I've owned everything from a Xoom to Coby POS and have tried doing Power Point Presentations on them. The Prime is the first one that allows me not to have to touch the screen to get the slides to go! Even the mighty Ipad2 you have to touch the screen. Ive tried 3 different windows based clickers and they all work!!!
Most projectors have a standard VGA connection so I use a HP HDMI to VGA converter I got for $50. It works great no issues whatsoever.
I've done 4 hour presentation with the Prime as the main computer connected to the projector during a meeting and no issues with battery life. I set it to conserve battery and set the screen not to time out. I get about 12-16 hrs with the Dock connected. Whats nice is I can also use the tablet for notes as I'm presenting.
I sold my windows 7 laptop as the Prime has now become my computer on the go. If I need to access QuickBooks or other files I have been using Splashtop on my Office Computer which works awesome.
I put together a quick video on how I have it setup.

Nice! I wanted to watch a movie the other day and decided to try out the prime. Streamed a movie off my server to the prime, hooked it up via HDMI to projector and stereo system. All running within a minute... needed an easy button.
Wow! what a great idea mate! thanks for that- never would have thought to use it for that....
what's the model # on the VGA converter?
Thank you very much! You've just solved my presentation issues. I appreciate you posting this.

That second link uses mini hdmi, while the TF201 has a micro hdmi output.
There is an Asus adapter for the TF201 with a micro hdmi plug.
I see the ASUS version on their website, but not anywhere for sale. Even in the accessories thread it just links to their website and not anywhere that actually has it available.
The HP one i use a HDMI Coupling which works fine
Nice, I can use my Prime for Xocai(amazing products) presentations also!
Thanks!
Here we go, monoprice has the best prices for quality cables, they have just about anything you'll need.
Hi,
what clicker do you use, i tried my bluetooth microsoft presenter 8000 one, the blutooth pairs with it just fine but the mouse doesnt show any activity
thanks
Nice man, i'm doing the same thing with my Prime, there is actually a hdmi-vga adapter directly from asus. Was pretty cheap ordered from the same online store i bought the prime (30francs=~30$). Works perfectly.
Who needs laptops Its sad there are actually so many people out there who spend so much money on a macbook pro and an ipad, while they could have both for half the price in one product...
Yesterday i was at my friends place and used his macbook, then i posted something and wanted to hit "post" on the screen. I touched and for obvious reasons it didnt work, my friend was like "wtf are you tapping on my screen man" priceless situation.
I can also use the tablet for notes as I'm presenting.
Paul I think you've helped me find the gold at the end of the rainbow. I've been searching for months online to see if any Android device can support 'presenter view' like PowerPoint 2007 can via the Windows external monitor setup. It sounds like the Prime will do it based on your comment 'I can also use the tablet for notes as I'm presenting.' But you didn't show a photo of that. You mention it only in passing but this is huge to me. No other android device (except the Atrix possibly) can run slides via the hdmi out on a projector, while showing a different view of the notes on the Android screen. Not even my international Galaxy Note. It shows the same thing on both screens.
Can you please verify that you can have slides on the projector while at the same time viewing presenter notes on the Prime? And then verify which office program you're using? Thanks! I may just be able to justify a new Prime in my near future!

i'm also curious about this as to my knowledge the tf201 only supports a mirrored HDMI output. in fact i think this is currently an android limitation - there is no concept of multiple displays, which makes sense considering every android app is currently full screen. even if android system supported multiple displays, any use of them would need to be implemented within each individual app given that there is no "window manager" in android to move things around.
separate from this, can you comment on which office app you were using to display the powerpoint slides? polaris, docs to go, etc? i presume that the office app itself has to support the standard keymappings for a clicker.
'Windows Extended Desktop' Android equivalent
Motorola has an API that allow a developer to render a different image via the HDMI port, than what is displayed on the Android device. So it CAN be done if the manufacturer wants to make it happen: http: slash slash developer.motorola.com/docstools/library/motorola-hdmi-dual-screen-api/
wireless projector?
this is a great use of the transformer prime indeed. i also bought one of the micro hdmi cords from monoprice and it works great.
i am however looking for a solution to connect my prime to a projector on a wireless network. i searched a few days ago but couldn't find anything useful. currently, i connect to the projector from my windows desktop or laptop with a software called "network capture 5". i do have splashtop installed on those pcs and can connect my prime to them and then just control the other pc but i really just want to cut out the middle man per se and also use files that are locally stored on the prime.
anyone with a wireless network enabled projector have any input? any help or tips in the right direction would be appreciated.

