Issues with dock - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I have this issue where when you pop the tablet into the dock either:
a) It will not recognise that it is plugged into the dock; OR
b) It will recognise the dock but the keyboard and/or trackpad will not work
It takes several tries of ejecting the tablet and re-inserting it before both work.
Anyone else have this problem?

Have you checked that the contacts on either the dock or the tablet aren't dirty.

I only just got my dock less than an hour ago, so I haven't really tested it extensively. So far, it's been pretty good. The only problem I have is with locking and unlocking capabilities.
The dock has a lock button on the top right, and it works perfectly. However, it won't unlock the tablet.
The workaround to this is to go to settings and uncheck MobileDock Battery Savings Mode under ASUS Customized Settings. This allows the dock to wake up the tablet by pressing any key, which I guess might come at the cost of battery life.
So I suppose I'm looking for a way to lock and unlock the tablet with just that lock key on the tablet, while keeping the Battery Savings mode on. Why put it there if we can't even unlock the tablet without costing battery life?

I'm having the same problem as well. My keyboard doesn't register has connected sometimes and sometimes the battery says zero. all the keys don't work except the top row. the mouse doesn't work. everything is crap so far. they better fix this...

I had the same problem with mine at first. I tried it out with three keyboard docks, all the software updated, tried rooting it/unrooting, factory wiped it, the whole nine yards.
Then I bought another Prime because I finally found a Champagne Gold one and was ready to sell my Grey tablet, and the new one worked perfectly fine with all of the docks.
It's an issue with the tablet. My guess is some flaw with the connectivity of it. Your best bet is to send your tablet it in for repairs from Asus, I'm sending mine out Monday and once it's fixed I'll be posting it on EBay.

I am having the same problem with the dock. Like you, i had tried wipe data, manual update through sdcard, factory reset and nothing works.
I was hoping the .13 firmware will solve this problem but i am still waiting for the WW release. Anyone whom updated to the .13 US release can confirm if the dock issue still exists?
I believe that its a firmware issue because "sometimes" by checking and unchecking the Mobiledock battery saving mode, i am able to "wake up" the keyboard. But it will stop working a few minutes later.

As mentioned above, I have found out today that it is the tablet's problem. I've gone in to memoryexpress by where I live and those guys know their stuff. They've seen it before and they said it's something that can't be repaired. So everything with the keyboard problem needs to send it in for repair (receive a new one), or refund/exchange.
I tried my tablet with 3 brand new docks, all with the same problem. I'm glad I had the ipr on my tablet and it covers broken tablets.

I wonder how many people tried connecting their docks without removing the little plastic guards on the bottom of the tablet?

I don't think people are THAT stupid. The dock doesn't go in without taking it off. But I don't doubt your point there... we do have idiots amongst us

It OFF? there are 3 one on the connector itself and 2 more for the tabs on the end that line it up

I don't understand what you mean by 3 on on the connecter :S All I know is that there's covers for all of them and I took them out.

Defective LapDock?

I got the lapdock over the weekend (price-matched) and love it .... when it works. After experimenting with it for a day, it seems like the dock is defective. I was hoping it was just a software issue (clearing the cache seemed to solve it for a little while, but now I think that was just a coincidence), but that's not seeming likely :-(
Anywhere from a few seconds to an hour after entering webtop mode, the keyboard and trackpad suddenly stop working. Closing/re-opening the webdock will sometimes restore it. In all cases, I've confirmed that the webtop/phone itself is still fully functional using a USB keyboard plugged into the Webtop.
Has anyone else seen similar issues? I'll have to call a few stores in the morning t see if any still have the docks in stock to exchange it. If not, does anybody have any experiences with warranty claims on the dock from ATT or even Motorola directly (I assume there's at least a 30-day warranty...)?
what rom are u running on? could be a software issue
There is a 30 day warranty on the device. I just got mine and it's pretty awesome, had no issues, using it as a standard dock right now with the lid closed.
I'm running stock (but rooted) OTA ATT 2.2.2.
I started looking into updating to 2.3.x the other day to see if that would help, but I'm still trying to sort out the proper upgrade process.
The part that makes me think its h/w and not s/w is that the USB keyboard plugged into the dock keeps working, so it. The fact that it works for variable amounts of time, and that resetting restores it for a few seconds to a number of minutes when fully power cycled makes me wonder though.
At first, it seemed like "Delayed Lock" might have been causing issues, but stopping that app didn't have any affect, besides which altering the settings to not lock while connected to wifi or power also stopped any potential problems with that.
The store I purchased it from has one more left in stock. It'll be wasting ~45min. round trip to get there, but I'll head over there tonight and to exchange it and hope for the best...
I was able to exchange the dock without difficulty (for the last one they had in stock).
After experimenting with it for a few days, I can confirm that the first dock was indeed defective. The replacement is working without issue ... though the right-arrow key does sometimes think it's a touch-sensitive pad instead of a key, but I'm not complaining. Now on the other hand if I had actually paid MSRP for the dock, I would have been a bit miffed at the quality of the keyboard...
They come with a 1 year warranty from what I was told when I bought mine yesterday. I assume only a 30-day instore exchange.

