has anyone rooted Xperia Pro (MK16i) with firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62?
sorry i am asking as i haven't done it before and i don't want to make anything wrong ..

MK16 roots perfectly with zergRush, no side effects.
//

Use the Easy Rooting Toolkit from Doomlord. There's a thread for it in the Neo Devel (and I think the Arc Devel) forum. Works beautifully on the MK16. For both versions of the official SE firmware. And without unlocking the bootloader.
I know, because I've rooted my MK16a on both firmwares using it.

Temporary re-opened. Please do not open other new threads about Xperia Pro while I find some more information. But you can keep discussion on this. Thanks.
...The Xperia Pro is a Neo with a keyboard, and most internals are common and tips will apply to both.
Even Sony Ericsson themselves handle the Neo and Pro the same in their official support forum:

[Q] Xperia Pro root
Hi Folks,
i guess my Xperia Pro (= Xperia Neo + keyboard, Android 2.3.4) is dying on me, it doesn't start anymore. I am actually not quite sure if this thread should really be here, as this may well be a general problem with SONY Xperia's, mods feel free to move it if so.
Here is what is happening:
Before, when i shut down the phone and connected it to the charger, a kind of BIOS screen flashed up shortly after that, showing 'SONY Ericsson' and then some simple graphics displaying the loading status of the battery.
Now, if i shut down the phone normally, these BIOS screens are not there anymore, and subsequently the phone can also not be started. Here is what i have to do get it working again:
- pull the battery
- wait for 5 - 10 mins
- connect the phone to the charger with NO battery inserted
- wait for the 'SONY Ericsson' screen, then insert the battery quickly
The phone will then startup normally. The following potential problems were checked:
- battery is fully loaded
- SD card removed, to no avail
- SIM card removed, to no avail
Phone is rooted, and has a 1 GB EXT3 partition on the SD card as ROM extension (SD Link).
Strange enough, the phone is also sometimes not correctly recognized on my laptop. If that happens, also SONY's support program for Windows, called 'PC Companion 2.0', is unable to connect to the phone when on USB.
What could that be ? Is my battery dying on me ? That's highly unlikely, because the phone is only 3 months old and i can run the phone for 3 days without recharging, if necessary (Thanks to root, removing facebook and the like, and the app 'SetXperia').
On the other side, the missing recognition from my Laptop would most likely indicate a problem with that BIOS being loaded from the ROM, no ? Do ANDROID phones even have something like a BIOS ? If so, is it made by the phone manufacturers ?
Thank you for helping me out, as i have rooted the phone i can not easily send it to service.
Regards
Christian
ADDENDUM / 0% battery problem related :
It may so happen that my problem is somehow related to the fuel gauge problem reported in this thread here, but i never experience a 0% loading state ? My batter never goes lower than 30% typically, and the restart problem will also happen if the battery status was showing 98% when i am shutting it down. However, it seems that the guys suffering from this do have a similar problem, i.e. the KERNEL not booting when they try to switch on the phone ?
Is it possible that some hardware part in the phone checks the status of the battery, detects it as too low and refuses to start-up, even though the battery is actually full ? But then, why doesn't it start with battery inserted when i connect it to the charger ? I first have to pull the battery, then it will start ?
ADDENDUM 2 / Power Saving App SetXperia messing with CPU clock:
As mentioned above, i am using the app 'SetXperia' to save battery. In 'default' mode it will constantly vary the CPU clock according to real need, in order to save on battery. Can this app confuse the fuel gauge, and my battery show it is fully loaded, while in reality it is almost down ?

Sounds to me like you removed an app that you shouldn't have. This happened to me the first time I rooted my Xperia Pro. Ended up in an endless boot loop.
The fix? Factory reset of the phone via PC Companion. There's information on exactly how to do it in PC Companion.
After it's reset, you can re-root it. Then be more careful about what you remove.

