Please Help - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Firstly I have searched but have come up with no answers.
I rooted my galaxy s2 with CF root, and of course got the yellow triangle.
So I downloaded the stock Kernel from Here
I downloaded the XWKI4 English version.
So when I unzipped it it went to a .tar.md5.
I flash this through Odin and when the phone reboots the triangle is gone but I also unrooted the phone, lost Super User & CWM.
Any help would be great? Really bugging me.
Also what is the file I should copy from the Galaxy to my computer to be safe?
Thank you.

Kernel_I9100XWKI4.exe extracts as Kernel_I9100XWKI4.tar, nothing to do with .tar.md5. I therefore suspect you've flashed a ROM, (maybe GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XWKI4_I9100XEUKD1_I9100XXKI1), rather than just a kernel.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Just read and follow the instructions for removing the yellow triangle as posted .All of the instructions dont just stop at halfway .
jje

Thank you, I was following the instructions but I was downloading the wrong file.
Problem solved thank you.
EDIT**
Ive been reading and it seems I install a new Kernel as a ZIP file in CWM
Is this correct?

Yes, you can always install a new kernel.zip via cwm and the yellow triangle will not come back.
Greetings Psy

Detail on this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
The root is working now
Thank You very Much.
When reboot the device it comes back with Yellow triangle
I have followed the below instruction but getting confused on Step 4
Please could you kindly guide me
Getting rid of that pesky warning triangle during boot
It is definitely possible to remove that pesky warning triangle during boot when running a custom kernel, though you should be well aware that this method does NOT reset the custom kernel flash counter. The steps are not complicated, but they aren't easy either, so read well.
(1) Make sure you have CF-Root flashed (see the first post). You must have the "CWM Manager" app available.
(2) Make sure you have the same version of CF-Root extracted until you have the zImage file. (ZIP --> extract --> TAR --> extract --> zImage).
(3) Push the zImage file to /sdcard . It must still be called zImage !
(4) Find an original Samsung signed stock kernel (preferably from the same stock firmware you have, but it's not terribly important)
(5) Reboot into download mode (adb reboot download, or boot the device with home and volume-down pressed)
(6) Fire up ODIN, and flash the Samsung kernel
(7) Boot the device with the stock kernel. CWM Manager will still be available.
(8) Start CWM Manager, select Flash Kernel, and select the zImage from CF-Root you previously put on your SD-card. The kernel will flash and the device will reboot.
(9) You will now notice you no longer have the warning triangle during boot, but you are actually running CF-Root with all it's goodies!
(10) In the future, if you only use the Flash Kernel option inside CWM Manager instead of ODIN, the triangle will not return, neither will your flash counter increase. But keep in mind, that CWM Manager can only handle a direct "zImage" if you are NOT running a kernel with full busybox support (this is currently needed for flashing kernels out of .TAR and .ZIP files)
I got it all working
I would like to say a big THANK YOU FOR everyone. and special thank you Nyssa1104
Thank You

@ZACQ8,
I rooted my son's S2 using this method -> http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s2-newworks-on-all-galaxy-s2-variants/ and now need to install CWM. Was thinking of "touch", but don't know how.
Went to the CF-root link in your signature but not sure which one to choose ... my firmware before the root was 2.3.6, but has now gone to 2.3.5 and the base band is XXKI4. Can you suggest the exact file I should download? Can you also tell me if the touch version is available?

Ok. I seriously to know why this method has failed for you.
No problem, try this.
To gain ROOT access,

