Titanium Backup Defrost - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I have an issue when Im trying to defrost apps I have frozen with Titanium Backup. I have frozen the voice command and voice search apps and wanted to defrost them. When I click on them a defrost it says they have been successfully defrosted yet they still stay highlighted in blue.
I have tried clearing the TB cache and my phones cache and dalvik cache but the problem still exists. I even tried freezing one of my downloaded apps and then defrosting it and it has the same problem. I have reinstalled TB but that didnt help. Any ideas?
Thanks
Edit- I believe this may be an issue with ICS I am using so nevermind.
Thanks anway

[Q] Weird error

I'm getting a really weird error and I can't figure out how to fix it.
----------------------------------------
The application Google Search (process com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
----------------------------------------
Anyone have any ideas?
sounds like you either had a bad flash, or you restored system data with titanium backup.
back up the stuff you need, go into cwm recovery, and do a wipe data/factory reset. you will have to set everything up again, but this should take care of your force closes.
if you continue to get force closes, then try to re-flash the ROM you are on (after wiping data/factory resetting).
Is there any way to fix this without re-flashing? I spent a ton of time tweaking everything to get what I wanted and would have to re-do everything.
you could try settings > applications > manage applications > all > google search > clear data
i'm far from 100% positive that google search is the process that is force closing... and even if that is the correct process, i'm not sure that this will permanently solve your problem, but i think it is worth a shot. i think this will clear all of the data from your google search widget, which i assume is what you are trying to use when you get the error.
let me know if it works!
Thanks for the suggestion. I gave it a try, but still no luck. Any other ideas?
When are you getting the error, are you using the Google search widget?
Did you try backing up and wiping cache/factory reset as other user suggested? When restoring with TuBu restore MISSING apps only.

I only get the error when I try using the Google Search function - either with a homescreen widget, or by pressing the hardware search key on the device.
So, what you're suggesting is that I back up my current rom/settings using Titanium Backup, wipe cache / factory reset with CWM, then restore the backup using Titanium, but for missing apps?
That would give me my current setup, but with any missing system apps?
Fix Permissions and wipe cache/dalvik (both in CWM) - if those fail, time to wipe data and restore your apps in TiBu.
Thanks for your suggestion, Entropy. I reset permissions and wiped both caches, but still have the same issue.
I think what is causing this is that I deleted the system app "ApplicationsProvider.apk", which appears to be related to the Google Search app. I previously tried to restore the file manually using Root Explorer and my original backup and I don't think it fully restored.
Could I use Titanium to restore this file if I've never made a backup with Titanium?
If you never backed it up, then you can't restore it. You could do a google search for the .apk, or else you can see if someone on these forums will pull theirs off of their phone and upload it for you. But you're really better off wiping and starting over at this point.
I have that apk from my original CWM backup before I loaded Cyanogen. I tried to restore using Root Explorer, but it doesn't seem like it "took".
It shows up in my system applications area in SystemApp Remover. But, when I try to delete it again using the program I get an error: "Application not found. The application was not found in the list of installed applications."
Any ideas?

[Q] Lots of force closes

On Wednesday I started getting random FCs on a bunch of programs. I uninstalled all apps from the last few days and then switched from Entropy's DD to the plain kernel with CWM, and that seemed to fix it.
Then today I got the dropbox beta for some free extra space, and now I'm getting FCs on a bunch of unrelated apps. I've uninstalled dropbox, wiped cache and dalvik cache, and tried switching kernels, but nothing is fixing it.
Is there any option other than factory reset? And if I do that, I want to keep my apps/data... I have MyBackup Root. My understanding is that backs up my apps, their associated data, and then also my call logs, sms messages, etc, and then I'll be able to restore them on the fresh install. Is there anything else I'd want to be backing up? Also if I'm going to do a factory reset, I'm thinking of trying shostock. Would MyBackup be able to restore all of my apps to a different rom?
Also I'm on stock 2.3.4.
Whatever programs are force closing, have you tried going into Settings, applications and clearing the cache/data for those programs?
Yeah, they still force close.
You could also grab ROM manager from the market and try using that to fix permissions. might be a long shot, but a try prior to a full wipe.

In retrospect I could have done that from CWM recovery I think, but I ended up just doing a full wipe and installing SHOstock and haven't had any problems yet. Hopefully it'll stay this way..

[Q] Freezing & defrosting

I recently flashed the resurrection ROM. I then accidentally froze my music app through Titanium Backup, whilst usb debugging was disabled.
Is there any way i can defrost it? I have tried many different ways but no luck. I don't wana have to re-flash the ROM.
This is what I've tried so far.
* normal defrost
* advanced defrosting through titanium backup settings
* deleting the app through root explorer and reinstalling the app
* installing an alternative defroster from the market
* Backing up with titanium backup and then restoring with titanium backup
After everything the app is still frozen.
Any help appreciated. Thanks

That wouldnt be an ICS ROM by any chance would it because thats a bug that ICS ROMs are having with Titanium. As far as Im aware its still an unfixed bug.
Yup ICS. It's probably a bug with freezing and defrosting itself otherwise the other app would have worked..

I thought it sounded like ICS.Thats one of the bugs that still cant seem to be fixed at the moment. Its a pain in the butt too when you choose something by accident but at the moment I havent heard of anyone able to come up with some kind of work around to sort it out till the official release.
EDIT: Why dont you copy/paste it to your internalSD with root explorer then delete it with Titanium and then with root explorer copy/paste it to System/app folder again so it gets reinstalled as a system app.
Did that, didn't work... Doesn't matter now though.. I re-flashed :/. Just busy in setting everything up again now.

Thanks, i was not aware of this bug. my luck i didn't Freeze any important app. ill stick to my ROM and wait for the official ICS release.
thanks.
Just a quick update if it helps someone.
if you froze an app and cant defrost it, you can open Titanium backup, click the frozen app and choose "Uninstall", now you can install the app again and it will work ok.
Mine still gets reinstalled frozen.I have to back it up before uninstalling so it gets reinstalled frozen.
If you're still having this problem check out my thread for a work around http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1486300

Titanium Backup crashing after factory reset

I've recently done a factory reset and now Titanium Backup crashes every time I try and backup/restore an app. It used to work fine but now I've reinstalled it and copied the 'TitaniumBackup' folder (that contains the backups) to where it was, so everything is as it was pre factory reset.
The uninstalled apps show up as normal with a line through, but if I select one it hangs momentarily and I get an error (Unfortunately Titanium Backup has stopped. Report/OK). I've cleared app data and uninstalled/reinstalled TB. This also happens if I select an app that I haven't previously uninstalled, so it's not just having a problem with my backup files.
I have absolutely no idea what could be different and causing this. THanks for any help.
Same problem for me...

Does it say which app it's trying to back up when it hangs on 2%? I've found that some apps don't play well with TiBu, especially when I'm trying to restore the app. Maybe you can exclude that app from the backup run.

I dnt know about the backing up issue but I can tell you when restoring apps and your having problems and ill asume its when restoring app/data cuz thats what I had problems with. When I try to restore both it hangs. If you just reinstall the app for playstore or the apk from wherever you got it from then use tb to restore just data ...That works everytime.
Maybe for backing apps and data up maybe do one at a time. It may take longer but youll get them backed.
