Hi, sorry if stupid question... how can i get voice commands to work on this rom?
the vsuite.apk not part of any of the addons, i got voice search from market and it works, to search and for voice input on the keyboard to compose texts and emails,
but i need "voice commands" app so that i can use my bluetooth. On stock, red pill, aura and darkside it was there, one press of bluetooth, say phone command, blue ant bluetooth said activating your phone's inbuilt voice commands, then you coud do numerous things ie call bob, play "playlist" etc. i found the vsuite.apk in numerous other roms i have on pc, extracted, copied to /system/app &/or /data/app and set permissions but it always fc's. i've been able to do this "porting" from another rom before for simple things like alarm clock, but can't get to work. Maybe something to do with deodexed vs non ROMs, files incompatible for each other. i love Neutrino, but hands free dialing in car from bluetooth is an absolute necessity, so could be a deal breaker.
Any help greatly appreciated!!
Have you tried the "Languages & TTS Add-On"?

Yes, thanks, I did install that, no difference.
I "know" [and I use the term loosely ] that the file I need is vsuite.apk,
b/c when I install it on my phone, the icon is right, it's the voice commands
icon from stock rom. It can be run manually by pressing icon in app drawer or activated
from bluetooth, it's the same, and a female voice asks you to say a command.
Disregard...

Not a stupid question. I think this is a an important "ROM Basic Requirement" for the drivers who can avoid texting while driving.
Anyway, I have found a "workaround" for the original voice command. It is the
Cyberin Voice Commander which works as a "replacement" of the original voice command from the other manufacturer.
It is working well here and it is worth paying it in the Android Market.
I have downloaded the portuguese (BR) version, but you can easily find your language over there.
Hope this helps.

Have to go to work, will try Cyberin asap. Thanks for the tip!!

Thanks again warevolo! It's working! Can't seem to regulate its volume independently, Bluetooth headset volume at minimum and cyberon voice still very loud, and voice recognition accuracy not as good, but it does work... beggars can't be choosers Cheers

anybody have tried this app? please share your experience.
tried it, like the features, but it does not work with better keyboard so unfortunately, I continue to hope for a backport of voice actions
Great app, provided me with hours of fun, once you know all the commands can work very well as long as you speak clearly.
When you dont speak so clearly some of the stuff it comes up with is brilliant!!!
Only really works very well in quiet backgrounds.
I think it works great. I've set it up with tasker to start the in-car app whenever i plug in a headset with mic.
I like it and it works nice even knowing that english is not my first language but i think it should support more languages.
EDIT: i just read that there is a spanish beta on BB...
I wish i could say love it but heres the thing....whenever i try to text my girlfriend, i get a window with add recipient on top and the text box at the bottom with no option to send....
vlingo registers my gf and gives me the option to click on her phone number but thats about it...help?
Does anyone know how I can get this app to automatically start when connected via bluetooth headset? Well it's a car navigation system but it should still work the same. That option doesn't seem to work for me.