To remove yellow triangle and reset your binary counter:
1. Download triangle away app ( i already posted the link)

i dont no why ur so much worried about the 'Yellow Triangle' thing as if it will simply Gobble ur phone, its quite common to have that yellow triangle once u root ur phone, which all of us have gone thro' already.
Also removed that yellow triangle successfully with the 'Triangle Away' app for sure ma8, so no need to worry.
go ahead and root ur phone using the .tar file of siyah kernel v4.1.4 and then use 'Triangle Away' app to remove the Yellow Triangle

its ok buddy, its quite common human nature of people getting annoyed since they trying to help u and urn't taking there advice properly in the first place
now brief me a bit, like for the first time when u tried to root ur phone with the CF-root kernel u mentioned in OP , what procedure u adopted
im not sure if this is why i got the yellow triangle problem but what i did was i accidently downloaded a wrong firmware model and i flash it.after i flash it i keep getting this yellow triangle.
oh ya about how i tried to root my phone with cf-root
1.i downloaded the XXLQ5 cf-root.
2.i downloaded odin and flash my phone with the cf root.
3.after the odin software said pass! i took out the usb cable.it started to reset my phone but i got stuck where it said "samsung s2 gt-i9100 with a yellow triangle down the text".
4.i have to flash a xxki3 kernel then flash the ics/gingerbread firmware model(exp.ics 4.0.4/gb2.3.5 any model will do.) to make my phone back to normal.
so basically i cant get pass the yellow triangle everytime i tried to flash something.

Help with rooting my Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-19300

Hi all,
I use to own a htc sensation and now well purchased my new shiny S3. Read a couple of threads and do not want to risk bricking this as it only arrived this morning.
So the spec of my model is the following :
Model : GT19300
Android : 4.1.1
Base:19300xxdlid
kernel 3.0.31
build jroo3c
Just to confirm, some tut's said install kies on pc before rooting and connect the device at least once before running the root, others state please remove all samsung software from the pc. Which is correct ?
I also have seen this message : IMPORTANT: DO NOT USE THIS TOOLKIT TO ROOT OR FLASH CUSTOM RECOVERY ON A SNAPDRAGON MODEL SGS3 AS THE INCLUDED IMAGES WILL NOT WORK ON IT
How can i tell which mine is ?
So would you people recommend the toolkit way or the other way, as i have been looking at the following thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488
I'm not a complete newb as i had the sensation for 2 years and had that rooted so just some guidance please as this is a new device cheers

I personally used Chainfire's Odin method, which worked flawlessly. No need for Kies, just download Odin and use the .tar file he provides.
If your model number is GT-i9300, you will have the Exynos version of the phone, so you can ignore the warning about Snapdragon processors; that only applies to the LTE US version.
Read the following thread - it tells you everything you need to know.

I have managed to boot the device back on since then.

[Solved] [Q] How to restore phone to stock for warranty reasons?

Hi,
Sorry I'm sure this has been covered but I haven't found a good description among the dross.
I recently rooted my SII phone to Resurrection Remix 3.1.2 and have been enjoying it however my screen appears to have developed a fault where the horizontal pixels are alternatively light and dark (ish) giving the display a streaky window effect. Since the phone is under 6 months old I would like to get Samsung to repair it. I believe it is legal to do son in the EU, but I don't particularly want to fight that battle unless I have to.
So how do I restore my phone back to a stock ROM and remove the yellow triangle of rooted success?
PS My ROM has CWM. I also have a backup of my original unrooted ROM.
download and use this program to get rid of the yellow triangle and reduce your custom counter to zero.

then using cwm recovery do a factory reset, then restore your back up and you are done.

Ah good! I was on the right track then. I'd run triangle away in the hope that CWM wouldn't update my counter when installing a new ROM.
There's one thing. I do have my original ROM (well with a CF kernel installed) but it's a vodaphone one, is it possible to install a generic one instead? Would I install any for the GT-I9100, as they should have both ROM and kernel right so work as long as they're for the right device? I'd so can I use CWM to install it, what files do I need and what's the procedure?
counter is only raised when you use odin, flashing with cwm does not raise the counter since it is done internally.
Yes, a generic one should work.
Procedure using cwm
1. Download the rom you want to flash in zip format to your computer.
2. copy the zip file to your external sdcard.
3. reboot into recovery
4. click on install zip from sdcard.
5. navigate to the zip file you copied earlier and click on it.
6. click on install file
7. after install is finished click on go back, then reboot system.
voilka your finished.