Hi, thanks for the input, but i am pretty sure this is not the case. Here is what i removed, using Titanium Backup:
SONY Sales Demo
Facebook 1.7.1
Facebook Setup 2.0.A.0.2
Facebook Calendar Sync
Facebook Extension 2.0.13
Facebook Notification Publisher 1.0
Facebook Post Viewer 1.0.A.0.3
Fun & Downloads 2.2.3
Moxier Pro 2.4.0
Music Unlimited 1.0.2
SEMC Facebook Proxy 1.0.A.0.7
Games and Applications 1.0.A.0.6
Street View 1.7.0.4
Twitter Extension 2.0.9
UEFA.com 1.0.0
Video Unlimited 1.2.0
Xperia HotShots 0.1.1
Anyhow, i have made a backup of all of them in Titanium before de-installation, so i could restore them if you really think that any of them could have an influence on whether the KERNEL (BIOS) will start after being shut down ?

Hi, here an update on the situation:
It seems as if the problem in fact IS somehow related to the defect fuel gauge, because i could make the following observations:
- sometimes the battery capacity in Android is displayed to be better than 60%, but if i shut the phone down and connect it to the charger, the battery is shown to be almost empty. This is a clear hint that on the Android level there is wrong information on the actual remaining capacity of the battery, most probably a result from the defect fuel gauge ?
- the problems are getting worse if i do recharge with Android running, especially when being connected to the USB port, and they are getting less if i recharge the unit using the charger, and shut off.
However, it is still confusing why the phone can not be restarted even if the battery is more than 50% full. In this case it will sometimes work to start the phone if i simply connect it to the charger (not USB on the Laptop, that hasn't worked for me so far) and wait for a few seconds, but in most cases i do have the use the trick described above, i.e. pulling the battery, connect the charger and insert the battery then.
I would really appreciate any comment from your side on how to solve that problem. Being a professional sales manager in the machine business myself, i am touring literally the whole world, and i need a working smartphone ! If this problem persists, i will have to switch back to Blackberry (which never let me down).
I could possible accept a shorter life time of the battery in some cases, but it s....cks badly if i can't even switch it on !?!
Will using an extra strong MUGEN battery pack help here ? They offer one for the Xperia Pro, i guess with almost 2,5 times higher capacity (3400 mAh) ?

Update:
Meanwhile i have sent the phone back for repair, more precisely to AMAZON's service partner for mobile phones in Germany, w-support.com GmbH.
I had told them to make a backup of all my data before repairing (costs 21,- €), but now they have sent me an email saying they can't do it, and were asking if they should continue with the repair nevertheless ?
If these guys can't even access the phone for a simple backup, i expect something must be seriously wrong, mot likely the hardware is defect ?
Will report here when i get it back, just so you know what the problem was.
Best Regards
ChristianHJW

[Q] Random Reboots?

Have you guys ever experienced your x10 randomly restarting itself? Sometimes when I'm talking on the phone or just have my phone lying on my bed, it just restarts itself. I doesn't bother me too much since it isn't that frequent, but it pisses me off when it does restarts while I am on the phone...
Does anyone know why it does this and how it can be prevented?
Hi shukla,
I've got exactly the same problem! Which firmware is on your phone? I've got the 026 on my X10i. I think it's the firmware or the new root method?!
If I'll find some time this week I would like to try some things out...Some other experienced that problems, too?
Regards,
Martin
I've had random reboots as well running 26 firmware (using the 3 step root method) thankfully never during a call last time was while in Toronto this past Saturday taking pictures with Vignette.
I'm on 024 (rooted).
I think I was wrong with my thoughts. Today I've read a lot about our problem with rebooting. Seems it is the Sony backup application. It is randomly accessing the SIM card and thats the reason why our phones crashes. Right now I am going to flash my phone again. I'll tell you some more details after flashing is done.
Ok, well it's not easy to fix that problem. Yesterday I flashed my X10 about 6 times. With original SEUS firmware and the problem still appears. Then I flashed with 026 debranded firmware. After that I rooted my phone with the doshaska.net method. After that I removed the restore/backup app from /system/app. The problem still appears till now - but not so often. In fact, I had reboots every minute, so my phone didn't came up. I really don't have a clue why it happen. Someone else got an idea?
Regards ,
Martin
The only way I could stop mine from rebooting was to remove SetCPU. Are you using it? If so, feeze it or remove it and see how it goes. I do have another problem now with the damn screen not sleeping unless i push the power button! Oh well, the joy of fiddling
Nothing out of the usual battery dain yet. I am running the branded Dutch t- mobile firmware. I'm going to root it soon.