no 'presentation mode' on TP
OK this XDA thread gives pretty solid confirmation that the TP is NOT capable of 'presenter view': forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1043466.html. Bummer.
i bought the Accell J129B-002B Micro HDMI (Type D) to VGA Adapter to use with my dell 1200mp projetor and when i connect it my prime shows hdmi connected but nothing shows on the projector or my tv for that matter. any idea?

I bought this Bluetooth Mini QWERTY keyboard w/ Touchpad from ankaka.com. I plan to use it with my Gtab in docking mode connected through HDMI to my 42" LCD TV:

It's been a month and has shipped but still has not arrived in San Jose, CA. I have ordered other items and it takes about 4 weeks. Excellent prices and pretty neat items. I also ordered their Leather Gtablet case w/ USB Mini keyboard
This is the link for the Leather Case w/ USB Mini Keyboard for 10" Tab: http://www.ankaka.com/leather-case-with-usb-mini-keyboard-for-10-inch-tablet-pc_p47031.html
You can get it faster but at twice the price. Also, Logitech makes a portable trackball mini bluetooth keyboard but it's around $150.00. It's a very nice product, but way too expensive IMO to use exclusively w/ the GTab.

anybody have some stuff to add?
I can pair my Logitech diNovo Mini, but it will not connect.
I have one of the IOGEAR Wireless Keyboards with a trackball/mouse button built into it. I bought it for use with my HTPC, but it seemed to work fine (both mouse and keyboard) whenever I plugged it into my G tablet. At the time, I was running VeganTAB 5.1...I can try it on TnT-Lite sometime later today.
It's a very small USB dongle that plugs into the tablet, and the actual keyboard is a little wider than the size of the tablet, for reference. Think laptop keyboard. Extremely handy for my HTPC, but I might try carrying it around to class and see how it works.
anyways, I can't post links yet, but if you search newegg for IOGEAR GKM561R it'll come up. it's about $49 or so.

The Dongle. I wasnt aware that it worked bluetooth. The touch pad works but it's pretty slow.
My touchpad works but I can only move the "X" 3/4 of the screen. It does work with emulators though But I am using the dongle plugged into the docking station. I also noticed I have to switch the touchpads vertical/horizontal to get it moving correctly. Anyone with the same?
Also noticed there are 2 models of this keyboard.....I have the USB wireless one...they also make a bluetooth. The bluetooth driver is on the website.
I ran the Android.apk file they have for the bluetooth version just to see what it does and it force closes under Vegan 5.1 ( installs fine but )
Im using logitech dinovo mini with galaxy tab.

Doesn't having a mouse and keyboard kind of defeat the purpose of having a tablet?
After fighting to get a bluetooth keyboard to work with sporadic success I picked up a Superior Loftek Rii Touch N7 Mini Wireless Keyboard 2.4 GHz from Amazon. This is a Wireless USB keyboard and uses a tiny little dongle that sticks out about a quarter of an inch on the usb port in the GTab.
It works great. No issues running under Vegan. Well, one tiny issue, like others have reported with other keyboards, the touchpad seems to only cover about 3/4 of the Gtab's screen. But I hardly ever use the touchpad anyhow.

For light typing you could get by without a keyboard/mouse. But if you're like me and use your gTab almost as a desktop replacement and have to do a lot email sending and responding, you really appreciate a physical keyboard.
I always want to use my flyer to connect with projector to support my presentation . Now I already have official Flyer hdmi connecter (with this cable you can use hdmi cable to connect with your HDTV see attachment for the picture)
and i found this cable on Ebay which is convert hdmi male to vga female (see another attachment for the picture)
Can i use this 2 cable together to connect with VGA male from the projecter?
Anyone have idea about this?

