Just Wow
It has a WP7 style kind of. It is laggy on a dual core w/ 1gb RAM. It must be in beta because it does not even flow well. It should be improved drastically... I hope..
It doesn't look smooth at all, and to be honest, it really isn't that big of a step up from Sense 3.0... I hope this isn't the final version
Well,
One good thing is coming out of HTC sense 4.0 not being the finished product yet:
IF the Amaze 4G is supposed to get ICS 4.0 with HTC sense 4.0, then "It ain't ready to be released yet!"
Again, that's a big IF.......
YAAYYY!
It looks like a knockoff version of touch wiz if you ask me. I mean I think that they should stick with the 3.5/3.6 look its a lot better. but this is just terrible.
guys stop nagging about it, i bet this is still in beta test of their developers, of couse is gonna be laggy, the fat lady aint singing yet, the phone its not even out to the market yet
i wouldn't fret so much over the current lag. there is still the HTC Confidential watermark... this means the phone's software is most likely still in test cycle 1. there are usually at least three (four in my experience) TC's before the start of the pre-pre-release build. about two-three weeks later a pre-release build is sent.. then a release intended for 'public' testing. (i still have screenshots with HTC Confidential and then the Serial Number of the phone from the myTouch 4G which i began testing in the first weeks of August.. phone was released in Nov)
splash screens will change, user features will change, UI will most likely see revamp as well.
as for the hardware, that will not change.
I actually think it looks pretty good. I still like just raw ICS better though.
ya why do people think this is so bad? i mean the dock is kinda ugly, but then again i've always hated htc's more than useless 3 shortcut dock with an over redundant personalize shortcut, so what the problem is?
Euugh. This thing is hideous. I was expecting something similar to the base ICS. Glad I rooted. Hopefully we could get an aosp rom working.

I think it looks fairly nice... Lol. Better than 3.0 imo

Why not stick to ICS IMHO I guess that is why three is so much delays between releases.

Its not super ugly, i would rather have this than touchwiz.
I know for sure that this isn't what it is going to look like. I heard sense 4.0
isn't coming out for a few more months.
To be honest... I don't use sense for its dock look... Because if that was the case I would not use it. I use it for features. I must admit I like the weather widget and graphics I am okay with the lock screen. I look forward to the stuff they claimed to be adding to 4.0 I'm sure there will be better widgets and such as well. If I wanted ease of use and clean look I'd use my adw ex launcher. I love the gestures especially on a phone with a larger screen. Also like the app drawer much better than the sense one... To each his own. I much rather have those options on my dock than having to make shortcuts to all those things since my dock is next to useless
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G using XDA App
lol its funny when i see almost everyone *****ing about it. i think its an approvement.. are you guys saying you would rather have Sense ALWAYS be the same exact thing every single update? how boring is that.... seriously.
also, a lot of you know how we can change out docks and what not in older versions of Sense. do you think HTC would make it to where that is the only dock available? im sure they are smarter than that..
Edit: by "you guys" i didnt really mean a lot of people in the amaze thread, pretty much pointing at all the hate on Youtube and the mytouch forum got a lot of hate too for some reason. when the mytouch ROM is way more ugly than that xD
I might be able to my local T-Mobile store since they have the HTV Ville Live Employee my Demo. Ill see if they have it if they do ill report back.

...what I think is sad are people who get phones with vanilla android trying to port sense, what I think is even more sad is people doing it completely different phones that have barely anything in common. read that as meaning: most **** is broken. and they are willing to put up with that, whereas I can't stand sense and that definitely played into my decision to return it.
To each his own. Something happened, slowly. The consensus used to be originally on the E4G forum that "we" liked AOSP more. Then I'd say a few months in up until a few months ago it was a pretty even split. Now it seems that the vast majority of "us" prefer sense.
<troll>Someone should ask cyanogen to make a sense version</troll>
grass is always greener on the other side
I like most of the Sense UI. In fact, I didn't even change the default weather widget based one. I also like the lock screen dock thing which is cool and saves me some steps.
I *think* the hate comes from two things. One, it is kind of a resource pig. Two, you are forced to use it as opposed to it being an option. Some people just doing like to have things forced on them. At least that's what my dates used to tell me !self-zing!
I must admit now that I have a device capable of running Sense properly, it is much better. With that said, it's still a bloated pig that eats up too much space and resources.