some things on memory card could cause reboot during calls or randomly, next time try formatting your memory card
hope it help someone
cheers!
luv my x10 though i ve also got iphone but i ve never looked back
Just curious, how hot is everyone's phone when it reboots? I've noticed my x10 doing the same when its running a little warm. It usually starts acting up when it's over 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

Gitin thx..it looks much better now, however yeasterday I was carrying my x10(still with no memory card in it) in the pocket, it got pretty hot (most probably over 38 degrees) and it turned into this rebooting "mode"..finally I left battery for 20 minutes in cold place..x10 got back to normal..I think that random reboots are the matter of memory card issue (You have solved this problem) or/and overheating of battery - still couldnt find any clue how to ease this pain but read somewhere that Froyo for x10 will have this problem taken care of..
i think ( depends on my experiences) the telephone need to reboot coz one applications from SD card want to launch (send or receive) some commands from or to internal (built in memory).
that's means this applications needs to move temporary to internal memory just to execute this command so absolutely android system will restart to create virtual memory to this application to let it runs correctly
first it's better to remove backup/restore programs or make its runs manually, if you have another software need to save data to SD memory ,remove it.
it's better to launch applications directly from internal memory to win the time and performance but At the expense of the memory size
ps: all that explanations depend on the framework version.
sorry for complex explain but i don't have easy way to explain this problems
i suddenly have it now to, first every hour, now every 5 minutes, my phone won't start up anymore
sorry..bad news..its pretty cold here in Poland so battery shouldnt turn to hot that easily but apparently the problem is more serious..I have to admit that random reboots occur less frequently than before but that **** still hapens to my x10..after no more than 2 days I had gotten memory card removed it got back to malfunctioning again..
it really pisses me off that I cant enjoy this phone anymore..
android 2.1 or higher is my only hope..
if anybody solved that issue entirely..please, dont be shy, do not hesitate..help us, please!

i too am hanging on for the 2.1 update to hope it solves the problem. I've a feeling there's going to be a lot of x10s going into SE for a service though when it is released and doesn't solve the problem!
I'm not 100% but is this problem the entire phone powering down, or just the connection to your network, mine just loses its network connection and then connects again, over and over ........
there's nothing 2.1 update will do
as our phone was working fine when v bought it, its completely a hardware fault
ok do this...
1.take out sim
2.format ur memory card
3.repair through SEUS or root process watever..
4.turn on ur x10 without sim and leaving formatted card inside
it will still give u hard time u can try putting some video on ur memory card and try to play it few times, ur x10 will turn off and wont turn on until u take out battery for few seconds or take ur x10 in front of Air-Conditioner
as someone suggested in rooting thread to keep ur x10 in front of air-conditioner if u get errors while rooting or if rooting process stucks in middle
the same thing applies in our case...try using ur phone in front of A-Con it wont turn off
i tried with a new battery ...still the same
as i ve been repairing mobile phone from last 5 years, i opened my x10, took out the motherboard, took out all plates over IC's, cpu and cleaned it with acetone properly and heated cpu and whole board with Hot Air Gun...everybody who repairs mobile phones knows what i am talking about
still its the same....
still i am not saying i know everything, anybody knows what the problem is and suggest the overcome is most welcome
nxt few months gonna b really cold at my place...i definitely think i'll notice a difference as its really hot these days which is causing my x10 to die
I did experience this when I debranded my AT&T X10. I have since gone back to the AT&T ROM and have not had this issue since. My battery life has also improved. I did root and remove all the AT&T bloatware. I also edited settings.db to allow for installing non-market apps. This phone is very fast and smooth now with almost no glitches at all.
mine won't even work anymore..once per every 20 or 30 times and than it turns off itself very quick..I can't recharge battery, nothing..really hope that 2.1 will help somehow..I am thinking of getting back to very first soft that x10 was launched with..seriously I am sickin tired with that ****..

