Hi,
I was planing to buy GooApple but then came across this new phone.
Has any one bought it ?
Any reviews?
fastcardtech is selling the same on their site
They are also saying that it has 3800mA battery, which i pretty good.
Any suggestions/reviews
Just received it on monday. Have been using it, but the battery dies quicker than I expected. With extensive use you definitely won't make it through the day (mostly due to screen use). The GPS and WIFI are definitely huge battery users. The phone itself however is very good. There's a lack of Android store on it right now, so I'm downloading it now and will install it when I get home using the APK.
Overall its a good phone, just the battery doesn't seem to be that great. I'm going to check if its just a faulty battery and try the other one.

Glass or plastic.
Hi,
The back and the front cover of M99 is plastic or glass ?
Thank you
Is the camera really 5.0mp? I've bought loads of phones that say they are & turn out to be 0.3mp.

Hi,
I might switch to the xperia z2 as my new phone. However, I am currently on a galaxy s3 with a 7000 mAh battery so I would like to know of any decent battery expansion options exist for the Z2. I was looking into battery cases as I want everything to be in one package as opposed to having a separate power bar.
Do you know of any good/reliable battery cases?
I was looking at one from Brando workshop but the company does not seem reliable and there is no frontal protection. I can't post a link due to my noob status.

Hi, with stamina mode on my z2 has been on for 2.5 days and still has 18% battery left. How much power do you need.
I am a quite heavy user and WiFi is on permanently.
My z did not last a day and I used a powerbank case with a 3000mhr battery. Was a good case but I haven't needed one.
Then your not a heavy user, he clearly is, I only get a day, day and a half max
So far I've only found these... I have been looking too.

Brando cases were a popular option for the Lumia 920 when I was still on WP, I never heard anything particularly bad about them and assuming this is as cheap as the 920 one was I'd say it is probably worth a try.
sorry for the late reply guys. Thanks for the help.
I emailed Brando about having an xperia z2 case with Cover and they actually added one. If quality is not a concern, I would definitely check it out. Search xperia z2 battery case on their site to find it. (I still can't post links)
Unless it's still waterproof I couldn't use one personally, St the moment I just under clock the cpu to save battery, all apps still work flawlessly and smoothly at 1.5 ghz

Thanks for the tip regarding Brando. I just purchased a white Brando one so hoping its as good as it appears. I noticed plenty of the Ebay ones dont mention it but when i emailed the sellers, they are charge only, dont support data sync which would be a hassle having to always remove it from the case.
Whereas this one mentions data sync exists.
data sync?

Pretty sure data sync cannot function thru the magnetic charging port but...
So does the data sync work on the Brando battery case???
Pretty awesome if it does!

Nope, definitely doesn't support data sync. When I advised the seller of this, they apologised and eventually offered me a refund in full, allowed me to keep the case and advised they would update their website to remove that it supports data sync but few days ago when I checked they haven't updated anything lol