Android: It will make you a sexual tyrannosaurus, just like me.
IMHO i dont like Vanilla very much... Sure its lighter and faster, but why? Its a stripped version of android, looks very bland and boring when using core apps. Sense on the other hand gives it a much needed polish and adds tons of features and much better integration to services. Its not as fast as Vanilla but it offers so much like better integrated contacts and gallery, better copy paste, easy access settings and recent apps in the notification bar, very polished UI and core apps, in a nutshell anything the common user might need and im sure that the devs will close the speed gap when custom roms hit

The best part of android is if you have a good dev community you can have whatever you want on your phone. Hell I'd try touch wiz for awhile if someone made a good port.

I can see that point of view...and I'll admit, it has a few slick features. Mostly contact integration...that's pretty much it. Hold down 'home' in any version of Android to see the recent apps...no need to pull down.
But when I use an OS interface I use it to navigate around to applications. The applications being what I actually want to use. I don't care how sexy the operating system looks, it is a means to an end. I don't use OSX just to play with the dock, I don't use Windows XP just to **** around with Luna... hell, I didn't use DOS just to type 'dir' over and over again. I certainly never used Solaris solely to be tormented by CDE...nor OS/2 for WPS....
To each their own, of course. I'm more of a utilitarian anyway...and something that is slick looking, has superfluous features and a couple handy features that I could still live without is just fine...but when it consumes half of your goddamned ram that is double what it used to be....well...I just can't abide by that.
To me that's like getting a new car that has a fuel tank twice the size of last years model and gets less than half the miles per gallon too. wtf!?
It just offends my sensibilities. Once again, to each their own.

I am loving Sense 3.0. What I cannot believe though is even after all the version upgrades, they still have a settings button in the launcher and not something that might be useful!
What is even harder to believe is they still won't let us choose what apps we want in our launcher. You would think before they developed any other part of Sense that would be the first thing they addressed.
Maybe Steve Jobs created the launcher for HTC and that is what he wanted in it?
I love sense now. It has wonderful battery life and a pretty UI. If only I could hook the Wii remote to it. That would be hot. I don't care about speed test. It's fast enough.
I'd wish they made it possible to alphabetize shortcuts in folders. I love Sense 3.0!
As far as functionality, Vanilla takes the cake. However, Sense 3.0 isn't bad. In fact, it's quite usable.
As far as look/feel, Sense is beatiful...especially the widgets. I absolutely HATE those bland white menus though. However, AOSP ROMs are theme central (especially MIUI) and can be customized to perfection.
I prefer AOSP ROMs. Not because they contain no Sense, but because they are more customizable and take up less space.
My NS4G came with stock Android (which I prefer), but the dev support is not even a quarter of what the Evo has. That's why I bought an Evo 3D, and that's why I'm going to flash an AOSP ROM on it as soon as perm root is to be had.
So out of pure stubbornness... someone said sense takes up half your ram on your phone now are speaking of ram that your phone has avail for program usage or for storage becuase my phone seems to only be using 200 megs of ram with everything i have running on the phone and still has like 600 megs free for other stuff i never seem to run out of ram so i dont understand where your getting off saying this.... now if i am wrong please point me in the right direction to look and see sense taking up half my ram? also i used to have a HERO and let me tell you sense ran like old crusty dog dookie so it was gone as soon as i got my phone rooted... this phone i am totally happy with sense other than the fact that i cant seem to change some settings i would like to change. But thats to be expected and hopefully devs can add some new settings into this phone to make it more user freindly. but HTC you did a good job i am happy with this phone now unlock the damn thing already =)
Like they say, you never know what you had until its gon or something like dat lol

I don't terribly mind Sense, but I'm definitely jumping ship for vanilla as soon as it's an option.

Coming from a HERO stock e3D is a steller mind blowing experience I'm sure...coming from a highly tuned Evo4G it was 'okay, a little faster' at best. most of the time i didn't even notice a differene...not that there wasn't one, but it wasn't staggering enough to notice.

sense 3.0 is nice !! now that i can disable most of the bloatware its even faster
I'm enjoying sense 3.0 thus far. I only have 2 gripes. 1- I wish the notification drop down was accessible from the lock screen. I loved widget locker for this reason alone. 2- after opening the app drawer, selecting an app, then hitting home or back when done, I wish it would go back to the home screen rather than back to the app drawer.

Convenient that.
I call fake. The About screen strangely lists "Icecream Sandwich", but on every Android I've played with it would list the numerical designator (such as "2.3.4"). Things also appear more skinned than stock (I would hope Google has a bit better sense of graphic design than what I'm seeing there).