Doesn't seem to be the case for me, I work in a noisy factory and it actually works better than when I'm in a quiet surrounding, weird because any other app using voice recoqnition doesn't work at all. I am truly impressed with this app.
On a side note... Iphone fanboys at work installed the "free" Vlingo app after they saw mine working, when they went to send the text they were informed that to use the texting feature it was $6.99. Ha Ha apple strikes again.
Is this app working 100% for you guys?
Works OK, problem I find is that it needs to connect to the Vlingo servers (via wifi or data) to check what you're saying before actually typing into text. So I stopped using it because of the charges I'm incurring.
Too bad it won't run off the SD card.
Vlingo Rocks! ***** Thumb's Up
I'm in Transportation and there is no better app when I am on the road. FREE and LOADED with useful features beta car mode is fantastic! As long as music is at reasonably low level and I speak loud and clear; it gets every word. Bluetooth settings are there, but I believe I need Android 2.2 or 2.3 on my X10 to use bluetooth as voice command mic. Other than that, it is a winner like Swype!
im having trouble with vlingo, it doesnt follow my instructions
Hi.
I have a major issue woth SGS2.
I have to make calls from a earphone and a motorcycle helmet, also with no internet connection avaible.
So I bought Cyberon Voice Commander (Italian versione).
It works very well, but when i press the button on the earphone, it starts the stock samsung voice recognition software, whic requires internet connection and doesn't work very well.
I can't associate eraphone button with cyberon.
I have contacted Cyberon, the answered:
"Here I'm sorry to inform you that we found on Samsung Galaxy S II, the Bluetooth handsfree profile (for voice dialing) was not implemented as Android's standard definition. Thus when user presses the BT button, only built-in voice recognition app will be launched automatically. We're really sorry for the inconvenience. Before Samsung fix this issue (if they will), if you'd like a refund please send us your order number. Thanks for your understanding in advance!"
Is there a way to remove samsung stock voice recognition software and associate cyberon with earphone and possibly also with home double click?
I am very unhappy by now!
Thanks!
FIXED!
I have found a fix!!
* Root your device
* Set google as default voice recognition instead of vlingo in settings>voice recognition (not sure this is important to do)
* Install Titanium backup (i Have paid full version, but probably you can use free
* Disable "comandi vocali" (Italy) which in english should be like "voice commands"
* Than I have cancelled the BR pairing, restarted the phone and paired BT again...
* Set Cyberon to use long press bt button to start
IT WORKS!!
What about same fix but without root?
I also need fix to disable standard Voice Talk and use Cyberon Voice Speed Dial.
It was worked fine before KE7 firmware was released
I believe it's hard
I think it's hard disabling built-in voice commands without rooting.
Also the "tasker" metod I used before needs the kill process with rooting rights option to kill voice command process and run cyberon.
Cyanogenmod for samsung galaxy s2 is quite ready and it will not have samsung apps anymore, but I guess you won't install it since you won't routing.
My personal consideration is that with every kind of device you can't expect it to do everything you whish unless you work "hard" on it.
I have choosen an open platform like android because is very simple to root and you can always chose an alternative rom to make the phone exactly as you whish.
I understand that sometimes custom rom could helps you. But I really like factory rom on SGS2, no freezes, very fast. I really see no reason to flash home cooked rom's and after that scream on each forum , that something doesn't work
Anyway, with prev. firmware everything was okay, but not with new one. And I really hope that this can be fixed without rooting.
Yes. I think you're right. I'll switch to a custom rom only when it will be really stable and fast.. I have messed up with custom rom for years on WM, now I want a little relax!
But rooting is not a custom rom.. my rom is the latest leaked from samsung (android 2.3.4), than I rooted and disabled build in voice recognition to enable Cyberon. The rom is still the original. Also now I can make full backups of the entire rom in case of corruptiom, failure or something other. Anyway noone is forced to think rooting is better. I hope Samsung will fix voice command incompatibility for anyone!

So as I can see there is no fix yet available even with latest leaked firmware?> That sad!
Latest leaked
Well. I can't assure you latest firmware doesn't fix it.
I think it doesn't fix, but I used the modified version of the firmware that doesn't require formatting, so build in voice recognition was already disabled.
Someone should try e clean install of latest firmware 2.3.4 and than install cyberon to see what happen..
For now I'm happy this way.
Hi,
I would like to change the voice of S-Voice. I prefer other TTS Engines out there. It seems to ignore the TTS Engine settings you set in the OS Menu.
Also, is there a way to switch between a male and female voice ?
Thanks.
dont bother changing it just delete s-voice , its the biggest pile of junk ever
I completely disagree with you ! I actually like S-Voice alot ! Its one of the reasons I bought the S3 in the first place !! Yes it might not get all the sarcasm of Siri, but it has its own advantages, I love how I can control so many functions of the phone just by voice (Especially the morning alarm ! The voice activated snooze or stop is AWESOME !) So anyway, I personally like it !
it cant even control opening radio / music and apps .. and updating fb n twitter using it is just rubbish and the constant network error and i cant understand anything lol . vlingo has never been good and probably never will be
anyway to change between male and female goto language and input then text to speech output .. samsung tts is a woman and google text to speech is a male
also click on the cog next to samsung tts to change tone of voice etc
Im not sure if you have used s-voice or not :S
It can play music very well, I asked it this morning to "play me some music by David guetta" and in no time It opened up my music player and played "Little bad girl" !!
I asked it to update my facebook status and it asked me right away what I wanted to say, and then updated it just fine !
So again........its doing everything I want it to do with no problems what so ever !
BTW I hate Vlingo too, its a crappy program, but S-Voice is VERY VERY different from vlingo, I actually went on my S2 and started comparing and vlingo couldnt do ANY of the things SVoice did, it simply didnt understand any sentence unless It was an exact command.
yes i have used s-voice many times and have a clear english accent . s-voice is only vlingo with a skin .... i am actually right now talking to my cousins s3 and asking it to update facebook with something and it comes up with something totally different .. and also when asking it to update twitter it trys top update facebook .. asked it to play bob marley , it played oasis, then everything else i just asked it said network error , exactly the same as my s-voice b4 i deleted it
Wierd......didnt face that many issues with mine !
Well, it did misunderstand me a few times........I told it to open facebook once and then it came back saying "I dont understand what you mean by Dicks" lol ? Not sure how it translated FB to dicks........but that was funny anyway
The network error message is the only thing that really bothers me about S-Voice.
OP, did you work out how to do this? I have the same problem, I want to use Ivona TTS as well...
Nope, I didnt.........S-Voice app would have to be modified to use the OS TTS engine and thats not gonna be easy. Well I definitely dont have the expertise to do that, so hopefully someone out there would be able to !