Hi, I have an AT&T X10 and wonder what you debranded your phone to? I debranded mine about a week after I got it to R2BA026 Latin America and never had any issue with rebooting.
Aside from needing to power off the phone to check for software updates (two weeks ago of course ) my phone has been up for +358 hours without an issue, and that's with installing the AmbientTime home screen several days ago.

[Q] big problem in the Sony Ericsson X 10

I have a phone x10 and when brought him cargo is heated in a strange way and continues to work to restart and repeat the process until you remove the battery from it and allow it to cool down and when you update it to 2.3 increased this problem and also occurs when I open any application on the device is heated and continues to work to restart even remove the battery and leave it cool I do not know what the solution and knowing I was in Egypt I do not trust any of the maintenance engineers here, what is the solution
Looks like battery problem.
Try another battery,if problem still persists then its a hardware problem.

I just don't understand what do you mean :confuse: "continue to work to restart" it mean boot up and restart immediately? If you repaired you phone and it can't help, you should bring it to SE Service cause it maybe hardware errors. Even if the phone boot up and restart, just repair and it will be OK cause it's sofeware error. Your situation should be hardware...
Sounds like a Battery Problem. Although, with my Motorola Droid X i also have a battery that heats up a lot.
But just to make sure, see if you can find another battery (maybe from another x10) or something, then test to see if the battery does that same. If with another battery, the phone still heats up, then its a hardware problem.
If the phone doesn't heat up with another battery, then the original battery is the problem.
i'm from Egypt too... got my phone stuck at SE Logo but SE service (Delta office in mansoura) gave me a new stock 2.1 ROM...they can calibrate ur battery but i can't affirm they will fix the hardware issue... any way if u have a warranty they will replace ur X10i with a new one.
NOTE:1.they will check ur phone first for 20 L.E (IF U DON'T HAVE WARRANTY)
2.if u have warranty and they told u that they can't replace ur phone cause they don't have any (saw that with my eyes) or any reason just e-mail SE telling them all about that with the name of SE service company and so on(some one said it worked for him and they replaced his phone).
3.if the problem is only a software please refer to the forum (u don't want to be charged 100 L.E if u don't have warranty).

1.st link.
It's overheating.
I had random reboots earlier in the year, so i took my phone to my local 3 shop and (although it was rooted) they took it in for repair. A week later, i went to pick it up and to my suprise they gave me a brand new phone, saying the hardware had malfunctioned and so it was un-repairable. I wasnt expecting that as i knew i had voided my warrenty, but from my experience it could be hardware related
Hope that kinda helps?
Yeah. Rooting does not void your warranty. unlocking BL does. Any idea on what hardware issue it is? Do u have the same problems with the new phone as well?
Does changing the battery help??
I had the same problem and would get voltage drops or inconsistent voltage when the battery wasn't near-full yet I could slowly drain the device but under load would shut down....
I tried a gazillion things to fix it including a number of different kernels...
just changing the battery fixed EVERYTHING!
And batteries were pretty cheap.

Random Reboots?
The phone has always occasionally rebooted itself from time to time since I bought it . I think whenever resource contention becomes too critical it reboots itself like "have you tried turning it off and on again" in the TV Series "The IT Crowd"
The phone rebooting itself from time to time only really impacts you if it does it while you are in the middle of something. That never happens to me. Usually the reboots are when the phone is short on free memory but in sleep mode for me.
In the past week, my phone has rebooted once or maybe even twice but that's about it.

M4 Aqua - Blue screen / boot loop?