I'm fed up with the growing size of modern smartphones, and really miss the good old days of sub 5" displays. Someone recently pointed out that the Galaxy Alpha was one of the last 4.7" phones that tried to be somewhat "premium" rather than watered down minis. I have to say, the Alpha does appear to check off a lot of my boxes re: what I'm looking for, but I have 2 somewhat major concerns:
1) Support seems nearly non-existent, with last official firmware ending at 5.0.
2) BATTERY APPEARS TINY. I mean, ridiculously small- even my last 4" phones had 2000+mah batteries. I used to carry spares for my Galaxy S4, and that was easily 50% more than the OEM on this thing.
I could deal with #1, 5.0 isn't that bad and I see there's some Cyanogen love up in here somewhere. The second issue is more concerning to me- I see there is a kit to extend the battery with a larger capacity cell and back, but I'm not sure if that's just a "good-enough" solution if you already owned the phone, or if it really is reliable enough to use going into this from the start. What do you guys think? Is there anything else perhaps I should be considering?
Elegant piece of hardware. Reliability, screen quality, weight, speed etc. all great... It's a great phone, but i you like AOSP / Cyanogenmod and/or hate Touchwiz, you'll have to deal with call quality anda camera problems when you install ROMs.
Battery is not an issue for me. Maybe because the resolution is 720p "only".
Light weight is a major plus for me. 115 grams!!!
Hi,
I've bought mine from a eBay seller from China. Paid US $195.00 for it. Quite happy as i was looking to buy a Alpha from some time. Charcoal Black. Indeed the battery lasts a bit quickly, but after i changed some settings, it holds almost for a day. Managed to buy the 2500 mAh battery + extended battery cover Samsung kit from a Estonian online store a few days ago. Totally happy now
(PS: Regarding the Samsung support, the Alpha may get Marshmallow, but it will be the last device to receive it, maybe around December 2016, early 2017...)
Hey Dishe,
I won't talk about the specs, just my personal experience.
I have my Alpha for over a year now and it's still snappy and satisfies all my needs. Because of it's elegant design, and the fact that it's a pretty rare phone, people think it's a new model. I like that the screen is 4.7" because I can use with one hand and don't even feel it in my pocket.
The only thing that bugs me a little is the small 1800 mah battery. Now my battery is pretty old and on moderate usage it can make it through the day, but When I'm heavy on maps, youtube and games I have to charge it twice, so powerbank is a must. You can flash duki994's kernel and undervolt the cpu to lower the power consumption, I'm planning on doing that.
I think this is still the best small android out there and to me it feels more premium than new flagship phones.
@RaceJay can you pm me with that estonian website where you got the 2500 mah battery kit?
yeah i have mine for 2 years .. iam fully satisfied .. as all people here the battery is the problem .. but guess what happened ,, 2 days ago i bought 3 batteries from a store .. i opened 3 alpha phones and bought 3 original batteries , i dont care what will this guy do .. but as a pro in android and samsung phone iam sure 100% original .. 3 batt fro 90$ and now iam using one and playing doom 3 on medium graphics it lasts 3 hours .. without any heating problems ..i took 2 batteries for me and one for my gf ...
yeah its worth buying ,, iam not like idiot people who buy every year a phone and they dont know what is the meaning of phone and os .. just for showing off .. i have 2 galaxy alpha phones one is doing my job and the other i left it for any accidental issues ... w.r.t roms .. xda forum has many roms and kernels so its not necessary to find a popular phone other alpha ... i have every thing .. tchaw
Wondering the same. But I heard the CM ROMs aren't very stable.
Yes, very good phone.
Can you give me the link with the info about MM for Alpha? Where you have seen it?
You could consider the xperia z5 compact or x compact. Batteries are non removable but I heard they could have 5+ SOT easily. Only thing is that they are quite ugly.
Can anyone suggest where to find good batteries?
I'm getting a used Note Pro and I don't know if the battery performance will still be decent. I'm buying a 30000mAh power bank along with it but I would love to know where I can find good batteries in case I want to replace them myself. I can do the replacement (skills and tools present) but I need to find a good battery first

3rd party batteries are a hit and miss. They just don't have the quality control big companies have. It's pretty cheap so just give it a shot. Returns on Amazon are easy.

Using that one now...
Been using that particular one for about 6 months now without problems, but quality varies on these generic brands. If you are going to be replacing the battery, make sure you clean and treat the terminals with Deoxit Red, then coat with Deoxit Gold http://a.co/dRU123V - that stuff is pricey, but worth every penny you spend. You will never have connection issues again. I use that every time I put something back together.
Also look around the site for instructions on how to re-solder the battery connectors - some users have had issues like flickering brightness because of marginal connectors. Hardest part is getting the back off (and it isn't hard) - just take your time and you won't have any problems.

