phone and a USB cable I've used for a while, from a Nook I think. Wireless will be VERY slow. It's fine for topping off, but if you drain it down you will want to use a wired charger. You can use a wireless charger with the ZL, there's some info in one of the threads talking about what you need to order. You can't use the contacts on the back of the phone for it, you need to use one of the low profile USB plug type.
If you want fast charging you need to use the adapter that came with your phone, or another known good adapter, and a good quality USB cable. It doesn't have to be USB3, a USB2 cable will work fine, but it needs to be good quality. Monoprice is a good place for inexpensive, but good quality cables.
If you are connecting to a computer USB port, you will charge slow unless it's a USB3 with a USB3 cable.

Try a usb 2.0 cable to charge it.
The little extra part for the 3.0 seems to have gone bad in my phone after only 4 months.
If I charge it with the cable that came with it, I have the results you are saying.
If I charge it with a 3 year old usb 2.0 style charger, it charges fine.
Good luck!
Get a usb voltage/current tester. They are like $10. You can test all your chargers and cords and find the under performers.

Yes, it drops to 97% straight away. This is because it drains in the background a little as the charger doesn't trickle charge. See this for an explanation http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/1...bump-charging-and-inconsistent-battery-drain/
