Like the title states...I ask this because after being disappointed by my brand new Galaxy Nexus with a defective screen. I'm looking to get the galaxy s2. But I'm torn between the SGH-T989 and this device because of the different processors. I realize that if I am to get the i9100 I will be stuck on edge.
The main reason I upgraded from my earlier phone the HTC Sensation was for a gorgeous display and an amazing day to day performance which my Galaxy Nexus failed to deliver. So I was just wondering if anyone who currently owns the i9100 is using it on T-Mobile and is it worth the edge or is the SGH-T989 as good or good enough as the i9100? All Opinions are Welcome.

I think being stuck on edge would feel crippling to me.

Are you in America? Because I'm on T-Mobile in the UK, and apart from my data being throttled to 1.8Mbps, its fine.

I've never managed more than 1mbps.....
I am perfectly satisfied with T-Mobile in Germany, other then them throttling my data after 300mb/month. Of course this is my own fault for the plan I setup.
He is on T-mobile USA, so different frequencies than Europe, and this phone (I9100) only gets Edge data speeds.

Your right..even with an amazing phone like the galaxy s2 having it on edge only is an insult and I couldn't tolerate it. So I'll just stick with my GN and see what happens with the Galaxy s3.

S3, you can live a month with your evo, can't you ?
This phone (GT-I9100) doesn't work on Sprint. If you're asking about the Sprint Galaxy S2 variant, then you're asking about the Epic 4g Touch. Which has a separate forum.

Great advice, if he wants to change carriers.
Since, as I said above, this phone doesn't work on Sprint's network.
If he wants a Galaxy S2 variant that works on Sprint, he wants to look at the Epic 4g Touch.
Thanks for the advice guys, I will wait for S3! As far as sprint goes, they offer a Samsung galaxy S2 on their page. What's the difference?

Hardware. The one Sprint offers is the Epic 4g Touch, (aka SPH-D710) and runs on a CDMA network. That phone has its own separate forum.
THIS phone (GT-I9100) is a GSM phone, and as I've already said, won't run on Sprint's network.
moving on to best smartphone of the year! galaxy s2 is a very wise move mate or better yet wait galaxy s3 but unfortunately release date is still unknown..
Okay gang, I need your help. I'm new to the android landscape (note was my first android device) and was asked by a good friend of mine to find her a phone.
She's looking for a Unlocked Samsung Galaxy series phone that she can use here in the US as well as be able to swap a sim card and use for service in Italy when she visits.
So two questions. What device do you all recommend, and where is the best place to procure it?
Thanks in advance!! I know this is a galaxy note forum, but couldn't think of a better group of folks to field these questions

Agreed. The unlocked Nexus $399.99 is the best choice for now.
Sent from my AT&T Galaxy Noteā¢ - please forgive any typos
Here's a list of frequencies used by country:
http://allworldcellphones.com/gsm-frequencies-list.htm
Italy uses GSM 900 and 1800 frequencies which is supported by the International Note as well as the I717. I didn't see anything about LTE or HSDPA related figures, but I only looked for 3 min and clicked the first link.
My suggestion would be for her to determine what she wants in a phone. Does she want to take notes? does she want a small phone? As long as the phone has the proper frequencies, she would be able to use it in Italy. Most AT&T phones have the capability of running 800 and 1800 as well as many others, but verify by looking at the specs before buying. If she has a US carrier in mind (like AT&T) she can buy one of those subsidized and pay an unlock fee from a site (cheapest I've heard of was $8) and will probably save money.
If she wants to buy a phone outright I'd say look at the galaxy 2 series. From what I hear it's a great phone, a large community here (if she feels the urge to mod it) and can pick a new unlocked one for about 400.
Hope this helps a little.
any international unlocked phone will work. the international gs3 wouldnt be a bad bet. n7000 as well. you just wont have lte. I would not recommend an at&t direct phone because it will not be unlocked. so sim flipping could be an issue in italy.
International Galaxy Note, Galaxy Nexus, or wait for the Galaxy S3 to come out.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
Currently on AT&T and am contemplating getting the Intl. version because of the quad core as well as no carrier bloatware, etc.
My question though is I have to use a MicroCell at home due to AT&T not having great coverage in my area... Will the Intl. version of the phone still work with the MicroCell unit?
Thanks!
Bump
Never really looked into the micro cell to much but my question is how do I actually order the int. Version for AT&T.
Also Bump.

Ok I just posted as another thread in a complete wrong section so I'm sorry if this is also the wrong one. (I've never used the app before). my question is, is the telstra s2 4g the same as the s2 epic 4g touch? And if so where can I find roms and such for it? Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9210T using xda app-developers app
G'Day fellow Failstra user
The main difference lies in the model numbers. I'm using the Telstra variant 3G S2, which gives me the model i9100T, where yours is i9210. I don't know the Epic's model, but it will be different again.
I was wondering the same thing about the 4G ROMs, as I got offered one for the same price as it'll cost for repairing this one. So I'm considering the change, but it depends on the availability of ROMs for it.
Maybe look further in this General forum for the Australia thread and see if there is any info in there.

Haha completely agree with the failstra. I it have them because they are the only network with coverage where I live :/... Otherwise Anaheim all the way .... But back to the subject, I have been reading around and from what I can tell the 4g is a completely different phone to the 3g because it has a different chipset.

I'm pretty sure this is correct. The Exynos processor from the Galaxy S II models isn't compatible with LTE networks. Even if it was, you might still have troubles because the networks are different so i wouldn't be surprised if the anntenas weren't different.
I feel sorry fit you because I'm having the same trouble atm with my Galaxy Tab 8.9

I've misplaced my G2X (i hated it!) and now I am looking to get a new phone under $350 Australian. What do you think is the best phone I can get at this price range? I am really keen on 4G and was looking and the galaxy nexus s2 4G but it lacks development. All suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Cheers!
there are no good android phones at this price range?
Galaxy Nexus? $350 off Google Play, unlocked. I don't know if its available in Australia though...

Hmm... what do you consider 4G? Gnex has HSPA+ which most people call 3.5G and Apple calls 4G (stupid). Are you looking for HSDPA?