I can attest to the minimal level of difficulty in removing the back panel of the sm-p900.
Just slow and steady with something similar to a medium-hard + hard guitar pick (credit/gift card thickness vary...or some guitar picks lol) And as usual, there is always the $100 plastics kit....which I want no part of, but spend it if you got it.
I just wedged a guitar pick between the backing and the screen (feel/look for the seam, you'll find it) to get the opening started, then wedged a credit card in to keep it from snapping back shut, and moved steady around the perimeter (adding chopped old gift cards in parts to keep from snapping back together) until the front and back separated.
There may be a couple of connections that would need to be disconnected prior to pulling the back panel and face completely apart (I think, but again, it's been a while now so don't hold me to that), but either way, I'm sure you could pull the connection for the battery (the battery is in the middle, top side, near camera) without having to fully separate, but it's much easier when separated all the way (in my experience at least).
I've had to reconnect the battery before after the battery connection became a tad loose somehow, causing the battery itself to get very hot (and very dangerous I might add) Now that I think about it, didn't this happen with a very popular phone recently SAMSUNG?!? And part of the GALAXY line? Hmm. Odd.

Thank you. Is there a problem when downgrade android 5.1 from Lineage OS Nougat ?
I feel my Z3TC is coming to the end of it's useful life, the battery isn't what it was and it looks like development has stopped / slowed on the ROMs (I am rocking the AICP ROM) which is amazing and has easily given me another 2 years with it. I would say there is no chance of Pie, which while on it's own isn't enough to get rid of it but with the battery...
I am looking to replace it, I would like something with an active ROM community and just wondered what people had switched too? My current choice is the Mi Pad 4 which looks like it would be a really good fit and the community looks like it will be active.
Thoughts please people!
If you don't mind not having waterproof and NFC, I would say that's the sweet spot. SD660 is a top mid range performer although I would prefer a SD710.
Also screen quality and sound might be a step back (I'm just guessing Sony is better).
I hope Sony will develop a new version of the Z3 Tablet Compact, XZ2-3 Tablet Compact maybe? But it seems that Sony don't develop any tablet anymore? In not into the TV-sized tablets, 7-8" is good enough for me, but most tabs seems to be pretty huge IMO.
I moved on to the Huawei Mediapad M5 (in part because it's a phone and has the LTE bands I need). It is not as compact but is otherwise a suitable replacement and improvement. The dev community is larger than it might seem, as all Huawei devices share core things in common.
Lenovo's 8" tab is another option
As for the Z3TC - I recently ordered this battery. I haven't received it yet, and I think it is off-brand. I'll update once it is installed.
Hi, I've only just joined this forum as I saw this thread on Google. I have two Z3's, an SGP621 bought roughly five years ago, and an SGP611, bought just over a week ago as a refurb on eBay. Both are running Android 6.0.1. The battery on the older SGP621 is driving me nuts, as the charge gets down to between 50-60% and a minute later the tablet turns itself off, stating that the battery is flat. It's put on charge and literally minutes later, the charge is showing 70-80%.
Looking on YouTube, there are videos of people putting a new battery into an Xperia phone, but the only videos that I have seen on there for a Z3 tablet are of people literally dismantling one and putting it back together. I don't feel confident enough to start melting the glue around the front of my tablet to change the battery (i'll probably end up ruining it anyway), but not certain whether the problem IS the battery, or whether the tablet is just telling porkies and there isn't anything wrong with the battery, more the system? The rumour mill is stating that Z3's are no longer for sale new in the UK, which makes sense as I had to buy a replacement USB dust cover (a tiny piece of plastic, as you all probably know) from Germany recently and it cost including postage, nearly £20. Sony's UK website states that Z3's are no longer supported in the UK, which is as much use as toothache.
As this thread says, I still love my Z3TC but.......which is exactly how I feel at the moment. Literally, any advice that you guys could give me would be much appreciated. I have asked a local mobile/computer repair company (which is closed at the moment, due to lockdown) whether they would a) be able to fit a new battery in the tablet and b) how much it would cost, so I'm not committed to anything, just waiting for them to reply.
Thank you so much for even reading this rant,
Linda
Hello all,
I just received my 7.1 and thought I'd just give everyone some quick impressions. The "Blue" color is almost black it's so dark. Not a deal breaker for me but it's darker than I expected.
It feels good. Solid. The screen is pretty good as well and bright enough to be usable in direct sunlight. Not Samsung bright but good.
It seems pretty snappy overall but I'm used to using an S8+ and an Essential PH-1 (the PH-1 has battery issues that Essential won't fix so the 7.1 is it's replacement) which are both very quick phones. It's not slow by any means I'm just used to super fast.
I've spent most of the afternoon getting it setup and installing apps and only used about 40% of the battery but got three hours of SOT so that seems somewhat promising.
Played with the camera just a bit. The pic I posted is straight out of the camera.
It came on the September security patch and no updates are available as of yet.
It's bare bones Android as expected but there are a couple of settings that I can't find one being how to enable the battery percentage in the status bar. I've enabled System UI Tuner and it's not in there or in any of the Battery settings that I can find.
And I can confirm that it is a dual sim device and I can enable WiFi calling but it remains to be seen if it will work because I am on AT&T prepaid and pretty sure I don't have it.
It comes with some earbuds a charger and cable in the box.
I really want to put it in a case. I hope some become available soon.
Anyway if anyone has a question I will answer what I can.
I seen a few camera samples before yours, and the pictures look good until you zoom in a little and see that all the detail is gone. Do you think it’s just Nokia’s camera app? I’d like to see how google camera does on this phone.
I don't know what to say about that except the sample on my pc looks much better than the sample here. I can't explain it, but it's plain to see. I would try a gcam version if I can figure out which one seems the most compatible. I can install ProShot and see if that gets better results.
I haven't spent much time with the camera app but I thought it was fine as far as usability goes but then again I'm not all that demanding. I'm more of a point and shoot user.
It's not as good as my S8+ but I really wouldn't expect it to be either for less than half the cost.
If the weather clears up here maybe I'll take the S8 and the 7.1 out and do a comparison.