[Q] Letters on Keyboard Dock not working, have tried 3 different docks...

So I ended up getting two keyboard docks in the mail, tried a friends dock, and none worked properly with my Prime. I'm starting to think there may be an issue with the tablet itself, or I'm doing something wrong setting it up.
The top three issues...
-None of the letter keys have ever worked.
-The top row buttons work here and there
-The mouse worked for a few seconds on one of them, then went away.
-LONG delays for the dock to be registered once I connect the two. It can take as long as 10 minutes for it to detect.
Here's a few things I've done so far...
-Dock and Tablet fully charged
-Factory Data Wiped already
-Undocked/Docked multiple times for a connection.
-Restarted it with it docked, also undocked and then put it in
-Android Version updated to 4.0.3
-Build Number - 9.4.2.11-20120117
I'm also prompted with the message "change to asus keyboard to keep consistency with hardware keyboard". So I went into the settings, keyboard and input, and changed it from thumb keyboard to the asus keyboard, but I still don't get anything.
Any ideas?
Yep, that is a known issue and already a couple of topics on here.
Even on this page is one.
No solution so far.
I guess (and me, too) have to send it in for repair

Faulty keyboard dock - UK
My prime arrived this morning and the dock hasn't worked since the moment I turned it on.
I have also tried everything MinustheOh mentioned, other than trying different docks as I dont have any others at my disposal.
I purchased mine from eBuyer.com in the UK. I have spoke to them and they said I can change it or get a full refund. I mentioned I didn't really want to return the Prime as the tablet itself appears fine, so they put me onto to Asus to see if I replace just the keyboard.
Asus said it was possible but said it could take up to 3 weeks. Seeing as the UK version comes as '32GB Tablet + Dock', I didn't really want to change the keyboard and get a new one with different serial numbers incase any other problems occur in the future.
I phoned eBuyer again and got a full refund, they pay for a courier to collect it tommorrow. I then plan to get one from PC world on Wednesday when they are back in stock. Should I then get another faulty keyboard, I can walk in and change it the same day.
Overall - Gutted. Absolutely gutted.
Update - 5 hours later and that keyboard dock has randomly started working. How do I explain that to the tech support? Still gonna send it back, for £500 I want a device to work from the word go!

Strange keyboard behavior

I finally got around to buying a dock/keyboard and got mine today but I'm seeing some really strange things when using it.
I'm wondering if anybody has a clue what is happening to me.
Sometimes I connect the dock and they keyboard/mouse works perfectly. Other times, only the keyboard works. Sometimes, the mouse begins working after some time (like 30s); sometimes it doesn't work at all. Sometimes I connect the dock and neither the keyboard nor the mouse works.
I thought it may be a short in the connector, but I've seen things that suggest this is not the case. For example, I can press the lock key on the keyboard to lock the tablet, and then when I unlock the keyboard no longer works and its battery shows as empty. Other times, I can lock/unlock it with no problem at all.
I've tried wiggling the dock and stressing it in all directions to see if I can cause it to malfunction but once it works, it works forever until I either remove the dock or lock the tablet.
I normally use SwiftKey Tablet but switched to the asus keyboard hoping it would help, of course it didn't.
So are there any thoughts? wtf is going on with my brand new keyboard?
Also, fwiw, I know there is a mouse on/off key. That is not my problem.
Update: I cleared data on ASUS keyboard and it seems to have solved the problem. Not 100% sure yet but I haven't had any issues since.
I have the same issues. A reboot solves the problem. Factory reset solves the problem. Connecting the dock like 10 times solves the problem.
BUT.....
after a night of standby, the problems re-appear.
I've sent in my prime for RMA for this issues 2 times. 1st time they didn't do anything. Only re-connect some cable that apparently come loose on its own (****ty build quality)
I hope they fix is this time...
Unfortunately, clearing data on asus keyboard was an illusory solution. The problem came back.
I also noticed another issue. Sometimes when the keyboard seems to be functioning properly, it isn't actually charging the tablet. Talk about a weird issue. I noticed that when I'm having issues though, I can force kill the asus keyboard and redock and it works again until the tablet sleeps.
I did a factory reset on the thing, hoping it would help. Of course it didn't. To throw salt in the wounds, I didn't realize my app backup transfer failed so I lost everything. fml.
So anyway, the damn thing works probably 1/15 tries. It's so bad I packed the thing back up in the box and am considering returning it. The keyboards are so hard to find though I am not sure if I can get another.
Please let me know when you get it back from RMA. If they fix it for you I will send mine in.

umm...but the keyboard?
Also, my son dropped my prime and cracked the screen so I have to send it in for repair. I'm wondering if I should tell them about the keyboard issue while I'm at it.
You had the mobo on the tab replaced, right? Not the PCB in the keyboard?

Keyboard is working fine now.
The RMA only sais that they replaced the motherboard, not the keyboard pcb.
Wifi is working again, had to reset the router (even though all other devices were working fine).
Noticed a new LCD mura though.. so I'm sending it back again and claim my money back.