Hey all,
My gf has an M4 Aqua.
She has never done anything with it.
No root, no custom roms etc.
Suddenly today phone shut down, Sony logo appeared, blue booting waves and then just pure blue screen.
She did the Software Recovery via Xperia Companion.
It booted normally, she set up everything (although she said it was running very slowly) and while she was just in the home screen it shut down again and did the same thing.
She clicked the red reset button and it booted fine.
Edit: Shut down and blue screen again.
Edit2: After Software Recovery she is on 6.0.1 now.
Edit3: Even when idle it gives the blue screen after some time.
Any ideas why that is happening, how to fix it permanently?
I've seen posts but people said the Software Recovery helped them which is sadly not working for us.
We just need to wait till next month so she can give this one for proper service check.
Is this a hardware issue? I've never encountered a pure blue screen on Sony before.
Cheers, thanks for any help.
Hello friend, i have an xperia m4 aqua dual, same problem than yours, already used xperia conpanion 3 times trying to solve the problem, the cellphone works like a charm for 10min and the problem gets back again, blue screen if i launch some app like facebook and running slooooow, i have read that this is a hardware failure, but don't know what is the ic failure.
Edit: Now i found the problem, the xperia has 2 module of 1gb of ram on the motherboard, when the phone boots (congrats no blue screen) you can go and see how much RAM it haves, it will just show 883mb of total RAM. so... 1 module of RAM is dead.
Edit²: Saw on the xperia forum that sony is pushing an new update on xperia companion, solved the problem of ram and blue screen for some people, i will give i try later today, can be just a software problem.

Hey mate, thanks for the reply!
Will check RAM and try the Xperia Companion again. Gonna update soonish with the results.
It happens alike, ram, blue screen, and in my case at first had problems with the network signal (it was for a while), and the camera (worked sometimes in or out an error log . So YouTube I found this:
Apparently there is a problem with this smartphone after a period of use, and seeking information on the internet apparently called blue screen of death, and happened to the iPhone 5 and even g3 lg, but in this smartphone presents with different symptoms. Unfortunately in my case it is out of warranty two months ago
By the way the new version of PC Companion commenting here will not let me install it, I get a kernel32.dll error in Windows, but the previous version if you install without problems, someone knows what is due?

Thanks for the vid. Good to know it's kind of popular. My gf gives it to service today so we won't check ram etc. But ye this is a bit of a ****ty phone.
These memory problems, speaker broke now this.
I hope they gonna give her a new one.
Also check a statutory warranty (i think that's how it's called) in your country.
Here in Poland apart from the producers warranty we have a warranty from the seller. (its a law)
If seller sells us a product that breaks (no matter if it's producer fault) they need to repair it or exchange for a working one.
This warranty is valid for 2 years.
i updated my xperia m4 , the problem got worse, can't pass the blue screen now, just a constant boot loop of blue screen, i never want a xperia again --'

Hey all,
My gf has an M4 Aqua.

We did it with Xperia Companion which is the same **** as far as I know.
The phone is sent to service, she'll probably get a new one.
Thanks for the tip though!
Had the same blue screen after installing a incompatible xposed module. But i had not that ram problem. It sometimes booted and sometimes reboot at bluescreen. Re-flashed firmware using newest Flashtool (include "wipe Sin, wipe Misc TA") blue screen was gone.