I think you need more than a cable. You are having to convert from digital to analog. I use this http://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Compon...XVBC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1317658374&sr=8-2 and have been able to connect my Acer Iconia W500 and my Archos 70 to my computer monitor through a KVM switch using this converter. There are some cheaper ones out there, but I know this one works (using it right now, in fact).
There are some unknowns in there: I don't know if the Flyer supports HDCP over HDMI. If that's the case, protected content probably won't play over the VGA adapter.
The bigger question is: does your projector have a DVI connector? If it does, you're best off using an HDMI-DVI cable.

It sounds like it ought to work, but you really can't know until you try it. Assuming the adapters work individually, I don't see a reason this can't work. The only thing I'd be concerned about is trying to play copy-protected videos, but if you're just using it for PowerPoint type of stuff, I'm guessing this will work... but you really won't know until you try it.
I know that's not very helpful, but it sounds like not a lot of people are doing what you want to do.
If you do get that adapter, please let us know what happens. If nothing else, someone may be searching for an htc flyer vga adapter and stumble across this post. Letting the world know how this solution works will be a nice gift to the future.

Are there any good news from your experimentation, Hellogop?
The Flyer outputs digital HDMI only (as most devices do) so you must use a adapter that converts from digital to analog VGA. For example looking on ebay...
This cable @ $8: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-hdmi-m...264?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b609b180
will not work.
However this adapter @$28 : http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-HDMI-Ma...ultDomain_0&hash=item1e66dc4db9#ht_2223wt_952
Probably will, but I caveat this because I have not personally tried this adapter.
You could also use this single adapter @~ $35 to go from the micro USB on the Flyer to a VGA port, http://www.amazon.com/Menotek-Adapter-Galaxy-Tablet-Sensation/dp/B005K9XEP4
Note that some of these conversions to analog will only work at 480P resolution SD TV not at HD 720P.
Yeahhh Hope This picture can tell all ^ ^
So this 2 cable can work that the good news.
But actually the Singature is not 100% clear but i think it OK to use for your presentation.
When you connect the HTC cable your Flyer's speaker will not work so you need to use other speaker to connect with aux port on the HTC cable.
If you have any question please ask. Now I happy with the result http://media.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

I also have a mhl adapter from pny but I did not connect power to the adapter and the external display worked. Was your display on the phone and tv laggy or smooth after you connected the adapter? Were your videos in sync with the image produced on the phone itself?
MHL adapter kit
The MHL adapter for HTC DNA from iBOLT features a 2 meter (6ft) extension cable so you can stand in front of the TV and play Angry Bird, racing or whatever other games you prefer. With licensed MHL technology it is a real 30 frames per second so there's no delay and the sound quality is great when playing even advanced games. My kids love MHL, they only want to watch Netflix kids programs now without painful commercial interruptions.
The only thing to be aware of with Android MHL is that some sites block the HDMI port out. Two examples are Hulu+ and HBO (they don't block it from iOS). Most others, like Netflix and almost all web streaming sites works perfect. Google Play has an amazing picture quality on the newer videos when you rent them, absolutely clear 1080p resolution if you have enough WiFi bandwidth. The best use of MHL is to show photos and videos though on the big screen TV. The quality with good adapter is near perfect and the phone is charging while you are doing it too.
The "cyber Monday" price for an iBOLT complete MHL adapter kit with 6ft HDMI cable and the required 1 amp microUSB wall charger is only $24.95. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll check back daily here. Here's a YouTube video showing the technology and the kit I was referring to. The Samsung OEM has a very good reputation if you don't like this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmaKIJ90Xz4&feature=plcp
The image and everything was in sync... Sounds were good I watched a little but of transformers... The picture looked like crap but that is because it's compressed over Google play... You tube looked great

I bought one and it works well, but the framerate seems a little slower. It is usable, but certain apps seem to not allow being shown via the HDMI such as NFL Mobile and Hulu Plus.
The Samsung adapter for GSIII works on the DNA.
I have experienced issues with hardware accelerated subtitles using the MHL cable. Viki shows video but no words and that is kind of useless for me. Fortunately downloaded subtitles play in MXplayer with the software subtitle option.