How can you configure s voice to snooze your alarm ? I haven't really used s voice that much but this seems like an interesting function Thanks in advance !
You go to Settings >> Language and Input >> Voice cmd for apps
Turn it on and tap on it again to access it, there you will see a list of apps/actions you can do , you choose which ever ones you want to activate.
Thats one of the features im still enjoying in my S3 But be carefull its soo easy to yell STOP and then go back to sleep !

I figured this out!
Go into your settings(phone settings) and pick whatever TTS engine you want.
Then, double tap the home button to enter s voice, and then hit the back button two or three times to completely exit S Voice.
Double tap the home button again and the voice ought to have applied.
EDIT: Also, if you want to use like an Ivona British voice, you also need to select the United Kingdom English in S Voice's settings. Or, you can simply have Ivona only install the voice data for whichever voice you want, and it should carry over to S Voice regardless of which version of English s voice is set to.
Or, if that doesn't work, something I once encountered, use the Application manager and Disable all but the TTS engine you want to use. Also force close them and clear their data. Then clear S Voice's data. Get into s voice again and disable, then re-enable the voice prompt. IF all else fails, that -should- do the trick.

you must have some crazy accent that yourself didn't notice.
After I downloaded the HD tts files, I tested it in S Voice and got the same old voice.
While in S Voice I hit the menu button and chose Settings. It brought up an S Voice settings menu.
From there I selected language. (which will be set to whatever your default language is. For me it was English (United States))
I then select another language. As soon as I selected it I was taken back to the S Voice Settings menu.
I selected language again and set it back to English (United States)
When I tested S Voice again that horrible robotic voice was gone
This is the only way I can find to get RELIABLE Bluetooth Voice Dialing back on Jelly Bean.
You might think it works sometimes because it searches Call History, Favorites etc. and sometimes those work. But in general it's busted. Some folks on Nexus devices say 4.2.1 fixes it. I did try Gapps from 4.2 and it did not fix it. Who knows if we'll ever see an official 4.2.1
This is the bug filed on Google http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=35199
I have tried EVA/AVX, Cyberon Voice Command, and Dragon Mobile Assistent. All great apps.
EVA would only work once per boot. First time works, 2nd time click BT Headset and it Prompts on Handset. Reboot fixes it for 1 Click of BT Headset.
AVX (same issue as EVA)
Dragon did not use Bluetooth Mic.
Cyberon Would not stay as the default application across reboots (annoying if you forget and phone is in your pocket).
Google Search cannot find contacts correctly over bluetooth.
Since Cyberon was the closest to working this is a Hack to make it work perfectly.
The bug is really in Cyberon but this gets around the bug by only having only ONE application that responds to the Bluetooth Button Click (indirectly it is forced to be the default).
The change to Velvet.Apk is very simple. All I did was delete these lines from AndroidManifest.XML
<activity android:theme="@style/Theme.HandsFree" android:name="com.google.android.voicesearch.handsfree.HandsFreeActivity" android:taskAffinity="com.google.android.voicesearch.handsfree" android:excludeFromRecents="true" android:configChanges="keyboard|keyboardHidden|navigation|orientation|screenSize">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.VOICE_COMMAND" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" />
</intent-filter>
</activity>
Attached below is the Stock Google Search that came with the OTA (Velvet.Apk) with it's Bluetooth Capabilities Disbabled. It just won't show up as a choice any longer when you click the bluetooth button. But it will continue to still show up when you hit the search button on the HandSet or Click the Mic in Google NAV.
To install, just Uninstall Google Search. Depending on your ROM you might need to use Titanium Backup to Uninstall it.
After that just install this tweaked Velvet.Apk.
You MUST buy Cyberon Voice Command ($6.00), there is no trial. Don't bother running this unless you plan to buy Cyberon Voice Command, that is all this hack is for.
Cyberon Voice Command works quite good. No Network needed and has confirmation.
You could Disable Google Search altogether and that makes Cyberon work too (again by being the only app that answers to bluetooth button). But Google Search works fine on the Handset and is very useful for Voice activated Navigation. So you don't want to completely lose Google Search.
So this is the best all worlds IMHO.
This does not allow Cyberon to be Default on the Handset. You'd need another AndroidManifest.XML edit for that.
Again this is ONLY for folks that want Bluetooth Voice Dialing over headset using purchased Cyberon Voice Command.
This does not apply to most Cars Bluetooth Audio. The Car does its own voice regonition.
I did not try Cyberon Voice Dialer ($3.00) that requires teaching, YUCK.
I'm not 100% sure how this will behave as far as Google Updates go. You might have to uninstall for update. It is signed but with a different signature.
I explained what I did in case I disappear and get a different phone
If I keep the phone and Google Search is not fixed I'll probably keep this updated or a better solution is found.
Developers are free to use this as they wish.
AVX (Android Voice Xtreme) works as well and is probably much better