Could you upload the same somewhere else that lets you do it lossless?
I'm returning the phone to Amazon. The case situation is ridiculous. Nokia support referred me to a Nokia case that Amazon says "one to three months" wait. When I asked the support rep why Nokia didn't have anything ready at the launch they just referred me back to the Nokia case. The phone is slippery and I've already almost dropped it more than once. I'm returning it before I damage it.
Edit: Bought a Pixel 2 instead which is what I should have done in the first place.
Mmm was thinking of replacing my PH-1 with this. I don't have battery issues but my touch screen is like super fu**ed with ghost touch, flickering, and bad service in my area (switching to att in few weeks). Amazon is willing to give me a full refund but was not sure if I should take it or RMA with Essential for screen.
You just returning the Nokia cause no case options ? Everything else seems to work straight? Obviously anything camera wise can beat the essential so that's why I was looking into 7.1 lol.

Yes I returned it because I'm not comfortable carrying a slippery bar of soap around until someone decides to release a case. The phone itself was fine for what it cost. I almost dropped it a couple of times and if I drop it without a case it's on me. Nokia screwed the pooch here because it's a decent device let down by absolutely no third party support. Nokia can't even deliver their own cases! Those are showing as one to three months to deliver. All the Chinese cases have very vague shipping dates from the middle of November to the Middle of December.
I realize not everyone will feel this way but I decided I would be better off returning it now. I really wanted a Pixel 2 anyway so that's what I did.
The camera was decent and I managed to get a Gcam mod working on it (GCam-5.1.018-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V8.3b1) but never really got the time to test it out quality-wise.
If you can live with little to no options for a case it's worth the money as far as I'm concerned.
Thanks for the insight man!
I may just order one once I send this PH-1 back then. Ill just get a universal slip in phone case or flipcase from 5below until I'm able to get a case for it then. That or steal otn of my kids Power Ranger socks from the dryer and carry it around like that till end of November.