I think I know the answer to this question but I will ask anyway...lol
Is there any MHL to HDMI adapter cables that do NOT need an external power source for the adapter? Seems kinda crappy to have to plug power into the adapter,
If so, a link to one would be greatly appreciated
Just put my order in to upgrade from my Thunderbolt to the DNA. Figure I will want to get a wireless charging pad, the MHL to HDMI adapter, and a micro USB to USB to mount external storgae.
As an aside...I cannot believe no company has actually created a micro USB to Micro SD adpater cable! I saw some links to threads here where people actually built their own...pretty cool...but hard to believe no company has stepped up for this. With the form factor fo phones moving more towards the DNA, One X, etc, I would think those would sell like hotckaes!
While browsing this thread I came to wonder about the DNA's mirroring. So when the right cable is connected, mirroring becomes available? Makes me wonder if a cable exists that might be micros USB on one side and (don't laugh) RCA on the other. My car's head unit had an add-on that allows RCA video inputs to display on the nav screen. It worked back when I used an iPad occassionally.

Hi everyone,
I got a good few hours with the Galaxy Note 3 over the weekend, tried out a bunch of stuff and can answer a lot of the questions people have here in relation to what sorts of connectivity work and which don't (the USB 3.0 has people wondering whether their existing stuff will work).
A few findings of mine from the weekend:
External drives work, but unfortunately NTFS formatted drives still don't work on stock ROMs. It had the power to spin up a 1TB Seagate drive! Unfortunately the drive was NTFS formatted so couldn't do more to see how well it was working, but definitely was powered with a solid indicator light. Promising.
The Smart Dock works with the Note 3
The S3/Note 2 MHL adapters definitely work
The Samsung MHL 2.0 adapter works without needing a charging input plugged in and IS outputting at 60Hz
USB audio working, I tried several DACs. The ones that worked were the HiFimeDIY, Tiny-M, HeadAmp Pico. Unfortunately Apex Glacier did not work (did not work on the S4 either).
USB keyboards/mice working as they did with the older Samsungs
PS3 controller working over USB OTG
Ditto for the Xbox 360 for Microsoft controller (which required an app on older Samsungs in order to work)
Logitech F310 controller works too
Ditto the Logitech F710
It also worked with a cheapie gamepad from Ebay (like $6), although button mappings seemed limited and did not have time to try it in emulators etc to see whether all could be mapped.
BT keyboard and mouse working, as expected
IR blaster via the inbuilt app works great with my LG TV
MHL and USB OTG do not work together using the Samsung MHL 2.0 adapter
Moga Pro gamepad working well
Tried several ethernet adapters, none work.
Unfortunately the one I had did not have the USB 3.0 cable/charger, so could not benchmark read/write speeds or charging speeds using that connectivity.