Add AXV to the Broken List. Same exact problem as EVA. Feels like the same app but $20.00 instead of $10.00.
Works once per boot. The second time, when you click the bluetooth headset button it responds on the handset.
If you have a fix for that let me know. It is a nice app. Dragon was by far the best and in beta and I assume will get fixed.

I think I found a fix in AVX which is to disable the option under Settings->Device->Bluetooth uses Notification Stream
default is yes.
Although I can't give you any specifics, I can assure you 4.2.1 (in the form of CM10.1 as well as pure AOSP) is absolutely in development and is quite far along.

No go.
I reinstalled Stock Google Search (just in case).
Uninstalled Cyberon.
Installed AVX.
Wiped it's data, just in case.
It defaults to NO.
With set Yes, it runs backwards. Click Phone it goes to BT Headset. Click Headset it Goes to Phone.
With it Set to NO (Default) fresh boot. Works First time on BT Headset. Second Time click BT Headset button and it prompts on handset.
EVA did exactly the same thing with the same defaults.

I've tried CM ROM's on every phone (EVO 4G, 3D and LTE) and they were all a disaster. Mostly with regard to anything that requires GPS. It's like the AGPS never works. It's been that way forever. I tried CM10 a couple weeks ago and it was just terrible. Even once it does lock, it loses lock. I hate losing the ##nnnnnn# commands too.
Now that I have Cyberon back on, I think it's much better than EVA/AVX.
It's really light and snappy compared to all the others. Nothing fancy.
AVX/EVA is laggy and confirmation is really long winded.
For the few folks that download this, did it work for you?

Actually it was useful to know. It should work on any Jelly Bean ROM as far as I know.
I'm about ready to make another version to disable it from the search button as well and retain it to work only within the Nav app (which is all Google search is good for right now). The Voice Dial does not work great even on the handset. But Cyberon works great.

Your solution works perfectly on my Xperia Arc S with CM10 :victory:. Thank you very much! :good:
Everybody, please vote here.
Otherwise Google will never change this.
Your fix worked great on a Galaxy S3 - Thanks! I tried to uninstall Google Search completely, but then Cyberon wouldn't be activated with a bluetooth handset button push. Why Google Search is required, I don't know. I was able to freeze Google Search using TB with success - and maybe it was user error in the first place and Google Search can now be uninstalled. I will try another time.
Hi there,
I'm looking for a possibility(software) to use voice commands (via bt headset) on my htc hd2.
Today I've received a new bt headset which "is able to call contacts from phonebook via voice commands".
And I really would like to do that... First push on the "magic button". nothing happens.
After some research and a phone call with the support hotline they told me that this function relies on the phone's possibility to perform voice commands.
google search "told" me, there is something like MS Voice Command (in german language), it "should" be built in since Version x-y... at least in the stock ones. (I'm not using the stock rom because the htc messenger app did brake the sms sync with exchange!)
After some additional research i found out that in the rom I'm using no voice command software is inbuilt. (Energy.Leo.21916.Sense2.5.GER.Cookie.2.0.Mar.21.7z), and the author isn't willing to change that. But in the same post he adviced people to install it via cab-files. And I'm searching for them!!!!
I haven't found a possibility to buy the german 1.6.2 Version (the latest I guess) nor to download...(lots of links, all of them are down)
But I did find a english 1.6.20771 one, it's installed, it's working with the bt-headset...
Is there any way to change the language to german?
Is there some other "good" software(which is still available, and has same functionality) to accomplish this?
Also I did have a look at the Artemis-ROM, which has the voice command functionality included...(cyberon voice speed dial)
but I'm not sure if it will brake the exchange-sms sync. ( to install this rom and test that, i will have to remove spl, install other spl, mess with radio etc... it's not a quick test...)
Is someone around already using the artemis-rom with an exchange-server and sms-sync working?
Any help to get this voice command thing working in german would be very very nice!
Kind regards