[SOLVED][Xperia M4 E2333] - Startup Logo bootloop or Android continous rebooting

Hi all,
after 3 days of searching, maybe I've found something sounds good, but I'll stay in test mode for a while and I'll keep you in touch in case it is really stable.
What's happend :
3 days ago I did a simple ''factory reset'' and since then I experience a continous reboots after a minute or two alive in Android official 6.0.1 and a bootloops when processor cames really hot.
At this time on internet you can find lots of people with the same issue and all of us without any solutions at all.
Now here the list of my tries :
- Did again a ''factory reset'' with Sony companion and Sony flashtool Emma : no changes
- Call Sony for support? Warranty still okay? : do not waste your time, Sony wants your money and thats it ! (take a try anyway, you will see by yourself)
- So let's root the phone! Even if you do not know what to do, you can find looots of Tutorials and lots of very geek competent guys to help you (better than Sony support anyway), thanks XDA Developers !!!
- Even if I've completely erased all partitions with TRWP, when flashing and back again in stock Android with xperifirm : still no changes !!!
Now, during those tries I've noticed that the temperature of processor is dangerously high, and that for every startup process.
You know, at the end I think that the bootloop (I guess in that case only) it is made by temperature mainboard automatic protection.
Anyway, before to play freesbee with and go to buy a new one, I've tried to :
- open the back side (very simple but all operations should made very carefully)
- unplugged the battery for 15 minutes
- take off processor's metal protection to avoid heat retention
- plugged the battery again
- close the back side and started Android
Since then the phone is still alive !!! Just working as it should...
I'm trying all I can do to stress it to see if any problems happend again, installing back all apps, using Root features to uninstall useless Google or Sony apps, restet the phone several times.
The processor still heat up every time you do something or restart, but I do not experiencing sudden rebooting or bootloops again at the moment.
As far as I'm concerned, I would say as well that it is a processor issue, but I'm not a scientist, so I guess this apply to different Xperia models and not only to M4 Aqua Dual.
DO NOT FORGET that this is not a real solution. I just did the only thing that you cannot normally do with that kind of phone : unplug the battery.
I hope I can give some good ideas to all of you, or maybe a good way to a solution .
Happy to share,
Flaximuss
More information please
Well, now I'm sure it is hw problem.
A guy solved this doing some trick:
www(dot)youtube.com/watch?v=mgCSPAmJld4&feature=youtu.be
and it works pretty nice, for a while.
I'm more interested in your solution, how far it didn't bootloop, etc.
Could you tell me how is your phone doing?
I betrayed my Sony Is there any way to bring it back???

So, I will explain what has happened.
I received a Warning Statin "Unfortunately, Hike as stopped" followed by "Unfortunately Google has stopped" "Unfortunately home has stopped"...
So I shut my phone off, which I used to do every time and restarted it.
My what happened next is something I haven't experienced before.
My Xperia, just displayed "SONY" logo and nothing else. I know to flash and I have done that many times before. So I was lethargic that I could easily bring my sony back to the world. but that didn't happen anyway :crying: :crying:
I read so many threads in XDA but none of them could have faced what I'm facing. Coz my Sony Xperia Aqua M4 will not vibrate so I couldn't able to differentiate Hard and Soft boot.
After waiting for a restless 24hours I tried to open my Sony Xperia Aqua M4 that's when the real problem started...
I found a video that if we remove the battery and reinsert it then everything will be fine.
so, I removed the back cover.
Flip opened that Copper Layer (I really don't know its purpose though) and unplugged 3 battery plugs. That when the things began to get out of my hand.
After reinserting the plug I started my mobile once again only to see the Sony Logo and not the blue waves. So I tried to restart the mobile by pressing the Rest button near the SD Card Slot only then I came to know it stopped working.
So once again I unplugged the battery and this time I had that copper layer trimmed and replugged the battery.
And this time no Sony Logo too :crying: but I could feel the temperature of metal on the board rising to its peak. I don't know what to do...
Is there a way to make my Sony work again?
Pieces of Advice Please.......
Temporal solution
If you don't want to disarm your phone I got one solution:
1) Press the screen with your thumb and the back panel with index finge, near the nfc logo
2) At the time of starting it helps sometimes.
It is an hardware problem.
The solution worked but...

Hi, the phone has started up, however, is there any way to make the solution last?
Please it would be really nice that there is a chance to recover the phone.

Of course there is a way to save your phone, but nowadays the process cost more than buying another M4 AQUA used. You can do "reballing" or a little "reflow" in any refurbishing store if you want but I recommend changing that phone. It is not so good to use mate.