This arrived for me this week, finally got around to testing it tonight and can confirm it works well, which is a great result for the $11USD it cost me from Ebay (including shipping). Considering it basically does everything the Samsung Smart Dock does I'm well pleased.
Few notes:
Yes, it is MHL 1.0 - I kind of expect them to revise these to MHL 2.0 before Samsung actually get around to releasing an updated dock.
USB OTG functions will not work without a 2A Samsung charger connected apparently, I was initially using a cheap charger that happened to be in the multi-board the TV was plugged into and was disappointed when nothing would work. Got of my lazy @$$ and grabbed my Samsung charger and all working. Plugged in my externally powered USB hub and then a Logitech K400 keyboard/mouse combo, card reader with a 16GB full-sized SD card in it and also a Logitech F710 controller. Happily watched some video from the card and then played some Dead Trigger 2 on the HDTV with the controller.
Thanks as always.
I am a bit sad that Samsung did not update the smart dock to MHL 2.0, in my opinion 60Hz is so much better. So for now, there is no option for simultaneous USB OG and MHL 2.0.
Oh and I am seriously tempted by Moga Pro, but it is so damn expensive to import and game support make it even more difficult to buy. I am hoping Google will follow Apple and announce some sort of API for game controllers.
i am also said we still can not do MHL with a USB keyboard+mouse and video out.
That could turn it into a portable laptop. Which is why I want a Note anyway. It's big. Ideally I'd also like it if the Flipcover had a built in bluetooth keyboard with hardware keys or perhaps someone made a QWERTY slider case for it. Yes I know it is big but yes it is what I ideally want.
How cool would it be to set your Note down, plug in keyboard, mouse, and to a monitor? Bam. Get to work (or surfing). Heck I'd probably stop using my laptop for a lot of things! Get a mini-USB hub for like 5 bucks and the possibilities are endless. Would be really cool if someone set up an easy dual-boot Linux and Android ROM too or maybe that is around. But the key is having video AND keyboard/mouse at the same time. I think over time Samsung will add this, though. They deliver on cool features like this. I bet it would be possible to add in an update of software to the Note 3??? USB 3 has so much bandwidth shouldn't it be possible?
Thank you very much!! I have been looking for someone to post this type of info. Has anyone seen anything that points to a OTG cable that supports 3.0 standards?
Thanks a lot. Happy to hear that smart dock works with it. With 2.3Ghz quad core, it definitely will replace my desktop.

I want this too. Something that you can hold without having to prop up the phone/screen. Slider would be ideal. I don't care if it adds a bit of bulk...just not as much as the one I tried for the S4. It was horrible, and didn't work well anyway. I'd love to see a really good solution put out for this.
great info ! thanks !

Thank you for your feedback very informative and useful.. :victory:
Hah - Good to see you over here NZtechfreak. I remember your galaxys3 posts wrt to ps3 controllers from last year.

But to answer your question:
There is now a black one available on eBay
Black Micro USB 3.0 9pin OTG Host Flash Disk Cable for Galaxy Note 3 N9000 10cm
And a white one on cable.cc
Micro USB 3.0 9pin OTG Host Flash Disk Cable for Samsung Galaxy Note3 N9000 White Color 10cm
Thanks for this.
So far i've only been able to test with my old gear, but my existing Samsung MHL 1.0 adapter is working well, and i'm going to be buying the official samsung one on your recommendation.
My chepo amazon OTG cable worked great for my 2TB portable WD harddrive, which itself also sports the Mini USB 3.0 port. It power right up and i was able to play movies from it. (i'm pretty sure it's formatted HFS+.
is there anything special you need to do to get mhl working? ive got THREE mhl adapters that all worked with my galaxy note 1 (n7000) and none of them are doing a thing with the note 3. any ideas?
Anyone can recommend a mhl 2.0 adapter because on amazon the review are 50-50 saying that they are fake?

The mhl adapter for the note 1 is different (pin count) than that of the note 2. The galaxy note 2 + s3 used a newer type of mhl. When searching look for mhl adapters that work for the galaxy s3 and note 2.

I got the Smart Dock Multimedia Hub since I've read that some of the aftermarket and knockoffs occasionally fry itself or the phone. I wasn't interested in risking it so I picked one up for $55 with my VZW account that I have suspended lines with grandfathered data I keep meaning to sell.
Like OP has listed it works. I does sit off center due to the USB 2.0 of the 3.0 portion not in the middle. Video runs fine with a slight delay over HDMI. One of the big things I wanted to do was emulated games. I have Animaonline SNES, SNESDroid, and Snes9x EX+ installed. While using a wired PS3 controller there is an obvious input lag on all three emulators. Snes9x EX+ went half speed and was unplayable. The other two ran, but still had an input lag. I was barely able to make it past the first course in F-Zero bouncing around like a noob and Mario World was a joke. Playing these with just an OTG cable works great and I've already beaten a couple of my old favorites; playing through Secret of Mana right now.
I can't imagine trying to use this with a keyboard and mouse and using a RDP client for some remote administration. I wonder if the Note 2 and S4 exhibit the same lag; I'll try and test if I get a chance. Frankly I'm a bit disappointed and think that MHL (for video) and OTG need to be separate on the Note 3 until lag is sorted out. It would be a real shame if the lag is there on the Note 2 and S4, which means no one knows about it or they don't care to fix it. I do look forward to the day when the phone is also the full on computer that just needs a dock or be near ones desk. I'll see if VZW will take it back after my vacation.