Hmmm....
Well thanks for the reply. That's pretty much the procedure I've just tried without success. I downloaded a ZIP file from SamMobile that was for the UK and the GT-I9100 (I9100XWLQ2_I9100DBTLPO_DBT.zip) copied it onto the phone booted into CWM factory resetted then tried installing zip from internal card. It opened it but gave and error "bad" and didn't continue the installation.
The ZIP itself contains two files (now checking after failed install) :
Code:
Archive: I9100XWLQ2_I9100DBTLPO_DBT.zip
Length Date Time Name
--------- ---------- ----- ----
682475597 2012-11-15 02:34 I9100XWLQ2_I9100XXLQ6_I9100DBTLPO_HOME.tar.md5
276480 2012-11-15 02:35 SS_DL.dll
--------- -------
682752077 2 files
Is this just an unlucky bad file, or is there some other procedure for ROMs from SamMobile???
You've downloaded an Odin flashable rom. You're supposed to unpack the zip, throw the DLL away & flash the tar.md5 in the PDA section of Odin.
If you want CWM (zip) flashable stock roms, there's some in General somewhere (I don't have a link; search).
Edit - But as you say you want to return the phone under warranty, make sure you reset the flash counter with Triangle Away before you lose root, then flash the package you've already downloaded as I mentioned in Odin; if you don't know how to do this (you should) - search. Then do a factory reset.

Hi,
Thanks. That will be the problem. I don't think installing stock ROMs using Odin is the right approach as it will increase the triangle counter (wont it?). So I need to find a stock ROM for CWM. Any links would be appreciated (especially since the search function on XDA is currently down).
Either use Mobile Odin (read the thread on here in order to learn how to use it if you don't know) to flash stock rom, or flash the old bootloader so you can use a jig to reset the counter once you've flashed the stock rom (there's a link to it in one of Intratech's threads).
Pretty sure I said I don't have links for CWM versions in my previous post. Troll thru General & you'll find the thread(s) eventually. Or wait till search is back up. Or, heaven forbid, use a Google search with XDA appended to your search terms.
Getting this done is going to take a bit of effort on your part. We can't do it all for you.

Like you said you don't have links, but maybe someone else does. I've ordered a jig in case I have to use that route. Found a link on it here.
A troll through first 3 pages of links on google didn't turn up much useful info on CWM stock ROMs (since it's not possible to search one forum on google, or tell which forum is linked without opening it). Except one link saying that there aren't any stock ROMs for CWM and one that may have some but I'm not sure about.
Anyway spent quite long enough on it for now. Will try again later.
Ok, well I came up with another option which was to install the tar.md5 file using Odin Mobile. Which I did, but it didn't go particularly well. It installed but while it will show the booting screen it wont boot all the way up.
I'm not sure what the best approach is now. The problem may have been something to do with downgrading Android versions - I'm not 100% sure on what version RR 3.1.2 is but the stock ROM I installed is 4.0.4. I guess I'm going to have to use Odin3 desktop now to install which means the triangle counter will increase and I'll have to use a jig as suggested to reset it (see my link above about how to do this).
Can I just use Odin3 to install or is there some other procedure to follow for downgrading Android using Odin3 - like having to wipe data / factory reset when moving ROMs in CWM?
OH! Hold on I didn't realise stock ROMs also had recovery mode. I wiped data / factory reset and cleared cache there and it seems to have booted. So now I just need to figure out if my triangle count is OK.
I recall hearing that there is also an Odin count to take care of is that true?
reboot into download mode. volume down + home key + power and check what the the flash counter says.
If you used triangle away and the flashed through recovery or mobile odin, the counter should read zero but if you used odin from the computer then you may hace a count of 1.
You need to be rooted to use triangle away, so unless you want to go through the whole flashing routine just to reset the counter again.
Since you used recovery you should be safe.

Thanks Cosmic Blue,
That shows that it's at stock without a counter. What I thought as I didn't have a yellow triangle of rooting success but wanted to check.