Dock problem (ASUS PRIME)

My dock only connects sometimes, usually after it's been disconnected for a while and i unlock it.
But at times i try to unlock it and it simply won't work at all.
The prime itself has no problem with connectivity it seems, it connects to chargers and to USB for file transfers no problem, it's just the dock it has a problem with.
Also sometimes it'll say it's connected but only the keys will work, not the trackpad or buttons on it.
I have tried 3 docks, one for the tf201 and two for the tf300, all have the same symptom and none offer anything more than a sporadic connection.
Having it charged makes no difference at all.
My prime has been sent back to asus twice now already.
Has anyone had a similar issue?
Running Androwook v2.0, Android 4.2.
I've already asked in the thread and no one has said that they're having anything similar, this problem also was persistent on other versions of android and even on the stock rom.
Any help is appreciated.
I'm having a similar problem. The keyboard randomly stops typing. All I have to do is detach the tablet, and put it back to fix it, but that's very annoying. It happens a lot.
I'm completely stock, and have done a factory reset, but it didn't help.

Yea i'm having the same issue kind of, for me if it's on and i disconnect it and reconnect it it will continue to work, if i leave it off for a bit then it might decide not to work, I've already RMA'd mine twice and i simply can't be bothered doing it again.
My mate has asked me to swap it for his Sony tab, not the xperia Z one the one before it, i might actually do it cos this is just getting to be a joke.
EDIT: Just had a look at the Sony tablet S section and it's like a ghost town, i think i'll be keeping my Prime until i can at least afford to buy another one, i'm getting the HTC One next over the s4, Sammy has burnt it's own bridges by not letting the UK have the octa core version.
As far as the prime is concerned, if i send it off again, I have no idea what condition it'll come back in, plus i'm doubting that it will have ICS on it like it did when i got it back this time.

[Q] Disable touch screen completely

Hello folks,
I'm guessing at whether or not this is the right forum for this, please feel free to move it if I am wrong.
I have an Asus Transformer Infinity with keyboard dock that is out of warranty and has started "ghost touching" (a common problem with the digitizer). It renders the tablet pretty much unusable due to the constant touches on screen. I'm wanting to completely disable the touch screen and use this as a netbook now. I can get away with that since I have the keyboard dock. I'm up for any solution, including physically disabling the digitizer (if anyone can tell me conclusively which of the cables inside to disconnect).
I've done some searching and come up with build.prop modifications. The ones I have tried thus far have been ro.product.has.touch.screen=false, and ro.product.max_num_touch=0. (telling the tablet there is no touch screen, and that 0 concurrent multitouches are allowed, respectively).
In both cases, I restarted with no discernible effect.
Is there another build.prop variable I could try setting? Or perhaps an app that runs at boot and disables screen touches?
As an aside, if anyone knew of a way to calibrate my screen to induce a deadspot at the coordinates of the ghost touch (it's very consistent in a 1 inch square area, that would probably be the best.
Thanks for any help on this! I love my tablet and am hoping I can get it to at least marginally useful again!
Running Asus Transformer Infinity TF700T with Crombi-kk 4.4.2, have root access, knowledgeable with terminal (and how to edit build.prop from the terminal)
Hi wmdaricthompson,
I don't have an ASUS Transformer to try but a couple of weeks ago I did switch a digitizer and LCD on an IPhone. It should be just a matter of disconnecting the 2 parts of the ribbon cable that go to the digitizer. I don't have enough posts to give you a picture but if you google "asus transformer digitizer" and look at images you should be able to find pictures pretty quick. It is an orange ribbon cable than splits at the end into 2 separate cables. I don't know how hard it is to access this but if it is indeed because the hardware for the digitizer is malfunctioning this should fix it. Re-plugging in this cable (take off and then put back on) may even give you the digitizer back depending on if your issue is based on a wire connection problem.
Good luck and be careful taking your tablet apart (if you decide to that is).
Michael
PS - there is a youtube video called" How to Open and Fix Asus Tablet" by tampatec that shows you how to open your ASUS Transformer up.

Thank you for the information!
I have already opened the tablet once, and saw that cable, I wasn't sure if I would lose any element of the image as well, so I didn't pull it without getting some confirmation first (if I accidentally break a cable clip, I don't want to seriously regret it).
I'll try plugging/unplugging a few times to see if I get function back, and if not, I'll just lose the touch.
Thanks again for your reply!
(I'll post up here the results to confirm for any who are curious/googled their way to this thread)

Two thumbs up. Disconnecting the two amber cables from the screen disabled the touch capacity without impacting this picture at all.

Hi wmdaricthompson. Firstly I realize this is an old thread but thanks for the info. Just a few questions if you can remember. I also have the dock and have ghost touches making the tablet quite unusable so am thinking of doing your fix. When you disconnected the touchscreen cable did you just then leave it loose inside the tablet or did you remove both ends? The end from under the screen near the dock pins appears glued on rather than using clips.
Cheers