Buy it from the Samsung store, that's pretty much the only way right now to ensure you get the genuine article. It's $39.99 in the US but while placing the order I registered my phone with them, then used the 50% off coupon they mailed me for registering to get it for $19.99 plus shipping.
Sure beats playing Russian roulette on Amazon.

First of all, lemme say that I got mine last night and I love it!!!
I was just sitting here pondering what I would use my 50% off coupon for and after seeing your post, I think I'll do the same.
As a bit of an unrelated sidenote, I was just looking at the YouTube channel of a "reputable" reviewer who puts out weekly ratings of the top 5 phones as voted by consumers and then another list as voted by "experts".
As of this week, the iPhone 5s is atop the experts list and in 2nd place on the consumer list.
In what alternative world are the minuscule changes made to the 5, anywhere near substantial enough to rate it above the Note 3???
It boggles my mind how blindly devoted the Apple Nation truly are...
They're exactly like the guys in the band playing on the deck of the Titanic...the friggin' ship is damn near vertical, but the band plays on.
Go figure...
Rant completed...I now return you to your previously scheduled programming.

Ok but what about a regular MHL adapter would we need the 5 to 11 pin adapter I was looking at the http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00EAM863M/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1381591510&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70.

Finally my laptop smartphone docking station is finished! A lot of planning and work stuck in it! I have used an old Acer 17,3 "laptop for it. I removed the mainboard and all electronics from it and installed a good full HD panel. The panel is connected with an HDMI to EDP converter board with the smartphone. I installed some voltage transformers, a 2x3 Watt audio amplifier for the laptop speakers, a charging board, a 5v fan and an USB Hub. The smartphone is connected via USB C (mhl) cable and for sound there is an audio cable. Unfortunately, I couldn't get to run the original keyboard and the touchpad. That's why I installed an ultra flat Bluetooth keyboard with TouchPad.
A battery is not installed yet. This is the next thing I want to do.
So... I don't need a real computer any more!

Hey! That is totally awesome!!
Congrats for it!
Do you have a plan to put the phone as a TouchPad, replacing the original TouchPad? Since it seems like razer's project Linda is awesome, and also eliminates the "bump" on the back..

Yes, I've thought about that, but that would mean more work, I'm satisfied now!

Nice one man... it is very awesome.. i am sure you can still modify this and make more reliable by taking the mobile at front.. there are some other laptops like this from there you can get some design inspiration...
nice, got me thinking how about the motorola atrix dock? back in the days? that could boot linux and ****. will that dock work with the s8 (damn that moto atrix laptop dock thing was my child hood dream
So I build in a 4s 2650mah lipo battery in it. It seems to work fine. The DC DC converters that I build in , can handle the 4s (14,8V) battery very well! Even phone charging is working?? I will upload a small video in the next few weeks.

I have an Atrix lapdock, it will load dex, but the screen resolution wont handle the output from the phone, it overloads it. At least thats what mine is doing. So instead I use it for my Raspberry pi for now.
How to "Gaming Dock" AKA:"Lapdock" (like motorola)
is 1 LCD inverter + USB(or ps2 to usb) pins into IO.
-> Screen = li-ion power cell to DC lcd inverter.
use any laptop shell. lcd will be DVI over HDMI
Exactly What I was looking for
I have been looking for something like this for business trips. I used DEX at home for my S8 Note, but laptop for travel would be perfect. I have an older Toshiba laptop I was going to donate, but this will be my new project. Appreciate you sharing your project.