If that was real ICS, you think HTC is going to switch desktops from the HTC Sense one to the ICS one?
I doubt it but it would be cool to see them giving an option.
SUCH BS..
They wouldn't wipe it, they'd send out corporate security to buy the phone back and investigate the theft...
Wow. SO MUCH IMPROVEMENT. Real or not, widgets in the app drawer is nice. Also the home button feature is swagged out. I cant imagine CM8.
#SWAG!!!
So after seeing some "screenshots" of what ICS will look like on the Nexus Prime, it actually looks pretty sweet if it's real. I like the coloring and looks of everything. But the way HTC goes with Sense, do you think that they will make a transition and changes the looks of things to match it, or do you think it will look as it does now seeing Sense is well, Sense. It really hasn't changed with other big updates.

I love how vanilla android looks, I also think sense is really nice too. Honeycomb is pretty sexy too. It seems like ICS is trying to bring elements of all these together. We'll see how well that works out.
I think to start out htc will prolly port thier apps (email etc) and do some light theming then later on bloat it out later on
I would really like to see a whole new Sense that is themed to go along with vanilla and honeycomb. It's time for a new change

I prefer the looks of stock Android, but the functionality of Sense. I hope to god that Sense is either somehow made optional, or that it is revised to look like ICS. Judging by HTC and their past updates though, not gonna happen...

I wanna say I remember Google saying something about with ICS they wanted to take a stronger stand on the overlays that were being put on by the manufacturers and make sure what they were doing were not hindering Android OS, or something to that extent where they wanted less of it...
but even so I still expect Sense to be there on the device running as its part of HTC by now and a reason a lot of people get their phones as opposed to the motoblur crap...
I have always been a little confused by some people that by and HTC phone. You see it in every HTC phone forum. People by the latest and greatest HTC phone just to get rid of Sense. You know going into buying an HTC phone it has Sense but you don't like it. Why not just wait for the GNEX? I had an ERIS. I understand trying to get every inch of speed out of your phone. This phone doesn't need that. With the Eris I even ran a Sense based ROM because it just seemed to actually be the smoothest thing to run on it. This phone was built for Sense. It just needs to be optimized and tweaked a little. On my ERIS I flashed pretty much every ROM made for that guy. Always went back to Sense. Just felt right. But if I didn't like Sense, I would have never bought this phone. I am just trying to get some feedback from the rest of you guys/girls to get a better understanding of this trend.
Well in my case I got the sensation because it was dual core. Solid screen size and it was out about 6 months before the gs2. I never had much of a problem with sense other than the fact that it's a ram hog. I would imagine people buy HTC products because of the hardware.
Sent from my Sensation 4g using XDA App
So that you have less programs taking resources from other programs.
HTC makes good hardware. Up until they started being strict about locking the bootloader, you get the phone for the hardware, design (prefer theirs over Samsung), you could buy the phone and put other roms on there that are faster. Nexus phones are good only because of the software, but hardware wise its usually a little behind. So if you could put the same software on better hardware, its a better option.
Because HTC has some decent phones, but Sense is an abomination. We want the hardware, but not the ****ty software. It's a pretty simple concept.

I could rant for hours about why I hate Sense. It breaks compatibility, removes features, generally looks completely fugly (not so much now a days but on my Evo 4G, it's terribly ugly), performance issues, battery issues, closed nature is against my GNU ways, severely ****s up contacts (embeds notes into your Google Contacts in the cloud, often times doesn't sync properly etc), spams you about some ****ty HTC Sync option every time I plugin to my PC which is 300% useless as I run Linux on my desktop, and the list goes on and on.
CM7 is overall just a huge improvement. I love not being tied to HTC's garbage, being able to build and tweak my own ROMs *from source*, getting updates for newer versions before 99% of phones have them, etc.

That's like buying a new car for the the power train only. There is going to be something comparable to the rezound in no time. If you hate HTC's twist on android why support them by buying there phone? Business see numbers, if they are selling their phones like hot cakes they think you pretty much like the overall phone. They are gonna just keep expanding and refining sense.
HTC isn't suddenly going to stop using Sense because I didn't buy their phones (which, btw, I've already stopped doing, samsung > *), and if we think that sense is total **** (which it is), why shouldn't we remove it? We're not paying for the OS, we're paying for the phone.

I understand the whole being able to fully customize to your liking. That's why I am asking, iF you have such a hate for Sense why would you financially support what they are putting out? I also understand your a dev so you love linux and the more pure android experience. Would you buy and iPhone if you like the specs on it? Your question was why buy a phone that had sense on it, knowing it was there, rather than buying another brand and supporting HTC Financially when you didn't like the software.
For me, I didn't really know if I would like Sense or not. Having not run Sense on an Android phone, I was at least interested to try. I had Sense on an old Win-Mo phone, but had not had a chance to try the latest/greatest.
I suspected that I wouldn't like it (and I don't ... I'm not into social media, and I like to tweak my launcher bar, screen size, etc .. things I can't do with Sense), but this particular phone is still the best you can buy at this moment. Best screen, CPU, etc. While the G-Nex has some appeal, I had hoped this phone would give me the best of all worlds (Try Sense, if I don't like it, unlock, go AOSP, etc.).
My 'dig' at you was simply that on this type of site, in this type of environment, we aren't just 'users'. We are tweakers at a minimum, and some even hav dev skills. So the concept of taking ANY phone and not 'ripping it apart' doesn't fit. If it was a Samsung phone, we'd be trying to get rid of Touchwiz, if it was Motorola, we'd want free of MotoBlur.

I am totally for it. Like you said if we are here we are tweakers at minimum. I was more questioning the people the first day it was out wanting s-off to get ride of sense. Then recently the desense utility came out. It just sparked my interest. Who knows when ICS comes out if I will still want sense myself.
Let's try this again:
One of the more interesting announcements from our beloved manufacturer at MWC 2012 was that they admit that Sense had become too cluttered and ask us to expect a much leaner design in 4.0
http://www.theverge.com/2012/3/2/2840336/htc-sense-ui-got-cluttered-redesign
This is promising, because it demonstrates that your voice is heard.
I wonder if they decided this since their sales have been going down, people speak with their wallets, and that's when companies take notice.
There is a whole thread on this already that ended up getting locked.

Actually I think there can be decent discussion. The old thread was effectively stating HTC admits sense is crap which wasn't true. This thread is true. Cluttered !=crap.

RAM to spare is not how Android works. If you have too much spare RAM in Android then your apps aren't loading effectively. OT, I didn't think Sense was cluttered. I just didn't like the way it used screen real estate. The newer Sense 3.6 is more to my liking. But to me if you're going to take out the traditional Sense launcher then why not just go AOSP plus Sense widgets?
yeah the way in which the op of this thread posted this was in a mature, intellectual manner that can spark a true discussion, unlike the other thread.
I love sense, but yeah i agree sense 3.5 seems much more hoggish than 2 did, and of course 1. it'll be cool to see what's up their sleeves for 4.0,even though I love 3.5

I respectfully disagree. The OP's intentions in the other thread were to deliberately cause turmoil to people that actually enjoyed Sense, which, inevitably, lead to a flame war.
The OP in here realized that and actually said, "Let's try this again." His intentions are to try to have a nice discussion about the subject.
To add to the topic, I'm sure the new Sense will be a lot less resource intensive and I hope it will be as quick as some AOSP ROMS. I like some aspects of Sense on the Rezound, but it really does consume way too many resources.
I really like the Weather and **** Widget and that was one of the things I missed on my Incredible when I moved to AOSP ROMS. Also I liked the Dialer a lot, too. Sense 3.5 does make things "look" a lot nicer compared to AOSP, but I do agree they have "cluttered" it way too much in Sense 3.5

Does that widget come with a Ron Jeremy skin? I'll never get my phone away from my wife.....
KORM via the beast known as the Rezound.
Those afflicted with Choice Supportive Bias may be uncomfortable with any criticism of a product they purchased, but xda is perfectly capable of this discussion.
This announcement has me more excited about Sense 4.0 because rather than loading it with more features, like most updates, they might actually be slimming it down! I'm hoping for smoother window and transition animations, as a result.

once again, its a phone, not a 30k car. If you don't like sense, shouldn't have bought the phone. Expecting an htc phone to not have sense is ignorant at best considering every android htc phone has it.
Have you guys tried out the sense 4 ports? It's absolutely the best thing I've ever used on android, and I promise, I will do anything to the dev that gets it to daily driver first.

what does sense 4 add over 3.6 that we have now in the leaks?
Regarding the OP:
Yeah, I am REALLY excited to see them changing their tune on this. It was pretty concerning to see the HTC guy at the CES roundtable so vehemently defending Sense ("It's not a skin, it's an experience").
I also don't hate Sense, but I do think there's a lot they can do to lighten it up and modernize it. Running an ICS ROM right now is pretty jarring as you transition between Sense and stock (Holo) apps and interface elements.

i don't agree with this really. i always buy htc but i hate sense. we usually always get aosp roms which are usually superior anyways. this phone will fly once we get cm9.

the phone already flies, it can't get any faster for me. Button presses are immediately recognized, I can scroll the home screen without lag.
The days of saying that sense is slowing down the phone are gone for me.
